What do you give a woman who owns a flower shop? Skye Alexander has a dog named Kitty, an adopted grandmother who thinks John Wayne is cute, a kind heart, and the sunniest attitude on the planet. Even when she spritzes him with her florist water at their first meeting, Skye is the most refreshing thing that has ever happened to Dr. Gage Garrison. Confident, successful, and seriously disillusioned, when Gage meets Skye one evening at her shop she is like a shot of pure, sweet oxygen to his spirit. So he pesters her until she agrees to go out with him. But later, when he realizes that her dog is a guard dog, that Skye has a black belt in Tae Kwon Do, and is an expert with a handgun, he begins to wonder what scars she’s hiding behind that beautiful, sweet smile. And what is she so afraid of?
Jaclyn M. Hawkes grew up in Utah with 6 sisters, 4 brothers and a large number of pets. (It was never boring!)
She got a bachelor’s degree, had a career, and traveled extensively before settling down to her life’s work of being the mother of four magnificent and sometimes challenging children. She loves shellfish, the out of doors, the youth, and hearing her children laugh.
She and her fine husband, their family, and their sometimes very large pets, now live in a mountain valley in northern Utah, where it smells like heaven and kids still move sprinkler pipe.
I love every book I have read by this author. This one is great too. This one is both happy and sad, along with exciting and mysterious. Once you start you'll have to keep reading, so prepare for another late night.
I had high hopes for this book, but sadly, I was disappointed. It was so much like the storyline of The Most Important Catch (one of her earlier books) with a doctor stalker and the MC running from state to state for her life and meeting someone that I was tempted to not continue reading it. Some of the phrases even sounded the same from that book to this one. I was really disappointed that Tuacahn was spelled incorrectly. I know that's dumb, but it's the name of a place. The spelling should have been checked. There were other spelling errors as well (pealing should have been peeling). The repeated use of the same adverbs (ex. incredibly) gets tiring. Skye bugged me at the beginning of the book when she was judging Gage for his negative comments about work. It's not healthy for people to be positive and upbeat about everything all the time. It gets to be fake. I liked her better by the end of the book because she was actually acting human with normal human emotions. Gage was super cute. The perfect boyfriend. He and his brother were my favorite characters. The scenes with the two of them were funny. I liked that it was clean. I liked the cover. I wouldn't read this one again.
This was just ok for me, the beginning and middle seemed to drag a bit too much and then finally towards the end it got better. I finished it, which says enough I guess.
Moral Note: Talk about a stalker, some abuse in a relationship, some innuendos, some drug use, nothing graphic. Mild LDS religious elements. Says they cursed, without saying curse words.
The plot of this story was decent, but I felt it needed heavy editing. A lot of the dialogue and storytelling was repetitive and boring. Story-wise it would have been a gripping novella, but there definitely wasn’t enough substance to support its novel format. This was my first read from this author and probably my last.
Wow what a story, suspense, romance, a Christian message and so much more! This book was a page turner I just wanted to know what was going to happen next and how was it going to end! I really enjoyed this story the author is new to me. I highly recommend this book to anyone. I would read this book again.
This was another cute and adorable story, Skye is the owner of a florist shop, when Gage stops to collect a flower order they immediately hit off and he invites her to a ballet. It soon becomes apparent to Gage that Skye is hiding something.
He pesters her until she agrees to go out with him. After the date to see his niece in the Nutcracker ballet, Gage is determined to see Skye again, while Skye is far from ready to start a relationship. Skye pushes him away over and over until he begins to wonder what scars she’s hiding behind that beautiful, sweet smile. A fun little romance. Skye has some serious issues she is running from, but has a positive attitude. Gage is more serious minded & works to hard to remember to take time for fun. A sweet read with a happy ending. language: clean, heat level: mild
(Genre:Fiction/romance) Chiropractor Gage Garrison stops at a flower shop on his way to the ballet one December night and finds himself very interested in the beautiful owner, Skye. As he cultivates a friendship with her, it becomes apparent that Skye is hiding things in her past. As Gage slowly unravels her secrets, he finds himself falling for her, even though it could be dangerous for them both. While I liked the main characters, I thought they were a little too perfect to feel real. I also found the plot to be slow and rather burdensome at times. But otherwise, it was a nice, clean romance that was good for a distraction. Low 3 stars.
It all starts with at a flower shop and a date to his nieces nutcracker performance. Then you're on pins and needles as you grow to love a spunky adopted grandma as strokes claim her mortal body, a stalker has found Skye and she is antsy to pick up and run again despite the love that has unexpectedly grown for gage as he too has fallen for this unexpected woman who brings such happiness into his life.
Skye Alexander is a young florist. When handsome Dr. Gage Garrison shows up at her shop 20 minutes after closing and knocks on the door, her first instinct is to ignore him but her big heart makes her open the door to give him his flowers. When she finds out they are for his "niece" and he begs her to go to the Nutcracker ballet with him, she caves against all her mind and goes with her heart. This book brought me lots of different emotions- happy, sad, afraid, and was well written.
I loved everything about this book. Putting it down was difficult to do. I loved the theme of the book that was so adeptly described in the title. The relationship between the two main characters was beautiful. I love reading about falling and being in love forever. Jaclyn's books help me believe in that forever kind of love.
This was a fun story. The characters were believable and the storyline engaging. It had a 'waiting for something dangerously bad to happen tension' throughout (almost) the whole book, which is not usually the author's style. But, if you love reading books ripe with an edge of dangerous tension woven with the love story of two entrepreneurs, then you will love this one!
These are always well balanced stories. There is a heroine who is strong, full of unknown strength and skill. A hero who appreciates her. And a situation which will demand the best of them both. The chemistry is great!
This was my first time reading Jaclyn M. Hawkes and I was hooked after the first chapter. A thoroughly enjoyable book. I just wished there was an epilogue. Or even better, a sequel! But still, a very interesting read.
I really appreciated the interesting and witty dialogue. The plot dragged too slowly and I skimmed the last half. I felt like these characters proved by the end that they belonged together, which doesn't happen in all romances.
It's not only the Love Story that will draw you in but the characters that will melt your heart it's a book that will have you laughing and crying while reading it.
I love all of Jaclyn Hawkes books. I love how they treat each other. Even if sometimes that it isn't real life, it is something for me to aspire to be...nicer and more thoughtful to one another.
I pretty much always enjoy Jaclyn Hawkes' books and this was no exception. It was nice to have a different setting for the story--St. George, a place I know pretty well.
The reason I didn't like this book was because the characters were to perfect. I didn't feel like they had any dimension and it got on my nerves a little bit.
I cannot wait to read any book Jaclyn writes -- I have yet to be disappointed. They definitely leave you feeling better. This one was no different -- LOVED it!
Skye is hunted by a crazy old boyfriend, she tries to live as discreetly as possible. Then she meets Gage and he helps her to see that living a full life is her only option.
I have read all of Jaclyn Hawkes books--they are fun clean romances. This one however seemed to drag on for awhile and the main characters didn't have as much chemistry as her other books have had.
Is was a wonderful Book to read had you glued to the book, cause was lots of happiness ruined cause of an ex boyfriend. Pretty tense in places. Couldn't wait to get to the end
I wanted to like this more than I did. I couldn't get over the convenient way she got rid of the bad guy at the end. No, no, no, it didn't make it worth the read.
