Sainted in Smoke & Honey

Rate this book
They met under dim lights and velvet sounds, where saxophones cried like old souls and time dared not interrupt. One look. One laugh. One night at the jazz lounge and Grim Saint Lucas knew he'd found the woman who made silence feel like music. Mahoganey Monroe didn't stand a chance. Her soul fell first... his followed with purpose.

He was everything she didn't want and all she ever needed a reformed street king wrapped in business suits and hard truths. She was the calm after his chaos, with honey on her tongue and grief in her bones. But timing? Timing was cruel.

And love? Love came with blood ties, past trauma, and secrets too heavy for fragile hearts.

Wow

I’m going to honest. The back and forth is the beginning was driving me insane. Grim was so sure, words so strong and powerful but actions when it got hard, he ran. Mahogany just ran from fear of it being too real, too raw. Then suddenly a tragedy and heartbreak brought them together beautifully.

This emotional roller coaster is written beautifully.

Book 2 of Shelf September.
Okay, let me just say this was my first dip into this author’s world and whew… that one kiss under the night sky? Sparks. Straight soul-tie energy wrapped in a little chaos. Grim and Henny had me from the jump. Two strangers vibing in a jazz lounge with low lights and smooth saxophone notes floating in the air. That whole setup screamed cinematic. Then the progression? Friends with depth, friends to lovers, and a sweet little forced proximity twist...I was here for it. And don’t even get me started on that skating rink scene or the one when oh boy walked in on them! The chemistry and disrespect was so loud, I had to giggle then pause. Grim claiming her as his wife even though sis was already cuffed? Toxic? Maybe. Addictive? Absolutely.

What really hit me was how this story leaned into the messy parts of love- grief, secrets, healing, and second chances. Grim… listen, that man was relentless about loving her. Tender, stubborn, and fully convinced she was his forever. And Henny- soft yet strong, grieving yet glowing, giving “I’m not ready but I can’t resist.” The peace and saftey Grim found in her. My heart. Together, they cracked, they bled, but never snapped. That ride was raw.

Special shoutout to Nyx- the best friend every girl deserves. Loyal, solid, and blessing their love after heartbrvibe-I need more of her from her POV because some promises were made & I'm invested.

Now, let me keep it a buck. I wanted to crown this a 5-star read. The passion, the declarations, the vibe- it fed me. But the POV switches sometimes had me lost, the cousin-brother thing didn’t sit right, and the last chunk felt like somebody slammed the fast-forward button. Add in typos and some choppy transitions, and yeah… my rating slid to 3.95.

Bottom line: not flawless, but soulful and magnetic. If you like your romance dipped in grit, grief, and hood-fairytale with healing energy, Grim and Henny’s story will keep you turning pages.
