The Mage's Stone is book two in The Amaria Chronicles. The first book took me by surprise. I was so engrossed in the story, reading most of it in one sitting. I loved the characters, the world, the magic. It was the kind of fantasy novel that made me first fall in love with fantasy as a genre. Going into book two, all I wanted was for the story to continue with that same momentum. I didn't need to worry, because I ended up loving The Mage's Stone even more than The Mender's Curse.

Despite being a more traditional fantasy, Abby Anne Korver does so many things that are so fresh and unique. Sapphira is a powerful mage, but she doesn't come into her true power until much later in life. She's an adult and has lived through absolute hell as a courtesan in the city. There is an instinctual element to her handling of magic, but she is not a natural, and she is strongly influenced by her trauma and her emotions. The power is there, but the application is wild and chaotic. She struggles to hone her gifts, training with a mage younger than herself. I love this, because it is realistic! She has the innate power to usher the rebellion to victory, if only she can learn to control it. No teenage, perfect at everything hero here!

All the characters are deeply flawed in some way. They have been failed by their family, by society, or by circumstance. Asa is dealing with his grief. Oz is determined to not let his disability define him. Liam is learning what it means to live after spending so long wishing he could die. Sapphira is overcoming her pain. The character growth in these pages is superb and, again, realistic. It's not sudden. It's not pretty. Healing is messy and gradual. Mistakes are made along the way, but that also makes it so much more satisfying when the walls start to come down.

As someone who reads a lot of romantasy, I also really appreciate that the romance takes more of a backseat in this story. It's there, but there is a lot of coming to terms with feelings. We see characters forming strong emotional bonds instead of acting on attraction. It makes more sense for the story the way events unfurl than trying to force intimacy. I still love my romance books, but this was a nice change of pace.

Thank you to the author. I am so grateful to have been able to read an ARC for The Mage's Stone, and I cannot wait until the release of The Bard's Song. Oz is my favorite character, so I can almost guarantee that I'm going to love that one, too.

This was a wonderful sequel to The Amaria Chronicles! This fantasy had good battling evil, strong friendships, and new alliances. The magic comes from powerful mages, menders potions, and the runes of ancient people. There is a slow burn romance subplot as Sapphira deals with past trauma and learns to trust Liam. I cried quite a bit throughout the book, especially during Asa's grief, giggled mainly at Oz's banter, and was shocked at the few twists. Being transported back into their epic adventure was wonderful!
When Sapphira and her friends travel to join the rebels and fight the Republic, they battle an evil that they don't understand. With new allies they learn to strengthen their own powers and rely on each other. As she uses Cairo's ring the evil embedded in it starts to corrupt her own magic.
Will they be able to defeat the evil that threatens their world? Will Sapphira be able to trust her friends, both old and new? Will she lose herself to the darkness forever?
I received an ARC with no expectation of a review.
All opinions are my own.

The Mage’s Stone by Abby Anne Korver is an absolute gem in the fantasy genre. What stands out most is how Korver continues to expand her magic system, layer by layer, she builds something that feels both inventive and natural, giving readers a sense of wonder with every new reveal. It’s not just window dressing either—the magic directly influences the world, the stakes, and the characters in a way that feels vital and original.

Speaking of characters, the development here is next level. You don’t just watch them grow, you feel their struggles, triumphs, and heartbreaks as if you’re right there beside them. Korver has a knack for making her characters multidimensional, and by the time you reach the climax, you can’t help but be invested in their fates.

The way she ties all the threads together toward the ending is masterful, questions get answered, connections fall into place, yet you’re left with just enough longing to crave the third installment immediately. While not a flawless book, it’s one that leaves a lasting impression, and for fans of character-driven fantasy with a truly unique magic system, The Mage’s Stone is a must-read.

4.5/5 stars

The scope widens in this second book; more politics, more danger, more moving pieces, but it remains deeply grounded in its characters. Sapphira, Liam, Oz, and Asa continue to be the emotional center of the story, and watching each of them wrestle with grief, guilt, and self-worth is what makes this series so compelling.

These characters feel so REAL. They’re flawed, often hurting each other even as they try to heal, and Korver doesn’t shy away from showing how messy that process can be. Asa’s grief, Liam’s shame over his lost magic, Oz’s struggle with what heroism looks like through the lens of disability, and Sapphira’s tangled emotions toward both her power and Liam, it’s all so complex. The growth here isn’t sudden or clean, but it’s earned, and that makes it all the more satisfying.

That said, my biggest gripe lies in the romantic ambiguity. There are definite emotional connections and hints of intimacy, but the fade-to-black moments happen so early that it’s genuinely hard to tell if certain relationships have crossed that line or not. Are they together-together, or just circling each other endlessly? The character work is so strong that the vagueness in the romance feels like a missed opportunity to add even more emotional depth.

I’ll admit, I missed the quest-like intimacy of the first book. The focus here shifts toward building alliances and setting the stage for larger conflicts, which means less time spent in the tight-knit, character-heavy moments I loved so much. It makes sense given the rising stakes, but it does change the tone.

Still, this isn’t just another fantasy series with magic and rebellion, it’s one that prioritizes people, their pain, and their capacity to keep choosing each other even when everything around them is falling apart.

Thank you to the author for the complimentary copy. This review is voluntary and all opinions are my own.

I enjoyed reading this book and seeing how the story developed from book one. This series has developed a real high fantasy feel to it and reminds me of the style of The Wheel of Time or The Witcher. If you’re looking for romance - it’s hinted at in the background but is not the main storyline. The whole story unfolds at a slower pace than I’m used to but I found this a really refreshing change as there is a lot to take in and lots of character arcs to follow. The information surrounding the world and magic is layered very cleverly.
I love the main set of characters in this book - they are flawed, grieving, processing their own traumas in different ways - yet they have become family and look after each other. The character development throughout the book is great and has a realistic feel to it - these are well rounded characters with depth.
We get multiple povs throughout the book so this allows a better insight into each characters thoughts and actions. I liked the introduction of the new characters in this book. Kat and Cecilia are both really interesting and I look forward to seeing how they fit into the story going forward.
I loved the change of pace with the battle scenes - they had me on the edge of my seat.
Looking forward to book 3 - The Bard’s Song.
A huge thank you to Abby Anne Korver for the chance to read an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own and honestly/voluntarily given.

“The Mage’s Stone” is the book where “The Amaria Chronicles” really becomes a series. “The Mender’s Curse” set the table and presented the appetizer. “The Mage’s Stone” is, in my opinion, the main course.

Everything is bigger in book 2. The lore and world building is massively expanded, especially concerning magic, mending, and the Yernish tribes. The stakes are inarguably higher, the character relationships are deeper, and you’re guaranteed to hate the villain, Cairo, far more than the first book.

I absolutely adore the new characters, particularly the fire-wielding Mage Commander, Kat. Cecilia is also incredibly intriguing, and quite frankly, terrifying.

This novel kind of reminds me a bit of The Two Towers in a way. Our heroes spent most of their time together in the first book, and this time around, they spend some time splintered. As with TTT, there is an escalating excitement for a battle that you know is coming, but have no idea how it’s going to play out. Once the action of the third act rolls out, it’s 100+ pages of reading on the edge of your seat! I’m not a fast reader by any means, but I ripped through the last 10 or so chapters in no time at all.

While the plot is expertly woven through multiple points of view, and the world building is rich and well thought out, neither is the greatest strength in Korver’s writing. Every detail of the scenery, setting, character’s physicality, and ignition of the senses is brilliantly crafted. This is insanely high-level writing, especially from someone who is so early in their author career. As a writer myself, I’m jealous of the rich descriptive prose that seems that flow through every paragraph. It’s really a beautiful piece of writing that teases the line between commercial and literary fiction.

Another improvement from book 1 to book 2 was the level of continuity. Abby is intentionally leaving a trail of breadcrumbs throughout this book that are setting up the story moving forward. There are dire consequences for the choices made by our heroes that immediately raise the stakes for book 3 in a way I didn’t feel after reading book 1. The last line of the book is one of those delicious W-T-F moments that has me craving the third book in this series! It’s sooooo good!

There are a lot of great fantasy series out there, and in my opinion, “The Amaria Chronicles” is among the upper echelon. Do not miss out on this one!

The journey that began in Abby's Mender's Curse is continuing in The Mage's Stone, Book 2 of the Amaria Chronicles. Where will it take you?

It will lead you down a path of hurt and healing, loss and pain, love and friendship. It will take you on a path of righteousness. A path of battle. Of victories and defeats.

The Mage’s Stone reveals both the light and the darkness dwelling in people’s hearts and minds. It uncovers the inner demons and traumas they carry within, cutting open those wounds and searching for ways to heal them.

No one is immune to threats, whether internal or external. Sapphira, Liam, Oz, and Asa each struggle in their own ways, alone and together. Yet the moments when they come together as the perfectly imperfect family they are, the moments of love and support, are what make this story so powerful.

A war is brewing. Battles are inevitable. Villains rise but rarely fall (yet). But fall they will, and when they do, it will be glorious to witness.

So, join us. Join Sapphira, Liam, Oz, and Asa. Join Kat, Mischa, and the rebels. Join us on the quest to break the chains of oppression once and for all. Join us in the fight for justice and equality. We're not going anywhere.

Thank you, Abby, for welcoming me once again onto the ARC team and allowing me to walk beside you on this journey. It's an honor I will cherish for a long time to come.

The Mage’s Stone is book 2 of the Amaria Chronicles. In the first book you will fall in love with the characters, the world, and the magic. The ending of book 1 the Mender’s curse has you so engrossed that you just want to keep going and The Mage’s Stone did not disappoint. It picks up right where book 1 ends and it immediately engages your interest and keeps it throughout the duration.

All of the characters in the story are lovable and deeply flawed in some way. Sapphira is a gifted mage who came into her power later in life. Because of this her magic is chaotic and unpredictable at times. It is influenced greatly by her emotions and traumatic background. Liam is now learning to live life without immortality and magic. Oz lives with his disability and daily pain struggles. Asa is deeply settled in grief from the loss of his loved one and trying to find his way forward.

This book focuses on the plot of the story with a small hint of romance. These characters develop deep, emotional bonds with each other while growing from their own personal traumas. It is truly an example of found family. I look forward to finding out how the story continues in The Bard’s Song.

I loved The Mender's Curse, it's by far my favorite indie author's book. I loved the characters, the magic system, the pacing, just everything about it. But this one took everything I loved in the first book and just turned it up to 11.

The story in The Mage's Stone was great. It took the 4 protagonists from the first book and really delved into each character so much more. Plus added some new characters that were talked about in the first book, but really went into them a lot more thoroughly.

One of my favorite things that Abby does in her books is the way she goes about writing romance. It takes its time. It's intentional, deliberate, and well thought out. For me, too many modern books just rush into it, and it's just all about the spicy scenes. But her characters are cautious and do not want to be hurt. It feels more real that way.

The action is incredible in this one. So many good action sequences, and I thought the first one was really good in that regard. This one is so much better. Plus there were a lot of plot twists that I did not see coming, which is always fun.

I highly recommend picking this one up. Now I'm just bummed that I have to wait till the third book, lol.

Love coming back to this found family!

The Mage's Stone is a story of trauma, acceptance, war and once again their beautiful found family. If this story is going to teach you anything, it would be how stronger they can be together. Having their friendships will help them work through their grief and trauma.

This installment has a steady pacing and a lot of action. The world building is conscise and detailed. Just what we need to understand what is happening in the story and the Mage's background. The characters are all working through their pain and complex emotions, while trying to fight the evil that is lurking in the shadows. And we get new alliances and perspectives in this installment that we'll probably see more on the next book. The plot keeps you invested in the story and the small twists the author sprinkles through the story keeps you on high alert.

Thank you Abby Anne Korver for the opportunity to read the sequel to The Amaria Chronicles. I loved every second of this story and can't wait for the next one!

This is a solid 4.75 stars from me, rounded up to 5.

I enjoy the multi POV, getting to see what is going on with each of the characters around the same time. The story still progresses even when we’re seeing from a character not currently with the rest of the group. I like that when another strong MC joined, that they also began getting chapters.

There is so much character development in this book. This is a romantasy, but it’s so much more than that. It’s a very slow burn, enemies to friends, maybe to lovers. Normally I want spice in my books, but with the depth of this story I wasn’t missing it.

This book is about Liam overcoming his trauma to learn how to care for others. It’s about Asa working through grief. It’s about Saphira learning to trust, both potential romantic partners and herself. It’s about Oz learning his value. It’s about meeting Kat and her finding someone she can be herself with, someone who doesn’t judge her.

I haven’t fully decided who my favorite character is yet. I feel like Kat is going to take the lead. I tend to gravitate more towards the female prickly and misunderstood characters.

In any case I can’t wait to read the next one. There was a twist at the end that I didn’t see coming, and I cannot wait to learn more about it.

This was such an emotional read and I loved it!!

I was shocked by some of the twists here, the found family was literally so perfect and I knew without a doubt that each character would die for the other.

The world building is incredible. I’m just in awe of the magic system. And I love that you see the characters strengths and weaknesses throughout the books—especially for Sapphira.

Each character had depth, even the new characters that had been introduced. And Asa’s grief—omg my heart broke for him 💔. And Sapphira, I was right there with her as she struggled with her past while learning to control her magic.

Liam—omg Liam 😭!! I can’t say anything without spoilers but I understood his fears and I know he was only trying to protect Sapphira.

The Bard’s Song is next. I love Oz. I could tell he was the brightest light here and yet he’s fighting his own demons too. I love him and Kat, and I truly hope he comes to see the strength he possesses that others see, but he doesn’t see in himself.

Let’s just start with this is the sequel to The Mender’s Curse. Sapphira, Liam, Oz and Asa had returned to Yernet in hopes of saving Asa’s wife. This book starts out four months following the end of book 1. Let’s also just come to the conclusion that Oz is the best and the much needed character to balance Liam and Sapphira. This is a great sequel with character development and gives us further understanding of the choices that were and are being made. It truly is magnificent to read and hear the internal battle that Oz has with himself continuously about his circumstances and his disability. His strength is amazing. I will say I did find myself way more annoyed with Sapphira in this book than the last. For someone that’s an older FMC, her thinking and dialogue felt like it belonged to someone a decade younger than her. For someone that has gone through so much, I didn’t want to also imagine her as younger than she was. I didn’t like hearing from Asa and Kat but greatly wanted more. It was almost enough to feel satisfying.

I received this as an advanced reader copy for free and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

I enjoyed this book as the second book to the menders curse. The story progressed nicely in this book and the character development and depth is great! It definitely started out with a pretty slow pace for the first half but definitely picked up in the second half and was worth the read in the end. It was refreshing to see a character with magic like saphira who doesn’t have it all together, she has to train to hone her magic and struggles through a lot of it. There are some very interesting characters introduced In this book that I really hope to see more of! Overall a good book!

I really love Oz’s character and was very excited to see that the next book will be centered around him! I hope to see more of Kat and of Cecelia as well.

Big thanks to the author for providing this book as an Advanced Readers Copy in exchange for an honest review.

The second installment in Abby Anne Korver’s Amaria Chronicles continues everything that I enjoyed about the first book (The Mender’s Stone). After a slow moving start to reestablish where our characters are, things ramp up quickly.

There is way more magic (and descriptions of the magic system and how it works) in this book. There is way more action (once things get rolling). And the character building is deeper. While this has tinges of romantasy, it’s subtle and more focused on emotional depth and relationship building. Korver really shows the reader just how deep the main character’s friendships have become. It’s also nice to see a main character close to my age instead of the usual coming of age trope.

The Mage’s Stone is more enjoyable and fast paced than the first book. Despite the satisfying ending, there’s enough left open to have me looking forward to the next installment.

Thank you so much Abby for the opportunity to have been an ARC reader 🫶🏽 The Mage’s Stone was a fantastic sequel to The Mender’s Curse! Abby did such an amazing job picking up right where book 1 ends. Every character’s story was their own to tell, and Abby did a wonderful job in allowing them to have their own moment while still creating a steady pace and transition. The magic system is so unique in its ability to build upon itself. I loved how the plot twist was so unexpected yet it gave way to the perfect opportunity for a re-read just to catch all the bread crumbs Abby snuck in throughout both The Mage’s Stone and The Mender’s Curse!! I’m so excited for The Bard’s Song. I just know Abby is going to make it the most special book to date!!

The Mages stone had me squealing, crying, gasping and giggling with glee!

Abby is an AMAZING story teller! The intimacy, the yearning, the growth of characters just has me rooting for each of our protagonists! I’m so grateful for the gift of being able to arc read for her!

The struggle and war internally for each of our protagonists, doing something considered heinous on the name of protecting the ones they love— just speaks to the humanity for each of them. Experiencing their joy, their hope, their fear, navigating loss… I cannot wait until the next installment.

This is a must read! This is a no spice fantasy with romance and intimacy built in—true love and connection of soul and mind. I will recommend this book forever ❤️‍🔥

This high fantasy read? I really enjoyed it. The world building continues to be awesome and definitely immersive ✨ the writing flows beautifully, and the story itself is truly captivating. I can’t wait to see what other turns and twists await us in the next one.

Now, Characters!
I loved seeing all the growth from book one + the addition of new POVs and characters 🤌🏻 was such a nice touch. My favorite so far? Without a doubt, Oz! 🩶

That said .. I struggled a little bit to fully connect with Shapphira 🥹 this time around (definitely a me thing), but her development was still great.

Overall, this was an entertaining and enjoyable read, it’s perfect for anyone who loves adventures and epic fantasy stories!

P.S. Can we please get more of Bo-Hai and Asa? 👀

With Love,

Korver has done it again!!

The POV of each character has you on their individual journeys. Yes they travel together, most of the time, but they each have a destination planned for the future. Oz is still my favorite! I hope one day he gets the cure he thinks he doesn’t need. If anyone deserves it, it’s him. I adore Kat! She’s so strong willed but has found some to let her walls down with. Liam and Sapphira are FINALLY giving into their feelings and I am SO here for it.
And Asa, oh Asa 🥹 this man deserves to see Jie one last time. I swear if he doesn’t I’m gonna RIOT!

If you like fantasy adventures that have LoTR vibes then this series is for you!!

Thank you Abby for my ARC copy and being on your ARC team. I love this series and can’t wait for more about my favorite character 🤭

he Mage’s Stone by Abby Anne Korver is a strong and captivating continuation of The Mender’s Curse. This installment brings back the characters we’ve come to love and deepens their journeys in meaningful ways. They’re flawed, broken, and still healing. It is the realness of the characters that captivates the readers. They may be broken, but they are also fierce, determined, dedicated, devoted, and impossible not to root for.

What stood out most to me was the balance of hope and struggle. The Mage faces not only a powerful external evil but also her own shadows, and watching her wrestle with both made the story feel both classic and fresh. We also learn more about the Mender’s curse and the results of what happened in the first story.
Korver delivers all the hallmarks of timeless fantasy. The quests and magic are high stakes. Abby is able to keep it grounded in emotional growth and resilience.

This is a zero-spice, character-driven fantasy that leans into adventure, healing, and the fight for light in the midst of darkness. Perfect for readers who love traditional fantasy with heart.

The brilliant sequel to The Mender’s Curse, and in my opinion even better than book 1! With new characters added to the story the plot is very dynamic, with plenty of plot twists and an engaging story line. I really enjoyed getting to explore Oz’s character more thoroughly, as well as watching Liam and Sapphira develop and grow, and loved having a more mature female main character. The magic system is intricate and interesting, as is the world we’re gradually introduced to. A thoroughly recommended read!

Thank you Abby Anne Korver for letting me arc read your book.

I had to play catch up with book one, The Mender's Curse. I am glad I was turned to these books. Just an amazing world to be in. The magic sets the world up and doesn't let it fall. I am so invested in the characters to the point I dream of being one of them. Definitely going to re-read both to find more bread crumbs to get ready for the next book. . Just fantastic!!

In this sequel, we continue the journey but focus more on Sapphira’s story. We learn more about the magic system and are introduced to a few new characters along the way. And again, these characters make the story so good and feel so real, because they all have their struggles and they grow slowly during their journey. There is more action and politics in this book, but the pacing is still very good.

Oz is definitely my favourite character and I was so excited to see that the next book will be about his journey!

The Mage's Stone was full of war, adventure, friendship and a smidge romance. I enjoyed each shift in POV, with the nanny characters in this book it was nice to be able to get the various thoughts and perspectives of each. I loved the romance sub-plot and the yearning that Liam felt. I loved the introduction of the new characters and I'm very interested in reading the next book.
