Some teachers don’t just teach—they protect. He’s not your typical teacher. He’s the man they call when things go wrong. Deadly wrong.
Graham Ellis is a quiet English teacher living in small-town America. But behind the calm voice and dry wit is a past soaked in danger—he’s ex-SAS, trained to survive, and lethal when pushed.
When his students are kidnapped during a field trip, Graham doesn’t call for help - he is the help.
Armed with nothing but his intelligence, grit, and a history he hoped to forget, Graham steps back into a world of violence, trafficking, and global conspiracies. What begins as a rescue turns into a war—and he’s ready to fight.
If you like Jack Reacher, Jason Bourne, or Robert McCall. You’ll love Graham Ellis.
This is a very well written, fast-paced book. My rating may be a little low, but I felt there were so many opportunities to expand a little more on the actual storyline. I could definitely see this as an action movie with Bruce Willis in the lead role. A high school teacher surely has a specific set of skills from his time in the military, and rushes to help his students when they are kidnapped. However, the reason the kids were taken, in my opinion, could have been expanded on, for some gut-wrenching reading. This played out more like a Die-Hard movie. But truly well written, and I could see vividly everything happening as I was reading it. Honestly, I hope there is more to come.....
This book is a powerful and beautifully written tribute to men of honor, loyalty, and unwavering conviction—those who stand, fight, and, if necessary, fall for what is right and for those who cannot protect themselves. This story grips both heart and soul, moving you to tears, laughter, and deep admiration. Its quiet strength roars louder than words. Graham, a seemingly ordinary teacher with a perilous past, is thrust into a high-stakes action story woven with global conspiracies, human trafficking, and deeply personal risks. The contrast between intense, brutal action and his quiet, introspective moments highlights both his sharp humor and undeniable charm.
Of all the books I've read this year, this one stands out as one of the most soul-stirring and simply profound. The tagline, "Some teachers teach – others protect," encapsulates it perfectly. Graham, once a warrior, sought peace but understood that peace often comes with a price. And the men who stood beside him did so for the same reason: to do what was right—not for glory, but for justice and the innocent.
For a debut novel, this is an extraordinary achievement. I sincerely hope there’s more to come from this author. Well done—truly, deeply well done.
I had the incredible privilege of receiving an advance copy—and being the very first ARC reader for the author! Thank you Cliff - I will be reading more!!! Well done sir, well done!
Gritty, fast paced action thriller - stand aside Reacher, a new Lion is in town - Graham is here A very enjoyable action thriller, an easy page turner. If you enjoy Lee Child, David Baldacci or Adam Hamdy this book it right up your street, I'd definitely recommend it. The author has a nice fresh approach and style of writing, fast-paced and punchy which i really enjoy nowadays. The plot is full of twists and turns and covers issues which are quite dark at times, but relevant to today's society. The protagonist Graham is someone you would want on your side in a fight, a gritty British old-school military man, it was hard not to picture Jason Statham or even Idris Elba in this role whilst turning the pages. Either one of them would be awesome as Graham, I'd love to see that! A great first book in which I hope will be a continued series. Kept me gripped right to the last page. Well worth a look 👍
I've had a little trouble with this so it took me a bit longer to finish. I honestly almost didn't finish but I had already started and was at least curious who the 'bad guys' at the end was. I am one of those girls that I LOVE action flicks, action books, etc etc, BUT in the movies I know it's all Hollywood. They make the explosion huge and the 'good guys' that can always get up no matter how bad they are hurt. However, when reading a book, I'd rather it be more believable. As much as I loved Graham….and his team….it was too Hollywood movie for me. Some of it was just too much. And it made me not want to finish the book. BUT…..please keep in mind, this is my personal opinion. I do encourage people to pick it up and give it a try. There are a few triggers , if that's a thing for you. But try and see what you think.
The Quiet Lion is an amazingly well written testament to men of honor, fidelity, loyalty who protect, fight and die for right and the innocent. This book grips your hear and soul and you will cry and laugh and love at the quietness of its roar. This has to be one of the best soul wrenching simple books I have read this year. the tag line " Some teachers teach- others protect" said it all. Graham was a warrior at on time but wanted a quiet life but he always knew it might not be that easy and the men that came with him followed for the same reason to do what was right. It was done for victory and for the innocent. This author has achieved so much with this first book that I truly hope there are more to follow. Well done..truly well done.
This book seemed OK in the beginning but continued down the "stupid & not believable" direction. At a little over the 50% mark, it is almost unbearable. Typical toughest "guys on the planet" mentality. Were I in my late teens or early 20's, I would probably think this was a great book. I'm not and it's not. I doubt I'll be able to finish this stinker...
I finally gave up at the 56% mark. Incredibly lame book. I don’t recommend it unless you’re an 18 yr old male who has not made his way around the block yet…
This is an enjoyable read. Almost every sentence is written as if it should echo and sound profound. Oddly enough, it works. Parts of the plot are beyond belief. There are some inconsistencies, like the dog changing from a mutt to a Labrador to a golden retriever.
The story telling is really good. This keeps your attention all the way thru which isn’t unusual. You learn the characters & hold your breath for them, hoping that they win against evil. Is this really make believe?
The premise was good and it was a quick read. I wanted to finish and see what happened. I will read Clifford Shepherd next book and will enjoy I am sure.
