The Seattle Svenssons #2

Mr. Not Your Savior!

Rate this book
When your mean boss asks you if you’re ready to admit defeat—and move out of his car...you wonder where you went wrong in life.
Two weeks ago, I was an optimistic office girl with a Pinterest vision board and a dream.
Now? I’m standing in a billionaire’s penthouse office, trying not to throw a donut at his smug, perfect face.
McCarthy Svensson is my new boss-slash-personal tormentor.
Though he thinks he’s my only protector.

He’s wrong. He’s way worse than the merry-go-round of ex fiancés who may or may not be stalking me, including ex-fiancé number one of three, who fakes his death then pops up out of a casket. Alive.
Yes, I have a messy dating life.
I like to think it makes me unique and quirky!
He doesn’t seem to think so.

When he growls, “I’m not helping you until you admit you need me,” I slam a binder against his chest and smile sweetly.
“Pick your fake girlfriend, buddy. Deadline’s midnight.”
He smirks. “As long as she’s nothing like you.”
Cool.
Now all I have to do is convince this ice-cold bastard that I’m exactly what he needs...

No not like that! I’m trying to save his reputation and my job.
And I’m not saving either if I keep letting him finger me in the back seat of his limo…gulp.

Stalkers, hot but toxic bosses, a granny with a flamethrower… This full-length, stand-alone, enemies-to-lovers romantic comedy with all of the crazy laughs and of course the perfect happily ever after!

why does she always write about abusive relationships as if it's romantic. the main male character literally assaults the female by chasing her down and forcing her to have sex. he throws things at her and physically assaults her, dragging her around. how is that romantic? obviously she has never been in or around an abusive relationship to write about is casually as if it's something we should all desire. so disappointed

no one can be that stupid

I really enjoy Alina’s stories but this one went beyond credible. Jenna was too stupid to be believed. All those fiancés and then searching for another. Even daddy issues couldn’t explain her motives. I hate not finishing something I start but I just couldn’t with this one.

Let's not kid ourselves, he's definitely her savior or she would've been dead in the first chapter!

She has like 6 stalkers: including a 3 losers harassing ex-fiancés (one who faked his death only to film her reaction as a prank youtube video/ Another who kidnapped her dog so he can gif it to his pregnant mistress).

Anyway, she's a disaster, the embodiment of "delulu girl". She let every man walk all over her but the MMC who saves her every step of the way. Is he nice then? Fuck no, he's a sociopath who pulls her from the hair, fasten his belt on her neck during sex, blame her daddy issues to engage in anal sex.

Anyway, they're twisted and they deserve each other!
I stand by the dedication of the author in which she said "To the voice in my head that said (maybe don't write that), I ignore you. Again."
The sheer level of craziness we have here is never the product of rational writing. And I'm all grateful for my cult babies twisted stories.

Checking the square of a book starting with the letter "M".

Right, does the author has a stalker fetiches or something? The first book the main female had a stalker, iffy story line but real enough… this second book the main female has, not only a row of disgruntled rejected men but also SEVERAL stalkers? Seriously? Whilst there is funny parts and also randy parts we have to look at the dynamic of the main couple… so dysfunctional! First, Consent is something blurry. Then the obsessive stalkery the appears to be welcomed ? The main femal- smart enough to get herself OUR of a commune and get a MBA but stupid enough to pay a mortgage without some sort of signed agreement? FISHY! And Salinger, having just been through very similar situation is very aggressive towards his brother too. I am sorry, lots of people will like and i do usually like this author but this book seams almost like she is trying to publicly cry foe help that she her self is being held captive 🤷‍♀️

DNF at 33%. I could not take how insipid and weak and stupid Jenna was and just how unbelievably mean McCarthy is to her. It’s painful to read. He has no redeeming qualities and she’s such a caricature of a doormat. I was hoping to last until I got to more of the great-grandma, but I can’t do it anymore. He really is such a toddler and she’s so blah. I don’t like either of them at all. Just skip this. It’s not worth the aggravation.

pure chaos

Ok… it took me a bit to keep up with the sheer chaos of this story but I think I liked it. It’s hot for sure and the relationship is toxic but in a good way… I dunno, give it a read and see what you think.

The PR Princess and the Viral Bad Boy

Mr. Not Your Savior! is the second book in The Seattle Svenssons series. This story is quirky, funny, sweet, and a fabulous way to get lost for a while. The Seattle branch of the Svensson family is here and this time the story is about Jenna and McCarthy. She is a PR 'Princess' who has been assigned the impossible task of getting the growly and ruthless McCarthy under control and turn his reputation around. Add in her wiener dog Truman, a few ex-fiance's, a stalker and a boss that is out for revenge and it appears trying to get her fired, and Jenna has her hands completely full. But she puts a brave face on with a big smile worthy of any instagram posting and the perseverance and plans to rehab her client. McCarthy is not having any of it, even if it is his older brothers who brought in Jenna. He is big, growly, has a bit of a temper to say the least, and if not about to take orders from the pint-sized princess and her barking little dog, unless he can add them to his trophy case that is. Together Jenna and McCarthy are funny, have great banter, at times sweet, and end up falling for each other as they also deal with her ex's and his past decisions that have not worked out well.

What is it with the women being door mats

I usually love her books but the last few books all the women have been absolute door mats. No self esteem and letting men use and abuse them. Then this guy comes along and saves her after also treating her like dirt. Yeah that is the type of love we all should wish for. Not.

If you want chaos this is it.

I think this book has the two most chaotic main characters I’ve ever seen together. The amount of smiling and giggling happening throughout definitely makes this one a memorable comedy.

I just can't with Jenna

Omg! Seriously the FMC is one of the stupidest characters I have read in a long time. She is so dumb, pathetic, and ignorant. I have never disliked a FMC more. She's not even stubborn in her actions just dumb as a box of rocks. I was so over her and rooting for her stalker to off her by chapter 20. I trudged my way through the book idk hoping a miracle would happen and she'd gain some sort of intelligence, never happened, but mainly so I could express my dislike of the book. So much of the book was her idiocy, had she been a decent character the book would probably been 200 pages shorter. So don't recommend wasting time with this book.

One of the worst heroines in this subgenre of romance. Some might consider there to be slightly spo iler ish co ntent in this review.
The H, McCarthy, was more anti-hero, rough, and at times mean. But he actually had progression during the story. You learned why he is the way he is. And you also got to see him find acceptance and almost excitement in his feelings towards the h, Jenna. When it came around to his feelings for her, even before he admitted them to himself actually, he was doing everything for Jenna and giving her everything. He took the blame for things, BIG things. He provided for her. He expressed himself to her. And he continued to go back and basically beg her to be with him, when he did NOTHING wrong. He was a light anti-hero who did what it took to help her. He deserves better than this dingbat heroine.
Y'all.....this heroine, Jenna, was a complete user dingbat. All she wanted to do was do her job, sling her atrocious basic B stan cup around (at first I thought this was sort of making fun of those cups...but then it seemed like you were supposed to find her obsession with it endearing), act like all of these men trying to hurt her was no big deal, and ACCEPT that her FIANCE she has at the beginning of the book cheating on her was acceptable at first. Then instead of taking McCarthy up on his offers and help, she proceeds to go on dating apps and try to date other men to try and find some random guy to move her in so she'd have some where to stay!!!!!! Even all the way towards to wrap up of the story, she was STILL toying with the apps for a man! But yet the H was constantly there providing for her.
Want to know when she was finally nice to him from a relationship stand point in a way that felt like she finally accepted him? At NINETY SIX PERCENT into the story.
There really wasn't any relationship development for them as a couple. It was just him doing everything for her and her being ungrateful. But yet thinking some rando loser would be the right option to go after.
He had decent arc.
Jenna had ZERO arc. She was a complete dingbat and had SERIOUS mental issues. That could have been used to her advantage as a character, but instead it went against her since it continued the entire book in a way that was against the H for whatever reason, which was really a contrast to who the character is.
She was absolutely careless with her dog. And while I appreciate the tidbit about dachshunds at the beginning of the story, she was a danger to that dog.
Normally these type of ridiculous romance stories give you some laughs and you're normally in a good mood as you're reading them. But I'm telling y'all, I was more and more frustrated with this heroine and this story the more it progressed. After finishing this story, I was ANNOYED, you could actually say I was mad.
The heroine and her lack of arc and her continued denial and running away from the Hero ruined this story.

While I enjoyed the book overall, I think it was a lot longer than it needed to be. At about 35% in, I was a bit tempted to call it quits, not because it wasn't interesting, but it did seem to drag on a bit.

For whatever reason, Jenna has had REALLY bad luck with exes. They've all used and abused her to a point. She isn't even free of them after they break up because they all keep coming back, wanting things from her or threatening her. On top of the exes, she also has stalkers (though they may be one in the same). However, she has a pretty toxic mindset. She wants a man with a house, to buy her pretty things, spoil her. She works because she has to, but ideally, she wants to be a stay at home wife / mom. There's nothing wrong with that, specifically, but she outright says she wants a man with a house to support her. That's one of the reasons she goes on dating apps at one point. I feel she never really does learn her lesson. She finally decides to focus on herself for a while, but that still doesn't really make up for her other mindset.

Meanwhile, as unhinged as everyone says the MC, McCarthy, is, he's actually the one in the right the entire time! He's right about people funneling money and not letting charity money go to the proper causes, he's right about Jenna's ex cheating on her, he's right that she's not safe, he's right with just about EVERY SINGLE THING he says. Any accusations he throws out there are 100% accurate. The way he runs his company is exactly the way his employees want it to be run. Yet throughout most of the book, he's somewhat made out to be the bad guy. Sure, his methods are questionable sometimes, but he sure as heck gets things done and resolved. I feel he isn't given nearly enough credit in the book by any of the characters. It isn't often that I side with the "grumpy MC," but he was wronged a few times and definitely deserved recognition.

Anyway. While I liked the book overall (I loved reading about all the exes and how McCarthy ended up stepping in to do his best to help her, despite her protests), I'm not sure if it's one I'd buy or read again. It's worth reading through once, at least, though.

Filed under: Books that made me question if chaos counts as character development.

I rarely DNF a book, no matter how poor or lazy the writing, but I came close with this one. I pushed through to the end, hoping the story would redeem itself, but Mr. Not Your Savior never found its footing.

Jenna is a PR pro about to lose her job because her boss’s husband hit on her, and McCarthy is an out-of-control, unethical billionaire with anger issues. Their first meeting? He punches a wall beside her head to scare her away. The rest of the book keeps that same chaotic energy: brutal, unbalanced, and often just ick.

By Chapter 34, the sex scenes are less “dark romance” and more straight-up demeaning. Anal to oral with zero consent checks. Belt kink. Hair pulling. “Cock slut” and “come slut” language thrown around like punctuation. It’s not sexy. It’s disturbing. Did Jacobs unleash her inner 13-year old horny teenage boy personality to write this stuff???

I get that Jacobs is exploring generational trauma. The siblings are cult escapees from a father with multiple wives and dozens of kids. But the execution doesn’t heal or deepen the characters. It just glorifies the harm. The brothers constantly hit, punch, and tackle each other, as if violence is the only language they know.

If you’re going to write trauma, work the trauma. Show the growth. Don’t mistake brutality for depth or “salvation by raunchy sex” for healing.

Two stars because the story exists, and I’m mildly curious if future books will apply a trauma-informed lens. But unless that happens, I’m out of this series.

Mr. Not Your Savior!: A Romantic Comedy (The Seattle Svenssons Book 2)
✨✨✨
“So bring a book.”
“I don’t think you want me reading Anally Impregnated by His Alien Mate in Seattle’s hottest new restaurant.”
“What the fuck?” McCarthy steps back. I can breathe again. “What the hell are you reading?”
“It’s Omegaverse. It’s actually sweet—not the childbirth-out-of-the-ass part, but—”
McCarthy doubles over, retching.👽👽👽

These books are such a mess- why do I read them? They are funny AF. I literally cried so much while laughing so hard at different times. And it’s some of the spiciest spicy- and the author truly‘NAILS’ the spicy.

My issue is the books always start off a bit wonky- and the dialogue transitions suck. And, then it gets so damn good that you overlook the issues.

These novels in this series irritate me so much & I still manage to love them as my ‘in between’ books.
Maybe I should lighten up about the quirks & cut some slack since I actually do like them. Regardless; three stars out of five. 💫💫💫

This one was probably my favorite of any of these books I’ve read by ALINA JACOBS.

Lots of fun dirty talk. Pain in the ass men. And well done spice. Good banter. Great insults!

I don’t just believe in an eye for an eye. You give me or someone I love a paper cut and I’m nuking your house.

Oh, my goodness, I couldn’t stop laughing. Needless to say, I loved this book! I was absolutely enthralled by the two main characters and the way their, let’s face it, pretty darn crazy relationship started, and then following along while it developed. Jenna Parker is hired by McCarthy Svensson’s older brother as a PR fixer to clean up after his latest, let’s call it an escapade. What McCarthy isn’t prepared for is the fact that Jenna isn’t going to put up with his sh#t. Okay maybe some of it, alright, alright, she puts up with way too much. McCarthy thought he could get rid of the PR “princess” quickly, but he finds out that she has a lot more spine than he gave her credit for, except when it comes to her stalking exes anyway. She says she doesn’t need him to protect her, but McCarthy realizes that he can’t let anyone hurt her, so he makes it his mission to eliminate anyone threatening her. To say that these two have issues is a massive understatement, but I adored these hysterically funny characters. Some surprising twists in the plot of this very steamy romantic comedy will make you laugh out loud and is a must-read addition to the body of work by this fantastic author. I couldn’t put this book down and recommend it to other readers!

38% in and I just have to say the Granny’s in Alina Jacobs’ stories are always my favorite. Great Granny Mavis is showing she’s fabulous:

“You finally offed the bastard. Good girl. He had it coming, if you ask me.” Granny Mavis dusts off her hands. “I’ll take the fall for the murder. Tell me where he’s buried so I can put my DNA on the body. Hell, I’m old. I’m going to croak before the state can fight my appeals.”

Granny Mavis kind of disappears the farther into the book you get. She really used up all her funny lines at the beginning. Kinda lame.

The rest of the book was good.

I loved McCarthy. He fell and fell hard for Jenna. Loved his devotion to being his true authentic crazy self.

One thing does confuse me though, how does he own RDC when Alina Jacobs website says Fitzgerald owns it?

Jenna was a basket case. At first all the ex’s popping out of the wood work was funny. The girl had stalkers coming at her left and right. Even the drama with her boyfriend who was cheating on her was interesting. I saw her bosses husband being a stalker coming a mile away. But towards the end she was just so whiny about how McCarthy couldn’t really love her. And then she falls for him putting in almost no work. Sure he got her her own PR firm but the dudes rich-rich, that was like no work at all.

Both of them growing up in communes is interesting. Though I wish we could have seen what happened to McCarthys mom and had more of a backstory on why Salinger had them run away and what life was like for them during that period.

In this book, we hear McCarthy share a bit about him and the younger brothers going into foster care, behaving badly and then reconnecting with the older siblings in a group home. But where are the deets? How old where they exactly? What made them leave home for good? We learn the dads currently on prison, but for what? And where’s their mom?

So many unanswered questions.

I’ll keep reading this series. An editor must have been found because it was way better than book 1.

“Fall in love with me. Make me the center of your universe. I dare you.”

Mr. Not Your Savior! is an absolute delight—a romantic comedy bursting with sizzling chemistry, sharp wit, and laugh-out-loud moments. When Jenna takes on the challenge of rehabilitating McCarthy’s bad-boy image as his new PR manager, she quickly realizes she’s in over her head. McCarthy is unapologetically himself: reckless, blunt, and completely uninterested in playing by anyone’s rules.

But as Jenna and her tiny dog become fixtures in his chaotic world, McCarthy begins to change in ways he never expected. And when Jenna’s stalker count starts to rise, his protective instincts kick in—along with a growing desire to win her heart.

“You made me fall in love with you. You might have said it first, but I fell for you first.”

This story is packed with snarky banter, hilarious hijinks, and tender moments that tug at the heartstrings. Both Jenna and McCarthy undergo meaningful growth: she learns to stand her ground, and he discovers the strength in vulnerability. Mr. Not Your Savior! is a rollercoaster of emotion and charm that will leave you laughing, swooning, and smiling long after the final page.

I had really, really high hopes for this... I loved the first book Mr. Absolutely Not!, and was excited to see this one released. It started off hilarious, so I also purchased the audiobook to listen to at work/car. Throughout the book, I found myself actively LOLing at work, especially with McCarthy, his brothers, and the introduction of the Elders planning all the high jinks against Jenna's exs. But there were some serious red flags, major anger issues, passive-aggressive conversations with McCarthy, Jenna, the exs, as well as unresolved trauma that took away from what would have been an excellent overall story.

I found a few inconsistencies that didn't have any major impacts overall. The spicy was top-notch; you do have to get about 50% into the book, though, that was not an issue for me, as I like a well-developed story/ characters before they become intimate.

I gave it 3 stars for the issues in italics. The addition of Truman the pup and all the animals, more so towards the end, was a bright spot. Will I read any others in the series, maybe.

This isn't some cute contemporary book. Its an insane, almost borderline dark romance book and I say that as NOT a good thing. It has possesivness, a mega asshole MMC, a pushover female lead and a very flimsy plot that could've ended 300 pages early if the female lead wasn't so stubborn. She was a naive, childish women who refused to believe that the stalkers were dangerous. Like girlfriend, you need to open your eyes because I'm finding myself agreeing with this psyco Macintosh or whatever his name is.

I read the first book in this series and I can honestly say it feels like the author copy and pasted the plot from that book to this one. Female lead has a dog that she takes everywhere, even to work? Check. Boss is an ass but a protective ass? Check. Male lead takes the women by force by keeping her on their island or penthouses? Check. Female lead has a stalker? Check. The female lead ends up marrying the male lead?check and double check. Not an original idea for this series, even if some details changed.

I really didn't like how the male lead kept pushing the female leads boundaries and touching her when she still said no. Its like he didn't care about what she wanted and his sick desires are all that mattered.

Jenna & McCarthy

These two are as unhinged as Alina's gotten! Jenna goes from fiance to fiance, ridiculously outspending her salary so when she catches her latest cheating, she has nowhere to live. She floats between her client's car, the commune on a remote island her mother runs, and other random spots. She collects toxic walking red flags like it's her job and her self-esteem is as low as it goes.
McCarthy is one of the Seattle Svenssons, the really jerky set who can't be bothered to help with their 100+ half-brothers (though they always have a few hanging around anyway). McCarthy is truly heinous. He's a complete mindfnck for Jenna, gaslughting her to extremes. He is constantly fighting people and things whenever he is slightly inconvenienced or upset, which is how Jenna the PR consultant ends up in his life. She's the umpteenth person who's tried to help McCarthy with his image and throughout the story is either failing miserably or astoundingly succeeding.
Between the geriatric commune Jenna deals with on the daily, McCarthy's antics, the stalkers, the dogs, Jenna's complexes, and McCarthy's brothers, the book is hilariously disturbing. And yet, they're absolutely perfect for one another and it's so sweet to see them find each other. 3/5 spicy

This is book 2 in The Seattle Svenssons' series by Jacobs. I have to confess that while this wasn't my favorite of hers, I still loved it. I thought that while our main characters are usually a hot mess this book went beyond my expectations - that said, I kind of loved how they fit - complete opposites! Jenna has stalkers (yes plural) and a loser finance when we start this book but as she likes to tell anyone and everyone, she is good at her job - but is she really?!? not when it comes to bad boy billionaire McCarthy. She's may have met her match and they both know it but somewhere along the way of toying with her, she creates cracks in his heart and wiggles right in. For me I so enjoyed to humor that Jenna and her dog brought as well as Granny - love that crazy - and even McCarthy's siblings brought to the book. Great level of steam as well. I just keep going back for these laughs til you snort romance reads that I can't help but get drawn into and love...I can't wait to see what's next!

This book was given to me for free at my request and I voluntarily provided this review.

This story was chaotic and hilarious and so out there and a little dark and spicy! This is book 2 of the Seattle Svenssons. Jenna works for a PR firm and McCarthy Svensson is her billionaire client. who desperately needs to clean up his public image at his brother's demand. Jenna is a hot mess, with 3 ex-fiancés and like 6 stalkers who have treated her like a literal doormat and don't let the title fool you. This man literally saves her.

McCarthy is a ruthless former military billionaire CEO and even though he is attracted to Jenna he is mean to her but he can't stop thinking about her. They couldn't be more opposites but together they work. The chemistry between them is electric and their attraction is undeniable. There is a lot of family drama and hijinks -both of their families are nuts in a funny way. Secrets are revealed which explain a lot of why McCarthy's is the way he is. Don't worry he eventually redeems himself-just a little. lol

The narrators Avery Reid as the voice of Jenna and Ryan Stone as the voice of McCarthy were cast perfectly. They brought these characters to life with their amazing talent! I really enjoyed listening to the audiobook and caught myself chuckling a lot.

Thank you to Alina Jacobs for an advanced listener copy of the audiobook in exchange for my honest review.

McCarthy Svensson was raised in a cult compound where he and all his siblings were brought to the USA.Scattered across the usa, each group is successful at what they do. McCarthy is CEO of Relentis Defense corp. His older brother Salanger has hired Prisim public relations office to change the rebellious nature of McCormack. Jenna is assigned this task. A bright, happy and cheerful lady discovers at first meeting how huge this task is. Never say never, she plugs on fighting with McCarthy every step of the way. They seem so different, yet there is a thread from their past that they have in common. They were raised in opposite kids of compounds, but not too far from different. Hers was a hippie nudist commune where her mom practices Wicca. McCarthy has no time for dating and Jenna is stalked by fiancee's of the past. Alina Jacobs has created suspense, drama, excitement and seasoned it with truly funny happenings. Gotta mention, I fell in love with Jenna's dachshund Truman.

McCarthy is a Jerk!

I said it. McCarthy the billionaire is a total jerk. To everyone. Especially his new PR rep Jenna. Who is a total doormat with two ex fiances under her belt and a balding, worthless current one named Nathan when she first meets her new client. McCarthy is large and in charge and wants to break anything and everything that gets in his way. He made me want to smack the smirk off of his face at least thirty times throughout the entirety of the book. I love me an alpha male, but McCarthy is more of an alpha dbag for the majority of the book. And Jenna? Ugh. Naive and silly and messy. Just all around annoying at times. And yet I still rooted for her? How does Alina make me root for a woman that would drive me crazy in real life? That takes talent. And yes. There are some hysterical moments and I did laugh. The spice is worthy of a repeat read even if that many consecutive O's is unlikely. I still want Crawford's story. And we better get it! 5 stars.

Mr. Not Your Savior! Is an engaging Rom Com that brings PR specialist Jenna into the realm of CEO McCarthy Svensson who wants her gone pronto!
But she needs the job and has to power her way through the job from hell.
Convincing the board of Relentis Defense that she can handle challenging men, McCarthy is proving to be a handful in the worst way.
I enjoyed reading along as another over the top Svennsson brother meets his match which results in humor, drama, quirky characters, enemies-to-lovers, and passionate encounters.
A good story bears delicious fruit as Jenna ends up handling more than just McCarthy’s public relations and a romance unexpectedly begins to blossom.
Another wonderful read to get lost in. HEA.

Omg. DNF25%.
I kept seeing little snippets and ads for this on Instagram so I thought it would be a good book. I made it to 25% and that was with a lot of skimming. I hate to say this because I would rarely say this about a book but I think this is the worst book. I’ve started this year. This book is all over the place. The FMC has multiple exes who sound who are all horrible. One is stalking and threatening her. One faked his death to pull a prank on her and had stolen some of her money Her current fiancé is having an affair of whom he got pregnant and then just suggests that she’d be the nanny. And she is a hot mess. And then the MMC it’s just horrible and cruel. There’s nothing to engage you in the story or the couple. It was way too many things going on all at once that made it pure chaos. It was like the author was trying to throw spaghetti at the wall and see what stuck.
