Beat of Love

Rate this book
Second chances only come once… but is the beat of love strong enough to survive what stands in their way?

Rafferty Lawson has spent a lifetime running — from pain, from guilt, from the ghost of a baby sister stolen long ago. And from the memory of her — the one woman he was never meant to want.

Years undercover among society’s worst set him on a fatal path of revenge. Now, addicted, broken, and haunted, he returns home for one final to reclaim his place in the family he abandoned.

After the ultimate betrayal, Brandy-Lyn Powers carved out a new life on the Lawson ranch as co-owner of its breeding stables. With three teenagers and a never-ending to-do list, love is a luxury she gave up long ago.

Then Rafferty crashes back into her world — and long-doused sparks roar to life.

But his past isn’t buried. And danger isn’t done with him yet.

Will a man broken by regret find the strength to face his demons, confront his enemies… and claim the love of the woman who holds his heart?

Beat of Love is the final book in the Texas Solace Series. Though it stands alone, Rafferty Lawson’s journey begins in book one—culminating in this raw, redemptive love story.

What really stood out to me in Beat of Love, were the relationships between all the characters. They felt so genuine and layered, full of warmth, tension, and some with a lot of room for growth. Whether it was the tender family bonds, the spark of friendship, or the deeper connections that developed along the way, I found myself completely invested in how these characters related to each other. Their relationships added heart and depth to the story, making it impossible to put down.
I really enjoy Nicole Ann Nielson’s writing style—it’s engaging, easy to follow, and flows so naturally that it keeps me turning the pages. It’s the kind of style that makes reading feel effortless and enjoyable.
The final book in the Texas Solas Series, can be read as a standalone, and will leave you hooked within the first chapter.

Thank you to Pen to Platform Publicity and Nicole Ann Nielsen for the opportunity to read Beat of Love as an ARC!

Beat of Love is the last book in this series but can be read as a standalone, it is however recommended to read the whole series to fully understand Rafferty’s journey and the family dynamics.

Raf’s morally grey character immediately spiked my interest, not to mention the hint at second chance mature love and lingering danger from his undercover days. How could I not read Beat of Love?

Raf is a broken man, trying to find his way after being undercover for an extended time for the DEA. He found his way back to his family in Texas to heal, to recover from his addiction and possibly find light after hanging onto the darkness. Little did he know his twin brother’s high school girlfriend, Brandy-Lyn, lives on his family farm with her three children.

The pacing is slow burn with detailed focus on Raf’s addiction recovery, his family relationships and the DEA. Brandy-Lyn has her own challenges, betrayal and hurt to overcome and heal from. These two have a romance that builds over time, they are ready to combust with passion but they don’t act impulsively. They give each other space and time to love again.

I felt the story flowed without dragging or skipping over details. I took my time reading this book, feeling the hurt and accomplishments and getting frustrated with the self-sabotage that comes with healing!

Beat of Love focused a lot on healing, resilience and building trust from the foundation up. Nothing felt rushed or romanticised, it was raw and honest. I enjoyed that the main characters were older and mature, which made them more relatable to me as a reader. The emotional depth represented in this book filled me with sadness, hope, inspiration, forgiveness and joy. Beat of Love finished me!

If you are looking for slow burn cowboy romance, with a side order of family drama and lingering undercover danger then this book is for you!

This may be book 6 in the series, but can be read as a standalone.

Gathering my thoughts after reading the story of Brandy-Lyn and Rafferty was very difficult as I was so impressed and touched by the story that I am left without adequate words to describe it.

Absolutely loved the characters, the storyline and writing style.

Rafferty’s background and how he and Brandy-Lyn’s relationship developed and how they had to deal with the consequences of both of their pasts makes for a story that makes you go through all the emotions.

I cannot recommend this one (and the rest of the series) enough.

I absolutely loved this book. This was a new to me author and I was pleasantly surprised by this book.

At first I was skeptical because I thought that I won’t enjoy it, but I found myself turning the pages faster.

Then I got emotionally invested in the book and couldn’t put it down. I really enjoyed it. It had me in tears throughout. I need to catch up with the previous books in the series to get to know some of the secondary characters here.

Rafferty and Brandy-Lyn had such good backstories before they came together that you couldn’t help but root for them. Both had painful pasts that kept their guard up. There’s pining, tears, lots of tears, a hint of suspense, family, second chances and all round love.

I gave these two 5 🦋

10 Stars and more!!

Beat of Love is the final book in Nicole Ann Nielsen’s unforgettable Texas Solace series, and what an emotional ride it is.
Raf’s broken character immediately hooked me. From the shadows of his undercover DEA past to the glimmer of hope for a second chance at love. After years of living in evil, darkness, and addiction, Raf returns home to the Texas family ranch to heal. What he doesn’t expect is to find Brandy-Lyn, his twin brother's ex-college sweetheart, living on the family farm with her three children and a joint business with his brother. Their lives cross in unexpected ways, and their story becomes one of resilience, trust, and the courage to love again. There are a few heated misunderstandings along the way, which had me giggling here and there. Let's also bring in his older brother, Aidan, who is as pleasant as a toothache.
The pacing is a slow burn, allowing you to feel every moment of Raf’s recovery journey, his complicated family dynamics, and the lingering danger from his undercover days, which put his family in harm's way. Brandy-Lyn’s story is equally layered, as she navigates betrayal, hurt, and the challenge of opening her heart once more. Together, their romance doesn’t ignite in reckless passion but instead builds with patience and maturity. They give each other space to heal, until love quietly and powerfully takes root.
What stood out to me most was how honest this story felt. It didn’t shy away from the rawness of healing, the setbacks, or the self-sabotage that often comes with trying to rebuild a life. I found myself savoring every page, feeling Raf and Brandy-Lyn’s pain, triumphs, and eventual joy. The emotional depth swept me up completely. It's powerful.
Beat of Love is more than a romance - it’s about healing, resilience, and rebuilding trust from the ground up. I especially appreciated that the main characters are more mature, which made them relatable. The story was not rushed or overly romanticized, in fact, it was beautifully raw and real.
If you’re looking for a slow-burn cowboy romance with a bit of family drama, emotional healing, secrets from the past, and a touch of lingering danger, this is the book for you. Honestly, the entire Texas Solace series deserves a standing ovation and 10 stars. Nielsen’s writing is superb, her characters unforgettable, and this Irish/Texas family will stay with you long after the final page. I’m sad to see this series end, but I’m holding out hope for spin-offs featuring some of the side characters. And if any series deserves to be adapted for the screen, it’s this one.

This is the sixth and final story in the "Texas Solace" series. You can read it as a stand alone but you would get more back ground by reading them in order, especially with the man male character. It is a good read about Rafferty and Brandy-Lyn. It is a nicely developed read that is emotional and endearing. The struggles the characters go through is challenging, especially Raf's. What a journey. Such a nicely developed read with wonderful characters.

This is the fifth book I've read written by Nicole Ann Nielson; I can’t wait to read more of her books.

This is the sixth book in the Texas Solace Series; it can be read as a stand-alone book but would be much better if read in order. The story is about Brandy & Rafferty’s second chance.

almost too much
Reading this book I wondered how much a human being can take but I liked the uplifting message that there is a chance at healing not matter how many curveballs life throws your way.
