This is Book Two of The Districts. The fight to survive in the wake of an EMP attack on the United States continues. The country crumbles and people chose to turn their backs on their fellow Americans. Sutherland is trying desperately to reach District Four before it's too late. Sandra and Nathan are trying to fortify the farm, but they get a few unexpected visitors. Nick finally realizes the true nature of people. Anthony starts to slowly lose his grip on his men and he will stop at nothing to keep control. The United States has fallen.
I thought this series had promise but after the first book I wasn't sure but I bought the second book with my fingers crossed. Sadly, book two sealed the deal for me and there won't be a third, short of it being offered for free to see if it gets better. The clincher for men is Rick. This character just can NOT get his act together for love nor money. He cannot be counted on to learn from past mistakes and each error only gets worse as time goes by. He leave emergency IMPORTANT gear laying about haphazardly for others to find and take from him and trusts on blind luck. And at the end of book two when he finally DOES kill his attacker (one he could have easily driven away from!) he takes the time to bury him?!? What a fool and downright idiot. Any "intelligent" person would have either driven off immediately or, after shooting an aggressor, left then. After all, he owes them nothing but his scorn and the bullet to his skull. So since the author cannot seem to write in the context of normal human understanding, I shall spend my time and reading efforts elsewhere.
Very good sequel to the first book. It's like 4 stories in different situations posing different solutions to the same problem. My only complaint is the General, in my opinion, doesn't respond at all in many situations the way a real General would or should. He's a little too wimpy for my taste.
