Who doesn't want to be chased by a masked man during a Halloween party? Daisy has always liked things dark and dirty but she's just seen as the sweet and quiet girl. DJ is always on the hunt and Halloween is his favorite time. He can do what he wants and get away with it. He becomes obsessed when he sees Daisy at the sorority party and the hunt begins. Even through all his dark and depraved actions, Daisy feels the pull towards him.

Hear You Screaming is a DARK romance that pushes every boundary by the intensity of the twisted connection the MMC holds for the FMC and by the carelessly brutal way he murders. This is not a morally gray MMC; he's a deeply unsettling *villain*. Yet the way he can barely control himself around the FMC, how he LOOKS at her, the obsession he develops, and the vaguely protective way he wants to be the only one to degrade her is the hot (fictional) dark romance I'm always looking for and never finding.
Hear You Screaming doesn't pull its punches, which I found that I loved, but it also fleshes out its main characters, something I don't find often in this sub-genre. The FMC, in particular, goes through the ringer but is constantly wavering, questioning everything, and fighting against the creeping darkness wrapping around her heart. It's rare I find a FMC I really like in these books, as they tend to be either waifish or churlish in an immature way, and at the end of the day, unrealistic. This FMC wrestles with her thoughts from the moment the MMC makes himself known, to the point I could FEEL the distress. She was so much more realistic, which made her dynamic character arc a thrilling thing to watch.
The MMC was just... wow. He's admittedly a total mess, a psycho killer who can barely control his urges, but when he DOES... *and* when he doesn't... It's all somehow extremely hot. Messed up. Utterly, totally, completely messed up. But HOT. The way he would shake with desire, rage, and want when he would look at Daisy, the FMC, was something to behold. I could hear his voice, see the way he moved, catch the glimmer of his knife in the dim light.
Which, honestly, the writing style? I was so here for it. The way the characters were built, of course, as I've mentioned, but also I could smell the party, the alcohol, the overly sweet Halloween candy, the BLOOD. I could see and hear and feel as I moved through this story, and I really enjoyed that! The racing thoughts, too, that the main characters had in their respective chapters, gave such an intriguing look into their psyches. It's just some good writing that I'll be looking at this author for more of.
For me to be this impressed with a dark romance is SAYING something. This isn't a genre I read a lot of, and I tend to be harshly critical of it. Yet this, THIS. If you're looking for something truly, unsettlingly dark, full of blood, slasher vibes, and an intensity that will have you taking shaky breaths in the night, then you've found it. A *perfect* Halloween story and obsessive romance that will devour you. Hard recommend.

Hear You Screaming is exactly the kind of twisted fun I want to read this time of year. Set during a Halloween party that takes a dark, violent turn, the book introduces a serial killer who isn’t just there for a body count—he’s fixated on one woman in particular… but not for the reasons you’d expect.
From page one, I was hooked. The pacing is fast and steady, never dragging, and I found myself flying through the chapters just to see what would happen next. There’s a great mix of gore and spice here—some moments genuinely grossed me out (in a good horror way), and others were superb in a whole different direction 👀.
Winnie Brooks’ writing is vivid and descriptive—she builds the scene so well that everything else around me disappeared while I was reading. The characters were compelling, and the development, especially between Daisy and the masked man, was surprisingly layered given the short timeline.
I didn’t want it to end, and I need to know what happens next—especially with Daisy and her first year joining the masked man 👀. Fingers crossed there’s a sequel.

Oh wow this was perfection and a perfect read for spooky season!
This is set on Halloween during a Halloween party. I LOVED all the Easter eggs that paid hommage to those of us (raises hand from the back) who adore horror movies.
I was so impressed with the level of character building Winnie was able to get into this book that was really a pretty quick read. I felt like I knew exactly who these Daisy and DJ were while reading. I loved the psychotic behaviors of DJ and I love how he saw Daisy. We learn so much about Daisy, lots of tidbits through story help us see what DJ sees.
I very much enjoyed the dark and twisted details in this story. This book is for mature readers in every sense of the word. Be sure to peak the triggers before reading!
Last but not least, this spice here is spicing. This is dark, horror spice - reminder to read the triggers.
That said, if you are a lover of spice, horror, and Halloween you will enjoy this!!

This book is dark, deranged and twisted but oh so addicting. I devoured this book and was loving every second of Hear You Screaming. DJ and Daisy relationship is out of this world and that ending had me wanting more. The chemistry, the setting and the way this is written is a perfect way to get into spooky season.

I love Winnie Brooks books and her writing and this little book was the perfect twisted fun that I wanted this Halloween.
This story is set during a Halloween party that we find takes this dark, violent turn as we are introduced to a serial killer who isn't at the party just for the body count – he's there for one woman and one woman only...but you're going to be shocked for the reasons behind it.
From the very beginning I found myself unable to put this book down and I was just enthralled. This is a quick, steady, read that never drags for a second and I was shocked at how quickly I was flying through all the chapters as I just couldn't stop reading as I wanted to know what happened next. Winnie is a master at mixing gore and spire – and at moments it was rather shocking, and at other moments we see these superb twists that take things in an entire new direction.
Winnie has a talent at being able to write these vivd and descriptive scenes – she is able to create the perfect scenes so well that at times everything else around you just disappears. Her character development, growth and arcs were on par and her characters were so compelling and leave you wanting to know more about them. And I found this so true when it came to Daisy and the masked man, and Winnie did it layering it all together in a very short time.
I wish that this book never had to end. I wish I could have found out what happened with Daisy in the first months and that first year or two years after she joined the masked man. I really hope that Winnie gives us a sequel and gives us the answers that I am sure I am not the only one asking.

Daisy and DJ’s story was haunting in the best way possible. The tension between them was electric — equal parts fear, desire, and something neither of them could quite name. I loved watching their connection unravel piece by piece, never knowing whether to trust what I was reading or brace for another jaw-dropping moment.
Winnie Brooks did an incredible job balancing the psychological edge with raw emotion. The atmosphere was chilling, the writing sharp, and the ending? Perfection — the kind that leaves you sitting in stunned silence after you finish.
If you love dark, mind-bending thrillers with just the right touch of obsession and heat, Hear You Screaming is a must-read. Daisy and DJ are going to stay with me for a long time.

Daisy & DJ are a whole twisted depraved vibe and I couldn't put this book down plus its fun with it starting out on Halloween at a sorority party bringing all the suspense and spice that are hitting at an all time high here. If you love dark, deranged, and unhinged then DJ will be your ultimate masked man, and let's not forget our little resident psycho Daisy who brings her own brand of madness to the mix. All I can say without spoiling anything is this book pays homage to those older horror movies that brought the dark suspense with twisted moments perfectly. So if you're one who loves a good horror movie but want a book version then this is a MUST READ HERE!!

Hear You Screaming is a fantastically dark and morbid Halloween novella.
It probably says a lot about me that this story did not faze me at all. It was an absolutely perfect Halloween cereal unaliver story. I am a huge fan of slasher movies and this one read just like one. Now to be fair you know who is behind the mask, but Daisy doesn't. And everything he puts her through, just to get to the end of the night was sensational. I honestly wasn't sure how this one was going to end. Was Daisy the final girl or just another victim? There were a few ways this story could've gone and I loved how it all went down. Perfect reading if gore doesn't bother you.

Will you also accidentally read Death by Apple Candy Cum? and then snort out loud? lol
Daisy and DJ were a couple that never saw eachother coming but complete eachother, at least in his psychotic serial killer brain and her I'm not normal and why does this dude turn me on kind of brain.
You're instantly sucked into the story, you feel like you're standing a corner of this sorority party watching the debauchery take place.
The ending though.... yeah, going to need more. 🤣

Holy crap in the night! Winnie, I freaking ate this book up like it was the last piece of candy left on Halloween!
This novella is so dark and so deliciously twisted with all the horror and erotic kinks you could ask for. Just when I thought things couldn’t get more depraved, Winnie takes it up a thousand notches!
Daisy and DJ’s unhinged souls were made for each other! I giggled at all of the morbid humor and loved the reference of old slasher movies.
The ending was not what I expected, it was way better!

This book is dark, twisted, and absolutely addictive. I couldn’t put Hear You Screaming down and loved every second of it. The relationship between DJ and Daisy is electrifying, and that ending? It left me craving more. The chemistry between them, the chilling setting, and the writing all come together perfectly to make this the ideal read to kick off spooky season.

Literally DEVOURED this book it was so good! Loved the horror icon references, and the silly jokes DJ makes to himself. I LOVE a good dark romance, and DEFINITELY a masked MMC…..and Winnie did us right with DJ and Daisy! They’re the perfect couple that didn’t know they needed each other, meeting in the most fucked up, perfect for them way! The scenes are fire, and there’s fantastic plot to keep you turning the pages! Definitely a must read!

I can’t get over how phenomenal Winnie Brooks’ writing is whether she’s writing a dark romance filled with so much emotion your heart might burst, or this spooky fun little number. DJ & Daisy are both little psychos, with DJ seeing the real Daisy and helping her bring that darkness within to the surface. You get dark humor, horror and spice but also characters with deep rooted insecurities from shitty life experiences. It’s a perfect quick read for spooky season 🎃

“If I can’t have you no one else can” is a direct quote from this book if that is what you are looking for! The gore is so gruesome and very expressive so please ready trigger warnings for that and ofc the smut. I read this thinking it’s just just about a killer and his last victim I just wasn’t expecting everything else that came with it but it was a easy fast read and I wasn’t expecting the end. If you enjoy cat and mouse and a very oxymoron HEA this is for you!

Halloween + serial killer + dark urges = an amazing story!! Daisy has never had a chance to be her true self or explore her fantasies. All of that changes when her and her sorority sisters throw a halloween party. As a fan of the darker side, I found this book to have all the necessary elements, making it a fun, easy and very spicy read.

Wow this book was phenomenal! Short but packed full of Halloween, gory goodness! This book was a bit fucked up at times but aren’t we all? Well thought out, packed a punch, did NOT feel rushed or incomplete. Just perfection! This is for those dark romance girlies who always wanted to be part of a slasher film ❤️

I liked this! She's a new to me author & this is DJ & Daisy's story. She's at college, but there's a lot going on there, she really doesn't fit in & her "sisters" don't really like her. He's out of college, but he goes to their party because he has plans of his own. This is the perfect Halloween read; I loved the spice & the story & I recommend this novella & author!

Hear You Screaming was such a great short read. This Erotic Horror was perfect for the spooky season. Definitely had 'Scream' vibes, but I think DJ was a smidge more manic than the typical cliché scream slashers. Daisy got humbled numerous times. DJ spirals. The story is wild and worth the quick read!

New-to-me author, this was perfect for the spooky season, it has fantastic characters, Daisy and DJ are a wild, dark, and unhinged duo I couldn’t put down. It kicks off at a Halloween sorority party and delivers nonstop suspense and spice.
This is perfect for fans of dark, twisted horror stories, it’s a must-read for Halloween.

A masked man chasing you at a Halloween sorority party gave me so many Scream vibes and I could instantly see this one being a movie.
It’s always the quiet innocent girls that you gotta watch out for and Daisy fits this mold well because she definitely isn’t at all what she seems. She like dark and twisty so when the DJ at the party has her in laser focus and chooses to hunt her, she is intrigued. She’s drawn to him in the worst/best ways, depending how you choose to look at it.
I loved that although this book wasn’t long it served it’s purpose with building the storyline and characters while giving you insights that didn’t keep you guessing. If you are in a slump and need a quick read I would definitely say grab this one. As always check the trigger warnings before you jump in, don’t be like me and nosedive head first.

Got me into the spooky vibes for sure I’m ready for Halloween ! Normally I’m not into holiday themed books but this a really good one ! If you love Halloween and fall vibes then check this one out 10/10

Wickedly Romantic! The vibe is perfect for fall lovers who crave spooky thrills. I loved the chase, and the ending was ::chefs kiss:: 💋 Will definitely be reading more from Winnie Brooks!!! Loved every second of this!!!!

This was an absolutely amazing and really really dark read but it was sooo worth it. If you ever watched Scream and wished it was real but that the masked man got the girl in the end....well this book is definitely for you. This book truly spoke to the darkness in my heart and I loved it.

This book is dark and smutty just the way I like it. Winnie unalived it in the best possible ways I wish there was more. Girl you are slaying it and I could not be more amazed with the work you are coming up with I can't wait to read more of your work.
