Rosalia Dawson is on the verge of a breakthrough in the elite world of event planning — until a major client slips through her fingers. Desperate to stay in the game, she finds herself crossing paths with the one man she swore she’d never wanted to see again.
Mateo Acosta lives life in the fast lane — on and off the Formula 1 track. But when a scandal threatens to destroy his career, damage control comes in the form of a ridiculous fake dating the woman he just accused of betrayal.
Their chemistry is explosive, their banter is brutal, and their "relationship" is the talk of the racing world. But as the lines between love and loathing blur, Rosalia and Mateo will have to decide what's real, what's not, and what it means when pretending starts to feel a lot like falling.
Was so intrigued by the tropes that I signed up for Arc.
Rosa is an event planner and Mateo is F1 racer. At the beginning everything went so well ,So I was thinking where is Rival or one bed trope. It is introduced in between of the story ,which I actually liked.
Mateo not taking advantage of drunk girl was a highlight for me that’s so gentleman behaviour. But then something happened with him and he doubted Rosa’s intentions towards him which was kinda understandable because he’s famous & went through many back stabbing but he was kinda d*** to her,am glad Rosa took stand for herself there. Then he shut himself up and build his walls up but her trying to break it and in process of pushing her away,he said many mean things which made me love him little less but then in the end he corrected all his mistakes and took hold of his emotions.
Rosa deserves a slow clap for putting up with Mateo’s attitude and thinking this connection deserves a chance no matter what he say ,because that was so mature when she is actually younger than him.I felt she was much dominant in relationship than Mateo which actually I kinda loved, him being submissive to her was so great to read.
The scandal thing was kinda rushed ,I wanted to know more about that.I loved everything else it’s a good read.
Red Queen by Bridget Taylor is the first instalment in the Pit Stop series set in the Formula 1 world. This book follows Mateo Acosta, who is aspiring for the championship but the break of a scandal threatens his dreams, and Rosalia Dawson, an ambitious event planner whose uncle is the owner of one of the rival teams! Their initial attraction is followed by Mateo accusing Rosalia of betrayal for hiding her link to the rival team to them agreeing to fake date - as a solution to his PR disaster and her networking to get introduced to potential clients.
Despite its promising premise, the book fell short on several key narrative fronts. The major story arcs—meant to be the backbone of the plot—felt underdeveloped, with little to no buildup. The scandal resolution was rushed, tucked into a few lines late in the book, and the championship win lacked the momentum or emotional payoff to feel truly earned. Rosalia’s career trajectory was also underwhelming; for someone positioned as an elite event planner, there was barely any engagement with high-net-worth clients, which made her professional arc feel disconnected.
The romance itself was difficult to invest in. The leads never addressed the pivotal moment that turned their mutual attraction into animosity, and their emotional shift toward love felt unconvincing. The banter often missed the mark, and I found myself growing increasingly frustrated with the male lead’s actions. Not one single trope or subplot lived up to its potential, and even the side characters—presumably setup for future installments—didn’t leave much of an impression.
Overall, I spent most of the book wondering: What on earth is even happening here? It had all the ingredients for a high-stakes, sizzling romance but delivered a story that felt scattered and unearned. Truly, the most underwhelming read yet for me.
just completed reading the advanced copy of ‘Red Queen’ by Bridget Taylor from Literary Loft PR Services. Thank you so much for this opportunity! I’m really glad to have advanced a copy.
As you all know, I’m into F1 Romance - that’s Formula 1 and romance - and this book is based on Formula One Romance story.🤌🏻
The story revolves around Rosa, an event planner who has a connection with Formula 1 because her uncle is in F1. She often visits to hang out, and that’s where she meets Matteo, a talented F1 driver who’s quite the catch.
Rosa and Matteo’s story begins when she’s rescued by him after getting into a situation with another F1 driver🫣. Let’s just say things take off between them from there. I don’t want to spoil it for you guys by revealing more about the story, but I can say that this was one of the best F1 books I’ve read.
As a huge fan of Formula One, I loved how Matteo and Rosa’s story blended sports and romance perfectly. The way they start dating due to certain plot twists, including fake dating, is engaging. 🏴☠️One important note: this book is an 18+ story, so if you’re below 18, I request you not to read it. It’s not for children.
When Matteo and Rosa start dating, they have their share of arguments and disagreements, but somehow, they fall for each other. The way they confess their feelings to each other, especially Matteo’s confession to Rosa in the paint room, was the best part for me. I loved that scene.🫶🏻🔥
Overall, I think the author has done a great job. This book is perfect for someone looking for a blend of spice, F1 romance, and relationship drama. Also When things go wrong between Rosa and Matteo due to misunderstandings, I totally agree with Rosa’s reaction (she slapping him - well he deserves that for beaing an a**hole ) and I loved how his mother helps him understand his feelings !!
For me, this book is 4 out of 5 stars (okay one star less because I dnt like too much of spice - otherwise its a solid 5/5 ) , and I think it’s one of the best novels out there if you’re looking to explore Formula One romance.
Fast cars, fake love, and real feelings—Red Queen has it all.
This story follows Mateo Acosta, a hot-headed, drop-dead gorgeous F1 racer, and Rosalia Dawson, an ambitious, smart event planner with zero time for drama. They meet in the most chaotic way possible, clash instantly, and somehow get tangled in a fake dating setup thanks to a scandal that threatens Mateo’s career.
Rosa is such a refreshing female lead—strong, sassy, and so self-aware. She stands up for herself and calls Mateo out when he’s being difficult. Honestly, she carried the emotional weight of the story so well. And Mateo? A disaster in the best way. Cocky, emotionally guarded, but also unexpectedly sweet when it matters. Watching him grow, open up, and fall for Rosa was so satisfying.
These two had amazing chemistry. Their banter made me smile, their fights had me hooked, and the soft moments gave me butterflies. From rivals to lovers, with the one bed trope and all the emotions—it’s the perfect romance mix.
This was my first F1 romance and I loved how easy it was to follow. The racing scenes were thrilling, the pace was fast, and the vibes were top notch.
(P.S - the Spanish nicknames? Too cute—I need one for myself!)
If you love fake dating, forced proximity, and emotional ups and downs—this book is a must-read.I finished it in one go and still wanted more 🤌🏻♥️
This was a fun and spicy sports romance, that bounces from hookup to enemies, to fake dating to love. There is plenty of relationship drama, misunderstandings and poor communication, and lots of pining and denial on both sides. It's a mix of slow burn for the emotions, and insta lust for the spice, and I liked the blend of cultures and sweet nicknames, and the way they helped each other grow. It has the awkward meet cutes, touches of drama and scandals you'd expect from F1 and celebrity lives, and lots of snarky banter and chemistry.
Red Queen is a Formula 1 romance that’s clearly meant to be fast, emotional, and feel-good — and while it succeeds in being easy to read, it didn’t fully work for me on an emotional level.
Rosa, an event manager tied to the F1 world through her uncle, and Mateo, a star racer with a messy public image, have instant chemistry. Their attraction is immediate, and the story doesn’t pretend otherwise — this is very much an insta-love setup. At first, Mateo comes across as charming and unexpectedly respectful, which made me hopeful about where his character arc would go.
Unfortunately, once misunderstandings enter the picture, the story relies heavily on assumptions instead of communication. Mateo jumps to conclusions about Rosa’s connections without ever really questioning her, and that choice snowballs into public embarrassment and emotional distance. What frustrated me most wasn’t just the miscommunication — it was how often the opportunity to clear things up was skipped entirely. Even later in the story, certain topics are avoided rather than openly addressed.
There is growth on Mateo’s side. Over time, he becomes more emotionally aware and learns to express himself better, and that development was one of the strongest elements of the book. His mother also plays an important role in grounding him and calling out his behaviour, which added some needed perspective.
However, this growth felt uneven when compared to Rosa’s arc. While hints are dropped about her struggles — including a hospital stay that’s briefly mentioned — those threads are never fully explored. We’re given enough information to feel concerned, but not enough to feel closure. I found myself wishing the story had leaned into that more, allowing the couple to support each other through something truly transformative.
The frequent time jumps also made it harder for me to stay emotionally invested. Confessions, relationship shifts, and even the proposal happen quickly, giving the romance a rushed quality. Important aspects like past relationships, family dynamics, and personal trauma remain mostly in the background, which kept the connection between Rosa and Mateo feeling surface-level for me.
Overall, Red Queen is a light, straightforward romance with some sweet moments and a clear feel-good intention. While I appreciated parts of Mateo’s character development, the lack of deeper communication and emotional exploration made it difficult for me to fully connect with the story.
When I first saw the tropes put out for this book, I just knew I had to request the arc. So, thank you to Bridget Taylor and her team for sending the ebook arc. Now, on to the review.
Red Queen is the first book in the Pit Stop series, set in a Formula 1 world. This is a dual POV story which follows the MMC, Mateo Acosta and FMC, Rosalia Dawson. Mateo is a Formula 1 racer, pinning for a championship win. Rosa is an ambitious event planner. Her uncle is also the owner/ manager of one of the rival Formula 1 teams. Mateo is a playboy and has his dates sign an NDA until one night he doesn't. After their first interaction, Mateo accuses Rosa of betrayal for hiding her relationship to the rival team which leads to them agreeing to fake date as a solution to avoid his PR disaster. And in return she would be introduced to a new world of networking for potential clients.
In my opinion, the book fell short on the major plot points, which felt rushed with little to no buildup. The "scandal" was wrapped up into a couple of lines at the end of the book. Which was Mateo reasoning for pushing Rosa away and being so nasty to her. In return, the championship win lacked the emotional payoff. I really could have cared less if he won or lost. Now for Rosa's story line. I understand mistakes happen but I just really felt like her career was suppose to be her driving force but to me, it fell flat. I wish we would have gotten a more motivated, strong, drive for her career with more engagement with the high net-worth clients.
As for the romance plot of the story, it was really difficult to be invested in. The fast pace, initial attraction had no build up, which okay fine I can get past. But I feel like the animosity- to the emotional shift toward love felt unconvincing. Nothing was really addressed and it felt like a band-aid with "I'm sorry" stuck on the main issue. I think this disconnect was one of the main reasons I didn't care about the characters in the end.
Overall, I feel the main plot points in the story were rushed and just overall underdeveloped. I wouldn't have minded a longer book with a little more development to really get to know the characters and explore the more high-stakes, set up of the book.
This is the first F1 themed book that I'm reading, and I can say I'm quite impressed!
First let's appreciate the cover, I love the colors 😍 and the illustration!
The set up of the book was beautifully laid. The first and second encounters of Rosa and Mateo were hilarious. The banter and the spice between the two is just amazing. I love how they navigate their relationship from something, to nothing, and then something more! The epilogue is one of the sweetest ones I have ever read.
I feel like some of the major plots were missing, probably to keep the length of the book decent - 1. I really have questions about the miscommunication that happened between Mateo and Rosa. Why didn't it click to him that Rosa and Nathan are friends for a reason and question her before the whole fiasco 😭 Even later, I wanted them to clear out things explicitly, instead of pushing the topic under the rug. 2. Also, it's advisable to have a translation app handy, because of the frequent use of Spanish words/sentences. 3. We know why Mateo was admitted into the hospital, but we have no clue why Rosa was admitted. The only hint given was the extremely painful period pain, but as she already said she feared it might be something more serious. A final diagnosis wasn't given, leaving me hanging with my thoughts. I was expecting a life altering surgery through which the couple would move forward and uplift each other. 4. Moreover, I wanted to see how supportive they are as a couple, especially when Mateo gets to visit the young cancer patient.
There's an impressive character development in Mateo - he learns to communicate his feelings and thoughts well. I really wished to see Rosa's career growth, that was promised.
Fun fact - all the time when Mateo was talking on the radio, I was mimicking the exact same tone which the actual F1 drivers use.
This was a fast paced book, which I was able to finish in less than 2 days. For a refreshing roller coaster ride, I would surely recommend this book. I'm excited to read the next book in the series, mainly about Nathan because he's a directioner like me 😁😁
Thank you Literary Loft PR and Bridget Taylor for the e-ARC.
💗 𝐀𝐑𝐂 𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐃 💗 🩰 Title: Red Queen ✨ Rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 📆 Read: 31 July 2025
🎧 Currently obsessed with: Cruel Summer by Taylor Swift (because the drama?? The yearning?? Perfect match.)
Okay, so imagine this: I casually open this book thinking I’ll just read a few pages... and suddenly I’m 100 pages deep, internally screaming, fake dating a race car driver in my head, and emotionally unstable. I didn’t just fall into this story, I was launched onto the F1 track with zero warning.
Rosalia Dawson is the most relatable overachiever ever. She’s sharp, focused, living for her dreams and then chaos (aka Mateo Acosta) crashes into her life. LITERALLY. And from that moment on, it’s game over for my heart.
They hate each other, and oh boy, do they fight dirty. Petty arguments, razor-sharp comebacks, and enough tension to melt steel. But when scandal strikes, guess who has to play pretend for the cameras? Yep. Fake dating. My favorite flavour of disaster.
The pace?? Relentless. The chemistry?? Unhinged. The scenes?? Open door and absolutely feral. Mateo had me clutching my Kindle like it was holy. I was giggling one second, blushing the next, and then sobbing without warning. Whiplash. Emotional whiplash.
And Rosa? She’s a total powerhouse. She’s got this spark that makes you want to boss up your life and romanticize spreadsheets. I adored her.
Mateo was the definition of infuriating charm. He’s reckless, smug, way too hot for his own good and then he goes and says something sweet and I MELT. Like sir, be serious for one second, I’m trying to stay mad at you.
By the time I hit the epilogue, I had no idea I was even there. It snuck up on me and hit me like a gut punch. I sat in silence after I finished, processing everything while emotionally curled up like a pretzel.
This book?? Bold, hilarious, messy in the best way, and absolutely unforgettable. If you're craving a spicy, enemies-to-lovers rollercoaster with top-tier banter and fake dating done RIGHT, Red Queen is your sign to dive in. 🏁❤️🔥
Red Queen by Bridget Taylor is the first book in the Pitstop series and I'm all in for the upcoming books in the series. At first, I wasn’t sure if this book was going to pull me in since it felt a bit slow in the starting, maybe because I take a little time to get into a story. But once I got past the initial chapters, I couldn’t stop reading. The pace picked up, the tension kicked in, and the chemistry between the characters absolutely exploded. Mateo Acosta is one of those fictional men you just can’t help obsessing over. Cocky, complicated, emotionally unavailable until he meets that one woman. He gave me a bit of Lando Norris vibes as he was charming, cheeky, a bit reckless but with a soft side that sneaks up on you. If you're a Formula 1 fan, especially a Lando fan, you’ll definitely see the resemblance. Mateo’s journey from arrogant playboy to devoted one-woman man was a lovely change. Then there’s Rosalia Dawson— the kind of FMC I adore. She’s fierce, ambitious, and unapologetically stubborn. I loved how she stood her ground, challenged Mateo, and refused to let her career or heart be dictated by anyone else’s rules. The evolution of their relationship from attraction to enemies to fake dating to something deeper was very well written with just the right mix of tension, humor, and smut. The banter was everything. I actually laughed out loud during some of their bickering sessions. Some lines felt so real followed by their relationship which was snarky, flirty, and emotionally charged. Bridget Taylor is an amazing writer and you can clearly see the love for the sport in her writing which kinda inspired me as an aspiring writer. If you're into Formula 1 and love the fake dating trope, Red Queen needs to be on your TBR.
My Read time 2hrs 16mins This book was just so fun!! I am typically not a romance girl because it's just not really my genre but there was just so much more to this book! I completely fell in love with the characters First Mateo! He had so much character growth from being sort of a playboy to falling for his one and only. I felt like I could really see how much he grew and his collectedness in stressful situations. I have a feeling that if there's a next book I will absolutely devour it. In the book it was almost lovers to enemies to lovers again and that was just such a good trope. I have never read an F1 racer trope but I really loved this one. It tied an intricate romance into the real world and whether it was the scandals or the fact they were from enemy teams they had a happily ever after and that makes my heart jump!. The nicknames Mater used for Rosa (the Fmc) just had my heart. Now Rosa! I feel like I really loved her personality and character. She went through a lot but she overcame that threw her friends and later on her Boyfriend. I think the love she showed for her friends and old people she knew and then met again was so inspiring in a way. I enjoyed the way her uncle and the team he worked with interacted!! and it was all just so good.
Things I didn't really like: The only thing I felt was so petty between the characters was the fight over them being on opposite sides. I feel like there was so much miscommunication there and I wish there wasn't. In the end it ended up getting fixed and worked on so This isn't a negative to the book I just slightly didn't enjoy it.
I was honored to be an arc reader for this author and I can't wait to HOPEFULLY be one for the next book!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I picked this up with really high expectations. The cover, the vibes, and the whole Formula 1 setup instantly reminded me of a Bollywood movie (Ta Ra Rum Pum, anyone?), so I was super excited going in.
But I’ll be honest, the start didn’t completely pull me in. I found myself putting it down around page 70 and taking a break. That said, I’m glad I came back to it because once the story found its rhythm, it turned into a sweet and enjoyable ride.
The fake dating plot was introduced in a way that actually made sense, and I really liked Enzo. He brought a fun and grounded energy to the story. The racing scenes were well written and added a nice adrenaline rush that fit the tone perfectly.
One thing that didn’t sit well with me, though, was how the “bridezilla” character was portrayed. It felt like she was written in an overly negative way just to prove how capable and calm Rosalia was under pressure. I would’ve liked to see some nuance there, maybe a glimpse into why the bride was acting that way or some moment that gave her a touch of humanity. It felt a bit too one-dimensional.
I wanted to see more vulnerability and personal growth from both Rosalia and Mateo, especially Mateo. While the physical tension between them was strong, I missed a deeper emotional connection that could’ve made their relationship feel more meaningful. It felt like Rosalia was the one carrying most of the emotional weight, and I wish we had seen more effort and growth from Mateo in return.
That said, this was still a cute, light romance with a fresh setting. If you enjoy fake dating, rivals to lovers, and stories with high-speed drama and banter, this one could still be worth the ride.
First of all, I want to thank the author for sending me a copy of her book before its publication. I was so eager to read it, as I've been a huge Formula 1 fan for many years, that when I read the plot I couldn't wait to start it. Unfortunately, even though I thought I would really like it, one thing that I noticed and that it bothered me a bit it was that from the beginning the story seemed a bit confusing in many parts. Very often at the end of one chapter and at the beginning of the next, it seemed like a large part of the story was missing, as if there was a huge time jump which made me lose the thread of the story. Another thing I struggled to understand was the relationship between the two protagonists. Obviously, as the plot suggests, it's a story between rivals from two opposing teams, who begin a fake relationship until they end up falling in love for real. What I didn't quite grasp, however, was this rivalry, which was revealed only in a few instances and very subtly (when Mateo discovers that Rosa is linked to a rival team). Furthermore, just when it seemed the two characters were about to reach a point of convergence in their relationship (basically near the end of the story), boom!, it felt like we were back where we started, with only a few pages left to the book. Another aspect I would have liked to see explored a little more is the Formula 1 theme. These are the reasons why I only gave it two stars and no more. Of course, I want to conclude by saying that this is only my personal opinion and that it is in no way intended to negatively impact anyone else's reading experience.
I was instantly drawn to this book because of the fake dating trope and the character art on the cover, so basically because of the gorgeous cover and how well it attracts you. It's my first F1 racing book, and I was invested in the story.
Rosalia is an event planner who is portrayed as sweet, calm under pressure, patient, mature, and focused, and Mateo is an F1 racer who is portrayed as charming, reckless, a playboy turned lover, cocky, and emotionally complicated. I loved their banter, and it made the story lively. Their spicy chemistry is sizzling hot, but I feel they lack emotional connectivity.
I really need to appreciate Rosalia for her persistence and enduring all the harsh words said by Mateo and still sticking with him. Mateo is an amazing character. I loved his confession scene; it was absolutely perfect. He is for sure a gentleman, especially in the scene where he didn't take advantage of Rosa as she was drunk, and he is also flirty with her. I liked that, but the things he said to Rosa to push her away didn't sit well with me.
The writing is amazing. I loved those racing scenes; they were well written. The fake dating part was introduced at a great time, and I really enjoyed it. Rosalia and Enzo are my favorite characters, and he is quite fun as well.
Overall, I enjoyed the book, and I'll recommend it if you are looking for a spicy, F1 race-themed romance book with a well-written fake dating trope. . . 💗Thank you so much to lovely @literaryloft.pr and @author.btaylor for providing the e-arc.
Firstly thank you to the author and literaryloft.pr for sending the ARC of this beautiful book my way!
The cover art is so so pretty and attractive! When I saw the tropes and F1 romance oh my god I couldn't stop myself but sign up for this book! 🙈 It was my first time reading an F1 racing book and I absolutely loved the book! 🙈 The writing is so smooth and I loved those racing scenes, the adrenaline oh god so good!!!
The fake dating part was so nicely introduced at a perfect time and I really enjoyed it! The whole book was so entertaining to read and I loved every part of it!
Rosalia Dawson, our FMC is on the verge of a breakthrough in the elite world of event planning — until a major client slips through her fingers. Desperate to stay in the game, she finds herself crossing paths with the one man she swore she’d never wanted to see again.
Mateo Acosta, our MMC lives life in the fast lane — on and off the Formula 1 track. But when a scandal threatens to destroy his career, damage control comes in the form of a ridiculous idea: fake dating the woman he was just accused of betrayal.
Their chemistry is explosive, their banter is brutal, and their "relationship" is the talk of the racing world. But as the lines between love and loathing blur, Rosalia and Mateo will have to decide what's real, what's not, and what it means when pretending starts to feel a lot like falling.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a spicy, f1 race themed fake dating romance book! I absolutely loved the tension and chemistry between our MCs!
Let me just say this was my first ever F1 romance read & I wasn't sure what to expect but Red Queen definitely delivered the adrenaline, chaos & chemistry I didn’t know I was craving. It was like stepping into a turbocharged enemies-to-lovers ride set in the high-speed world of Formula 1. Let's talk about Rosalia Dawson. She's elegant, sharp, emotionally guarded & crosses paths (again) with Mateo Acosta, the F1 heartthrob whose arrogance is so annoying but attractive at the same time . He’s fast, foul-mouthed & frustratingly irresistible. You’ll want to slap him & then kiss him two seconds later (no joke). The way Rosalia handles Mateo my God! That's a chef’s kiss! Their story kicks off with a scandal & an unexpected fake-dating deal that neither of them is ready for. Mateo needs damage control. Rosalia needs networking. Honestly, the beginning felt a bit slow for me & I found myself wishing for more emotional depth between Mateo & Rosalia. I would've loved to see the fake dating part of the story explored with a little more buildup and drama. Their dynamic had so much potential but it didn't always hit with the intensity I was hoping for. But the banter was entertaining. The tension was so damn good. And that victory drink scene? Whew Sir, we see you. Also in the racing scenes, even if you're newcomer to the sport, you will find them so easy to follow and thrilling. Overall, the book gave drama, charm & a smooth ride with a few unexpected bumps enough to make me curious for what’s next in the series. Can’t wait for part 2!!
This book was pure, fast-paced chaos in the best possible way. It’s an F1 race romance filled with rivalry, fake dating, and that delicious kind of hate-to-love tension that just keeps building until it’s impossible to look away. The racing backdrop makes everything feel intense, from the high-speed drama to the emotional crashes that follow.
Rosalia and Mateo are absolute fire together, stubborn, competitive, and constantly at each other’s throats. Their banter is sharp, their insults (pandeja, bruja, and I couldn’t help but laugh 😭) are almost a love language, and their chemistry? Off the charts. What starts as fake dating slowly turns into something real, with both of them realizing that all their fighting was just a different way of holding on.
But what I really enjoyed was the character growth. Beneath all the teasing and fiery moments, there’s this slow unraveling of who they are when they stop hiding behind pride and ego. Rosalia learning to trust, Mateo learning to listen that made the story so much more than just a spicy rivals-to-lovers read.
And can we talk about Rosalia’s comfort show being Friends? That small detail says so much about her she’s strong, sarcastic, and guarded, but she finds peace in something simple and familiar. It made her feel real. Overall, Red Queen is fast, messy, emotional, and addictive. It’s for readers who love high tension, fake dating, and characters who grow through the chaos they create. Definitely a good read if you’re into fiery romances with heart. ❤️🔥
My First ARC and I'm OBSESSED! I am completely buzzing! My very first ever ARC, "Red Queen" by Bridget Taylor contained a full-on romance that left my breathless. I picked this one on a whim for the sports romance, and was offered an instant favorite.
As soon as I entered the F1 worlds, I was toast. I read this book in one glorious three-hour dash, duties be damned! Rosalia is all I want to be: sweet but tough, intelligent, and a complete boss babe in event planning. And Mateo? I am seriously hooked on this stunning mess of an F1 driver. His flair for the dramatic and secret depths had me heart-pounding.
Their chemistry is straight-up dynamite – I mean pasta-cooking levels of hot! The fake-dating trope gets a new, electric twist when Rosalia and Mateo navigate scandals, scorching banter, and irrepressible feelings. I was addicted to their battles, sultry make-outs, and the adorable Spanish nicknames which just melted my heart.
While I wished the finale did not hit the brakes as soon as it did (more, please!), I'm already revved up about the next book. If you're an F1 junkie, an enemies-to-lovers enthusiast, or just in the mood for a truly immersive, emotional, and steamy read with a cinnamon roll hero and a sassy queen, I highly recommend that you grab "Red Queen." I am literally so, so grateful that I was able to read this cozy, interesting, and mind-blowing book! Vroom vroom, guys!
Thank you Bridget Taylor for the copy of Red Queen to read and review.
What to Expect ❤️ Fake Dating ❤️ One Bed ❤️ Nicknames ❤️ Happily Ever After ❤️ Event Planner FMC x Formula 1 Driver MMC ❤️ Fast Burn - they waste no time! ❤️ Open Door On the brink of a career breakthrough, Rosalia Dawson loses everything, unless she can swallow her pride and work with the man who haunts her past. Mateo Acosta lives for the adrenaline of the F1 track, but a potential career ending scandal has him desperate for a PR miracle. Their quick fix: a fake romance. Their chemistry is undeniable and their public appearances are electric, but is that enough to get them though? As the racing world watches, Rosalia and Mateo realize that while the scandal might be fake, the feelings are starting to get dangerously real. It took me a while to get into this book. I’m not a huge Formula 1 fan, so learning the jargon (which is minor) and getting myself into the mindset was a hurdle. Once I got into the book, and the drama it was easier for me to read and enjoy. The romance itself, which is what sold me (I’m a sucker for insta-connection) was lacking. The scandal overshadowed much of the book.
Overall, I think that my friends who enjoy Formula 1 would like this book - I just was not familiar enough to connect with the plot and character. However, I do plan on giving Book 2 a read!
Available now on Kindle Unlimited (and Book 2, Before Dawn releases in March of 2026!)
I got so disappointed since the very first chapter. The reason? The writing. It really wasn't for me, and I could already tell I wasn't going to enjoy it, but it felt wrong to give up on the book before I even hit the 10% mark. So, I kept reading. More like """reading""", actually. I skimmed through the book and only actively read the parts that looked interesting (mostly only read the dialogues). There were some inconsistencies throughout the book and the characters kept going back and forth over the same thing without ever actually going somewhere. There were also so many things that got left and never solved. FOR EXAMPLE! The fmc is taken to the hospital due to some very intense period cramps and she mentions (before this even happens) that she might have endometriosis and some people in her family were diagnosed with it. However, we never really find if she has it. IN FACT, we never know anything about her stay in the hospital, except that the mmc was oh so worried and rushed to the hospital as soon as he found out. Another example is the mmc's trauma surrounding his father. While he talks about it with his mother -very briefly, might I add-, he never speaks about it with the fmc.
Thank you to the author and Love Notes PR for providing the arc, but it really wasn't for me.

It’s a mix of fake dating, F1 romance, and many memorable moments. I felt like this book was similar to others I’ve read. The plot reminded me of a typical story. We often read about fake dating, but it was cute and enjoyable.
The characters initially met on their own and built their relationship based on honest observations, and then suddenly, they were thrown into this fake-dating scenario, which was okay. I think the book itself is good—actually better than I expected.
Still, I felt like a lot of parts lagged, so I skimmed through some sections because I didn’t want to read everything. I also felt like the characters kept contradicting their own actions pretty quickly, but maybe that’s just me. The style of writing threw me off a bit, as it felt more like the author was telling rather than showing.
It was like the writer was dumping all their thoughts and feelings onto the pages, and sometimes, between scenes, I could sense the writer’s own perspective and mental clashes with the characters. I don’t know how to quite describe it, but it was as if the story took a straightforward path, then suddenly there was a burst of color that confused me—was it the character's mindset or the writer's?
Aside from that, the story was good. It dragged a little at times, but overall, it was fine.
Bestie. BESTIE. You know when you pick up a book and five minutes later you're in your third life crisis because you're suddenly on the F1 track, in love, and fake dating a man who looks like sin in a race suit?? Yeah. That was me with Red Queen.
So here's the tea...Rosalia Dawson is THAT girl. Event planner extraordinaire, organized queen, probably makes spreadsheets for fun. She’s this close to her big break and guess who runs over?? Mateo “I live for chaos” Acosta. And baby, he’s not just fast on the track...he’s fast with the everything, the banter, and OH MY GOD the tension.
They LOATHE each other, not for long. Sparks. Flying. Words. Thrown. And then BAM...scandal hits and guess who ends up fake dating for damage control? YEP. THEM.
I literally didn’t blink once I started. Fast-paced doesn’t even begin to cover it. This book had me RACING through chapters like Mateo on track, okay?? And let’s not even pretend...this is open door, and girl, when I say those scenes had me screaming into my pillow??? I mean hot and bothered like I was in the pit stop.
And Rosa reads books. BOOKS, babe. She’s smart, confident, a lil chaotic, and has this fire in her that makes you wanna throw on red lipstick and demand everything you deserve. Like YES queen, take your man and your business goals.
Mateo? Whew. He’s cocky. Arrogant. Annoyingly charming. And secretly soft in the way that will RUIN you. You will absolutely want one for yourself. You’ll see. He’s a menace but like…the kind of menace who texts “get home safe” and cuddles you to sleep.
It’s spicy. It’s angsty. The banter is sharp. The tension is unbearable. Absolute chef’s kiss.Honestly, I didn’t even realize I was on the epilogue until it hit me like an emotional truck. I was not okay.
Review: As an F1 fan, this book was honestly a treat. This was the first book I've read where F1 was the central sport.
Enough of my rambling, onto the book. The banter? To die for. The romance? Amazing. The spice? I'll just leave it at that. And there’s a lot of fluff too.
Rosa
"You know the feeling when your day is going great, you look spectacular and you’re just in time for your meeting? Yeah, me neither."
An unapologetic, bold woman who stands up for herself. I liked how she gave Mateo the support he needed while still keeping her boundaries. However, I wish her career had been explored a bit more.
Mateo "Mhm, crazy for you. Because every man has needs. And you are mine, Rosa. I need you."
An F1 racer whose team colors reminded me of Ferrari and attitude of Lando. While I do love a sassy male lead, I don’t love a self-obsessed one with the communication skills of a toddler. In his defense, he does eventually communicate....but I feel like 90% of their couple drama could’ve been solved if they had just talked to each other.
Overall, it was an enjoyable, fast-paced read with a lot of banter, humor, and smut. A must-read for all F1 fans.
Mateo and Rosa were so beautiful and lovely. They might have had a bad start, but their story has become one of the cutest and most interesting ones. Watching their journey from being strangers to becoming each other’s partners—with so many feelings and ups & downs—was amazing.
Though they had a few misunderstandings and miscommunications, I’m so glad they sorted things out. I felt a little angry when Mateo was rude to her… but he realized his mistake and apologized, which made him even more lovable. Yes, he made mistakes, but he learned and accepted them.
Mateo has literally raised my standards. The guy who used to be a playboy and didn’t believe in love is now totally in love with Rosa. Him being such a gentleman with her, taking care of her when she’s unwell… I fell for him so hard. Mateo just became obsessed and addicted to her so deeply 😩💞✨️
And their fake dating era was so interesting and exciting to watch. They were in love with each other but didn’t want to show it.
The chemistry between them is so good—and hot. They always stand up for each other, trust and support each other in tough times. Their nicknames are one of my absolute favorite things. I love how Rosa calls him “Teo” and Mateo calls her “cariño” 😭💘
Such a cute read! I loved Rosa and Mateo! such a good debut book for Bridget! They are the same person/personality and I loved watching them butt heads and fight each other off when all you want to do is have them cave.
I did want to shake them at times and tell them to pull their heads out of their booties and just admit they like each other. Mateo is fully a melodramatic man (but I mean what men in his 20s is not). It was so realistic in a sense where Mateo is a little toxic and former playboy, just like any man in his 20s is, who is not wanting to settle down. While Rosa is like any other woman in their 20s... just trying to figure it out and still trying to make a break.
As an event planner I found some of the event planning stuff a little not realistic. But what person can read about their profession and not nit pick a little.
I am excited to see Bridget Taylor continue to grow and develop as an author. Her story telling is great, I just want to see her writing develop a little more. But lets be honest. I am not judging books off the writing, I like a good story teller, and I thing Bridget did just that! I am ready for more!
Red queen is the perfect book for a formula 1 fan looking for a fun and spicy take on the sport. The book follows our characters Rosalia, an event planner who also has ties to a f1 team via her uncle and Mateo a hot topic driver on a opposing team who keeps seeing himself in the limelight and not in a good way. When they first meet there is an instant connection full of heat and attraction. I really enjoyed their banter back and forth and how the stood their ground with one another. After a misunderstanding and misguided judgment they both see themselves put into a predicament that forces them to be in a fake romance with each other. Though both unhappy about their situation and as the story goes along they rekindle their original spark.
I am a huge fake dating trope girlie and really enjoyed seeing them realise their true feelings for each other. My only critique in this book is I found it quite difficult to really get into the story. Their meeting was very quick and their insta attraction I’m not a massive fan of and at some points didn’t feel believable. However overall loved the f1 details as I am a very big f1 fan and love seeing how people interpret the sport.

The book Red queen follows F1 romance with a cocky arrogant man who is annoyingly charming that you will be in dilemma either to kiss him or strangle him but you end up kissing him 😘😘
This book has what you need fake dating, rivals to lovers, forced proximity, spanish nicknames (I enjoyed it) ♥️♥️
Rosa, what a beauty and organized queenie.. Mateo, the name who is as fast as his F1. Charming, hot, bad mouth, but he can use it in different manner iykyk 🤭🤭
Being a debut book, it was good. No doubt the pace at first was a bit slow bit once it got the flow, you'll enjoy it and it will be like a silky smooth ride with bumpy scenes that will give you hell of a fun 🤭🤭
The tension, the buildup and the chemistry was good. And that victory drink scene... Ahem... Guys take notes ♥️♥️
But one thing is for sure that the characters had more potential, more vulnerability and more emotional connect could have added stars to this.
You will love the banter and enjoy the sweet cuddly romance and menacing yet the best kind of man, Mateo 🤭😘
If fake-dating your least favorite man alive suddenly turns into oops-why-does-he-smell-so-good, then yep! welcome to Rosalia and Mateo's world.
This book gave me tension, banter, and enough “he’s so annoying but why is my heart doing this??” moments to last a lifetime. Mateo — charming, cocky, dangerously kissable — will make you want to strangle him lovingly. And Rosalia? She’s a chaos queen wrapped in high-functioning to-do lists and trauma recovery. I love her sm.
Their dynamic? 🔥 Enemies. 🎭 Fake dating. 🫠 Accidentally catching real feelings. 💬 Spanish nicknames that make your heart go "thud".
And can we talk about THAT victory drink scene? I was kicking my legs, screaming into my snack pillow, and immediately rereading. Also, Teo calling Rosa "princesa"... I MELTED.
The pacing picked up fast after a slow-ish start... like a Formula 1 car revving to life — and then it didn’t stop. Just vibes, smirks, tension, and me yelling “KISS ALREADY!” every 10 pages.
If you love chaotic soft boys with secret golden retriever energy, and girls who need a hug (and maybe a tequila shot), Red Queen is your next obsession.
Okay sooo I picked this one just because it was a sports romance and part of a series (because I’m weak for a series starter), and honestly?? It did not disappoint. I was hooked after the first few chapters and binged the whole thing in like 3 hours. Who needs sleep, right?
The F1 setting had me living I'm already obsessed with this sport thanks to Lauren Asher, and this book just fueled that fire. Rosa was such a lovable character bubbly, sweet, confident, and someone who knows how to stand her ground. Plus, her job in event management? YES MA’AM.
Now Mateo... this man was so messy and chaotic but also felt super real and grounded. I love when a romance hero isn't perfect-perfect but still makes your heart do backflips. And yes, the spice was definitely there 👀
Only reason it’s not a 5? The ending felt too fast. I wanted more time with them, more closure, more everything. But still, such a great pick and I’m already waiting for the next book.
If you like F1 romance, chaotic soft boys, strong heroines, and a fast-paced story, this one’s calling your name!
