Blade
Growing up, I idolized my father, the president of the Dark Angels.
I knew that one day, that role would be mine,
A role I was born to do,
A role that was always the dream,
A role that I cherished.
I lived and breathed the leather that I wore,
And I wore with pride.
Nothing mattered to me except for the club, that leather.
Until Her.
She came out of nowhere and knocked me for six.
I went from living and breathing the club,
To living and breathing her.
And then I made a mistake, a massive mistake.
I thought she was using me,
I thought she was trying to ruin what my family built, my club.
But I was wrong, so wrong.
I messed up, and now, she wants nothing to do with me.
She refuses every time I try, but I won’t give up reclaiming what is mine,
Because she has been mine from the moment that I laid eyes on her,
And come hell or high water,
I’ll always ensure she’s right where she needs to be,
By my side, wearing my patch.
Get ready, Princess, because I’m coming for you.

Luna
Growing up in a motorcycle club wasn’t as glamorous as one would think.
Being the sister of the present,
A daughter of the former, I had to abide by certain rules,
Rules I always followed, never wanting to disappoint but I missed out.
Boys, Parties, Friends.
My sole focus had to be schoolwork and the club.
I never cared kids at school called me spoilt and a club brat,
I never cared boys didn’t pay any attention to me.
I loved my family; I loved the safety that I had until I didn’t.
I spent years being hurt, and not one club member stepped in,
Not one club member saw the pain I was in daily.
I became jaded, bitter about the club,
I wanted out any way I could, working as much as possible.
I wanted out of this life,
And I had no plans to be part of a club again.
Until him.
He didn’t know who I was,
He didn’t know my past, my horrors.
He looked at me like I was his air to breathe,
And finally, I thought I could be happy.
Until he threw me away like I was nothing.
He thought I betrayed him, and he broke me,
Just like everyone else in my life.
I packed up, and I ran with the little savings I had.
I just didn’t count on him running after me,
I didn’t count on him fighting for me, for us.
He wants a second chance, but why?
He made his feelings perfectly clear,
I’m a traitor, and traitors need to learn their lesson, and well, I learned mine.
And I learned that I’m better off on my own.

This can be read as a standalone. It is book 1 of 5 of the Dark Angel’s MC series, with a HEA. Due to mature content and themes, this book is recommended for readers aged 18+; this novel may contain triggers.

powerful topic awful writing

I really wanted to like this book. The premise sounded right up my alley - motorcycle club romance with some real emotional depth. Unfortunately, I spent more time being frustrated by basic writing issues than getting lost in the story.

The Editing is Rough
Look, I get that indie publishing can be tough, but this needed another pass (or three) from an editor. I lost count of issues like when the character names got mixed up - calling the main guy “Axe” when his name is “Blade” isn’t a small oops, it’s distracting. Add in missing commas, run-on sentences, and dialogue that sounds like no human has ever spoken, and you’ve got a recipe for constantly being pulled out of the story.

Trauma Isn’t a Plot Device
Here’s what really bothered me: the book throws trauma at you like it’s confetti. Every time the story started to drag, boom - another horrible thing happens to Luna. It felt cheap, honestly. Like the author couldn’t figure out how to create real tension or conflict, so she just kept piling on the suffering. That’s not good storytelling, that’s emotional manipulation.

LUNA ISN’T ACTUALLY A CHARACTER!
This is probably my biggest issue with the book. Luna isn’t a person - she’s a collection of terrible things that happened to her. I finished this book and realized I know literally nothing about who she is as a human being. What does she like to do for fun? What makes her laugh? Does she have hobbies, favorite foods, pet peeves?
Her entire identity revolves around three things: being sexually assaulted, suffering trauma, and then discovering she can be sexual with Blade. That’s it. That’s her whole personality. She doesn’t have friends, interests, quirks, or really anything that would make me believe she’s a real person rather than a trauma delivery system with a pretty face.
It’s honestly insulting to survivors to reduce someone to nothing but their worst experiences. Real people are complex - they have favorite movies and weird habits and strong opinions about pizza toppings, even after surviving horrible things. Luna doesn’t.

The Bottom Line
This reads like someone’s first draft that got published without revision. I can tell the author cares about these characters and this world, but caring isn’t enough. The technical problems and lazy plotting made it impossible for me to connect with what could have been a powerful story. I’ve read a lot of her works. . . Okay all of them. This one disappointed me and was really hard to even get through.

Maybe book two will be better? The author has the passion - she just needs to slow down and focus on craft.

Definitely better than the last few new releases this author has come out with. Most definitely NOT for the safety gang. I was most definitely cringing in beginning chapter. Yuck. Seriously club girls 🤮. This story was gritty. Something I like in my MC books. But the continued rape of the h Luna was a bit much. So be aware. She's raped by her brother's bf from 13 to 20 and no one helps her because they think she's lying. Enter Leo aka Blade from another MC. At first they're just using each other for sex, but they both catch feelings and don't tell each other. Shit happens because CM's heroes always f*** up in the stupidest ways. He later chases after her, after she disappears...

SAFETY: cheating, but not between MMCs. Rape, torture, violence, and gore. I say gore because it's pretty explicit. Also the rape scenes are explicit as well so be prepared. She does get her revenge on her abuser in the end.

I’m REALLY behind on reviews, so this will be quick. I read this a couple of weeks ago and couldn’t even remember enough of it to write this without reading over all my highlights. I like this author when I want easy OTT drama. Her storylines are typically super outrageous, but she’s usually safer/less messy than Faiman or Nicola Jane, so I’m not as frustrated when it’s glossed over.

With all that said I didn’t love this… mostly because I found it boring. It could’ve been my mood, I can get into a funk, but it just didn’t work for me. She went dark with this one , but it wasn’t handled super impactful. Not blasé per se, it’s just not addressed as thoroughly as it should’ve been. IMHO. Sort of like shock filler (as opposed to smut filler), so it sort of fell flat. It was terrible to read, but that’s as far as it went.

There also isn’t much else going on with drama. There’re no evil club bunnies causing problems. The evil OM jumps out periodically does his horrible thing then disappears. Her family are awful but rarely around. Blade is a good boy other than ASSumptions. The only drama came from Blade’s mom acting bitchy, but then she gets a personality transplant mid-book. I smell a Carol 2.0 on the horizon… I’m calling it.

(In her A Devil’s MC series she had a formula of the H’s moms acting terrible then “reforming” them midbook. The worst was Carol, Tech’s mom. She was a total bitch to his h and abused another H. Later it was blamed on her trauma from being accused of lying about a pregnancy to trap a brother when she had a miscarriage. That would explain her being an asshole to the club, but not STARVING A CHILD or slapping, yelling and being nasty to the pathetic little h.)

Bottom Line- I say it all the time, if my characters aren’t showing me feelings it’s hard for me to feel them. And I found Blade and Luna flat, and in a low suds, low action plot, and I was bored a lot.

I hated this for a lot of reasons but the way her abortion was talked about was disgusting. There’s a way to write a character feeling conflicted about having an abortion especially when it could have been her abuser’s but instead what we got was a very anti-abortion, borderline pro-life type dialogue. The doctors were even discouraging to her at one point. It’s treated like she murdered a baby. When that’s not what she did but whatever.

There’s a lot of casual misogyny in this book too. The amount of times a woman was called a whore alone.. and the way women are talked about in relation to sex and how they dress. So many times was a woman’s appearance commented on for being too revealing. There was even a “too much” makeup comment.

There is minimal to no grovelling from the MMC even when he knew he fucked up. Until the very end he keeps going I know I made a mistake but this.. but that. Excusing his behaviour. Even had the FMC going I know you were in this mentality and that’s why you were so horrible to me so it’s ok! ..also she’s not really a character. She’s just an another woman whose personality is her trauma and everything bad that has happened to her is the extent of her character development.

The grammar and structure made this a difficult read too. So much cringy dialogue.

I read this on a whim as it was randomly recommended to me. I wish I didn’t.

I knew going into this that whether I liked this book was going to be iffy, based on my prior experience with this author. But what I ended up hating about it wasn't what I expected. I'm going to assume this was a newer book than Steal because the writing was much better than it was in that book. Unfortunately, this author has too large of a backlog for me to forgive all the typos and wrong words. At the point she is at, an editor needs to be hired. (And I don't know when this was published, maybe her newer work is better edited than this.) Every author makes mistakes and even when they proofread, they can still miss stuff because their brain knows what they meant. Spellcheck will catch words that are misspelled, but usually not mistakes like:

I scowl at his words. “Fucking perspective fucker,” I mutter, and he snorts.

(Without context this might seem okay, but in context, the sentence should have read "perceptive" which, again, a good copy editor could have caught.) There were several other circumstances, like Luna calling Blade by her brother's road name, "Axe" and nobody batting an eye.

This book features the repeated on-page rape of Luna by her brother's best friend, Brock (no road name apparently, despite the fact that he's the VP of her brother's MC), a violent OM who is definitely going to kill her at some point if it keeps going. The one time she tried to tell anyone, at 13, her mother and brother refused to believe her with absolutely no investigation, no questions, no wondering why a kid would lie like that. In some ways that was harder on me than the on-page rape . After 7 years of hidden abuse (and considering the ways this guy absolutely bashes her head into walls and grinds her face into things, someone should have caught the marks) she is ready to end it all for herself, but she wants to take him with her.

The rape was difficult. I missed the TW page because it was before the Table of Contents and Kindles start after. I should have checked. But what really got me was 1) the similarities to Traitor (more on that under the spoiler tag) and 2) the trope of the Magical Peen.

Suddenly, a woman who has spent nearly half her life being brutally assaulted, raped, emotionally and mentally terrorized, and constantly physically abused, with the added problem that the people who were supposed to love her refused to believe her and actively brought the monster into her home, meets Blade, the president of a neighboring MC who her brother is having problems with (only Blade doesn't know who her brother is because thanks to his ability to put his friend over her, she doesn't have much to do with him), and can magically have sex without feeling dirty.

I don't want to tell anyone how to get over sexual and emotional trauma, but the Magical Peen is such a lazy trope in romance novels featuring rape of the FMC. Suddenly, Luna can not only enjoy sex, but actively orgasm and fall in love. Only that shithead, Brock, is still abusing her, and now he knows she's allowed Blade to touch her. That's right, she's actively still being raped and beat up while she's having sex with Blade. That is tragic and horrifying and Luna compartmentalizes. Her brain is so glitched from years of trauma that she just assumes she can't tell Blade either, even though she knows she's falling in love with him. But she also figures that there's no way she could mean something to him, so once this is over she still intends to commit suicide-by-abuser.

All that happens pretty early on in the book and is glossed over by the blurb in the back so I'm not going to consider it spoilery. Plus, I wish I'd paid more attention and known what I was getting into beforehand so I could brace better. But from here on out, I'm going to spoiler tag this.

Despite all of my issues, this ended up being hard to put down, especially because mentally, I could totally get Luna and her brokenness. I just wish the book had focused more on getting herself better for her, and not for Blade and his Magical Peen. Although I'm sure helped a lot too.

I don’t normally write spoilery reviews but I feel like I have to for this book. A warning if you must.
This book had so much potential. The premise was there, and could’ve been amazing. But the execution of the story was not it. And it wasn’t even the multiple grammatical errors. I usually don’t mind those
First I feel like if you’re going to have a book where the FMC is being raped since she was 13, don’t have her get turned on by a man who literally breaks into her place of employment and pretty much mocks her. Not to mention call her weak.
Secondly the FMC has this grand plan of escaping and when that doesn’t work out she makes a plan to kill her abuser and then herself. Like this girl legitimately wants to die. It was absolutely crazy that she meets blade two times and automatically is like “I want to live” like what a way to make an FMC seem strong.
And Blade is such a basic MC President MMC, like there’s literally nothing to him but I guess his looks and dirty mouth. Like he was so bland.

So good

Please read the Trigger Warnings!

I'm not quite sure where to start I just know that she went through so much and how she is surviving everyday is amazing. With the help of Leo even though he screwed up they got back on track. I just hoped the Epilogue had her getting pregnant.

Can't wait to read more Drama within this club.

Hated the repetitive rape scenes and the anti abortion rhetoric. It feels very 1980s, with very little research done into the heavy topics explored throughout the story.

Fast-paced, OTT drama-llama, MC-lite/MC story with über dark elements, that requires A LOT of suspension of disbelief to finish.
A club president, Blade, the MMC, encounters a fetching beauty as he scouts out an enemy’s property to torch. They agree to a no-strings dalliance that irks interested others on both sides of the equation. The MMC’s side insists she’s a Patch Chaser, while on the FMC’s side, her obsessed rapist of seven years ramps up the punishment he doles out for daring to catch someone’s attention. Our FMC is closely connected to the rival MC and when the “secret” is revealed, crushing betrayal ensues!

Now. How these two geniuses became MC presidents with only four working neurons between the two of them is a serious mystery to me. The “secrets” that unfold strain credulity. How on earth did the two clubs not vet all known associates of their rival-in-close-geographical-proximity? The MC’s tech guru needs a continuing ed course, maybe.

Anyhoo, warts and all, this one kept me reading until the end with a predictable amount of eye-rolling. I started the second and pretty quickly DNFed.

⭐️: 1.5

Summary: This is a motorcycle club romance. Spoilers/trigger warnings (if any) and final thoughts can be found below.

The prologue introduces us to Blade, the MMC, who has just been inducted as the President of a motorcycle club. We also meet Luna, the FMC. She is she sister of the President of another club, who has had a history with the MMCs club but they have agreed in recent years to keep the peace. Her introduction to the story is full of trigger warnings and incredibly sad.

Fast forward a few years. Blade is running his club and the FMC is desperately trying to escape the hell she is living through. That’s when the MMC enters her life. By all accounts no one knows she’s affiliated with her brothers club because she has always been so isolated. So the MMC meets her not knowing who she really is.

What starts as just a hook up turns to more. The FMC has really fallen for Blade. She continues to be tormented by her brother‘s best friend, until the truth is revealed to Blade, who she really is and he feels betrayed. He threatens her, and at that point, she knows that she has no one and so she pulls a runner. Once she is alone, she gives more thought to how desolate her situation is and makes a choice on where her life should go.

Some months pass and the MMC continues his search of the FMC and the truth. He finds her and resolves to help her heal and get revenge on the man who has hurt her.

Once she’s free from the fear of being hurt the FMC works toward healing and forgiveness and the main characters are on the path toward an HEA at the end.

⚠️SPOILERS/DETAILED TRIGGERS⚠️

*Childhood SA; Non-con: On page and descriptive.
*Recollection of attempted suicide as well as active attempt in story.
*Descriptive scenes of violence and murder.
🌶️: 2/5: This is only related to spicy content between the main characters.

Final thoughts: First off, the trigger warnings above are very accurate. So don’t ignore them.

Okay, let’s start with the positive. It was definitely a gritty MC romance and I haven’t read one in a while so that was good. I’ve read a lot by this author and find that it’s hit or miss on how I react to her books. She’s very repetitive and sometimes that bothers me and other times I seem to be okay with it. I was somewhere in the middle with this one but ultimately, this really is just how this author writes. There’s going to be grammar errors and it’s going to repeat. It is what it is.

This story was a tough one because the FMC has been brutalized and a lot of it is on page and tough to read. And just when you think she’s found safety and someone to love her, that gets taken away, albeit momentarily. I wanted to connect to her but I had no idea who she was because the entire premise surrounding her was just trauma or sexually based.

There is a lot that I can overlook in books, but the one thing that I absolutely cannot overlook is when an author messes up their timeline or confuses characters. If you as the author cannot keep your character straight in a scene, how in the hell do you expect your readers to do that. When that happened in this book, I think that was the point that I completely checked out and was done. Yes I finished it only because I wanted to see some type of comeuppance to the man that hurt the FMC all of these years, but I rushed through reading all of that to get to that point because I was definitely done with the book. This is not one that I would recommend unless you can be OK with the things that I’ve talked about here.

Good Story

Could be very triggering for some, which made it a tough read. Some editorial issues, spelling mistakes, sentences that didn’t make sense. The ending was way too long.

I always devour C.L. McGinlay's books... They are my guilty pleasure.. Love the romance, OW drama, the suspense.. all of it.
I liked Blade. I couldn't connect with Luna. Her character was broken, but then times were gusty. It didn't work for me. I felt bad for everything she went through and it was hard to read. She went through a lot. My heart broke for her. Trust me when I say please read the trigger warnings.
I like the way Luna and Blade's romance developed. I mean, who doesn't love reading about an MC President who swears he will never love and ends up falling big time?
Love the backstories in Blade, that is happening with the other characters, sets you up to want the next book.

First of all, I’ve read a lot of books from this author - some I like, some I like more than others, some I really think is kinda bad, and then there’s this one.
This might be the authors best work yet. Sure there was some grammar mistakes, some spelling issues.. I can over look them though.

I think this book was good and I liked the story. It deals with heavy subjects and its really throughout the book. The main characters was a trip, I liked how the MMC really brought the FMC out of her shell without even knowing what she was living through or how he actually gave her breathing room. They had chemistry from the start and their journey to happiness was a bit messy but enjoyable.

I loved the side characters and hope everyone gets a book LOL. And I hope the FMCs mother disappear. As the FMC says, some people shouldn’t have kids.

A character I hated from the start and loved by the end was the mother of the MMC. I feel she really needs to get recognition for everything her man put her through. It’s so common that the women in MC books get put through so much and rarely get an apology. She deserves it just as the FMC in this book deserves.

❤️‍🩹⚠️Please mind the triggers with this one, it’s was a bit hard to read for me that really has no triggers so if you do have them - might not be the book for you. Your mental health is important ❤️‍🩹⚠️

5 🌟 but beware of triggers

This book was hard to read. I had to take breaks from it because it was that hard. Not because it wasn't a good book, but because Luna went through so much. Blade was pretty good. He messed up a little, but he made up for it. The only thing that would have made this better would have been if Luna had ended up pregnant. She deserved it. Can't wait for the next installment of this series.

The only detractors were the grammar and editing, but if you've read this authors books, you know it's inevitable to have these errors. I choose to overlook them because I enjoy her stories too much to not continue reading her books.

Blade and Luna

What a great start to a new series, it had so much emotional impact and the main characters were great. Blade as the president and Luna trying to live day by day. Luna is the sister of enemy club president. But she has been hurt but no one believes her , she finally escapes meets Blade they have an agreement. But what happens when things change, feelings change, secrets are revealed, the enemy targets Blades club and keeps hurting Luna ? Will Blade believe everyone else? Will Luna finally lose the battle to fight? You have to read this amazing book. Until the next one .

Summary:
FMC is the club princess who is being abused by the VP. Noone believes her, including her brother the President of the club. She has a plan to leave. The MMC is President of a rival club. He meets the FMC not knowing who she is and they begin a friend with benefits relationship. Everything is ok until the MMC discovers who the FMC really is. Then secrets come out and need to be dealt with.

Review:
It took me a minute to understand the FMC. She has been raped daily from the age of 13 yet, she goes into a friend with benefit relationship with a virtual stranger. She states that this relationship helps her to heal and take back her sexuality. I don't know but to me it felt off. But then I have never been put in that situation.

I am glad that we see the MMC fall in love and realize his mistake. His begging her not to leave him--loved it. Her going to therapy to deal with all that has happened to her--loved it. Her brother finally realizing he was wrong and could have saved her---loved it. The way the MMC mom stood up for her---loved it. Honestly, I would love to have a book about the MMC parents--their past and them finding their way to healing, etc.

I find with this author you either love her books or hate them. This one gave me mixed feelings in the beginning but midway through I started to genuinely love it.

Loved this book! Yes it needs some editing and it was a bit messy, but I love this author and know that it gets better. The story was incredible and the rest of the books get better with writing.

I would love a bigger gap between paragraphs where the scene and time has changed! Super confusing.

Now this story… Blade was a giant douche and needed to get his head out of his a$$ when it comes to women. The whole club does actually. The stuff with his mum was confusing, but it gets clearer as the series continues.

I don’t understand how they never saw the FMC or what was happening to her given that they had her brother’s club and they specifically had Brody (? I’m writing this review a few days after I read it) under surveillance. Seems like someone would have seen her being 🍇 during the surveillance.

I love that she disappeared for months before they found her. I love how real and gritty this book was. So many trigger warnings and it was tough to read in parts, but it kept it real. I’m glad that she tried to end herself, because who wouldn’t in those circumstances! Again, it kept it real for me. A lot of book shy away from that, but I feel like it most circumstances like this it would be what happens. Honestly, if it was me, I doubt I’d have lasted as long as she did.

It did annoy me that she never told Blade what was happening. Once they’d been together a few months, I feel like she should have told him. Even if she 100% expected him to dump her afterwards, she could at least ask for his help to escape and leave forever. She had a reasonable expectation at that point to know that as a man, he wouldn’t stand by and let her continue being 🍇. Even if he felt betrayed by her connection to the other MC and wanted nothing to do with her because she was “dirty” or whatever, it was reasonable for her to believe he would at least help her escape. Of course I realize that would have made it too easy and ended the story too quickly 🤣 I’m just getting myself all worked up - another sign that this book was amazing!

the heroine is either 20 or almost 22 years old!
spoiler
In all the other books by this author, the heroines ran away and hid because of smaller problems! But this heroine did nothing to save herself. She was abused for years and kept silent! Yes, the heroine said it once, and no one believed her! I understand that it hurts when the closest ones don’t believe you, but in her situation, she should have been more persistent!!! She had so many chances to prove that she was not lying! Since her abuser came almost every night, she could have asked her brother to come to her room and wait for him! She could have recorded video and audio evidence, she could have shown everyone her burns and scars earlier! He did this to her until she bled to death, she could have gone to the hospital!!!! But as soon as the hero mistreated her, she immediately ran away and hid, so that she could not be found for months!!!! And it's very strange that her brother didn't believe her for so many years, defended his friend, but as soon as he saw her scars, he immediately believed her!!! Another very annoying situation! The hero accused the heroine of betrayal and espionage in front of the entire club! His mother hit her. But he immediately began to look for her, his brothers helped him. And this is not because they realized that the heroine was not guilty. They were looking for her because THEIR PRESIDENT LOVES HER!!!! The hero said regardless of the fact that she is a traitor, he will find her and make her his old lady!!! Seriously? I don't think that's how they treat traitors!!!! And everyone in the club: "Yes, make the traitor an old lady!!! We are all for it!!!" This is not a biker club that is engaged in illegal business! This is a kindergarten!!!!

Wowowow, this was so good, it got me out of a week long reading slump

I can't remember if the blurb or a foreword mentioned content warnings, but this book does have multiple instances of SA on page and is a main plot point. It's not from the main male lead, but just thought I'd preface my review with that since I mention it.

The plot was relatively dark, but so good. It draws you in and keeps your attention, pulling at so many different emotions. And can I just say, the comeuppance her SA attacker gets is chef's kiss, honestly. The way we get to see Luna grow, and how the love between her and Blade grows, was do well done. The dual POV style allowed you to see so much regarding their feelings, especially when both characters are wondering if the other likes them. I wish more happened to her mother, but honestly, she deserves an ending like she got.

The only thing I would potentially deduct a half star for would be some typos. There was a point where Luna used her brother's name when referring to Blade, but mostly it was just some homophones or wrong words used but they were similar enough that you still knew what was going on. Like using assess when meaning access or something (I can't remember an actual example). But honestly I loved the story so much that I still hope you give this book a chance. It's my first book by this author, but after I post this, I'm immediately going for another.

I'm glad you decided to start writing, Charlotte McGinlay - I can't wait to delve into more of your stories. 🖤

Blade (Dark Angels MC series book 1) by Charlotte McGinlay

This book has good characters and storyline, but the triggers are really bad. Some chapters are basically flashbacks of sexual assault. I’m not exaggerating. Her books lately have become more and more graphic and lengthy when describing any assault. I really love her MC books, but there have been a couple lately, including this one that trigged me so badly I threw up. If you’ve suffered any sexual abuse as a child or adult, I honestly wouldn’t advise reading her books that state any possible trigger warnings. There are a lot of books that I can still read with trigger warnings. But these books should be more specific about the triggers and maybe even state what chapters to skip if it causes triggers from trauma. I don’t think you could skip chapters in this book though, because you would wind up only reading maybe half of the book.
I really do like this writer, and her books have a lot of potential, but she really needs a better editor or ACR team to go over her work before releasing it. There are often editing problems in her books and improper division within chapters if there is a time jump. It’s really holding her books back from being as amazing as they could be.

too violent

This was a difficult novel to read for multiple reasons. One is the violence. There’s sexual violence on the FMC and violence inflicted as revenge. There was also torture and general toxic male violence. There is graphic description of each of those violent scenes so people who can’t handle that should skip those parts or skip this book altogether.

The writing is a bit repetitive in the sense that it felt like a copy-paste happened of how a scene was described as it was happening and it being narrated to another character. It happened enough times to be noticed and it feels like a lazy narrative style.

Typos and punctuation errors galore. Okay not THAT money, but definitely there were enough to be borderline dealbreakers.

Lastly. Characterization. I cannot and refuse to believe that someone who claims to put family first actually put his blood family last. And nobody (not even the author) called him out for also being a self-centered jerk. When he tried to make amends with the FMC, he said that he “needed” the FMC to give him an inch of forgiveness. Mister, you do NOT force a severely traumatized person into forgiving you when you yourself was part of that trauma.

Same goes for the MMC. Where is the grovel?!?!?!

So yes. 3 stars.

First thing, there is a lot of sa and abuse in this book.
Just a warning for those that need it

So I have had a lot of issues with this authors writing in the past. I tend to love her storylines and the plot of her books, but the writing itself frustrates me to no end. Her earlier works were edited or unedited so badly I could barely get through them. It was horrible. I think she has recently found an editor and her books are hands down way better than they are readable now. There are still a few issues but compared to before, I really can’t complain too much. I’ve also found that a lot of the mc stories tend to be very similar in plot with minor changes and name changes. I feel like I wouldn’t read them back to back, but space them out.
Her books tend to have great betrayals and angst and all the drama you can want. And I DO want that. I live for the drama.
I love a good cheating MMC and plot.

This book was great. It wasn’t a cheating book, but it did have betrayal of the fmc. The fmc was let down by everyone and I really liked the way it played out here. The MMC wasn’t a cheating whore, but he did fail her.
This was by far my favorite books by this author.

Several editing errors and some continuity issues (text says h is 20 years old, but then h's dialogue saying she is 22).

MC = it's there but I skimmed most of it

SA/R = since the age of 13, h has been SA/R by the club VP where her brother is the Prez. h made outcry to her mother and her brother, but the h was called a liar. h shut down and spiraled. h tried to leave the mortal coil several times, including once on page. Comeuppance for the abuser? h was able to confront the abuser and dismember his member then forced him to choke on it until he expired. Best part of the book.

Was there any grovel? Not that I really read. A few words said but nothing substantive. so this is not a grovel book at all.

OW drama? Not really, other than the h's and H's mothers acting like children and not using their words.

This book felt a bit disjointed and like more of an outline that was roughly fleshed out but still missing parts. My least favorite book by this author thus far.

Blade and Luna

This is a story about how tragedy and loss can turn to a forever love. Luna is trying to work, go to college full-time, and above all struggle with being raped every single day for the past seven years of her life. Tragedy and pain has been the pain of her existence, and every day that she struggles is every day that she loses her battle with life. So when the president of the rival MC shows up to her workplace everything for her changes that day. Blades only love is and will always be the club and his brothers from the MC but the moment that his eyes meet Luna his whole world turns upside down and he finds out that maybe loving someone isn’t as bad as he assumed. This couple is going to have to battle so much pain and tragedy because feelings will be hurt in life‘s will be changed. Absolutely fell in love with this traumatic book, could not put the book down. Can’t wait to read the next book in this series.

blade & Luna: triggers- sexual assault, domestic abuse, assault, torture, suicide, abortion, mental health. there's a few consistency issues but all in all, while definitely hard to swallow, this is a really good book. author seems to really love storylines with continuous sexual assault throughout the book, I thought it was never going to end. can you imagine what the character was going through. that would be my only criticism is to just get on with the story and not beat a dead horse with the repetitive assault scenes. allow the character more time to heal, to find love etc and to build a strong bond with their partner. because while the assault is shocking, it definitely gets boring and the mystery is gone if we expect it's gonna continue. other than that, I enjoyed the book, I needed more buildup between Luna and blade because it felt forced. but not bad.

Hmmm.... It was okay

The story was okay, but the poor grammar and exceptionally poor writing really distracted from the story. It took me much longer than it should have to finish this book because I was constantly backtracking to re-read sentences that didn't make sense. The author constantly had two different people speaking in the same paragraph. Run on sentences became the norm. And don't get me started on how weak and pathetic these clubs were. What club president is going to allow another club to continually attack his people and his businesses without retaliation? I think I will skip the rest of this author's books to preserve my sanity.

Blade (Dark Angel’s MC Book One) — damn, this book was emotional. I devoured it in one night.

⚠️ Trigger warning: SA and suicidal ideation are both central to the story.

This book dives deep into the trauma of not being believed—especially by the people who are supposed to protect you. I was so frustrated with Luna’s brother and mother, but I’m holding out hope for redemption, especially for Axe if he gets his own book.

Blade and Luna? I loved them. Luna was incredibly strong despite everything she endured. I do wish we got a bit more depth in their love story, but overall, this was a powerful read.

I’m absolutely hooked and can’t wait for the next book in the series.

Whew! This was a hard one. Luna endures unspeakable cruelty and abuse under the hands of someone the club and her family trust. Her pain is overlooked and her protection forgotten when it becomes her word against his. Her journey is visceral, raw and heartbreaking. But watching her find her will and purpose to live, is a revelation. I really enjoyed this one and look forward to seeing more in this series. Please check content warnings as there are some very heavy topics covered on page that could be triggering.
