Patrick and Brian don’t like the idea of ambushing any Indians. I explain what would happen to the women if those Indians were able to ambush us and kill the men. They finally agree to at least see if any Indians are following us. We get to the spot Thor and I picked out and set up a place where we can shoot from. I am paying attention to Thor and Rune. They will be the ones to smell and hear them first. We are not waiting very long when Thor and Rune both look to the direction, we are expecting them from.
It only takes a couple of minutes when we see the Indians coming toward our position. We are setup around a bend in the trail where we shouldn’t be seen until it is too late for them. We are watching them ride around the bend when my blood runs cold. The Indians have a young girl as a prisoner tied to one of the horses and she has a rope running from her to one of the braves.
Kate sees the girl and whispers to me that she knows that young lady. Her name is Molly, she was on the wagon train that kicked them off. I remind everyone that we will only get time for one shot so we have to make it count. Everyone knows which brave is theirs so to speak so on my signal we shoot. Just as the last brave gets around the bend the first man in line sees us and starts to get off his horse to take cover.
