As she grows closer to Bennett, evil forces threaten to destroy everything she loves. Will she have accepted her family legacy, only to find she was too late? Dark Destiny is the first of three novellas, PG rating: mild language and innuendo.
I’ve read all of Nancy Campbell Allen (aka Kari Gray) books and was so excited when I saw she was going to be writing a new paranormal novella series. I got it the day it came out and devoured it in one sitting. She really can write any genre!
Lily is a descendent from the Salem Witches, but after losing her parents she doesn’t want anything to do with her “powers” and closes them off. Then one day she awakens after a bomb exploded at her aunt’s boutique and she realizes she should have been honing her powers, not ignoring them. To get answers and to protect her aunt she opens herself up to her powers and goes on the hunt for an elusive talisman.
I thought this was a fun novella; a lot is packed in to the 118 pages! Lily was a likable heroine, I liked that she was strong and wanted to take matters into her own hands. I also liked that she was willing to accept help when she needed it. I liked the romance with her and Bennett. They had been friends for a long time and had drifted apart when he started dating another girl. They’re reunited after the explosion and realize the depth of their feelings. The romance was sweet, a little fast, but considering the length of the novel and the fact that they had known each other before made it believable. The overall story was fun and I look forward to reading the rest of the books! Beautiful cover!
Content Romance: Clean, mild innuendo (a little steamier than her other books) Language: Mild (H, D, S) Violence: Mild
This is a short story that is a good beginning to these sisters story. Three sister have gifts that are given to them by there ancestors who were witches. This is focused on the oldest sister who is almost killed in the beginning and the paramedic who comes on the scene is an old friend from collage. The book really takes off and was done well and is well developed. I was a little surprised by the content. This is a Christian author Allen who has gone by Gray because the content of these books are not like her other books. There is sexual innuendo, talking about body parts and being turned on. There is some swear words scattered. It was just weird for me if she had left those couple little things out this would have been an amazing book I would have enjoyed reading a lot more.
First of all, isn't this cover gorgeous? It perfectly depicts this mystical novella. The author takes you to the French Quarter where magic exists, as do evil voodoo men. Right away you are brought head first into action and romance. Lily and her aunt are injured in an explosion, but she is reunited with her best friend, Bennett, who takes care of her. For years, Lily has been avoiding her magical heritage, but once she is confronted by the man who tried to kill her and her aunt, Lily, along with her sisters, do their best to try to stop his evil plans.
I really enjoyed this novella. It reads fast and is full of page-turning events. I loved the magic and the mystery. I can't wait for the next one.
I don't usually read this kind of story but liked the premise of this one. It did not disappoint. Very well written with believable situations. It was action filled from page one. I wanted more and will buy more from this author. My only disappointment is the rest of the series is not complete. I didn't want the story to end! I am dying to know what happened to Poppy and what her strange new connection is to Othello is all about. Please hurry and write the next book!
This was an interesting novella. It had some fantasy stuff with powers. I did not like what the imagery of the tendrils or what her mind interpreted to be tendrils did. Other than that it was a fast interesting read that kept me interested enough to search for the next. Take that for what you will. It was mostly clean only the thoughts of people she saw were not completely clean. Sure made me think about my thoughts and what my own thoughts would be portrayed as. Interesting and weird.
