Fey Lords #5

Fey Empire

Rate this book
My mother raised me to worship monsters. Now she’s given me to one.

I was born into her cult, raised on stories of the fey, of the magic slumbering in my blood, of the glory that would come when they returned to conquer Earth.

I was taught to kneel, to serve, to prepare myself for the day I would give up my magic. My body was never mine. It was a gift waiting to be claimed.

She always said it would be a fey prince.

I didn’t think that was possible. I thought it was a myth she clung to. A story to make obedience feel holy.

But now the portals have been opened. The fey have returned.

And I’ve been offered to Prince Selwyn Y Mabinogi, a creature with antlers, cat-slitted eyes and a smile that seems false.

My magic is the offering. My body is the vessel. My submission is the key.

He says he is proud I’m to be his. That he’ll gladly take my magic… and everything else I have to offer.

He touches me like I already belong to him. Speaks to me like I’m precious. Breakable. His.

I was never taught how to want. Never meant to enjoy any of this.

But my body answers to him like it was made for this.

And I’m starting to wonder if maybe it was.

2.5⭐️
This is the story of Laurie, a young man raised by his powerful mother to be a consort, and Selwyn, the fey prince who Laurie was promised to. They navigate their relationship while dealing with Laurie’s evil mom.

Like the other books in the series, you can expect magical spicy themes, insane fey court shenanigans, and a human / fey relationship.

We also get a lot of Dyfri in this book! I think he is the fan favourite (for good reason), and his book is set up in this one well.

There’s also a scene where Selwyn pushes Laurie under the table at a dinner party 👀 That was the highlight of the book for me 😂

Though I do find this series wildly entertaining, this book wasn’t my favourite. Laurie is very simple-minded and shallow, and doesn’t go through any growth. Selwyn’s character begins to be explored, but there is never any actual development. This book definitely feels like more of a “filler” book than other more stand-out books in the series like Mabon’s book, for example.

This book is great for if you want something simple and spicy, and is likely important to read before the next book in the series.

4.5 stars. I love this series where the Fey took over the world. It’s also entwined with other series and that’s really great!

Laurie was raised quite strict by his very ambitious mother. Laurie is a vessel, he will marry the Fey Prince Selwyn Y Mabinogi.

Laurie is insecure and inexperienced, as the Prince’s pet he knows he’s lower than low.

He learns the hard way what it means to live under the Fey’s and their particular behaviours. They can be cruel and mean. With Laurie on a leash, Selwyn shows him around at balls and events.

Laurie knows he will never be enough for Selwyn. Who takes his magic and disappears when the deed is done.
Oh boy, if he only knew!

There are secrets, so many secrets, it’s all quite complicated. There are many eventful moments and not only the hot ones in the bedroom.

To enjoy this one to the fullest, it’s more fun to read the others from this series.
As always it’s wonderfully written, super entertaining, and with all the feels!

Looking forward to Dyfri’s story in Fey Divinity!

I received an arc.

I absolutely love this series. The story is entertaining and keeps me guessing. The characters have me going through all the emotions.

I've been interested in Laurie's story since reading Unfettered Vessel (Pink & Monty's story). I wanted to know how the vessel manages to handle being married off to a Fey Prince. I always hoped that Laurie had it in him to show his spark. To not be meek and mild like his mother trained him to be. However, that was not the case. Laurie is very naive, and simple. There is not a lot to him but he is very endearing. Selwyn on the other hand is very interesting but unfortunately we don't get really any character development on his end.

I feel like this book needed to be written for the storylines sake not for the characters themselves. Which makes me terribly sad because I wanted more from Selwyn and Laurie.

Mabon & Llywelyn still reign supreme as my favorite princes from the series so far. I do fear Dyfri will take their place. There's more than meets the eye with him and I absolutely cannot wait for his story!

It’s not his book but Mabon ‘flouncing’ around dramatically in & out of every scene he barges into in some outrageous way, with Blake behind him like a devoted muscular-barely-clothed-shadow, will always be my favorite thing.

We got a Loo-loo update 🥹

DYFRI’S BOOK IS COMING SO SOON IM GONNA DIE

Now, the couple of the hour: Selwyn & Laurie.
Selwyn really is THAT guy. The swooniest. 🤌🏽 Laurie is the least involved as far as court politics go of all the love interests thus far, & that’s okay bc he’s not the sharpest tool in the shed but he is genuinely caring, kinda scared of everyone but only because he was raised to be that way - and I love that he was just allowed to BE that way. Selwyn was protective of him right out the gate, kept him from those things that the other LI’s got involved in in the other books, and let Laurie have his art, and his puppy, & his peace - they were perfect together.

Fey Empire is the 5th book in the Fey Lords series. Each book in the Fey Lords series follows a different couple. This means each book can be enjoyed as a standalone but why not enjoy the rest of the series. This is the story of Laurie a human vessel and Selwyn a Fey Prince. I really loved this book but that doesn't surprise me because I have loved the whole series. I love the characters and the world that S. Rodman has created. I love the spicy moments and the misunderstandings that happen. I can't wait for the next book in the series. I would definitely recommend this book and series as 5 star reads.

Laurie (Lawrence) grew up so very sheltered (and was also groomed/brainwashed by his abusive mother whom i hated with every fiber of my being!) so he came off as a really innocent, sometimes airhead character. he didn't care for schemes, plotting or fey/human politics, he just wanted a simple life, but above else he just wanted to be a good boy - like genuinely😇 and in all the sense of those words🔥 he yearned so much to be good (enough) for his new husband. i felt a lot for sweet lil Laurie, he was adorable, precious & i wanted him to be protected at all cost! like, my poor, precious boy was so brainwashed, he didn't think of himself & his needs, couldn't even imagine he could be loved & cherished!😭

ig needless to say i was delighted when things started to finally get better for Laurie, slowly but surely! i loved seeing him blossom more & more, he made some friends along the way as well as got accepted into a caring, loving (found) family😭🐾 (his friendship with Dyfri!!!! & Loki!!!!💗😭) he had an artsy side too which i found beautiful & really fitting. he did remain a kinda introverted, soft character but i think overall it suited him & his story how much his character developed.

while Laurie no doubt stole my heart, i loved the other MC, Selwyn too! he did manage to fool me in the previous books, he showed such different sides of himself in this book, and he was such a huge simp for Laurie, gosh my heart-💘💘💘 Laurie totally deserved all the admiration even if he couldn't understand/believe that was happening to him😭

as things progressed, Laurie was slowly able to discover his needs & desires which felt really liberating after everything he had been through. the spicy scenes were scorching hot yet also beautifully emotional! Selwyn really cared so deeply for Laurie, it was so palpable, he wanted the best for him & do right by him! i loved the little "twists" too, even if some things were predictable but in a good way. i have to add, Selwyn making Laurie sit in his lap like always & Selwyn carrying him everywhere made me completely melt!!🫠💘💘

Selwyn's love for plants & nature really added to the story as well, which went perfectly with his fey character🌿 i feel like in this book there were also more nature & "magical" vibes which created an intriguing fey-like atmosphere🍄✨ i also loved the brief visit to the fey realm, while visiting old friends👀 & all the side characters & cameos really spiced things up!

one thing i don't think i've mentioned before in my reviews of the previous books, is how hair styles & braids play such an intricate part in the whole fey court/world & in the storylines! it's all really thought out, and i love these elements, especially when the humans who know nothing about the meaning & importance of it all finally discovere them! it was all really well-done in this book as well, tho there was one occurrence when we, readers never find out what a specific braid means which kinda made me sad (irrationally, lol) bc i was just so curious of its significance!🙈

apart from this, one thing i *really* missed was how Selwyn's wolf form never got shown or even talked about! i do not understand how that never came up! in the very beginning of the book, when the MCs just met, Laurie did mention that Selwyn was giving off dangerous, mysterious and sorta a wild cat/wolf-like vibes but this plotline never got addressed or further explored. i would've loved to see Selwyn's wolf side & i'm confused how that got missed..

i think i could go on & on with my rant about this book haha there were lots happening plotwise & relationship-wise as well, and overall i really had a blast reading it all! the writing style is still something amazin, & made the story go so smoothly, swimmingly! and now i can't wait for the next (last!!😭) book to come out🙈😭 (can't believe it's finally time for my poor, precious Dyfri to get his story😭 i'm not ok😭🤧)

I’ve been eagerly awaiting Laurie’s story after meeting him as Monty’s brother through the Found & Freed: The Unfettered series, so I was super excited to be able to get this ARC through BookSirens. I’ve been demolishing those books, as well as this Fey Lords series and the previous DragonKin series. What I love about these books is that they are so easy to read, and they don’t feel too heavy despite the wide range of topics the stories explore.

What I’ve also adored about this series is that the Fey are viewed in such a negative way generally – I mean, of course, they are, they took over the world – but each of these novels reveal how the Fey Princes are misunderstood in some ways and show the real them under the masks they wear in public, even sometimes letting their brothers believe the negative opinions of them. But despite any animosity between them, it becomes clearer how much they care about each other in every book, even if things appear otherwise.

I’ve really enjoyed how all these books are interconnected with the main storyline continuing through these series. This book especially has big overlaps with the previous book, and I appreciated seeing the events from Laurie’s POV, particularly as he learns much about the brothers’ relationship and realises that the Fey do feel emotions.

Despite everything Laurie has gone through in the lead up to his arranged marriage, the last word of the first chapter gave me real hope for his and Selwyn’s relationship. And there’s definitely an ‘otherworldly’ connection between them: Laurie is always aware of his presence and is drawn to Selwyn even when he slightly fears him.

What I adore about Laurie and Selwyn’s relationship is the quiet affection between them. Yes, there’s confusion and miscommunication between them about their feelings for each other, but they both show that they care in different ways. Selwyn shows his feelings more obviously (though Laurie is oblivious to them) – always trying to do what’s best for Laurie (even if these attempts are slightly misguided), making sure that his consort always takes his pleasure during intimate acts (‘intimate’ feels more appropriate than spicy for these two), and giving Laurie such meaningful gifts without expecting anything in return – while Laurie really tries to be a good consort, however misleading his education has been.

Selwyn’s selfless love, even when he’s worried that Laurie may never share his feelings, always had me swooning and my heart was so full during all his sweet gestures. Every time he says Laurie’s name, whispered or reverent, I could feel his adoration down to my bones.

"You are always beautiful, Laurie. But when you give me a smile, it steals my breath away." (Selwyn)

Selwyn and his family help Laurie to grow in confidence and be himself, and I loved seeing him grow from a meek, shy, awkward thing – who keeps his eyes on the ground when his Prince speaks to him and bumbles his way through conversations – to someone who feels more confident in himself and is needy and responsive in bed.

I’ve loved all the books in this series, but this one has become my favourite. There’s something just so darn sweet about these two, despite all the misunderstandings; Laurie’s innocence and naivety after being brought up to believe certain lies is made abundantly clear immediately but it takes a while for Selwyn to realise this. And Selwyn’s determination in trying to make sure that Laurie is happy with his new life, and his touching concern and confusion whenever he sees his human cry, just endeared him to me so much.

I am now especially eager to read Dyfri’s book. The anticipation of getting to know him properly has been building over each story – very cleverly done by the author – and I cannot wait to see what happens when we finally get his chapter of the story.

I also have to give a special mention to Mabon’s appearances in this book – always being so very Mabon, his outrageous requests never fail to amuse me!

Goodness gracious, this was the longest I've gone without reading for... a while. I feel like I almost forgot how to do it 😅 but the familiar environment helped. Of course, it's a Rodman book so the odds were 50/50 if that familiarity wouldn't turn... sour instead.

Like, this was actually a vessel book. I gave up on that series some time ago because it felt like "soooo their first night was more of a gentle rape than outright assault" was a very low bar for a romance book. And this book? It simultaneously surpassed my expectations (not that much but still) and also pointed out how silly it is of me to care and to respect this book and to like the romance.

Basically, the MC is a walking trauma who, by his own admission, has to spine or thoughts or plans beyond how to not suffer whatever master he is put under. His new master is his husband and in one single day, he manages to be kinder to him than his mother (previous master) was to him for his whole life. Good, right? Sewlyn is a kind love interest, ignorance is his worst feature and that's mostly so the romance doesn't progress too quickly. It's completely natural to fall in love with the person who you find attractive as long as he shows basic kindness and makes sure to actually give you some basic niceties (like paints or being allowed to go on walks or... the list is very short, mind you) and that is the crux of the problem. And no, a side character pointing out this fact and being all self-aware and making fun of it does not make it better.

I eventually realised that no actual romance took place.

I have watched this video that keeps popping into my thoughts way too often when reflecting on a book about how modern romance is smut that pretends to cater to women but is kinda manipulative. That women are naturally empathetic and the books use this to have us enjoy... some stuff. Including smut we don't initially like but do in the end? Point is, this was pretty smutty. Their bedroom relationship was more developed than their actual relationship. I can't recall a single conversation that would be considered part of a relationship, like any part of it, no curious quastions at the begining, no hard questions at the end... There was a declaration of love, the two of them chose each other but at the end, I was confused as to why. The physical closesness masked the fact that there was no... mental, emotional closeness. I think every romance should be... you should be able to "analyse" it, to point to a few things. This is the moment he realized this new thing about him, this is when their personalities clashed, this is him making a mistake and this is him making reparations. This is when he found a character trait he likes and his feelings grow. I can't find that here.

There was plenty of side plot to fill the pages - we see every couple from previous books, even some from other series. But the actual romance... I closed the book and it felt pretty hollow.

The point/plot/plot twist? I can't even say what it is because it is definitely a suprise but it should affect the whole romance... that part was nice, I like this... trope? But that only contributed my feeling of: why would they even fall in love? What do they see each other besides "what a nice and hot guy, let's be happy together"?

Anyway... I liked the book, but I think it worked better when I was just going along with whatever happened and not thinking about it too deeply.

When I read the last book in the “Unfretted” series, I knew I would eagerly await this volume about the Feys. And I was not disappointed at all.
Laurie had already piqued my curiosity a little when he appeared in Pink's story, but I really fell in love with him in the first 30 pages of this story.
How can I explain what enchanted me so much about these two without giving anything away? I have no idea, so I apologize if I do give anything away. I love (LOVE!) that we're not just playing with good and evil here, but that the world is becoming increasingly gray. Just as the Fey are changing the world and Buckingham Palace, so too is the yardstick for morality and how love is seen and lived. I was so delighted when Laurie recognized the wolf in sheep's clothing and didn't fear him.
The tender bonds become something that is simply beautiful, and I can only agree. Some marriages are for a time, others are for eternity.
So... now to Mum. What the hell! And Dyfri? WHAT. THE. HELL????? Oh my God, my heart. My poor, poor heart.
Now, at the end, both of the story and of my nerves, I can say that it's good and right where Dyfri is now and what happens next. It feels better than what one would initially wish for. But it's still associated with pain and longing. Okay, I'm way too involved with my heart and soul, but I guess that can't be changed anymore.
But now I almost forgot about Mommy, and she's really not someone you should forget. How much can you dislike someone or even wish all kinds of things on them? SO MUCH! What she did to Laurie and Dyfri and... okay, I have to calm down, otherwise I'll yell at my Kindle again.
Sorry about that.
I'm not happy with how things turned out with her. And yes, I'm not happy. I think it would have been better if she had ended up like that guy at the beginning of the engagement party... you know. Or you'll know when you read it.
Okay, I'm fine now.
Highly recommended and my favorite book in the series after Volume 1.
Also—awwwww. Gray. He's my heart demon and I love him.

Fey Empire is book five in the Fey Lords series, part of S. Rodman’s paranormal universe where a number series are interlocked, many with overlapping timelines and characters, the main ones being the fey princes / brothers and their pets / lovers. It is fairly essential that the reader is at least somewhat familiar with the universe via one or more of the linked series. There are quite a few ‘heads-ups’ along the way that help. Fey Empire focuses on Selwyn and the human vessel he is offered in marriage, Lawrence. The story is from Lawrence’s or Laurie’s point of view as he is introduced to Selwyn by his ambitious and controlling mother. What Laurie finds out is that he has been poorly prepared for the life of fey prince’s consort in terms of lack of education and information. He has also been misled about a number of things.

Laurie is an innocent amongst wolves and has to navigate bizarre fey etiquette and the political intrigue of both fey and humans situated in Buckingham Palace, now the seat of the fey government in Britain. Laurie has been trained to obey and be quiet but he soon finds out that will not work for him as his new terrifying and kind husband expects things from him he knows little about.

It is all very compelling and exciting as Laurie missteps constantly while at the same time impressing those around him by being something / someone they had not expected. As with most of the author’s work there are hot intimate moments and understandings to be made. I was hooked after the first chapter and found it hard to put down. Great stuff.

I am so hooked on this series and this book was no exception. There is always so much intrigue and different sub-plots to follow alongside the romance itself. Laurie and Selwyn had brilliant chemistry and they worked really well together as a couple; I wish some of the miscommunications weren't there as they were a little bit obvious but I was certainly along for the ride with these two. It was well-paced and kept me interested throughout. I didn't really like how Laurie was so convinced that he was stupid and this wasn't ever really challenged. He was sweet and his heart was always in the right place. Selwyn kept this sense of mystery around him for a lot of the story but I loved seeing him so vulnerable with his feelings for Laurie. It was a book that I wished we had duel POV to really dig into his character a little bit more and know what he was thinking and feeling at given moments. I enjoyed the link between Laurie and his brother Monty from a different S Rodman series (Unfettered Vessel) so that was a nice surprise appearance! However, the character who once again stole my heart was Dyfri. Since book 1 I have been invested in his story and he only keeps growing as a character. I really can't wait for his book because if anyone deserves a HEA it's him! Overall, another good addition to the series and a cute HEA for these two. I'm looking forward to the final book in the series.

I received an ARC and this is my honest review.

Fifth in series (Fey Lords), best if read in order. Paranormal fantasy. Arranged marriage. Hurt/comfort. Found family. Single POV. Heed content warnings.

Laurie has trained to be a vessel all his life and now he is married to a fey prince, but still unsure of his place as a fey consort. Trying to understand what Selwyn wants from him beyond submission is difficult, but Selwyn is kind and caring, and away from his mother’s abuse Laurie feels unusually safe with Selwyn.

This story continues the overarching plotline of the series with court intrigue, a main couple that have very spicy times together, and the beginnings of a loyal found family. Luckily Selwyn eventually shares some of his motivations with Laurie, but the fish out of water scenario doesn’t make as much sense with Laurie as he should have been taught by his mother all things fey. Regardless, I really enjoyed Laurie and his innocence and how much you can tell Selwyn is trying with him even if communication is minimal at first. There are parts of this series that are really heart wrenching (Dyfri), so sometimes it’s hard to continue, but I do enjoy seeing the royal family happy and with their chosen partners having an eventual HEA. 4.5 rounded up

Fey Empire is Selwyn’s book, written in the POV of his betrothed/husband Laurie. Laurie and his mother originally appeared in the Unfettered Fey series. Laurie is a sweet person who starts out being a little weary of the fey in general. As he integrates into the household and gets to know his brothers-in-law, as well as getting distance from his horrible mother’s influence, he comes into his own. Selwyn is incredibly gentle with Laurie, giving him the time he needs to become comfortable with his new reality. Selwyn’s feelings on the whole fey invasion are revealed, and it’s very interesting that each fey brother seems to be doing things on their own, and not working with each other. They’re not being malicious, but you’d think they might get more accomplished by doing so, haha! So glad to see lots of appearances by my favorite fey brothers: Mabon and Dyfri. Especially Mabon for the hilarious antics. The last 25% percent of the book sets the way for Dyfri’s book and I can’t wait to read what happens. This is such a great series, one of the few that I’ve looked forward to reading each book immediately as it’s released.

The Penultimate Book

Fey Empire
Fey Lords #5
Here we are at the penultimate book in this series.
We met Monty in the Unfettered series where he mates with vessel Pink.
Through interlinked books we know he has been searching for his brother Laurie since their Mother spirited him away and plans to marry him off to a Fey.
As a vessel in the han world, Laurie has few rights, but as the potential consist of Prince Selwyn, things are a lot different.
At the beginning, Laurie is very much the meek, mild 'Little Lamb' Selwyn names him.
But as he gets to know his consort, the erratic human pets and husbands of the equally erratic fey princes, he begins to find a home and friends.
Amidst the romance and the steam we have the machinations of his mother, the secrets Selwyn is clearly hiding, and the ongoing threats to Dyfri.
We get our HEA of course, but we also finally get a wider understanding of where the next - potential - series might lead to.
These are great stories, characters, and world building. As well as the darker elements there's lots of fun, laughter, romance and found family.
I adore this series.

So many secrets and mysterious and dangerous characters within this unique world. Each book focuses on one couple, but has an overarching plot that continues throughout.

The main focus for this book is the developing relationship between Fey Prince Selwyn and human Laurie. Poor sweet, naive Laurie was raised by a horrendous mother who kept his life severely restricted and is now forced to wed Selwyn.
Selwyn is not at all what he seems, he has secret motives, abilities, and a personna that he presents to everyone. Despite the deceptions and fears, Laurie and Selwyn begin to form a genuine connection fairly quickly, and once Laurie starts to come into his own and see Selwyn for who he truly is, their love becomes empowering and leads to their HEA.

This book was quite entertaining and enjoyable to read. Both MC's were truly likeable and I liked that MC's from previous books still make an appearance and are important for the overall plot.
One of the secondary characters I am most looking forward to learning his story is Dyfri as he has already stolen my heart.

I received an ARC from BookSirens, this is my honest opinion.

The Fey Lords series is great for some fast-paced, spicy fun with some thorough world building that somehow doesn't dominate despite being complex and really captivating. This is book 5 in the series, and because of how the developing plotline (which runs through the series, though each focuses on a specific couple) it needs to be read in sequence, and I think it make sense to read it after the Found & Freed/Unfettered series too - or use it as the catalyst to read that one, as that's where Laurie's brother, his vessel/husband and their found family is introduced. I'd say this one's a bit less dark than some of the others, there's a lot less cruelty (and plenty of what there is comes from the humans, not the supposedly 'evil' Fey) but do check the trigger warnings and the magical system on which the world (and plot) runs is a dark one. This wasn't my favourite in the series, partly because Laurie lacks the underlying feistiness I tend to expect from even Rodman's meekest characters, but there's still lots to love in it, the spice is as always spicing hard, and it's setting us up for the series finale to end all finales.

S. Rodman's Fey Empire (Fey Lords book #5) hit the spot. I love this series and this installment is great. You follow the relationship of Prince Selwyn and the Vessel Laurie (brother of Monty from her Found and Freed series book #6 Unfettered Vessel). Laurie a vessel from a prominent family is chosen to become the Prince Consort to Prince Selwyn. He is naive and has had limited real world experience. Trained to be an obedient vessel to serve the sexual needs of his husband. He learns that sex can be an incredible and loud and wanton and he learns that most of the training he and other vessels receive is to keep them compliant. He blossoms under the love of Selwyn, finally free from his controlling bitch of a mother. Intrigue at the Fey court and plots with the resistance. Laurie finds himself in the middle of chaos but Selwyn is always there to hold him up and support him.
I love this series. It has scorchingly hot gay sex through out. It has sweet tender moments as well as surprises. You will want to give this book a read! It is amazing!

This is another great installment in the series. It seems the fey have a steep learning curve, and they are becoming more empathetic each iteration. Communication continues to be an issue, however, and causes issues for the MCs Laurie and Selwyn.

Selwyn is obviously enamored with sweet Laurie, but he fails to be transparent with his feelings. Both characters erroneously believe the other is not fully invested in the relationship, thus causing problems that are easily resolved with a conversation. Their love flourishes in spite of their communication difficulties, and they finally make declarations that solidify their relationship.

Both characters are lovely, especially the adorably naive Laurie who does not possess a malicious bone in his body. Selwyn is more calculating, but his adoration for Laurie is clear in every decision he makes. They both complement one another and are a perfect pairing.

Thank you to Book Sirens and S Rodman for providing an ARC. My review is an honest evaluation of the book.

I absolutely love these two together!!! Selwyn is so sweet and tries so hard to navigate little Laurie's boundaries. Yall are in for it with this one, Selwyn has moved up to my 2nd favorite fey in this series! Poor Laurie just wants to be a good boy for Selwyn and Selwyn just wants to spoil Laurie and make him feel better about himself without his mother's influence. I am so happy we got more Dyfri in this book, he's probably my favorite all dark and sassy on the outside but a cinnamon roll inside! I'm also happy to see this being tied in with the universe of The Unfettered series! If you haven't read those then you should, masterpieces! Anyway this book is yet another incredible addition in this beautiful little world Rodman has created and im obsessed with all of them. I do wish we got some of Selwyn p.o.v but I think we felt his emotions and thoughts in other ways.
I got this book as a free advanced copy but my reviews are always honest and clear cut. I love this author and yall need to read these so I have book friends to gush over these fey with!!!

I really didn't know what to expect of this book - Fey Sovereignty Selwyn seemed mysterious and potentially cruel. But wow he is the softest sweetheart for his husband! I loved him so much, he is so devoted to Laurie and desperate to please him. We really do see a totally different side to Selwyn in this book and I ate it up!

Laurie is my little anxious bean who doesn't expect anyone to ever be kind to him and drinks up affection like a sponge. I adored him and his ooey gooey cinnamon roll ways. He is also the world's worst accidental spy. I laughed so much at all the ridiculous scenarios he kept finding himself in!

As always the spice was excellent, very loving and intimate! I just really adored these two together.

The ending slightly devastated me (don't worry it's an HEA for our couple) and I am both extremely excited and slightly nervous about the final book!

While I enjoyed this book, it didn't quite hit the mark for me as much as the other installments in the series. The story follows Selwyn and Laurie, but we only get Laurie's point of view. I think the narrative would have greatly benefited from a few chapters from Selwyn's perspective, as the plot felt a bit thin at times.

Because we're limited to Laurie's perspective—and he rarely leaves his rooms—I felt we missed a lot of the overarching plot. The few interactions he had with the larger world felt forced and lacked substance. Some scenarios also seemed contrived, playing out the way they did just to set up the next and final book in the series.

Despite these issues, I was very happy to get an update on Llewelyn and Ethan, and it was great to see more of Dyfri, who is my favorite of all the brothers. I'm definitely looking forward to his story in the next installment.

Laurie was raised knowing that one day he would be given to a Fey Prince. Timid, shy, and lacking confidence, he only knows what his mother and coaches taught him. Which was obey and submit to his husband. His first meeting with Selwyn, the Fey Prince, did not go smoothly, but what grew between them was a truly beautiful story. I adored Selwyn; he’s basically a big Fey teddy bear.

I absolutely love this series. What’s not to love? There’s secrets, magic, spells, potions, poison, and so much more. While this is book 5 and can be read as a standalone, I strongly recommend starting from book 1 to fully enjoy all the characters and connections.

And oh, my heart Dyfri. From the moment we first met him, I’ve been aching for his story. He always seems to get the short end of the stick, always the outcast. I cannot wait for the day he finally gets his HEA.

I got an ARC for this book in exchange for an honest review. Although I wouldn't have done it if I hadn't liked the rest of the series, so, it might be biased. But I loved it!
The plot can be summarized as "Young, sheltered man from abusive family has arranged marriage and falls for his husband and is accepted into his family while his past abusers meddle", not much else happens. There's political intrigue and the background is a literal (cozy) apocalipse, but MC and main POV character Laurie actively chooses to stay out of it, and focuse on his own personal growth. The thing is, I, personally, like to read books not for what happens in them, but for how they make me feel. And this book (this author, really), makes me feel... calm. And relaxed, I read it to fall asleep (as an insomiac, that's priceless). It's mainly an H/C book and it does it extremely well.
5/5, I actually read it twice in two weeks.

Selwyn and Laurie 4eva 😍

Another fantastic instalment to this series. I really enjoy the world within our world that the author has created.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. All thoughts are honest and my own.

I thought Laurie's growth as a person was really well done and I loved reading his inner thoughts especially when he was excited about something and his innocence came through.

I love Selwyn so much so I wanted more of him and more of them together. I think their dynamic is so cute and I wanted more.

I do wish they had more interactions sooner, I feel like we got a lot of just Laurie in the beginning.

The brothers as always are so great and I love seeing the little cameos the author puts in.

This is a really great continuation of the series and with the groundwork that has been set up for Dyfry I'm excited to read what's next in the series.

Laurie, a man who was raised in a cult to believe that the fey would one day return to conquer Earth and that he was destined to be a magical offering to one of their princes. After his mother gives him to Prince Selwyn Y Mabinogi, a fey creature, Laurie is forced to confront the reality of his cult's teachings. He was raised to believe his body and magic were not his own but a gift for the prince. Although he wasn't taught to desire this fate, he finds himself captivated by the prince's touch and words.

I loved this story with the two men were put together in something similar to an arranged marriage. Laurie had to work through the conflict between his ingrained beliefs and his unexpected physical and emotional response to the man who claims him. The story also had a lot of Dyfri which set up the next book in the series nicely. Easy to read, feel and understand. This was an MM story with mature content.

already the fifth installment of this series.
and it was really good. I really hope this author will become more popular in the future because they can definitely write something good!

once again we can clearly sense that fey and humans are not from the same species and that they can't really understand each other and their customs which is really intriguing and would have loved to dive a little more into that.

I skipped some smut scenes because there are quite a few but if you enjoy them you'll really like them.

I can't wait for the last book of the series. I don't know what to expect regarding the plot. it seems that maybe there's too much to be covered in only one book so I'm really curious. and i'm happy the saddest character will finally have its own story.

I'm now toying with the idea of reading more books by this author. I'll decide after reading the final book because I'm afraid to not like them as much as this series lol

What do you mean I spent an all nighter to finish this book?

It was REALLY good. Not my fav of the series, but I'm glad for it : it was quite tame and cute compared to the previous one who trew me on the floor and stamped on my heart. We have a semblance of reprieve here and it was sooooo good. Laurie is pretty simple minded and it is okay, because the overall plot is getting thicker and thicker. His relationship with Sil is just ADORABLE!

Now, author, please, PLEASE, I'M BEGGING YOU THROUGH TEARS, give Dyfri the HEA that he deserve. He's my favorite character and he suffered enough for this life and the next 5. He really deserve THE BEST happy ever after (especially with what happens to him at the end of this book). I'm looking forward to the next and last book, that should wrap the entire plot of the fey invasion and give us a happy story for Dyfri.

I hate fey and court stories but decided to give this one a try. I didn't care for the authors way of storytelling or speech, it felt off. I hate stiff storyline where the MC is treated like an object yet the ML doesn't see them that way but never expresses that. It's just wrong. You can't love someone and let them feel bad about themselves. I also didn't like how weak the MC was and took everything lying down. That's one of my main problems and biggest pet peeves with Fey realm stories. I gave it a shot thinking I'd like it like all of the other women normally do to hetero books but sadly it just wasn't for me. The MC needs to grow a backbone and stop giving in, I wish he'd at least once said no to sex and the ML needs to stop leaving the MC after sex and actually EXPLAIN himself. It's so frustrating.

This might end up being my favourite of this series so far. Lawrence (Laurie) was such a sweet character, despite the utter torment his life up until his marriage was. The entire story is told from Laurie’s point of view, and there were incidents from previous books where we get to see another perspective. All of the intrigue and politics were fascinating and one of the things I love about these books is when one of the ‘baddies’ gets their comeuppance. And this time it was excellent – I felt so proud of Laurie in those moments, I was grinning like a fool. It was excellent to catch up with the other pets and Princes and I am fascinated by where things are going to go next.

I received an ARC from BookSirens.
