I have thoroughly enjoyed the previous Corcoran Team books, and this one was just as good. It was action packed from the first page. Cameron and his two team members are on the island to find and question a witness to the drug runners working there. Unfortunately, with the probability of a corrupt police department, they are on their own.
Julia is in the middle of dealing with her late father's property when she hears gunshots. As she rushes to get indoors she is overtaken by Cam, and suddenly becomes part of the action. Though she doesn't trust easily, something tells her that Cam is okay. He saves her from the people who are after him. He wants to get her off the island and to safety, but she feels safer with him. She also uses her knowledge of the island and its people to convince him to keep her around.
Cam isn't sure he's doing the right thing, but he's never had a woman get under his skin so fast. He's impressed with her ability to remain calm under the most stressful of circumstances. The biggest problem he has with it is the chemistry between them that is creating one big distraction.
I really loved seeing these two together. Both have trust issues, Julia because of her life with her drunk of a father, and Cam because of having grown up in the foster system. The intensity of their situation has them getting closer very quickly. It was a lot of fun to see Cam try to talk her into going someplace safe, and Julia having none of it. Even the couple times he tried to sneak off were unsuccessful. Because of their own issues, each was more understanding of where the other's attitude was coming from. Neither was looking for any kind of relationship either, but it quickly became clear that something was happening between them. It was fun to see Julia as she showed Cam that she wasn't pushing for anything more than he was willing to give, making it easier for him to actually consider what it was he really wanted. When everything went down at the end, I liked the way that Cam was so worried about Julia and what her reaction would be. I liked the fact that they didn't rush too fast into a permanent relationship, but were planning a slower growth to what they had. I loved seeing how his two teammates gave him a bit of a hard time about what was happening, but were also supportive. The last chapter with those two was especially amusing. I'm really looking forward to their stories.
The suspense part of the story was really good. The action began on the first page and never really let up. It seemed as though Cam and Julia were barely one step ahead of the bad guys at any time. One of the leaders was identified early on, and seeing the action from his viewpoint sometimes had me wondering how he was still alive. He had a habit of underestimating just what Cam was capable of doing. There were also several instances when I wondered just how Cam and Julia were going to get out of the particular situation they were in. The person who was running the whole operation took me a little longer to figure out, but not by too much. I really enjoyed seeing Cam and Julia outwit him, especially at the end, when his ego really had him making some boneheaded decisions.
This was a fast paced, enjoyable read. I’ve enjoyed the previous Corcoran Team books. I was looking forward to reading this one, and it didn’t disappoint. I love how close the team is, and how they watch each other’s backs. They were sent to Calapan a small island to interview a person that knew about the drug trade. The team ended up in a shootout. The police department, if you could call it that was corrupt. Julia came back to Calapan to clean her father’s house, and sale it after he passed away. The shoot out took place in her father’s yard, and ended up inside house. She didn’t know who to trust, but Cameron promised to protect her. She doesn’t trust easily. I really liked her spunk throughout the book. She was a strong heroine. I loved her wit. The team was asking for direction to a house. They didn’t want her to come with them. She said they needed her. They said all they needed was the address. This was her reply – sample from chapter 4 - Fine. She shrugged. Go to the fourth turn past the group of willows by the water where all the kids went skinny-dipping in high school. Shane stared at her. Maybe a street name? There isn’t one, to my knowledge. Rudy lives in a shack. She sent Cam that I-told- you- so- grim she’d all but promised.
This book had non stop action, suspense, and romance. It was a fun book to read.
I enjoyed this book about Cameron and Julia. Cam works for a security firm that specializes in missing or kidnapped persons. He is on the island to interview a witness but something went wrong and the police are not the police when he went to their office.
Julia is in her home when Cam and three other men come on her property firing guns. She is no stranger to guns because of her father. She helps Cam escape the men but now she is also being hunted. They have to hide together and find his team.
When they find his team, they are still in the dark about the police. They have to figure out what's happening on the island and fix it.
I enjoyed this intriguing romance. I voluntarily chose to review this story and I've given it a 4.5* rating. This is another of the Corcoran Team series. Lots of action with twists and turns to key you turning the page. Because of the sexual content, this is not for the under 18 readers. I really enjoyed the characters in this. I don't know if they were strong because they were stubborn or stubborn because they were strong. Maybe a little bit of both. An investigation turned into gun play right from the first and I really needed to know how it would turn out.
An exciting new series that will have you wanting more and more of this new series. I just got done reading Cornered • Corcoran Team: Bulletproof Bachelors #1 by: HelenKay Dimon.
Now that the Corcoran home team has been all paired up HelenKay Dimon introduces the travelling team, the Bulletproof Bachelors, a group of former soldiers who handle the jobs across the nation. On an island off the coast of Washington state Julia is doing what she can to close up her father’s property and move on. What she doesn’t expect are gun shots and undercover agent Cameron bringing her along for the ride. Something’s going down on the island and Cam and his team are there to bring down a drug ring but with a potential corrupt sheriff’s department and an unknown boss driving the action Julia gets dragged in to the action. With her knowledge of the island and the people on it she is a valued asset but can she separate her growing feelings for Cam from the locals she has a history with? Fun, fast paced story. Some small references to the original team so this could be read as a stand-alone with only slight confusion but best enjoyed with the full series under your belt. Great read!
**HelenKay is a personal friend, take this review however you want**
I haven't read any other books in the series. While this is a standalone story, I felt like if you haven't read the entire series up until this book, there's a lot of info and back story missing.
I liked the story overall. Julia was totally impressive with the way she handled all the crazy things thrown at her from the moment Cam intrudes on her privacy. Talk about an unconventional meeting, which really followed their unconventional relationship. And because the insta-attraction lead to insta- love for two people who have a whole mountain of mis-trust not to mention commitment issues between them, I found it hard to really believe any sort of "falling" between the two characters at the end. It just felt a bit false for me.
The suspense in the story was well written- I liked the nice touch with multi-purpose watch. Very James Bond.
When Cameron Roth pushes his way into Julia White's home because he is being shot at, he soon realizes he needs Julia in all ways and has to protect her. Julia doesn't know what to think except she knew she really hadn't wanted to come home to take care of her father's house after his death.
The action and romance just bombard you in a good way. Only Helenkay Dimon can deliver this kind of book. Keep them coming, Helenkay Dimon!
Cornered lived up to its name. Cameron and Julia are definitely cornered on a small island by the bad guys. Can they learn to trust each other to save themselves and solve the crime that Cam is there to investigate? This is a page turner from start to finish. HelenKay Dimon once again infuses intrigue, suspense, and romance into her great storytelling style in the Corcoran Team series.
Cameron Roth literally ran into Julia. He thought he as immune from falling for anyone until he met her. Julia has trust issues, but for some reason feels that she can trust him even though dead bodies keep showing up around them. The action is this story is non-stop. It's exciting, tense, fun and hot all at the same time. I highly recommend.
UNDERCOVER AGENT CAMERON ROTH IS ON TRAIL OF DRUG-RUNNING CRIME CARTEL ON AN ISLAND. WHEN AN INNOCENT WOMAN IS DRAWN IN THE CROSS FIRE IN ORDER TO SAFE HIMSELF. THE WOMAN JULIA WHITE TRANSFORMS HIS HIGH-STAKES ASSIGNMENT INTO SOMETHING MORE. LOTS OF EXCITEMENT AND QUESTIONS AS TO WHO IS BEHIND AND LEADER OS CARTEL.
Good to read--it was fast finished in one day. I didn't really like the character development. Plot was ok. Seemed the lead male, Cameron, did things that caused the female lead, Julia to get in trouble all the time.
