IT was quirky , hilarious. Had me guffawing out loud many a time, that too in public. But I am used to it. The adventures of Book 1 continue, and there is no way I can summarize this book. I found it to be somewhat like a bitter factual pill coated in the sugar of humor. Many exaggerations apply to todays world. I would recommend it to all who like satire, humor, and who like to think profoundly upon the hidden meanings of words.
I never knew when this book ended, when I realized I was halfway through book 3.
I try to group these as the collection when I read comics but they don't have this one so it'll have to be all three individually.
The art is still interesting, but the adaptation of the story isn't as good as the first book for some reason. I don't know which of the six has the introduction from Adams where he says he hates writing introductions but it would appear from reading it that he just wrote the introduction and didn't give two bits for the adaptation. The intros for the H2G2 did though so maybe something soured him on it? Who can say, especially now.
A fun read if you can find them at a library or a local used book store. Which I should point out that 2020 is a great time to frequent a local used (or new!) book store. The local one here has cats! And lest you think they're torturing people I mean the critters, not the movie.
So ill cite a short passage from the book that got me laughing : A large dairy animal approached Zaphod Beeblebrox's table, a large fat meaty quadruped of the bovine type with large watery eyes, small horns and what might almost have been an ingratiating smile on its lips. Good evening," it lowed and sat back heavily on its haunches, I am the main Dish of the Day. May I interest you in parts of my body?" It harrumphed and gurgled a bit, wriggled its hind quarters into a more comfortable position and gazed peacefully at them. I just don't want to eat an animal that's standing here inviting me to," said Arthur, it's heartless." Better than eating an animal that doesn't want to be eaten," said Zaphod.
This book got me wondering big time. And areas where my brain would buffer for seconds, no minutes maybe lels. Aside from the sentences which clearly defeated the simple to a little bit complicated sentences ,the names are clearly not to be remembered that easily (aside from the main charas), the description of events and things are also on another level . Well vene the characters are on another level cause they're not you're usual im so full of common-sense or intelligence.
This book can be easily distinguished from the other book because of it's attitude lels. It'll make you be like the what of what now? What? What?? and a thousand whats to follow ha-ha.
I found the concept totally amazing though and original . I like the kind of book where your sense of predictions are futile and you just have to trust the book to bring you where it wants to bring you.
And the ending , well it brings us to the intro of the book - trying to understand the universe when it shouldn't be or more like when it's really incomprehensible.
The pleasure of seeing yourself having hard time to process the details , I likey this books much . Wahhh.
I think I enjoyed this more than the first one because I was a little more used to it, I also focused a little bit harder w this one and that helps. The writing style is really unique and funny and fun to read but can definitely be tangential and hard to follow. I think if you’re able to keep attention to it that works but if you’re distracted the style makes it harder to focus. I think the plot and characters are very fun but not really as important as the style and the humor as well as the commentary that the book brings up. It’s just overall a fun ride and cool to see someone just take these characters on the most wild unexpected and creative shenanigans with absolutely no need to be tied to just one concept or plot or meaning.
This was a lot of fun to read. Things are as crazy as ever. This space ship is routed into the center of a sun. The passengers get teleported to the restaurant at the end of the world which changes every seating from the beginning of the universe to the end and feeds all those and then closes down and goes back to the beginning again. This is just one of the minor incidents of many. But a major question about the series is answered.
Starts off a bit tattered and difficult to follow. Midway through it starts making sense and by the end it gets very interesting. Ends well enough for me to be excited about the next book. So far the series speaks a lot about the human psyche, the importance, or non-importance, of different events and actions, and what 42 actually means.
Absolutely no substitute for the actual novel or the radio series, but the graphic novels would be a good introduction to the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy if you’ve managed to avoid H2G2 for the past 42 years.
Not sure if it’s just my copy or an error for the entire print run, but about half a dozen pages in the middle of this book were out of sequence that would have made for confusing reading had I not already read the novel about thirty times
Have saw the serial and the movies and read the books individually and as omnibus and different sets, hardback, still in my library, says a lot. Date wrong, just saw it to review. also listened to radio ones of course
