Insidius

Rate this book
As the fire-wielding Ember legions scorch their way across Novum Albion, the mountain stronghold of Lapidius stands alone, its ancient order of Stoneseekers dwindling, its defenses failing. Young cadet Joey Voboril, thrust into a deadly mission alongside the fierce and enigmatic Maisie, must brave cursed forests, monstrous beasts, and a crumbling alliance to reach the last safe city. But survival is only the beginning.

The Stoneseekers are on the brink of collapse, their ancient school teetering on the edge of annihilation. Joey and Maisie carry more than supplies and they carry the future of Lapidius, and perhaps all of Novum Albion itself. Carrying a sealed letter that could change everything, Joey holds the key to a war no one believes can be won.

A story of resistance, magic, and the quiet courage it takes to stand when the world burns.

A fabulous sequel to the first book!
In the sequel we have some exciting character development. The cadets we came to know in the first book are no longer training and playing war games.
They academy has been left behind and they are all fighting a real war. Set off in separate groups they have to use their wit and their talent to stay alive.
Great action sequences. Fast paced. Excellent read!

Joey and Maisie are now fully fledged cadets. Leaving the relative safety of Lapidius they are thrust into a world at war with the evil Embers. There are some epic battle scenes and some emotionally charged ones when Joey and Maisie find something in a distant town behind enemy lines. The book ended on a somber note but left it open for a potential third book which I am looking forward to seeing coming out.
