The Nanite Legacy #1

The Nanite Legacy

In a galaxy on the brink of war, one outcast holds the key to humanity’s survival—if the secret inside him doesn’t destroy him first.

Born on a forgotten station at the edge of civilization, Albert Kuno never imagined he'd become anything more than a drifting mechanic with nowhere to go. But everything changes when he stumbles upon a hidden alien relic—an ancient nanite core that bonds with his body and rewrites his fate.

Now, thrust into the ranks of the interstellar military, Albert finds himself piloting experimental warships, infiltrating pirate strongholds, and uncovering a conspiracy that spans the stars. As an untested war brews and alliances fracture, he must learn to harness the living technology inside him—before it consumes him from within.

Blending high-stakes action, sharp tech-thriller intrigue, and a deeply human journey of transformation, The Nanite Legacy is a bold new sci-fi epic for fans of The Expanse and Ender’s Game.

Sloppy YA

The editing is tighter in the first half of the book.
By the time you get about 3/4 of the way through, sometimes you’ll find the entire paragraphs repeated , or break where they repeat the previous scene, but edited in a different way like they were trying out a different approach and forgot to remove the one they didn’t like.

The overall tone is young adult . Vast plot holes, logical errors, a plot that really doesn’t hold together.

The author is also not particularly well-versed in military or science . Much of what is “military“ is actually TV or movie military, and is jarringly inaccurate for any kind of hierarchical organization.
The science is basically a bunch of keywords they got from Google or ChatGPT .

Overall, a decent showing for a first novel , needs both an editor for structure and logic as well as one to fix the repeated scenes, paragraphs, etc.

Knowing what I know now, I would not have read this . I do not intend to read any of the sequels.
You can skip this book without losing anything .

AI generated?

Pretty sure this is ai generated.

Whatever the source, the weird single sentence punctuated lines that the author uses are bombastic and overly done. It distracts from the story.

Also, the structure of the story and plot and world don’t make much sense. Characters with identical names, characters who are referred but not described until the last time the mc encounters them, nonsensical setups on ships, ignorance of rules of physics, it all is super sloppy.

Could it have potential? I guess, as much as stolen work can have.

Very good read

I enjoyed reading this book very much and I recommend this book to anyone who likes LitRPG and progression types of books with lots of action.

Full of strange formatting and weird half-sentences. A big chunk missing about him getting down to the planet; I’d think it was intentional but then he talks about a character we’ve never met as if we know them. Bizarre.

I got about 20% in I think. Honestly I try to separate the editing from the writing, as I know people don’t have big budgets, but this is pretty much unreadable. The synopsis sounds interesting though!

Language. Discard

I learned downloading an Amazon 'sample' is no help. Downloaded the book, searched for defecation (if you know English) and found the book is full of it. I'll never know if the story was interesting or written well.

Parts of this were really good. Some of the descriptive language is really evocative. Unfortunately, there are editing and continuity errors galore. Continuity between this book and the next is nearly non-existent.

In this book, character names were clearly changed at some point and not all cases were caught. The MC's father's backstory is changed near the end of the book. There's an early plotline that was completely forgotten when a ship name came up for the second time. Highly qualified adult military commanders do not strongly question seemingly miraculous outcomes that would have generated extreme suspicion from me (not in any way a highly qualified military commander) if I had observed the same situation. Around the 3/4 mark a secondary character's motivation is assumed and flips back and forth within a few pages with no explanation.

MC's decision-making in the last 1/4 of the book appears to be driven entirely by whim. There's a lot of angsting then he does what he wanted to do all along.

There were a lot of parts of this book I liked, but it needs a lot of work. I can't currently recommend it.

Wow, what a mess.
Our MC is assigned to his first ship, it's called the Vesta 9, and his trainer is one Lt. Gavin Miren. When he gets to the ship, its been magically renamed to "the Strix" and Lt. Miren never gets mentioned again. In Chapter 12, the ship is magically renamed "Darrow's Reach" before being renamed back to "the Strix" in Chapter 13. In chapter 15 our MC is reassigned to the "Vigilant Horizon" and his flight lead is on Commander Arix Malen. In chapter 20 our MC is once again reassigned to the "Apex Verity" under a different flight commander named Commander Arix Malen. In chapter 27 he meets Admiral Tessa Varn, who offers him a position on the "Odyssey Arc." Admiral Varn suddenly becomes Admiral Rennell in chapter 35.

Some time around chapter 38 it turns into a bad Star Trek episode and I checked out.

Interesting plot, even if implausible.
My problem with the book, and it's extending to the second one, which I just started, is the terrible editing. Other reviewers said the same thing, but usually incorrect grammar or punctuation doesn't bother me. These ebooks are on a lower level entirely. Exact same text repeated with different punctuation, character names changed, etc. The prologue in the second book even got the sequence of events from the first book wrong in such a way that it subtly changed the story line. Bad, bad, bad.
In the second book, a landing sequence was completely out of context... Ship lands, then Albert explains where they plan to land, and they land again. Just very poorly edited.

Interesting enough to look for the next book in the series. An idea that perhaps could have been expanded in some areas to add more to the story. It seems when a human is unknowingly injected with anncient alien nanites the adjustment will be easy. Perhaps the integration could be, but it felt like a lot of the learning was glossed over. Adding this could have also lost many readers, but could have been achieved to captivate interest.
Then what to do as the nanites then ease integration with another alien entity? Why does the advanced space ship not have video recordings of the bridge?
The story could have gone multiple ways, it seemed to slow down but there are many planets to visit yet.

Got through about 20% DNF

This ‘book’ is an absolute mess. Narrative inconsistencies from the very beginning. An almost total lack of world building and the obviously contrived means by which the MC gains the ‘nanites’ sets the tone.
The author (AI?) makes little to no attempt to actually string events together in a way that makes sense. Some inconsistencies are pretty glaring. He receives his orders at the end of training then actually reports to a completely different ship and never see or hear anything about the training officer he is supposed to be working under.
This is at best a good idea for a story but is certainly not suitable for publication.

An okay book

A bit of a quick pace, but feels slower as it takes its time with the training as the mc levels up as it were, with a lot of names of people that essentially become cameos. It's mostly okay, a few grammar issues, but a big one is he's introduced to a commander, and next paragraph the commanders name randomly changes to something else. Either that or it's a different commander that wasnt introduced leading to confusion.

An editor would do wonders to hopefully catch things like that. Overall is okay.

Thought-provoking read

I love the deep space imagery created by a range of authors. The Nanite Legacy is up there with the best. I love the recreation of jump lanes into slipstream and there are echoes of Dune in the neural interface and piloting through the depths of the galactic backdrop. Full marks and very well written with a credible hero not bogged down by the usual self doubt which becomes so painful in many stories. Loved the book and looking forward to the next in the series. Almost 5*

This is most probably as close to a 5* book, with me giving it 5* as I have got
The basic story is excellent, the issue being that the steps taken for Albert to get from rookie Pilot, to flying around in an Alien spaceship, are a tad too contrived. Three steps and suddenly he is there
The other issue is that randomly, lines of text are duplicated. It's annoying and should be picked up in proof reading, it happens numerous times
Overall a very good book, almost excellent, bar the contrived nature
Can't wait for the next in the series

A new (to me) very entertaining sci-fi twist

Amazons ‘suggested reads’ finally bore fruit - this series pop’d up when I completed a review on the book I read yesterday and I’m so glad it did.

I was dragged through the story from beginning to end - not at supersonic speed but at a pace that felt just right with each new page pulling me through the tale without even thinking I needed a break.

My only question now is whether I’ll have enough in the tank to read book 2 before I flake out.

Good, but parts missing

This is a great origin story sort of on the level with George Martin's Tuf Voyaging. Unfortunately the last 10% was mangled: repeated paragraphs and at least one jump in the story as if an entire chapter or more was missing. Will continue and hope it was just a portion left unedited by mistake. I do, however, sometimes miss sticking to books from formal publishing houses. Good news is that AI slop will likely make them popular again. (This book did NOT seem like it was written by AI, so no worries here.)

Formatting Errors Galore

The story was pretty decent, but there were lots of issues with formatting. At least three sections where the story outright repeated the previous paragraph or page; page after page where the formatting for the various methods of communication either changed or was outright missing; and then the story kinda just started almost contradicting itself once we get to the point where Arc gets involved.

But yet, I still want to read the sequel.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Excellent wordsmith

Levesque knows how to tell a captivating story. Characters seem real, not overly inflated in ego or capabilities. Unfortunately, the editing is terrible. Paragraphs are repeated, sometimes two or three are duplicated right after each other. Words are run together, and the word "clean" is severely overused.

Once you get past that, the storyline shines, and brightly!

Good start

Enjoyed the prose and while I am not going to remove a star for structure and grammar a good proof reader would help
One thing that irritated me was the difficultly in knowing who was speaking. The use of bold or italics with speech mark would have helped immensely to differentiate between speakers (and whether is was subvocal)
We will see what the next book is like………

Good story, needs a good editor.

I enjoyed the book but the grammar errors were a little overwhelming. Also many of the characters names and the ship's names changed from one chapter to the next with none of the characters noticing. Other than that it was a very good and enjoyable story.

first 80% of book was 4 maybe 4.5 stars, but the last 20% was just stupid. I hope he doesn't continue in that dumb way. Throughout the book you get the sense that the MC is kind of dense. Then the last 20% shows that he is just full of himself, can't say more on that without spoilers. I'll say this, if you read up to when he goes by himself you will have probably loved the book.

Fast moving, interesting recommend

I enjoyed the book and am looking forward to the second. The Author quickly describes the setting, points the direction, and pulls the reader into the action. Two minor editing issues: a admirals name is changed in the middle of the story and then back to the original at the end; a few paragraphs are repeated near the end.

Quickly became my favourite sci-fi book of the year.

This quickly became my favourite sci-fi book of the year.
It’s so well written and so unique I love it. The story is great and the MC is smart and competent. The editing is well done and the universe leaves so much to be explored. There is lots of potential. I can’t wait for the second.

I enjoyed

I enjoyed reading this book. It is not military science fiction and if that is what you’re looking for you will be disappointed. It is adventure science fiction but not space opera. There are a few logical problems in the general world building. I plan on reading the next book in the series.

while too much red tape is a bad thing everything happens too easy

Liked the plot, and the world building. Character interactions are overly simplified especially within the chain of command. Needs a good editor to say no or Force the author to rewrite certain parts. And for my taste not enough crisis or conflict.

Enjoyable read

I really enjoyed this book. I liked the characters and the story. I had some issues with it though. Sometimes sections of the story would be repeated or repeated with additional story to it. Kind of distracting also I thought a section was missing or I just missed it because of the distracting sections? Other then that I enjoyed this book.

Bad writing, had to quit around 40%.

This is the book equivalent of a dragon you around by your nose phone game. But not as satisfying.
MC is dragged through the book from one harder stage to the next. It got boring fast and I lost interest in the MC so there was no point in reading anymore.
I can't recommend the book, but you may like crappy books and bad writing.

The story is interesting. There are not many typos, but there are some problems with sentence structure.
I just started book two, and the author took literary license and changed some things about how Albert.discovered Sync. The author gets a little fantastical with descriptions, but over all an entertaining read without sexual content and with minimal violence.

Oddly Intriguing Story

This one is a blend of sci-fi and mystery tech, with deep intentions and unknown creators. Good character development, slow plot development, fair story thread resolution with some remaining unresolved at book’s end. There is a next installment which is enticing but the reader is not required to continue.

excellent - read immediately

Well written, just enough description of technology to be interesting but not enough to confuse non-tech people like myself, decent character development (although that part could be a bit better), and a mostly believable plot. No cliffhanger, but it is clear that the story continues while wrapping up the first section. Well done! Highly recommended.

enjoyable story

The overall story arc is not new, but the detail’s provided are good and the writing style is better than most. There were some odd double lines of text in three places that were repeated, but without punctuation, that was odd.
