PRIMAL #5

PRIMAL Reckoning

Rate this book
Corrupt cops, cartel gunmen, and a ruthless mining corporation. These are the forces arrayed against Mexican farmers fighting for their land and livelihood. Justice seems far from their grasp, until PRIMAL intervenes.

Taking down a gold mining operation should be straightforward for our covert vigilantes. However, land is not the only resource being exploited, and PRIMAL is faced with its deadliest adversary to date; gunned-up, cashed-up, CIA-backed, private military contractors.

PRIMAL Reckoning follows after PRIMAL Fury. It is the first in a trilogy of books pitting PRIMAL against CIA-backed contractors.

I won’t lie, I’m just like every other guy on the planet. I love action movies, first person shooters, fast cars, technology, guns, cool kit and of course beautiful women. I grew up with Dirk Pitt, Jack Ryan, Jason Bourne, Doom, Wolfenstein, Commando Comics, James Bond, Rambo, The Predator and more. As a young man I have embraced Counter Strike, Half-life, The Bourne Series, Top Gear, Call of Duty the list goes on and on. Coupled with my military experience this seething mass of adrenalin-fueled testosterone has evolved into PRIMAL.

Man, I feel kind of bad leaving a 3-star review. The lowest review I have ever given to any PRIMAL book/novella, and I have read them all. Reckoning is the 1st book in a new trilogy and the premise is that PRIMAL discovers an "evil" version of themselves. Their version of SPECTRA to James Bond's MI-6.

While I love this series, I thought this was not up to the usual high standards. It was very low tech for most of the book. A slow setup? The villains were a joke, hard to take them seriously....the plot of this story was straight from the Magnificent Seven. Given that Bishop would be Steven McQueen, which PRIMAL operator would be Yul? Maybe Mitch? I read another book similar to this recently: Killer in Black by Paul Bennett. Same thing: someone is trying to force people off their land and are ruthless and so on. That wasn't a bad story, but again, the villains were kinda of goofy. Where or where can we find another Hans Gruber?

Like I said, I have been a PRIMAL fan since the very beginning, but I tell ya, if this was my first PRIMAL book, then it would probably be my last. I'll hang in there and see if this "evil" version of PRIMAL turns out to be a worthy opponent.

I would have rated this a bit higher if some aspects hadn't lacked realism to the point where I laughed. For instance, as a person who lives in El Paso, Texas and spent many years flying in and out of our airport as well as neighboring ones as a flight instructor, I have to sadly inform the author that in no way, shape, or form is Horizon Airport (aka West Texas Airport, now defunct for quite some years by either name) a "preferred stop" for biz jets of any kind, nor has it ever been. A single pilot flying a G650? NO. Pilots of a G650 leaving the cockpit unattended while flying on autopilot (which is the typical scenario anyway)? NO. This was not the only area I chuckled at.

The book is entertaining, yes—but so are the first-person shooter games the author apparently admires. But I find a book a bit more entertaining and enjoyable if a little voice in the back of my head whispers, "Could this be real?" At least within this genre, I do. My little voice was silent just about the entire time.

Good Book

I have read a few of the reviews for Mr. Silverstone's work and while they are interesting in their description of the technical bits of the book, my review will be about how wonderful Bishop, Mirza and Mitch were in helping the totally inadequate poor people who were being mistreated. I love when we have a man or a group who are capable of fighting well on the side of justice. I will definitely purchase the other two books in this trilogy. Job well done!

A definite must read

This was another intense, complex, and suspenseful thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end. It's certainly a must read series for those who love thrillers!
Oh how I wish that there were several of these types of groups with the same moral compass as this guys/gal have that could target all of the evil and depraved in the world. JMO!!
I would definitely recommend this book, series, and outstanding author.

Another fun read by Silkstone. This time he gets you involved early so you don’t have to wade through a bunch of chapters to figure out what is happening. Loved the use of drones and how they played in the story. I always like techie stuff, as long as it’s real. He uncovers some nemesis organizations that will have to be dismantled, so we can expect more Primal. 5

Excellent as Usual

The Primal group continues its campaign to clean up as many of the world's terrorist groups as possible. The plot is believable and does not require the reader to completely suspend common sense. A good read for escapism.

to be continued

This story has lots of action and many different parts. It involves highly placed and sourced villains. But the story doesn’t end here. There is lots more intense action to come, I would imagine, from how this part has been set up.

Action and Adventure Galore!

I rank this up there with James Bond and Arnold Schwarzenegger times at least six with this dynamic team of players! If you want fast action, guts and glory, and plenty of potentially lethal gadgets, gizmos, fire power, guns of every type, and a penchant for dramatic effect, as well as laughter and camaraderie, look no further. Clever storylines abound, but beware--it can be very graphic and violent even for adults. If you can get by the adult themes, and blood and gore, it's a great read. Don't get your heart set on all of the good guys living happily ever after, so try not to get too attached to everyone on the team, or even those caught upon in the sidelines. All of the players are expendable, even children and animals. So grab a box of tissue, a "PRIMAL Reckoning" adventure, and prepare to get caught up in a good adventure for a day or two. Delightful book, expertly crafted! I look forward to more!

A well written fast paced novel with likable, and not so likable, characters that really came to life. Lots of graphic action, but a tad disappointing in the romance department. For a bit there, I thought Aden (Bishop) was going to get lucky, but not so. There were quite a few typos, but nothing that distracted from the flow of the text. I look forward to the continuation of this series. A good Action Hero story.

This was a good book. Very fast paced and action packed. I liked the fact that this book was more realistic, dealing with real world problems and people. The adrenaline rush, fear, survivor guilt etc. you can feel the emotions along with Aden. Very well written though, and easy to follow. I recommend this book.

silky smooth

I was pleasantly surprised that the PRIMAL operatives left the space suits at home in this novel. I kept waiting for the suits to get broken out but Bish and the boys kicked ass on their own. This was another great PRIMAL read.

This series just keeps getting better!

Great character development. The reader is kept on the edge of his seat. Noted a number of typos and hope the author becomes more diligent in his editing.
