Rose loves words. She loves daydreaming by the window and railing against society in her thoughts. Fragments of novels fill her room, but for now, she’s stuck in a business school she hates.
She searches for her place in a world inhabited by heartless robots, certain that only on an island will she at last find happiness. She still has no idea the role her rebellions will play in making her dreams come true.
Iris loves love. He traveled around the world in search of that feeling, until the day a fortune teller’s strange words lead him to Paris. Convinced that it’s underneath the Eiffel Tower he’ll meet his soulmate.
Between midnight wanderings along the Seine and stolen dances in the hidden corners of the city, will Rose find the courage to open her heart again, to life, and perhaps, to Iris ?
This novel is the journey of a metamorphosis, the story of a love that reignites the flame of possibility, and a voice that dares to challenge the silence of a world asleep.
Fanfan writes stories that explore meaningful questions about society, always with a touch of hope. She sprinkles romance throughout her stories because love is what makes life truly magical. Writing has been her dream since she was a kid, using words to touch hearts and open minds. When she’s not writing, you’ll find her reading outside, creating memories with loved ones, or capturing moments with disposable cameras. <33
loved this book SO much 🩵 if you’re looking for an inspiring self discovery story that follows a 19 year old girl as she learns to believe in love again this is for you! It takes place in Paris & the Greek islands and it was such a beautiful hopeful romance/coming of age story. It was the most magical story & I couldn’t recommend it more!!! Such a special book 🤍🤍🤍
⤷ ‘I am so proud of you, and believe me when I say you will save the world with your book, by giving humanity back to humans. I love you.’
🐙 L’humaine is a philosophical allegory on what it means to be a human in today’s society. In a way it’s almost dystopian, in a manner that chills you to the bone, because really, when you think about it, it’s all true present day, rather than simply in the distant future. Full of thoughts and criticism on how people live, stifling creativity in order to conform, this is a book that really gets you thinking on how you choose to live your own life and whether you too want to end up like those mindless robots.
₊⊹ With both Parisian and Greek settings, this book feels like a European holiday and instills a sense of peace within. I was borderline yearning for a quick little Greek getaway as I read and I genuinely feel inspired to finally get my thoughts and stories onto paper. Rose is a very introspective protagonist and reading this book is quite literally like reading her thoughts and commentary on society, every little comment translating to paper. I have to say, this is a really good debut for the author and it could’ve been so much longer and I still would’ve enjoyed it. At points, the romance and the story itself felt rather rushed but I think that translates exactly how Rose was feeling as she mentioned how swept away she felt upon meeting Iris.
and for a debut novel, it’s honestly so impressive. i really loved fanfan delarose’s writing style : soft, fluid, and so emotional. i can’t wait to see what she writes next.
the story follows rose, a young woman who feels completely out of place in the world around her, stuck in a life that doesn’t quite fit, until she meets iris, who slowly changes the way she sees life, love, and herself.
this book is about doubts, dreams, and hope. it speaks about feeling different, not fitting into society’s “mold,” not knowing where you belong, or how to truly connect with others. and i think it’s such an important book for young people who feel that way.
i truly wish i had read this 10 years ago, when i was that same girl — a little lost, a little naive, wanting more from life than what was expected of her, but not knowing how to get there.
such a soft, comforting, and deeply human story.
and thank you to fanfan for trusting me with her book 🤍
sadly I don’t know when I started the book as it was last year so I chose a random date but I do know that I finished it within one day because I loved it so much!! The author reached out to me with so much kindness I knew that I would be ordering the book, it’s so cute and I love the fact that there is only cute moments and no spice or anything like that. As a person who reads a bit of both I do think that any spice would’ve ruined the cute vibe in this book! You can tell there has been so much care and thought put into it!! This definitely makes it into my top 10 favourite romances I’ve read :) Fan fan is so nice aswell and she actually takes time to read your comments on social media and replies, If you are debating whether to buy it BUY IT ITS WORTH THE MONEY!!!!
This book is very nice to read but it still makes you think about stuff. It evokes a lot of different themes through an incredible love story and an amazing self work on the heroin. I 100% recommend this book !
This was so beautiful and well-written. I adored this story and it very quickly became something very special to me. It felt like a breath of fresh air, the way the author described loved, humanity and the world was just said so well in my opinion.
"Why not give life one last chance? This time, you might be surprised... It's not time to give up yet, you still have so much to discover. All you need to do is look at life from a different perspective."
Our main character Rose feels like she doesn't belong. She doesn't agree with what the world has come to, how we're so involved with technology, and we don't really know how to talk to each other or express our love. And what she was saying was absolutely true, in today's world human's are slowly beginning to lose sight, and become robots. We prefer texting instead of speaking to each other, we order online and have our food delivered to our houses instead of going out and being around others. People today struggle to express themselves, because the example people have put out for others is that, talking about our feelings is a sign of weakness, and we aren't supposed to talk about it or be a burden to others. It's very sad this is the way we act socially, and reading this book was just so beautiful and it gives you hope.
"People are so connected to new technology that they forget to be connected to each other. Human connection is something so pure and strong, but sadly, it's disappearing. Because of this technology, everything moves much faster, everything is much less deep, much less real. People don't take the time to live and savor life anymore. No one learns to be bored and appreciate that time for themselves. Even two friends can't enjoy each other company without retreating into their technological bubble. People no longer know how to appreciate each other and spend real time together. The world is becoming virtual. And I feel alone in what's left of the real world, of what the should be."
Iris, the guy who Rose falls in love with, is this guy who is a firm believer in love. He grew up seeing his parents so in love with each other, and he aspires to find that for himself. He challenges Rose, and makes her think, and he allows her to be herself and show parts of herself to him when she felt she couldn't.
"I like the questions he asks me. They're questions that make you think, that make you dig deep. For me, that's how you get to know someone. You don't know someone must because you know how they dress or their favorite restaurants. No, you know someone when you know their biggest dreams, their worst fears, and their interpretation of life. Once you connect with someone that way, it's for life, nothing can separate you."
for a debut novel, this was so impressively written. i loved fanfan’s prose - emotional, soft and sincere. it was the perfect coming of age novel with the vibes of a 2000s romcom (my ultimate favourite).
we follow rose, a girl who feels disconnected to the world and what it has become. she doesn’t agree with how the world has become so reliant on technology, robbing us of our ability to communicate with each other or even express our love. rose’s journey of self discovery and her struggles to find meaning in a disconnected world felt so real and heartfelt. the exploration of loneliness, love, identity and what it means to be ‘human’ in a world that can feel cold and disconnected. rose’s story really resonated with me and i saw a lot of myself in her.
the setting of the Paris and the Greek islands was probably one of my favourite aspects - as a girl who always dreamt (and dreams) of travelling there. it added the perfect sprinkle on top of the romance that bloomed between rose and iris. oh, and iris, the firm believer of love. he grew up seeing how in love his parents were and wishes to find this love for himself. there was s sense of fate intertwined throughout the book, as both iris and rose learn more about themselves, each other, love, and what it means to truly connect
some quotes i really loved: “People are so connected to new technology that they forget to be connected to each other… Because of this technology, everything moves much faster, everything is much less deep, much less real. People don’t take the time to live and savour life anymore”
“The world is becoming virtual. And I feel alone in what’s left of the real world, of what should be”
“what’s the greatest proof of love someone can give?
I don’t think i’ve experience enough love in my life to know the answer
I understand wanting to romanticize this book, it takes place in romantic cities and the message is extremely clear.. that we really need to disconnect in order to connect with each other and see the beauty in all things/life again. What threw me off is the way the character tries to get her message across... constantly complaining about the robots we all are as if she was the only person in the world who thought this way. I found her negativity a bit too repetitive for a book that is supposed to be about bringing the beauty of life back into humanity. Nonetheless, it was an okay/cute first book, more of a palette cleanser for me. I'm still curious to read this author's second book.
“L’humaine” is a beautifully written, heartfelt novel that feels like a warm hug for the soul. The writing is gentle, poetic, and deeply emotional, capturing love, vulnerability, and what it truly means to be human. Set against a soft, romantic atmosphere, this story stays with you long after the last page. It’s hopeful, sincere, and incredibly touching. A lovely read for anyone who enjoys meaningful romance with depth and sensitivity. Highly recommended.
🌟4.25 What a beautiful coming of age story with the perfect vibes of a 2000s romcom! This book is a truly special journey of self-discovery and learning to find love in a world that can sometimes feel quite dark. It takes place in Paris and Greece, with such a beautiful and hopeful romance between Rose and Iris blooming. Truly such a magical story, especially for the hopeless romantics out there!!
This book is a must-read! Behind this beautiful romantic story lies philosophical thoughts that open our eyes to life, our world, and our system! The main character, Rose, is a young woman who pursues her dreams and questions us about love, happiness, our way of thinking, being, and living! She reconnects us with our humanity! Bravo!!!
Fanfan’s L'Humaine is as beautiful as it is moving. The writing is of great finesse, the characters vibrant with emotion, and the message profoundly human. A book that leaves no one unscathed. A must-read!
I really enjoyed this book, which is fluid, simple, and profound all at once, questioning our humanity through a life-changing encounter with another, and with ourselves. I highly recommend it.
J’ai dévorée l’Humaine ! Beaucoup de sensibilité et de grâce que l’on ressens dans la plume de l’auteur ! L’histoire est lumineuse et profonde, je le recommande vivement !
