If there is a genre that I can count on to inspire me every time that is sports manga and Kuroko's Basketball certainly seems to have the potential for it in spades.
As a protagonist, Kuroko is quite interesting and not a type of person I've seen represented very often, much less as a protagonist. His calm attitude but passion and love for the sport make for a very intriguing contrast; especially when paired with Kagami who exudes that passion and fire strongly.
In such a time they have become quite the fascinating duo.
The idea of the Generation of Miracles, this group of really talented kids, is very unique and something that has effectively hooked me.
For a first impression, I am interested. What it will become of this is something to be seen.

this goes deep into the izzy lore and is fundamental to her development. and it still slaps.
only got a 4 because it was just a practice game and some other irrelevant games.
i'm also watching the anime and in the anime they made kuroko cooler and a bunch of other characters better looking BUT we lost sassy kagami 💔

I would probably give this a three and a half, but it feels good to put four stars. My favorite thing about this manga is the fact that the titular character, while amazing at some aspects of basketball, is not good at everything and probably never will be. He is incredibly unassuming and his talent is to stay in the shadows where nobody notices him. Sure, there are many sports manga where the hero starts out a little bad, but usually they are also very flashy with their skills. I like that this guy is practically invisible.
The stories are good natured sports nonsense, and while there isn’t a lot of depth, the set up in which the team has a set of super rivals (each with its own super player with their individual super skill) is entertaining.

This series introduces the reader to a lot of characters, but manages to develop all of them fairly nicely. We get to see a different, detailed, and imaginary perspective on basketball with this manga. The emotional struggles Kuroko faces, as he finds his way in basketball, is very exciting with all the comedy and action.

The story is fun filled with good characters and exciting plays. Fujimaki isn't afraid to drag a game out with some taking a whole volume or so. I'm glad that they do this so games have merit and worth. They're not dragged out either, with the games being treated more as a set piece for characterization and shows of power and feats than a play-by-play. I can see some disliking how they treat basketball here as it is a pretty fantastical depiction with NBA level and above bullshittery going around freely. But I enjoy its over-the-top portrayal as it gives a good amount of WTF action moments and allows more time to be spent on the characters and the situations. The writing as a whole is interesting as this is fairly character-driven with basketball feeling more like an avenue to explore characters dynamics and psychological sparring or showing their differences than actual basketball. Some games are completely skipped and at times strategy and individual plays are boiled down or skipped around to fit a narrative between ideological differences or showing that someone is “worthy” than actually showing the game. I don't know if I'll enjoy this going forward but so far it's quite good though at times I wish the playing was shown more and treated less like set-dressing or a “best highlights” with superpower skills going off like some weird sort of Basketball Z clipshow.
The characters are a strong draw. They're fun and play off of each other well. Each one has a bit of a schtick which along with them all having one clear basketball strength keeps them easy to remember even as the cast slowly grows beyond the duo of Kuroko and Kagami. And Fujimaki plays into this well again with the actual strategy and basketball being sidelined at times to show off character moments at times.
The storylines we get here start with the practice game between the first and second year's. It lays the duo of Kagami and Kuroko nicely. Then we get the absolute banger that is the Seirin vs Kaijo arc where we meet Then we have the match against Shinkyo who has a strong opponent in Daddy. Thankfully this one was pretty short since I really dislike how Daddy / Papa Mbaye is handled. It feels really awkward when they say schools use foreign players because they're better since they're foreign and the example we’re given is a Senegalese person. Like it just reeks of trying to assume something because of someone's race and color. They could've handled it and given some better reason than he’s foreign so he's better. Kagami is also better because of his time in America but it's not focused on as much. He also has talent from his time in America whereas Daddy’s seems to be more biological creating even more off messaging. We finish off speeding to the final four cross matches dealio and a glimpse into the Shutoko High and the glasses-wearing lucky-item-obsessed Midorima.
The art is ok. I'm currently reading the mangaka's new work Kill Blue weekly. Similarly, the art is fine. It's not good but it's not bad. The sense and flow of action is given a fair amount of attention that I appreciate. I appreciate how they decided to have plays take place over a single panel even if it is a bit confusing and takes awhile to adjust to. The ball being blank for what it was or is intended to be prior to something happening is also confusing but I appreciate what it's trying to portray and do though.

Sports manga yaoi just hits different, man. I can’t wait to hit up AO3 when this is over.
Volume 1 was perfection, but once the arc featuring the practice match against Kaijo High ended, it began to drag a bit and the writing past that point wasn’t quite up to par for me personally. I still had a good time throughout though and volume 2 certainly had its fair share of good moments as well.

I first saw this anime in reaction videos and I decided I really want to read the manga once I discovered the manga was in English. In some Youtube videos that focused on Kuroko's Basketball, some people said this was not very realistic basketball, but after reading the first two volumes of the series I want to refute that.
On the first pass, this does seem little fantastical and not very realistic. Yet, the players do have limitations when it comes to their special skills. That grounds it a little bit more. Also the concepts mentioned are real. Whether they are used in basketball, I do not know. Basketball was not the sport I played in school. As was writing this, I try to find videos that reacted to the anime to see the plausibility. Based on one react video and a compilation of Kuroko's Basketball anime clips and the NBA clips, it seems like some of the moves are possible. Maybe not how it is done in the manga, but it seems to be in the realm of possibility.
Aside: I wonder if the manga is going to cover on who is going to be the coach after the current coach graduates? Will she teach another student to do it or what?
Verdict: I will definitely continue the series until I finish it.

I had this on my TBR for a while before axing it, but decided to give the manga a go after finding it in my undergrad and grad towns (the former has recently got some of the first half, but not all for some reason). Kuroko no Basuke was my first sportsball anime, so I do have a soft spot for it for the dynamic main cast and compelling games (even if some were frustrating at times). I think Fujimaki's art style will only improve as the series continues. It lacks some of the angularity the anime character designs do (although the Generation of Miracles don't look older than high school students LOL). We also don't get as much of a picture Seirin's team as a whole yet. But I do like how Kuroko and Kagami play off each other, and Caleb Cook's translation mostly captures the high energy this series has despite some odd phrase choices (again). I'm in no rush to continue this. There's a two omnibi pause at my main undergrad town library after the third at the moment.

The five prodigies were known as the greatest players and were called the Miracle Generation. However, it was rumored that there was one more exceptional player that was part of the Miracle Generation … a phantom sixth man. Now, all six prodigies attend different high schools. I've always been in love with this franchise! From the anime to the manga.
I'm already familiar with this series and already know the in and outs of the characters and plot. But I never had completed reading the manga fully or watch the anime fully, what I mean by that is that I always skim through episodes and chapters to move on to the "interesting" part. But now that I'm starting to collect the series, I decided to read the whole story and this time no skimming through pages and chapters. So technically speaking I'm reading this series for the first time! XD
Reading this first volume, I could only literally say is that I love it even more!!
The interaction between Kagami and Kuroko is so awkward, but I found it endearing. In this volume, we get introduced to two of the Generation of Miracles Ryota Kise and Shintaro Midorima. Here we see Kise what his role is to the miracles and of course who his current team is, Kaoji.
Additionally, the only thing I noticed is that the game between Papa here is anti-climatic compared to the anime.

This was one going onto it I was not sure how i would feel because my only other comparison was haikyuu. And this is different from haikyuu but not in a bad way.
• With the sport being basketball for an american audience member like me it was easy to understand the beginner rules but if you don't know the basics you could get thrown off.
• I do like that the coach is a female it definitely brings a different perspective.
• I also enjoyed the different character dynamics presented. Its going to be interesting seeing where this series goes.
Overall, I am definitely glad I tried something different and I'm glad I read this. 4 out of 5 stars

No es Slam Dunk, tampoco es Haikyuu!...y tampoco, inicia con el gran devastador del aro carismático que logra acaparar la atención con sus grandes habilidades, al menos no del personaje principal.
Kuroko, es un fantasma, plano, sin grandes virtudes, serio, tal vez hasta introvertido, pero, tiene algo, ese algo que hace que sea valorado por los mejores 5 jugadores de su país en la categoría de secundaria y prepa...¿qué puede hacer este joven tan equis que personalidades tan importantes le guarden tanto respeto?, no es su fortaleza física, tampoco es su gran espíritu o carácter...
Todo esto se descubre poco a poco en estos 2 volúmenes.

My biggest complaint with the first issues is that there isn’t a whole lot of lead up to their first game. It would have been nice to see some development on teamwork beforehand - like some sort of trust boot camp to get the players integrated as a cohesive team.
Instead we just see like one scene where they practice and put each other down, and then in their first game they work so well together? Doesn’t make sense. How can Kagami and Kuroko work so well together when they haven’t even developed a friendship?

The Basketball Which Kuroko Plays is one of those series that got really popular during a time I was out of Anime. I'm just getting around to reading it for the first time, though I intend to catch up on some more current series first. The art is pretty nice for shonen manga, and the set-up is intriguing.

This one is a lot of fun. Good for younger folks who like manga and want to get into basketball. Not sure I’d recommend it to basketball fans who are trying to get into manga. It felt a little juvenile, but toward the end, I began to enjoy it quite a bit. Still on the fence about whether I’ll continue reading the series.

4.5 stars. One of the best sports manga and anime after my favorite Haikyuu. A reread for times when I don't want to study anything. I will go with these two. A must read for sports enthusiast.
Edit: Blue Lock is also in this category but I have watched only first season and haven't read the manga yet. I really loved the first season.

One of my favorite anime's so I knew I would love the manga. The anime follows the manga closely so if you're expecting a new story or huge differences you won't get that from this. Still a great story overall.

Quite enjoyed this. ^_^ Kuroko is a great protagonist and I liked that they used a friendlyish guy as the first from the "miracle generation" as the intro to them. Also that Kagami and Kise and Kuroko got to play a quick game together against those thug boys.

Entertaining from start to finish. The drama, the humor, the cheesy one liners all is super well balanced. The characters are well thought through and unique in their own way.
The skills of the miracle generation is not to far fetched on unbelievable and the sport scenes well drawn and easy to follow.
Already looking forward to omnibus 2.

Nostalgie pur, habe wieder total Lust auf den Anime und allgemein auf Basketball. Die Zeichnungen sind auch super und in den ersten beiden Bänden ist auch schon ziemlich viel passiert. Habe schon Lust, weiter zu lesen.

This isn't an amazing story by any means, but it's fun, and I rarely feel annoyed while reading it. Also, the art can be a bit wonky at times, but it is never enough to be distracting.

I really liked the anime, so wanted to give the manga a go. I’m liking it, but I honestly think sports manga does better as anime. It’s the same story, but the action comes off better in the screen.
