"You Are Not Your Emotions" is a self-help book that aims to empower us to gain a healthier relationship with our feelings and achieve greater emotional intelligence and inner peace.

I picked up this book when I needed it the most. The book encourages us to observe emotions without judgement, Instead of immediately reacting or identifying with an emotion, the book advocates for acknowledging its presence and allowing it to pass, much like watching clouds drift by.
We saw our emotions as a signals which provide us information about our inner world or external circumstances that's why the goal of this book to understand what these messages are, rather than getting swept away by the feeling itself.

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

The book provides tools and techniques to manage emotional triggers, respond wisely instead of impulsively, and build resilience also by creating space between yourself and your emotions, you can gain a deeper understanding of your patterns, beliefs, and reactions.

When our heart feels so heavy that we don't what we are feeling or don't know whom to talk then this book is what we really need So If you are into non fiction then add this book on your tbr list, I know you gonna love it.

This is not just a book—it is a sanctuary for the soul, a lantern guiding you through the dense fog of emotional overwhelm.

With the gentleness of a monk and the wisdom of a healer, the author invites you to pause, breathe, and turn inward—not to control your emotions, but to befriend them.

Each of the 28 short chapters feels like a soft whisper to your wounded self: that you are not broken, merely buried beneath layers of unexpressed pain and misunderstood feelings.

The book doesn’t shout advice—it listens with you. It teaches that emotions aren’t wild storms to run from, but sacred messengers to welcome, understand, and release.

Emotions, here, become rivers—flowing, cleansing, and guiding you back home to yourself.

Have you ever wondered how your emotions work in conjunction with the nerves in your body? Or ever felt how emotions develop within you and influence significant aspects of your life as a consequence of your actions? "You are not your Emotions" by Modern Monk is a self-help book that provides an insightful understanding of handling emotions and their implications. Emotions are not a burden; rather, they serve as messengers that enable the body to communicate with hormones. The stigma and dilemma surrounding emotions often seen as a sign of weakness that affects our actions have been transformed into a tool for effectively addressing life’s challenges.

One of the great provision of this book is the maturity of the author's psychological understanding and handling them accordingly. Emotions are so powerful if one knows the technique to deal with it.

✨ If anyone would ask me which book will be short, precise and help us to understand emotions tackling methods then I will surely recommend this book. It's a book which I finished @ 2 AM and it moved me to another level.

✨ This book acted as a mentor, as a teacher and as a therapist too for me. I am a person who suffers in silence, whenever I disappoint anyone or get angry the immediate thought in my head is 'I am too much to handle', there are moments when I feel that 'I feel too much and too deeply.

✨Ok... A small deep talk- One day after my graduation day, through one of my friends I got to know that people think "I am too attached. It's not good that every small thing affects me." And honestly I felt bad (I still do sometimes) because I am a person who actually gets attached to people. And once I get attached, I notice every small thing and I also address that. But people found it too much to handle. It took me a lot of time to get ok with that thought.

✨ But thanks @modernmonk.books to write this book. A book which consoled me, healed me and told me that it's ok to feel deeply, attachment is fine and made me feel stronger for the person I am.

✨ It's just a book of 75 pages but what experience it was!! The way the author has given insights made the book very interesting and impactful. The book is divided into 6 sections consisting of 27 chapters. Each chapter is well written and kept to the point. The author has kept it short but impactful.

✨ If you are like me who overthinks their emotions a lot, feels they are too much to handle, and wants reassurance on your emotions then this is your pick!! You won't be disappointed.

🍀Book- You are not your emotions
🍀 Author - Modern Monk
🍀Review -
Stay strong,” “Don’t cry,” “Control your anger,” “Keep smiling.”
Since childhood, we’ve heard these phrases repeatedly. We listen to our elders and try to be strong—or at least pretend to be. No matter the storms in our minds, we often wear a smile and act like warriors.
But how right is this approach? Is it normal to suppress what we feel? Are there consequences to constantly bottling up our emotions?
This book dives deep into human emotions and the importance of understanding them. In many real-life situations, expressing sadness, anxiety, or vulnerability is seen as a weakness. But the author challenges this view, reminding us that emotions aren’t enemies to conquer or flaws to fix. Instead, they are vital parts of our identity, helping us understand what matters, what needs care, and what requires healing.

The book is divided into 28 chapters, each guiding us closer to understanding our emotions, mastering our inner world, building emotional strength, and beginning the journey of healing. It emphasizes that emotional intelligence is a powerful tool for finding inner peace. Through simple yet impactful real-life examples, the author illustrates how we can acknowledge our feelings without being overwhelmed by them. The book also highlights the slow, gradual process of healing and encourages us not to fight our emotions but to listen to them with compassion. Vulnerability is not something to be ashamed of—in fact, it is a gateway to deeper self-awareness and self-care.

You are not Your Emotions by Modern Monk

In the modern world where emotions are overpowering and often cloud our decision-making , this book helps one navigate one through the storms of emotions and emerge calm and serene.

The author starts by helping one understand the true meaning of emotions. In this he discusses that emotions are signals of one’s inner being. He asks the reader to accept their emotions as an integral part of being a human and improve their relationship with them. From not suppressing them to understanding the root cause behind them , the author helps the reader comprehend emotions deeply.

In the next part , the author guides the reader to master their inner self. In this section , the author encourages the reader to be aware of their emotions and not be reactive in their approach. The most important message for me in this section was that not every emotional response needs fixing and healing doesnot mean being devoid of emotions.

In the subsequent parts , the author motivates the reader to develop resilience to emotional response by positive self talk and embracing discomfort. In the next section , the author writes about healing and living freely. Lastly he provides daily practices to develop emotional wisdom and strengthen emotional resilience.

This book is a helpful read in the contemporary world where the immense waves of emotions submerge our rationality and fogs our reason. A simple and elegant read which will surely help the generation of today to steer through this tumultuous world.

An intimate guide to healing, resilience, and reclaiming inner peace, one emotion at a time

There comes a point when the mind feels cluttered and the heart carries more weight than it should. In such moments, we don’t seek advice; we long for quiet clarity. This book by the author delivers exactly that: a simple, soothing guide that gently peels back the noise and reminds us that what we feel is not what we are.

This compact book, with fewer than 100 pages, carries 25 meaningful lessons designed to help you step back from emotional chaos and see your feelings from a place of calm awareness. Rather than trying to fix or suppress what you feel, it teaches you how to observe, accept, and gently release.

You don’t need to be an expert in meditation or mental health to connect with its message. With friendly language and an almost conversational tone, the author brings emotional intelligence within everyone’s reach. You learn how to respond instead of react, how to stop identifying with every wave of emotion, and how to return to a grounded sense of self.

The bond between thoughts, self-talk, and emotions is handled with sensitivity and insight. Each reflection is practical, relatable, and comforting, perfect for anyone dealing with overthinking, anxiety, or emotional overwhelm.

What makes this book transformative is not just what it teaches but how it makes you feel while reading it: seen, understood, and capable of change.

If you’re looking for a quiet reset or a deeper connection with your emotional well-being, this book is a short but powerful journey worth taking.

"You are Not Your Emotions" by Modern Monk is not another self-help tome, but rather a warm-hearted guide to rethinking our relationship with our inner lives. The book masterfully argues that emotions are not issues to be solved, but rather messengers to be interpreted. That shift in perspective is the key to the 25 life-altering observations presented between its covers, designed to guide readers through everything from fear and rage to happiness with greater mindfulness.

With brief, potent chapters, the author offers a balance of confrontational truths, therapeutic reflections, and practical practices. Readers are led to comprehend and manage emotional triggers, cease over-identification with hurt or insecurity, and develop inner strength through awareness of self. The focus is on making room for healing, growth, and kindness toward oneself, ultimately leading us to respond wisely rather than react impulsively.

What makes this book unique is that it's a soft yet deep approach. It doesn't require you to become another person, but to connect with the peaceful, assured, and emotionally balanced version of yourself that you already are. If you want to live with greater clarity, confidence, and true emotional freedom, "You Are Not Your Emotions" is a thought-provoking and empowering place to begin.

This book is like a therapy session. It enlightens you, de-mistifies the myths around our emotions and reminds us to be humans again who have an array of emotions. It is a gentle reminder that society has demonized crying, anger, fear, etc while they're simple messages thay our mind is trying to convey to us. They're nothing but mere responses to the stimulus.
This books reminds us that "sensitivity is not a sign of weakness. It is a sign of being alive, aware, and connected". Suppressing emotions is equivalent to suffering and this suffering will one day erupt like an active volcano destroying everything (physical, emotional & mental health) simply because we fell for the trap that bravery is in suppression of emotions.
It also throws light on the power of our thoughts and self talk. We become what we think hence we're not a prisoner of our thoughts but masters. Our self talk builds our belief systems which trigger emotions.
It is also a workbook that will step by step take you through the process of mastering your emotions rather than being victims of the same. You'll feel a shift in yourself once you finish reading this book. It will feel like rebirth. You will reinvent yourself in a more productive way. This is a transformational read indeed.

Felt like a warm hug in book form

Reading You Are Not Your Emotions by Modern Monk felt like sitting down with a friend who truly understands what you’re going through. It doesn’t preach or overwhelm—it gently speaks to you, reminding you that it’s okay to feel things deeply, but you don’t have to let those feelings control your life.

The book is simple, clear, and beautifully written. The short chapters make it easy to go through, and yet every single one feels meaningful. It’s packed with small, powerful lessons that make you pause and reflect. I found myself underlining so many lines because they felt so real and personal.

What I loved most is how it reassures you that you're not broken. That emotions like sadness, fear, or anger are part of being human, and with the right tools, you can work through them and come out stronger.

By the time I finished it, I felt lighter—like someone had finally put into words everything I’d been feeling. If you’ve been overthinking, feeling lost, or just craving a bit of inner peace, please pick this up.

This book is a gentle companion you’ll want to return to again and again. I didn’t just read it—I felt it. And it helped me start healing in ways I didn’t expect.

It is more than a book, it serves as a manual to achieve inner tranquility and advance in life regardless of the emotions you experience!

Embrace, Don't escape

You Are Not Your Emotions by Modern Monk
Is a softer kind of soul therapy on our perceptions and dealings with emotions, life affirming, this precious thought lan guided with wisdom and heart in less than 90 pages, stands to teach us that anger, sadness, anxiety, and even fear are important messengers; however, they are not the definition of who we are. With 25 actions addressing the chaos of emotionality, offering different ways to think about negative self-talk, and finding a calm sense of inner strength and resilience, the exercises adopt an empowering workbook style. The voice, at once empathetic, is like having a beautiful conversation with an introspective friend reassuring you that it is okay to feel yet do not get lost in the feeling. The book stands for contributing towards differentiation between mindful awareness and suppressive ignorance-and viewing sensitivity as an asset towards nurturing togetherness and belonging. So whether your goal is comprehension, healing, or simply less chaos in a mind, then something within these pages will greet you at your ground and spur you on in charting a new journey towards yourself.

Emotions are not your enemies. They are signals from within..

This book invites you to stop surviving your emotions and start understanding them.

My addiction had been waiting for me patiently all this time, like a faithful dog.

I just finished this book and also loving the book . This is self help book that can change your life of emotions, feelings and mindset. This book will know you about your inner emotions, feelings. How to treat emotions? In this book's chapter in ending there are many questions for you that you will ask to your self then you can know about your emotions, feelings.
Pay attention to how you describe your emotions.
Instead of saying, "I am anxious," try saying, "I am feeling anxious right now, but this will pass."
This small shift in language creates a big shift in perspective. It reminds you that emotions are just states, not identities.
Emotions are waves. You are the shore they wash against

There are many thoughts related to our emotions and feelings.

Emotions are not something you fix by force. They are something you understand through attention.

Sometimes, a book finds you exactly when you need it and for me, You Are Not Your Emotions was that book.

This self-help read gently guides you into building a healthier relationship with your feelings. What stood out to me was how it emphasized observing emotions without judgment. Instead of immediately reacting or identifying with what we feel, the book encourages us to acknowledge emotions as they are temporary, like clouds drifting by.

It helped me realize that our emotions are not enemies or flaws; they’re signals. Messages from within, offering insight into our inner or external realities. The true takeaway is learning to understand what these emotional signals mean, rather than being overwhelmed by them.

I appreciated the tools it provided practical ways to manage triggers, respond thoughtfully, and cultivate emotional resilience. Creating that mental space between “me” and my emotions made a real difference in how I process things now.

This is the kind of book I’d recommend when your heart feels heavy, when everything inside feels tangled and unexplainable. If you’re into non fiction and emotional well being, this is a must add to your TBR.

Reading this book felt like sitting with a friend who calmly helps you untangle everything you've been feeling. It offers clarity in a world that often teaches us to hide our feelings, framing emotions not as flaws but as signals , natural responses to the life we're living. It genuinely confronts the idea that tears and fears make us weak , reminding us that they're just the expression of a deeply alive and aware mind.

One of it's most powerful messages is that sensitivity isn't something to be ashamed of. Infact, it's a sign that we are connected to ourselves and to the world around us. When we bottle everything up calling ourselves strong , we unknowingly invite emotional chaos later . The book shows how that internal pressure , if left unnoticed can damage our well-being in ways we don't even know until it's too late to cure.

It also says how our inner dialogues shape our entire experience. What we tell ourselves becomes our REALITY. After I completed reading this book, I felt much better and l learnt alot about how to handle emotions as if I had finally given myself the permission to feel everything without blaming myself.

I highly recommend this book.

A gentle and helpful book.

This book is like a calm friend talking to you about your feelings. It explains that emotions like sadness, anger, and fear are normal, and it’s okay to feel them. But it also teaches you that you don’t have to let these emotions control your life.

I really liked how the author writes in simple words. The chapters are short and easy to read, but the message is deep. The book reminds you that you are not broken. Your emotions are just messages trying to tell you something.

It also has helpful exercises to understand your feelings better. Instead of fighting your emotions or hiding them, it teaches you to listen to them kindly.

Reading this book felt soothing. It’s perfect for anyone who is feeling overwhelmed, stressed, or wants to know themselves better. After finishing it, I felt more peaceful and clear in my mind.

I recommend it to anyone who wants to learn to handle emotions in a healthy way. This book is a comforting guide that you can come back to whenever you need it.gentle and helpful book.

A gentle guide to emotional peace.

You Are Not Your Emotions by Modern Monk is a soft, calming read that truly stays with you. It teaches a powerful truth in the simplest way: your emotions are not who you are.

We often let sadness, anger, or anxiety take over and forget that we are more than how we feel. This book gently reminds you that it’s okay to feel everything—but you don’t have to let those feelings control your life.

The language is simple, the chapters are short, and the message is deep. It feels like talking to a friend who really gets you. You don’t need to be an expert in mindfulness to understand it—just open to feeling better and more peaceful.

Have you ever felt that some of our emotions have no reasoning behind, as to why you are feeling them? Don’t we all. Whenever we try to understand someone, we usually derive our conclusions based on their reactions in that particular moment and that somehow becomes their entire identity, and vice versa. Somehow, that becomes the way people define us and most of the time we also define them. When you read this book you will realize the same.

But what intrigued me about this book was how the author in a very simple way explains that our emotions are not the basis for defining any being on this planet. It’s a short and impactful read that you can experience, in your short lunch break or a tea time discussion. The author has also shared a simple exercise in this book that you can take up to understand your emotions and embrace them. How you can analyze your emotions, the deep rooted cause of those recurring feelings and understand the pattern behind them.

This isn’t just a book—it’s a quiet, powerful mirror.
You Are Not Your Emotions gently reminds us that feeling deeply isn’t weakness—it’s human. And more importantly, it’s okay.

Rather than drowning you in generic advice or surface-level motivation, the book goes deeper. It helps you understand where your emotions stem from, how to sit with them without fear, and how to stop letting them define who you are.

What truly sets this book apart is the tone—it’s not preachy or distant. It reads like a wise, grounded friend saying, “Hey, I see you. You’re not broken. Let’s work through this together.”

It offers reflection, not perfection. Clarity, not pressure. And above all, self-compassion.

If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed by your emotions or judged yourself too harshly for feeling too much, this book will feel like a much-needed exhale.

✨ “Feelings are meant to be felt, not feared.”
Let this book help you believe that—gently, one page at a time.

This book helped me understand my emotions better. I always felt guilty or bad when I could not feel the same emotions as others in some situations. But through this book, I realized the truth. We are just humans, and there is no good or bad emotion. It’s just what we feel, and we shouldn't feel fear.

It taught me a lot. Embracing our emotions and accepting how they are. “My emotions are valid. My depth is my strength. I do not need to harden myself to be strong.” My favorite lines from the book, and it’s absolutely true. And yes, instead of feelings, our emotions are too sensitive, too emotional, or more prone to feeling deeply than others....we need to accept them.

Every word in the book is relatable and true. It shows how to heal, stop judging our feelings, and notice them without any shame.
Those feelings are experiences—not everything. It’s just how we felt then, not what we are.

This book is not just about emotional intelligence, it’s about emotional healing. It teaches you to stop fearing your feelings and start listening to them instead.

We are often taught to suppress, ignore, or judge our emotions. But this book flips the script. It reminds you that:
• Your triggers are teachers, not threats.
• Emotional strength is a skill - built, not born.
• Healing begins when you stop pretending you are “fine.”
• Self-talk is powerful - it shapes your reality.

It doesn’t offer overnight magic. Instead, it guides you gently- one breath, one response, one moment at a time.

If you have ever felt like you were “too emotional” or “too sensitive,” this book will show you your emotions are not a weakness - they are your greatest superpower.

Highly recommended for anyone on a healing journey, especially those working through anxiety, burnout, or self-doubt. A book I’ll keep returning to again and again.

I actually felt that this book was one of MUST READ to me. After reading "You are not your Emotion" i was reminded that feeling deeply is not my weakness, its part of Being Human.

I found the writing simple and gentle but yet having powerful message within. It didn't tried to "FIX" Me instead it helped me to understand my emotions without judging myself. I really liked how the author explained that emotions are not who we are rather they’re experiences we go through.

While reading, I felt like i was sitting with my dear ones making me believe that "You are not alone in this."

Some Lines from book which really stayed with me:
- Every time you sit with an uncomfortable emotion, you grow your capacity.
- You are not starting over. You are starting from experience.

If you are a big overthinker like you are getting dictated by someone else rather than listening to yourself then this book is made for you. Its an incredible book if you go deep in it you will realize that the moment you start listening to your inner seeing all the signs which your body gives you physically , mentally and emotionally plus you act on it like being consistent taking care of yourself . You will definitely see how beautifully you can tackle things which you used to find tooo difficult or confusing. Its a small book which can play such big impacts in your life because knowing yourself should be the first step in your self love journey . If you starts seeing and listening to your feelings and emotions only then you can see and feel what's happening around your without being tricked or target.

I will recommend this book who wants therapy because it will work sameee.

‘You Are Not Your Emotions’ is a short, fast-paced book divided into 28 concise chapters, each designed to help us better understand and master our emotions.

Reading this book feels like sitting with a wise friend. Instead of simply surviving our emotions, it gently guides us to start understanding them.

What I love about this book is how practical, intentional, empowering, and accessible it is. It’s highly recommended for anyone looking for practical, effective, and quick tools to manage everyday stress, or for those wanting to build emotional intelligence in a simple, approachable way.

This book isn’t about fixing yourself, it’s about reclaiming yourself.

I highlighted so many quotes while reading, but my favorite would be:

“You do not need to be fixed. You need to be understood. And more importantly, you need to understand yourself.”
