Väga mitmetisi tundeid tekitav teos. Ega teema kohta polegi midagi öelda. Ericson kirjutab olulisel ja põneval teemal, suutes persoone portreteerida väga silmiavavalt. Toimetaja Jaanus Piirsalu joonealused märkused jätavad aga autorist kohati diletandi mulje, sest mõned vead on üpriski lapsikud.

Kõik see ei muuda aga lõppjäreldust selle kohta, et oligarhia saavutas NSVL lagunemise järel pretsedenditult suure rolli Venemaa avalikus elus ning sama on juhtunud riigikapitalismiga Putini võimule tulles. Kõige selle toimumist saab antud teosega hästi meenutada.

Den här boken har minst sagt tagit oförskämt länge att läsa upp. Utan tvekan inte något man plockar upp och sträckläser tydligen, i alla fall inte för mig. Men till dess försvar var det otroligt intressant läsning. Har länge velat få en mer övergripande men samtidigt mer djuplodande insikt om alla oligarker. Det var främst spännande att höra utvecklingen från nomenklatura-oligarkerna till entreprenörerna klev in. Sedan blev det tyvärr lite mycket fokus på den ekonomiska utvecklingen. Överlag, över förväntan.

Maybe if the topic about Russia and oligarchs is totally new to you this is a good book. If you already read something before most is old news. It's fascinating to read about big money, strange decisions and bonds between people in politics, but I would have wanted more analysis.

The book definitely have parts that are good (last parts are very good), but for me it lacked structure. It felt a bit random on what would be next. Like out of the blue there is a short section about a person without any connection to the rest of the text (and sometimes the person section ends without any punch line or natural transition point back to the main text). All books don't need to follow chronological order, but then there need to be some strings attaching one section to another.

Overall a good book if you are interested in Russia, politics and business.

Jeśli ktoś ma małą wiedzę o tym jak wyglądały przemiany strukturalne w gospodarce rosyjskiej, a także życzy sobie przeczytać garść ciekawostek o tych, którzy za nimi stali, to polecam jedną gwiazdką dodać. Spodziewałem się trochę bardziej pogłębionego dobra, no ale chociaż cytaty przed rozdziałami przypadły mi bardzo do gustu.

Not a bad overview

There's a lot of detail about the personalities described in the book. Coherent analysis that follows a thesis is less abundant. Worth reading, but not as the only book you'd read on the topic. Supplement it with (at least) Goldman's Petrostate.
