"When I become Wild Side, everything falls into place."
Damn, Elsie has done it again! I swear she is the QUEEN of small town romance, and I will never get enough!
Wild Side is the third installment in the Rose Hill series and is my favorite yet. Small town romance is becoming one of my favorites. It doesn't stop there. It's also a marriage of convenience, which I love and was portrayed so well, another favorite single dad, and slow burn. It is not just a romance, though, but a story following the process of loss, greiving, and healing.
Tabitha crossed paths with Rhys three years ago when he became her sister's landlord. Now, as she grieves the loss of her sister, he approaches her with the news that he has been left guardianship of her nephew. When guardianship is contested, they form a plan to marry until they can figure things out.
Tabitha Garrison works at the local bistro that she owns, and it fits her as she loves taking care of others. I love that Elsie writes such strong fmcs, and she is no exception. She is so strong-willed, fierce, sassy, and sarcastic, and I adore her so much. She goes through great lengths to protect and do anything for her family and loved ones. This was shown with what she went through and did for her sister. She literally did everything that she could to help her when her sister didn't always deserve it. I understand why she did what she did. That protectiveness was always there for her nephew Milo and got even stronger. She would do anything for him, and it shows through her in everything that she does. She is so strong that she's not one to break down, but when she did, I just wanted to wrap her in the strongest hug and hold her.
“I am with my family, Rhys. If I didn’t want to be here with you, I wouldn’t be.”
Rhys Dupris is a professional wrestler who hides himself until he takes on the role of his character. When he's in character, he holds himself more confident and is able to put his insecurities aside. He's not one to open up to people and hides a lot about himself, and he doesn't feel like he deserves many things that he has due to his upbringing. He is so selfless, though, caring, and holds a soft spot for Milo. Their relationship was so cute to watch. I just loved watching him slowly open himself up and show his vulnerabilities. I love a man who can show this side of himself, too bad not many men in real life do. Oh, and the mouth on this man, yes, please! Oh, and Elsie made me fall for another man with the name Rhys.
"Being Wild Side was my ticket out of a tough upbringing, and slipping into character always feels like tugging on a favorite old hoodie. It feels like peace."
Tabitha and Rhys start off with animosity with her constantly trying to push him away while he just stood by and took it, turned into a marriage of convenience, that dipped into a slowly budding relationship. Their sexual tension and banter along the way was everything. The chemistry that these two exuded for one another is off the charts, though it burned slowly while also toeing the line of spicy. I loved the way that he was protective of her and the way that she was always teasing him in a fun, playful way that kept things on the lighter side when it was needed. She showed him that she would be there for him at every turn whether he wanted her to or not, and was worthy of being loved. He showed her the care that she needed even when she didn't think she did or didn't want to take it. They just worked so well together from the very start, even though they didn't know it.
“Thank you, Tabitha.”
“For what?”
“Turning my life from black and white to full color.”
“You did the same for me. I help you find your color, and you help me find mine.”
I swear Elsie writes some of the best found family! I'm such a sucker for it and eat it up every time! I loved seeing West, Skylar, Ford, Rosie, and Skylar once again. The support that they all give to not only Tabby but one another is endearing.
I was a bit worried about the pro wrestling in this one, but it worked for me. And even though I was in a mini slump, I still couldn't seem to put this down. I can always depend on Elsie to help me with a slump and keep me hooked. Now, I'll be over here impatiently the next in the series that has me intrigued.

“What’s wrong, husband? You look like you can’t decide whether you want to kill me or fuck me.”
“I pinky promise that no matter what happens, I will never take anything that’s yours.”
“You know these aren’t legally binding, right?”
“Yeah, but only a total asshole breaks a pinky promise.”
“I pinky promise that no matter what happens, I will never take anything that’s yours.”
“I wish you weren’t seeing me like this.” My brow furrows. “Like what?” “At my worst.” I tip my head toward her. “Then it’s all uphill from here, baby. It’s going to make seeing you at your best so damn special.”
