Emma Thomas had only intended to stay in Hollow Creek for a short time, just long enough to bury her past. But, once she got there, Hollow Creek just seemed like a great place to start over, especially now that Emma had put her old life behind her – but you can never leave your past behind forever, it can never be buried forever.
Hollow Creek isn't only a place to hide. Emma knows that this town is the last fragile thread that ties her to her foster brother. He had vanished years ago while they had been on a summer trip to Hollow Creek. But, like so many cases, his case had gone cold, the search for him was abandoned, each lead they got ended in yet another dead end – at least until now.
Chief Mark Taylor was the descendant of one of the founding families, he's spent his entire life in Hollow Creek, a town that was renowned for its supernatural secrets and all its buried scandals.
And then Emma moved into town – she's beautiful, fierce, but guarded and she's impossible to ignore. For years Mark has told himself to keep his distance. But, when Emma's past suddenly comes knocking on Mark's door, Mark knows that he can't turn his back on the one person he's been trying for years to resist.
When Emma and Mark's past and present collide, Mark finally realizes that he's at a crossroads. Is he going to let the ghosts of his past dictate his future, or will he break free of his past, of the shackles that hold him back and finally fight for the woman he's loved for years, the one woman who's been right in front of him all along?
Hollow Hearts is the 3rd book and the conclusion of the Hollow Creek series by Lara Bruni. I read the first two books in this series and loved them. So I was so excited to get my hands on this book. I have been waiting for this book, it's finally Emma and Mark's story and my oh my, I can honestly say that I was not disappointed in this book.
I have loved this series so much and I am just sorry that it is coming to an end. I can honestly say that I wish it would keep on going. I've come to think of these characters as friends and family and I am sorry that their stories are coming to an end, I am just so happy that I'll be able to return when I re-read these books.
Mark is a grumpy dirty dirty-mouthed man. His character is just perfect. I just love him so much.
Emma, is strong and intelligent and I love that she believed that she would eventually find out what happened to her foster brother. I honestly think that she was going to find him alive, I prayed that she was going to find him alive. She had such grace and dedication and observation. She didn't miss a thing. And the way that we finally get the chance to learn about Emma's past and everything that happened to her that summer. I loved that we finally got to know the truth.
I loved this story, the mystery was amazing and just fabulous. And the spice. Oh, the spice was so spicy hot.
And I love the way that Lara brought back Noah, Oliver, Kate, and Lily. They have this beautiful presence in this book that adds so much to the story. And the kitten, oh I loved that little kitten (of course, I am a cat person so I couldn't help but fall in love with the kitten) and Mark's reaction to the kitten is just so exquisite.
I loved that this story finally gave us the story that has been teased and has tormented us for the last two books. We finally get the payoff that we've been waiting for over the last two books and honestly, I have found that the wait was so worth the wait and it was worth reading the last two books to get to this point.
I loved how Hollow Hearts wrapped up and brought together all the mysteries of the series, and finally wrapped them all up. This was the perfect ending to the perfect Lara Bruni series.
I have to recommend Hollow Hearts but more than Hollow Hearts I have to recommend the entire Hollow Creek series. This is an amazing series. And I have to recommend Lara Bruni. She is a fabulous author and she has written some amazing books that deserve to be read. And you really should read them. They are just great books.
