She lit the wrong ship on fire. Now she wakes up in my fortress, wearing my brand.
They sentenced her to die in the arena. I overruled them. Not to save her.
To own her.
She’s angry. Defiant. All sharp teeth and spit. But I’ve seen defiance before. It cracks.
She’ll eat when I say. Sleep when I allow. Speak only when spoken to.
And when her fire dims, I’ll light it again—on her knees, at my feet, begging for the control she swore she’d never surrender. I branded her to protect her from the Senate. But now?
I’ll keep her caged until she loves the lock.
Read on brutal warden energy, brand as collar, power play dynamics, sworn enemies, and a heroine who thought death was the worst fate—until she met him. HEA guaranteed.
DNF. My dnf has nothing to do with the quality of writing, I just really dislike, with a fierce passion, mouthy, combative fmcs - I detest it and for that reason, I really cannot continue. 100 pages in and I just want her to shut up already.
Listen. I knew Celeste King was going to take me on a ride, but I was not prepared to be dragged by the throat and emotionally wrecked by Burned to Obey. And honestly? I regret nothing. This story grabbed me by the jaw from the first page and said, "Look at me while I ruin you." And I did. I looked. I devoured. I begged for more. Our girl? A firestarter. Quite literally. She lights the wrong damn ship on fire and wakes up branded, bound, and trapped in a fortress ruled by a man who doesn’t do mercy—he does control. And wow, does he do it well. He didn’t save her. He claimed her. And that distinction? That’s the delicious ache that pulses through every interaction. He’s brutal. Cold. Absolute. And yet… he doesn’t break her fire—he feeds it. He bends her without snapping her. Pushes her into a corner, only to coax her out and force her to see her own strength through his eyes. And yes—there are collars and commands, but there’s also this raw, aching intimacy in how he watches her, studies her, waits for her to realize the cage isn’t punishment—it’s protection. And maybe, just maybe, it’s exactly what she needed all along. 💥 If you’re into: • Warden-dominant energy that doesn’t flinch • Enemies forced to confront obsession • Branding, power play, and twisted caretaking • And a heroine who goes from rebel to willingly ruined… Then Burned to Obey will wreck you in the best possible way. It’s heat, it’s hurt, it’s healing disguised as surrender. I read this with my jaw clenched and my soul screaming, and when I hit the end, I just stared into the void whispering, “Do it again.” Celeste King writes the kind of filth you want to tattoo on your soul—and I am so here for it.
-This book is part of theWorlds of Protheka universe which has intense, monster themes with some romance. I received a free cooy of this book and am voluntarily sharing my honest thoughts.
Naeva fights to survive in a brutal world where humans are controlled and branded. Saru, her enemy and captor, exudes dark, commanding power in a harsh arena.
Their explosive dynamic blends danger, passion, and twisted fate. Grim, gripping, and unforgettable—this is enemies-to-lovers with teeth. Another dramatic “nail biting” story, while not my favorite, an interesting read.
This Protheka universe story by Wynter Raven and Celeste King was enjoyable to read. . The characters were likable, the drama was engaging and their romance was steamy. This story is about Naeva our defiant human who burned a dark elf vessel, so she's sent to the fortress "The Ivory Bastion" and Saru a minotaur and the warden of the fortress. Naeva is assigned to the arena as fodder but Saru claims her. What occurs was an engaging story that captured me and entertained me to the end as their romantic adventures unfolded in the copy I'd received and volunteer to read and review.
