"A perfect domestic thriller with a shocking ending that readers will not see coming!" - ARC reviewer
Early one summer morning, the body of young 21-year-old Blair Taylor is found floating in the neighborhood pool. Was it an accident or was Blair murdered the night of the annual summer picnic? Suddenly, the upper-class gated community where Blair's family and friends live doesn't feel safe. Blair's case is assigned to Detective Sadie Lawson. As she and her partner, Rhett Callahan, begin interviewing the neighbors, they realize everyone had a motive and had an opportunity. It doesn't take a detective to figure out that everyone on this street is lying to them. Secrets, affairs, and lies come to the surface as the detectives realize that Blair's murderer is closer than they think.
The Murdering Kind is for sure to be a big hit for readers of domestic thrillers and suburban settings.
Don't forget to check out other thrillers by Krissy The Last Night I Knew You, The Village, and The Visitor.
This book was very difficult to read. A lot of grammar and spelling issues. Some major inconsistencies that made it hard to follow - and way too many unnecessary sentences. During one chapter - I ended up skipping 4 pages that rambled on the same thing. I almost DNF this one but after skimming most of it - I got through it. The story had potential - it felt like playing a game of Clue but it just fell flat with too many affairs and issues.
I give this thing a 1.5 star. First of all... who edited this book? Because they need to be fired.
- The name Sadie spelt as "Said." - Forgetting to finish a quote with end quotation marks multiple times. - "Do want to explain this?" is a legit quote from the book... not "Do you want to explain this?" - Naming a chapter from Blair's POV when really it is Josh's. - 2 chapters out of this whole thing are from before the murder when there should have been MUCH MORE chapters named from before for the ending to make sense??!!
Listen... I don't write books. I know I don't have room to talk as far as publishing goes, but I think the author wrote this book in one go and immediately published it.
Second of all... the story had so much potential. I wanted to finish it and find out whodunit! I will admit I sort of guessed *part* of the ending but who the murderer turned out to be??? When I found out, I wished I hadn't even put this book on my shelf. Sure, call it in the name of the twist, but I was more confused and mad than shocked.
If anyone else reads this and wants to rant with me, LMK! <3
**editing to add, the ending line was super cringe IMO!!!!!**
Well that ending was not what I had expected at all! Wowza! I got confused a little with all the characters but it all came together nicely and definitely threw me for a loop for sure! Definitely recommend!
Absolutely dire! This could easily have been an episode of 90210... back in the day! I'm clearly reading too much teen garb and need to read books based on adult recommendations going forward. Poor grammar throughout, overly explained thoughts and plots for the stupid and sad that this was recommended as 'her best novel to date' Give it a miss if you're intrigued and I guess the rest of the authors's catalogue 🤷 My main fear is that this type of writing is making Frieda McFadden look good!
If there was an editor for this book, they need to be fired. I cannot get past the second chapter because it is so poorly written with tons of grammatical errors. We were told on three consecutive pages about how little parents know their children in almost the exact same verbiage all 3 times. There are missing commas, sentences that start with the word “and”, along with MANY more issues I can’t even begin to type. I will not read another by this author.
Nice story, good ending. But the spelling, grammar, and punctuation errors throughout the book made it difficult to follow. Switching points of view within the same paragraph, repetition, so confusing. The 2 stars are for the story itself but this was so hard to read. The author needs an elementary writing class.
This was not a great book and filled with a lot of grammatical errors which is frustrating. It was an easy read and didn’t take long to complete but nothing amazing and honestly I found all the different perspectives overwhelming because there were too many of them and legit everyone is having an affair with everyone. I felt like the author was trying too hard to be clever. I figured out who murdered Blair after the 3rd or 4th chapter (the twist wasn’t great because I knew early on and it’s easy to pick up if you paid attention). The only likable character was Harold and he was chapter 1 and the person who found the body. So so sad…great plot but wasn’t executed well.
Read like a teen drama, which i didn't mind but everyone was having affairs with everyone, like an episode of Hollyoaks! it was hard to keep up! Had to keep reading until the end though to see who actually killed Blair because everyone had a reason! Overall it was an okay read!
..many, many spelling and grammatical errors throughout. Certain parts were also extremely repetitive. Storyline was good, ending was unexpected, but the errors took away from a higher rating on my end.
Not only was the story not that great and jumped around too much for me, but the overwhelming amount of typos and missed words made it almost impossible to read.
The story was pretty good overall, but the actual writing kept distracting and irritating me. There was way too many grammar errors for a published book. The author seemed to repeat the same things a lot too, and the timeline seemed to mistakingly shift around in a way that irritating to follow. Each chapter is titled a different characters name, so I expected it to be told from their point of view, but some parts of the chapter were, while others were not. The ending had a major plot twist that made up for some of my frustration for the rest of the book, but still not super impressed with this one.
The story had potential, but the execution felt unfinished. The chapters read like a first draft. Disjointed and oddly placed, as if the author couldn’t quite decide what order they wanted to tell the story in. There were moments that made sense individually, but together they didn’t flow smoothly. I kept waiting for things to click or build up to something bigger, but instead it just felt… random.
I was also confused by all the “shocked” reactions to the ending. It wasn’t necessarily bad, just underwhelming and not as surprising as people made it sound. Overall, an interesting idea that could’ve been great with tighter editing and better structure.
I don’t know if they uploaded the very first draft to Kindle, but this book felt like reading Joey’s Officiant script at Monica and Chandler’s wedding. Too much repetition. Poor and choppy writing. SO many typos. Misuse of punctuation. And, while written primarily in third person, it would randomly switch to first. Too many POVs. Some chapters were supposed to be one character’s POV, and ended up being another’s. I truly felt like I was reading something written by a 5th grader. This could have been a good story had it been written well.
This was a quick read that I almost didn’t finish. The ending was unexpected but there were so many grammar errors, misspellings, and punctuation errors that made it hard to read. Each chapter was headlined by a character name so I assumed that chapter would be told by that character’s point of view. It would start out that way and then all of a sudden it would change to another character’s point of view, sometimes in the same paragraph. It was a mess. I did like the twist at the end but I don’t think I’ll read this author again.
The narrative was incredibly gripping, maintaining an intense level of suspense that compelled me to continue reading. The mysterious undertone kept me thoroughly engaged, eagerly anticipating the revelation of the unknown character's identity. Each page turned with heightened anticipation, as the plot skillfully built tension and intrigue, leaving me completely captivated and desperate to uncover the truth behind the unfolding mystery.
The body of Blair Taylor is found floating in the neighbourhood pool in a gated community. Detective Sadie Lawson begins her investigation questioning Blair’s best friend Kenley and ex boyfriend Landon. Soon it becomes apparent that everyone close to Blair has the motive to be a suspect.
Murder mystery with a few twists and turns. The typos and errors really need addressing in this book as it spoils the overall read.
3.5/4 Stars but the amount of typos throughout made me round down to 3 stars ⭐️. Like honestly, did anyone proofread this book? Otherwise, this was good, a quick read, several perspective changes which means constantly changing your mind about who it could have been even when you think you have it figured out. The ending was not entirely expected but as you got close to it, and as it was all coming together you could see how it was going to end.
This was a quick, easy read. I loved the storyline and would have given it 5 stars had there not been so many errors. There were numerous spelling mistakes - letters left off words like bet was written as be. Even Sarah's name was misspelled, written as "Said".
Mixed feelings about this book. The beginning instantly had me hooked. But then the varying perspectives started getting hard to keep up and every new chapter seemed like another person into the mix! The last 11 pages felt very rushed and I wish there was less fluff in the middle and more of an ending. But a great plot twist, and had me wanting to keep reading. Solid 3.5 stars IMO!
Definitely kept you going. Everyone had a secret of their own. It kept you going trying to figure it out. Most definitely, I did not expect that character to be the murdering kind. I gave it 4 stars because it just kept bouncing between all the characters. I guess I'm more of a duet type of book.
So, I began putting clues together but even I didn’t put it together fast enough! This tale will Keep you guessing and thinking it could be anyone and it truly was! Now I need to read another book from This author. Fast paced. Is everyone lying and falling apart? Read it and you’ll see:)
The drama in this story is juicy! And the twist at the end hit me right in the face, lol. There was lots of foreshadowing I realized after the twist was revealed. I really enjoyed it! The writing was a teensy bit juvenile and there were some grammatical errors. But there is something to be said for an easy read that keeps my attention and keeps me on my toes!
This is one that you won't want to put down until you finish it. Krissy Webb's best book yet and all of the others were good also. The Murdering Kind keeps you in suspense until the end and then it's a shocker as to how it ends. Great job and can't wait until her next one comes out.
I enjoyed this book. I kept trying to figure out who killed Blair. it looked obvious at first but the twist at the end definitely had you questioning yourself. This was a well written story that had you hooked from the beginning.
Enjoyed this book. A book about a young woman found murdered and floating in the wealthy gated community pool. Lots of who could have done it. I was lost on who did it until the ending. Did not see that coming. Recommend. Easy read.
