In the aftermath of a cataclysm that left the world shrouded in ominous black tendrils known as the "Ribbons," Jubilee is one of the few changed by their touch. Her rare ability to glimpse fragments of people's lives, especially their deaths, has always been a secret she keeps closely guarded. Life in the Bladensburg orphanage is harsh, but Jubilee finds solace in her makeshift family, particularly Jace, the boy she’s loved for years. However, her fragile world is upended when she foresees Jace's imminent murder and risks everything to save him.
Jubilee’s intervention plunges her into the treacherous underworld of Bladensburg, controlled by the ruthless crime lord Oren Dutant. To spare Jace’s life, she strikes a desperate deal, offering herself as Oren’s pawn. As she navigates his dangerous games, Jubilee is forced to confront the reality of Jace’s betrayal and the limits of her own strength. Meanwhile, her growing reliance on her abilities draws Oren's interest, placing her in a precarious position where trust and power are as deadly as the Ribbons that surround their world.
Haunted by loss, love, and survival, Jubilee must decide whether to remain a pawn in Oren’s machinations or embrace the power that sets her apart. As tensions rise and secrets unravel, her journey becomes one of self-discovery, sacrifice, and the relentless fight for control in a world on the brink of collapse.
Gabrielle Miller is an award-winning author, creator, artist, and proud mother who has been telling stories since the age of eight. Her path has been anything but linear, shaped by her experiences as an athlete, military veteran, and former engineer. Eventually, she left her engineering career to embrace her true passion: storytelling and the arts.
Writing across genres like epic fantasy, urban fantasy, science fiction, post-apocalyptic worlds, dystopian struggles, and erotica, Gabrielle’s work is known for its intricate world-building and deeply emotional narratives. Her own journey with neurodivergence and mental health challenges, including PTSD and bipolar disorder, forms her characters and themes, creating stories that are as raw and authentic as they are imaginative.
When she’s not writing or creating, Gabrielle finds joy in family life, diving into great books, and dreaming up her next project. She believes in the power of storytelling to connect, heal, and inspire, and she uses her craft to turn life’s struggles into transformative tales of resilience, passion, and triumph.
A good starter story for anyone interested in Gabrielle’s usual brand of books. Gabrielle’s books are often very gritty and deal with difficult topics, but I think this might be the sweetest story of hers. The good guys aren’t so very good, and the bad guy’s not as evil as expected; he’s even kind of sweet in a kinky and criminal sort of way.
