The Yakuza have rolled into town, and Vince finds himself caught in a standoff between the old and new worlds of magic.
Doubts remain over who tried to assassinate Vince, and the cops have locked down the city to protect the mayor's reputation. But Vince has a job to do. He's taken back the mafia's old territory for their don, but their rival still refuses to accept reality and bend the knee.
Meanwhile, Houou tears itself apart in a factional dispute that spills onto Vince's lap. With the Yakuza circling, Vince is now the mafia's greatest weapon in an escalating gang war that threatens to spiral out of control.
With Christmas around the corner, he even lands himself a special gift—a cursed magic item that might launch Vince to greater heights, or drag him to oblivion.
The pacing was weird - slow most of the time but then super fast during the action and then they reflect on the action for a long time. What bothered me the most was the fights in that Vince didn't even try until the situation got dire. He missed so many opportunities during the fight. And the fact that Vince is still somewhat poor (why hasn't he moved?) is weird. A lot of this book was weird and I just didn't like it very much, especially compared to other offerings these days.
Pola is still annoying but was less bad in this book, I still however do not like her. I like how Fia was finally handled and feel she fits much more into the harem or pride over Pola.
One thing I like is how there's not sex scene after sex scene in this book and some fade out to the next day occur rather than have repetitious boring scenes repeat. However there was too much boring christmas holiday fluff. I mean I feel like not much happens in the book plotwise and it's just redundant managing Pola BS.
I still feel like the author is not making Vince and Nina relationship progress much and it seems stalled and even feel she is being pushed away. I mean he has been living with her for like 5 years, she took him in when he was young and is his mentor, guide, teacher he is her "househusband" and while now they yes have finally admitted it seem to no longer be progressing. If he is to have an official "wife" or harem/pride leader or mamma it should be her. Far too much emphasis is being put on Pola along with the stupid shadowing that he will marry Pola and or Alessia yet by the laws where they live he can't have more than one wife.....I don't like where this seems to be going. I have no issues with Pola being in the harem but she is too immature and self centered to lead a harem...she can barely do her job as sottocapo and Fia and others have to "manage" her all the time.
One gripe I have is how the authors seem to lack knowledge on the sex scene they write about...for example with Fia you read this, "La Lupa, yes...I can feel your cock inside my womb." Eh can we stop with the stupid already......a penis is not able to enter a womb period, it is simply not possible even with a huge abnormal sized penis.
When a woman is excited the length of the vagina grows or "stretches" and while a big penis can touch the cervix it cant penetrate it as it only lets in fluids and is too small for penetration. Also most women that like cervix stimulation also like a certain degree of pain. Further the "cervix" is the lower part of the womb (uterus) and is the gate to the womb.
...so for those with a lack of knowledge you have the vagina (this is the part all the male sex toys claim to be designed like famous porn star so and so with the same bumps and feels as them) which leads to the cervix which then lead to the uterus.
No male is penetrating the cervix or uterus and the only time the cervix allows something more than sperm and fluids to enter, or exit, is during childbirth.
Some people just watch too much hentai.....and have failed in biology class.
This was another strong volume for the series. The author is doing a great job of keeping the plot at priority #1 while advancing the harem/romance elements.
A couple things I really appreciate about this series:
The fight scenes are well-written and tend to advance the story and character growth rather than relying on spectacle or hurting the pace of the story. A lot of authors out there confuse pacing with the number of fight scenes. This series does a great job of allowing the tension to rise and fall and allow characters to breathe and reflect after large events.
The female characters are more than simple dumpsters for the MC's seed. They have distinct personalities, histories, and loyalties and they also have their own interactions with each other that aren't all dependent on the MC. The author could have easily relied on the demi-human racial traits to do all the heavy lifting, but instead, he's given quite a bit of thought into each one as a person instead of as a plot device. Pola, in particular, is a good example of this as she seemed relatively one-dimensional in the first book, but she comes off more fleshed out at this point in the series as we've seen more of what makes her tick, and how her interactions with Nina are more heavily related to their battle from years ago rather than their current flirtations with Vince.
I originally picked up this series to scratch a quick itch for urban fantasy, but it's been surprisingly enjoyable and I'm interested to see where things go in the upcoming volume with the various political players making their moves more openly.
It's Mob Sorcery 3. Nothing earth shaking on that front. The tone and core stay consistent with the previous and thankfully despite being longer it doesn't feel like it drags on too much. Like the previous books the author manages to make enough stuff happen through the book without making it feel rushed or dragged out but the sense of time does get a little wobbly every so often.
As ever Vince is painfully obtuse about all the women around him that want a relationship with him, does some gangster shit and beats up a bunch of dudes, kills (maybe? it's always a little muddy) some other gangers, gets laid a few times, other shenanigans ensue. Good read. Looking forward to the 4th book but hopefully it stays at or below the page count of this one. 650ish Kindle pages is pretty much my upper limit of what I consider acceptable in a single book.
I have enjoyed the series thus far. I am reading them through the Kindle unlimited program and then doubling back when the audiobooks drop. I've quite enjoyed the narrator's performances. My understanding is that in this installment the author chose to insert a Christmas novella halfway through. I enjoyed the novella but from my point of view it did mess with the pacing of the book. As a side note the author has chapters from book 4 of on his patreon and I believe it will be the next one that he releases before switching over to one of his other series. With that said a round of applause for everybody who had a hand in bringing this story to us, the Amazon readers.
It's fun! The interactions between the ladies are hilarious and cute!
The fighting scenes still need some work. I bet the author got some fan letters for his OP MCs in his previous series, but this MC is pretty frustrating.
Imagine you and your friend fighting the enemies or an enemy while that friend shaves himself off and goes Joe Rogan commentary while you are fighting the enemy(s) yourself, then he goes in.
It's pretty common sense that everything described in a fight scene in good action literature happens in an instant, but the fighting in this book happened before the MC joined in (hence the Joe Rogan analogy).
K.D. Roberson did it again with book 3. V's story keeps getting better as we see characters get fleshed out. The story is ramping up to us finding out the big secret, plus who is the next girl that joins the Harem. I cannot wait for the next installment in the series!
I really enjoy this story/series and I can't pinpoint why really. I think it's close to K.D.'s ability to craft actual characters with lives, in a lived-in world. The world itself feeling well crafted and it's own character. Add to that it being a good slow build, and it works great.
Read it the first day it came out, the book is really good, characters have some depth and the world is alive. Fully recommend the series and the Author
Man these books keep getting better and better with each installment, love this series. The setting and story just hit differently, I love the cast and the slow but sure progress of Vince growing his power. Can’t wait for more
This is currently one of my favourite series, and this one is probably even better than the first two. Solid story, and the pacing is excellent. The arc ends cleanly with no cliffhangers, something I also appreciate. I look forward to book 4.
Pretty sure the author nailed this one from beginning to end. Was a little worried after book two started to drift a bit. Looking forward to the next in this series!
Yet another amazing book by K.D. Robertson. The plot is far reaching and grandiose. The characters are unique and compelling. The harem/pride/pack grows by one new member, and it's well done.
The story gets more interesting and as more questions get answered more questions pop up. Another enjoyable read in the Mob Sorcery series and I can’t wait for the next one.
A highly entertaining series!!! An absolutely fabulous world for us the reader to get lost in for several.hours and days!!! I can't wait to see what comes next!!!
DNF @31%. This book was just off. The first chapter felt more like fan-fiction than a legitimate continuation of the series. There were just a bunch of continuity errors, and then the story just dragged on and on.
I love this series, can't wait for the next book. I like slowly getting to know the characters. I also enjoyed the description of the magic system. The lawless aspect of how this society works is exciting.
Loved this. A lot of new mysteries for our guy Vince to solve. A clearly and quickly expanding group of friends, allies, lovers, and Frenemies to contend with whoever our heroes foes will be. Intrigued and impatiently awaiting the next installment.
This is such an amazing series and gets better with each book. I love that there is so much going on, so many intertwined plot lines, and that the MC builds his harem realistically. I cannot wait to read what comes next.
Firstly, what is making Vince so different from other humans is keeping me constantly wanting to read this series. Great action throughout and keeping the spice up when needed. I look forward to what comes next with the 4th book.
It's rare to find an author with consistent good work. This series has been unfailing in its solid writing and plotting and I've enjoyed each installment. I look forward to future works!
