She’s completely wrong for me.
But I’m still going to claim her as my own.
Faye Sullivan has only ever been my shy, reclusive next-door neighbor.
Until her house burns down and I find out that it’s not just her home that catches fire.
Underneath all that shy is a woman who’s smart and passionate and…everything I’ve ever wanted.
But my life is complicated. I’m on the road for half the year playing with the Grizzlies and I have an ex-wife who just won’t go away.
Clearly, I’m in no position to fall in love.
Only…my heart seems to have a different plan.
One that means never letting Faye go.

I was not a huge fan of Grayson to be honest before i started reading this book. I was prepared to dislike the man completely but what happened was the opposite. While reading i came to the conclusion we have so much in common and i coupd relate to his struggles of not letting the past dictate how to live ones life. I absolutely loved him how he wanted nothing but the best for her.
And Faye was prepared to sacrifice a lot for him too, because she could see what they started to built was worth it.

Little by little feelings start to grow and soon they can't seem to stay away. But will he let his past ruin everything he wants with her? Future is bright but inly if he's strong enough to stand by her side.

5 Star Review Divorced From Number Thirty-Eight (Grizzlies Hockey #2) by Elise Faber

From the first chapter Ms. Faber wove a story that drew me in and kept me invested in Faye St. James and hockey player Gray’s story.

After a fire destroys her home Faye and Gray’s attraction ignites. He
calls upon his teammates and their partners to help Faye and in doing so opens up Pandora’s box.

His life is complicated as he has an ex wife Courtney that refuses to leave him alone. However, the heart wants who the heart wants and the chemistry between them becomes impossible to ignore.

It was entertaining to watch their relationship develop as it made me smile.

I've read a fair bit of Elise Faber over the past year and her writing is fun to read. The stories flow and characters so likeable you want to keep reading the series. This one is book two in a new Grizzlies Hockey series. Grey is struggling to end a toxic relationship when he rescues his author neighbor from a house fire. Insta-attraction is there and it quickly escalates to more. However, that toxic ex isn't going away quietly. What ensues is funning, hurtful and heartwarming.

This is a quick, enjoyable read with touch of spice, a family of hockey hotties and strong, loyal women. 4 stars for this HEA.

Burning love!

Nobody is perfect but Gray and Faye are perfect for each other! The sizzling heat between Gray and Faye is hotter than the fire that destroyed her house. Whilst Faye makes more friends thanks to Gray's hockey team mates, he still struggles with his ex who is a nightmare! Throw in the meddling Grizzlies and this was the read that was fun, emotional and at times annoying! Glitter bombs for the win!

dumb name for a cute book

Cute story, but someone needs to hep name these books. “Divorced” through out the whole book, the main character is dealing with a crazy ex who, IN THE FIRST CHAPTER, signs the divorce papers.

Divorced From Number 38 is book 2 in the Grizzlies Hockey series and follows team captain, Gray, as he is dealing with his wife, Courtney, and trying to get a divorce, while helping his neighbor, Faye, deal with the aftermath of losing everything important to her.

Gray has been trying to get Courtney to sign divorce papers for some time now. Every time she shows up at his house, it is always the same thing. Seduction. A tryst. Then goodbye. This last time is no different, except that she has finally signed the papers.

Faye is a lone soul. She lost her parents. Then she lost her grandmother. She has no one left. She is living her grandmother's house, which is next door to Gray's home. She has a bird's eye view out her kitchen window into his kitchen, where she sees a super erotic scene between him and his wife.

Later that night, tragedy strikes. Faye is trying to evacuate, but is unable to. Lucky for her, Gray sees what is happening and quickly responds. Sadly, Faye has lost memories and mementos that can never be replaced.

While recuperating from the impact of this tragedy, Faye loses her composure. Lucky for her, Gray is there again to soothe her. But she keeps reminding herself that he is a married man. He is just being nice since he is her neighbor.

But Gray is insistent that Faye stay with him while she is recovering and dealing with all of the red tape of insurance, contractors and paperwork galore. She says it is only for a few days. But the attraction is off the charts.

When his teammates and their wives show up at his home with everything Faye could possibly need, she is shocked. She does not even know these people, but they showed up because Gray asked them to help.

The women take Faye under their wings. And when they find out who she really is, you can hear the squeals of delight throughout the city. But they accept her for her, not for who she is or what she does. And over time, she becomes family to them.

But Courtney keeps rearing her ugly head at the most inappropriate times. Gray feels responsible for everything that went wrong in their marriage and for the person that Courtney has become. And he sis afraid that history will repeat himself. So much so, that he does something supremely beyond comprehension. Not once, but twice.

But when push comes to shove, Gray figures out what he needs to do. Of course, his teammates are on him to fix what he broke. But all it took for him to finally fix his errors is a well timed message. But is it too late?

I will admit I am not a fan of Courtney's. She is a needy and whiny woman who needs to grow a pair. She needs to let go of what was and move on. She is planning a future with someone else and yet she keeps coming back to Gray. Can we say codependent?

Gray needs to learn to say no to Courtney. Not only that, but he needs to find out why she has this hold on him and how to break this destructive behavior. If he does not, then history will just keep repeating itself.

Faye is a resilient and strong woman. She has been through so much heartbreak and tragedy. When will she get a break? When the chips are down, she perseveres, even when she just wants to pull the covers over her head and hide out for awhile. She is the type of woman that all women should strive to be.

DIVORCED FROM NUMBER 38 is the second instalment in Elise Faber’s contemporary adult GRIZZLIES HOCKEY erotic, hockey romance series, a spin off from the author’s EAGLES HOCKEY/ OAKRDIGE VINEYARDS series. This is Grizzlies captain Grayson Roberts, and romance author Faye St. James’ story line. DIVORCED FROM NUMBER 38 can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story line is revealed where necessary.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Gray and Faye) DIVORCED FROM NUMBER 38 follows in the wake of the rescue of our story line heroine. Faye St. James is a homebody ;a romance author who lives next door to professional hockey player Grayson Roberts but a fire leaves our heroine homeless, having lost all of her sentimental and family possessions. Rescued by her neighbor Grayson Roberts, Faye finds solace and a home without story line hero, a man who is struggling to move on from his past. While Grayson battles to move forward in his personal life, his soon to be ex-wife is determined to remain an active part of his life going forward.

The world building follows several paths including Faye’s recovery and the publishing of her new book but living with her fantasy hero finds Faye falling for a man who is struggling to move on from the past ,a man who is about to walk away when the going gets too tough.

The relationship between Faye and Gray is a neighbors to lovers in which Fayes has fantasized about Gray for as long as she can remember. Gray believes his personal life is out of control, and in this, our hero will push away the woman with whom he is falling in love. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful and energetic secondary and supporting characters including several members of the San Jose Grizzlies hockey team, their spouse, as well as Grayson Roberts’ ex Courtney..

DIVORCED FROM NUMBER 38 is a story of betrayal, obsession, and heart break; friendships and relationships, forgiveness and love. The character driven premise is emotional and captivating; the romance is seductive; the characters are desperate, determined and charismatic

Divorced From 38 is absolutely great ,it’s Elise Faber’s book baby ,number 2 in a great series .It’s really a trying time ,truth be known because Gray’s ex missus won’t leave him alone ,all in his business. But when his shy retiring neighbour next door , Faye St. James becomes a damsel in distress . He rushes through the door into the burning flames of heat of the burning house fire ,and seeing her helplessly stood amongst the debris of her house ,fills him with desire and they’re both feeling the heat…though he feels a bit of a louse…He’s a hot hockey player for the Grizzlies and he calls on his teammates and their wives to help him help Faye quite demure as he’s sure smitten as a kitten and does care for sure. He also has an ex wife who is always up in his business. But his heart has been beating for this other woman’s eyes so fast who’s eyelashes are beating like a moths wings in flight ,she’s outta sight . He doesn’t want a bar of his ex wife giving him a, this strife so he finds himself retreating from his past and wanting to get down and dirty with this lass Faye . Would truly make his day . But he’s on the road for six months of the year ,is it fair on her staying here ? He’s also feeling that he’s not worthy . He’s going through a divorce after all . He doesn’t want to bring this wonderful woman down . Doesn’t want to be the cause of a frown that would grace her face if he did. She needed a place to stay so he helped her out, every step of the way ne was there by her side . Would do anything so why hide the inevitable chemistry that’s arcing and sparking between them so bright . Do the WAGS make her see ,that it’s fate and meant to be . This book is a delight! It’s out of sight good like I knew it would be ,because it’s by Elise Faber see and her books are always ecstasy. Superb blurb and descriptors fine ,as is the storyline. The characters are sweet and endearing but they have themselves some healing to do . But together is how they can succeed with every comfort trade they lead each other in the dance of romance and give love a chance .

This is book 2 in the Grizzlies Hockey series and a very enjoyable read from Elise Faber.
I was actually a little surprised how emotional it was and didn't expect it.
Faye and Gray are perfect together but it is a rollercoaster to get there, they are neighbours.
Gray is a hockey player for the Grizzlies and is going through a divorce and let me tell you she is being difficult. The thing is because of his failed marriage gray has this idea that he is not worthy or capable of love...Luckily Faye changes that.
Faye is a bit shy and reserved she's a writer, and has a bit of a crush on her neighbour Gray, but they don't really interact much.
Then disaster strikes and Faye has a house fire,Gray is like a hero and rescues her from the fire..and he continues to keep saving her and taking care of her...Which warmed my heart so much.
Faye has nowhere to stay and Gray helps her they get to know eachother and becomes close.
There is an abundance of chemistry between them and an attraction that is electric and mutual.
I love the way his team mates and their wives etc all rally together and help Faye get her life back together.
But they both have their insecurities and those could ruin everything..This is an entertaining, steamy, romantic and emotional book.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this story...and I am looking forward to more from this series.
I found Elise Faber's writing very easy to get into and connect with.
Loved it.

As a true Nana’s girl, when Faye’s house burned down, she had me in tears talking about how she has lost everything because her nana’s recipes were in there. Grey saved her life, took her in and healed her heart as a good book boyfriend does!! His crazy ex Courtney does NOT make it an easy ride for them though, and truthfully it would have been if Grey had stood up to her sooner, but I’m just glad it all worked out in the end. The third act breakup was brutal, but for this one, the reunion made it worth it! -By Megan

Gray is sweet and protective

I xannot tell you how much I loved DIVORCED FROM NUMBER 38, Grizzlies Hockey #2. A slow burn, forced proximity, neighbours to lovers, protective hero, reclusive heroine romance which was heartfelt and emotional.

Gray Roberts is a NHL player who is trying desperately to get his toxic ex to sign their divorce papers so that he can get on with his life. Faye Sullivan is a reclusive and shy romance writer who keeps to herself. Gray and Faye are neighbours, they are friendly but don't have much interaction. Faye has had a crush on Gray for years, he even stars in her fantasies, while Gray had noticed Faye but hasn't done anything because of his ex.

Disaster strikes when Faye's home catches fire, luckily Gray notices and rescues her. After her discharge from the hospital Gray offers her a place to stay, which has them becoming closer. The chemistry between them sizzles and their banter is incredible. Gray is extremely protective of Faye and will do anything he can for her. He also manages to slowly bring her out of her shell by showing her car, attention, and love. I loved that his teammates and their wives welcomed Faye into their lives, it was as if she always belonged there. Of course not everything runs smoothly, they have to get past their insecurities, deal with a toxic ex, and learn to open their hearts.

DIVORCED FROM NUMBER 38 was a fun yet emotional read. Elise Faber knows how to entertain and keep her readers captivated. Getting a sneak peek of who the next book is about was very enlightening and I can't wait to read it.

This is by far my favorite book of the series so far, with Faye being my top favorite Grizzlies girl. I loved both her fierceness and softness, which no doubt were what pulled Gray into her orbit. I loved the strength of the faith she had in the value of her relationship with Gray, even when a part of her was deeply scared that it was a fantasy waiting to be shattered in no time. Most of all, I loved how she adamantly had faith in him - in his goodness, in his devotion - even when he himself had so much self-doubt. This is how I want my heroines to be - sturdy with an indefatigable inner strength, welcomes love with open arms but has enough self-worth to walk away if it is denied her, and shines with all the qualities that make a man want to be a better person for her. That was Faye for you in this book, and I adored her.

As for Gray - oh I certainly did not envy his predicament for his former wife as she was one crazy piece of work. And after what happened in the first chapter, I had been so worried that he would be so hung up on her that he would later end up making the ultimate betrayal. But as it turns out, he would be perfectly imperfect: he would make mistakes, but would see them for what they are and waste no time making amends. When all is said and done, we'd see just how right Faye and Gray would be for each other. He would be her safe place at a time when she's lost so much, and he would give her the strong sense of family she's been missing for so long. She, on the other hand, would offer him the peace and acceptance he needs to move on from his past.

I am a grateful recipient of a free review copy of this book. I keave this review voluntarily.

Why does Elise Faber always leave me an emotional heap on the floor begging for more? Every. Single. Time. She is one of my all-time favourite hockey romance authors, and with Divorced From Number Thirty-Eight, the second breathtaking instalment in the Grizzlies Hockey series, she proves once again why she sits firmly at the top of my list.

I wasn’t expecting this story to cut so deep. From the moment we meet romance writer Faye St. James, something about her pulls you in—maybe it’s her strength, maybe her vulnerability, or maybe the quiet, heartfelt resolve that reveals itself layer by layer. She is a heroine you root for from the first page.

And then there’s Gray—captain of the Grizzlies, a man whose life is one complicated rollercoaster. With a soon-to-be ex-wife who refuses to let go and a heart that still wants to do right by everyone except himself, Gray is a hero who feels deeply. As his layers begin to peel back, exposing his emotions, thoughts, and fears, you finally see the wonderful, selfless man underneath.

He knows that starting something with Faye is wrong… but the heart wants what the heart wants. And Gray’s heart wants Faye—mess, complications, vulnerability and all.

But when life throws yet another curveball, will these two be able to weather the storm? Or will the world convince them they’re better off apart?

This story is complicated. It’s messy. It’s beautiful. It’s raw. It’s a tear-jerker.
It’s Elise Faber doing what she does best—delivering a heart-pounding happily ever after that stays with you long after the final page.

Another knockout in the Grizzlies Hockey series, and an absolute must-read for hockey romance lovers.

Book two in the Grizzlies series brings us Gray and Faye's story. Faye is a romance writer, (I wonder how much this shows us about this gifted author?) with more than a crush on her next door neighbor, Gray. Gray is in the midst of a messy divorce from his troublemaker ex, Courtney and only knows the name of his neighbor in passing. When Gray rescues Faye from her burning house, he realizes that he might have underestimated this woman and decides he is going to be the one to help her through this. Gray soon understands that Faye is totally alone in the world and he rallies his Grizzlies teammates and their significant others to get everything that she might need and envelop he in the 'family' she so desperately craves. Something about Faye brings out the protectiveness in Gray and very soon their relationship moves to another level. Unfortunately, Gray has many insecurities that make him feel like he sabotages every good thing in his life and when Courtney starts to bring on trouble he feels he is to blame.

I loved this book. Gray was a deliciously flawed, protective, alpha who would do anything to make 'his woman' feel loved. Faye was a strong woman, who was used to doing things on her own and was worried about getting close to people in case this relationship didn't work and she would lose all her new found 'family'. Of course, Smitty was his usual hysterical self and Luna truly was the tiny tornado that Aiden calls her! So looking forward to Leo and Haley's story next!

Elise Faber is quickly becoming my go to author for warm/hot romance stories. And with Divorced from Number 38 that roadmap to her stories only solidifies more.

Faye and Gray had me from the start. Since this is Book 2 in the Grizzlies Hockey series, I had been introduced to the guys already. But Faye was a whole different story. And boy did she fit the part. Wise, strong, spirited, and levelheaded, she was what was needed for the time. Heck if I didn’t know any better, I would wonder if our author was not telling her own story…but I know nothing is her story...haha.

Fantasy, or reality, no one wants to be alone. Fantasy or reality, sometimes the person we want the most is really right next door: Sometimes metaphorically, sometimes literally. And when circumstances push people together, sometimes they just need to understand, it was meant to happen.

Thus, Divorced from Number 38 is such a story. But don’t be so quick to understand the divorce part between our two main characters. Because…ya gotta read the story to find out.

This is a great love story with some powerful emotional moments, humorous banter between friends and an ever-growing understanding that family does not always mean blood is involved. As Elise shares, sometimes family is right there without you even knowing.

Great Job and well worth all the stars.

Faye has officially become my top Grizzlies heroine. I loved the way she balanced fierceness with gentleness—qualities that naturally drew Gray in from the very start. Her unwavering faith in the value of their relationship was such a highlight for me. Even when she was scared it might all fall apart, she still believed in him: in his goodness, in his loyalty, and in the man, he wanted to be. That’s exactly the kind of heroine I love—strong, resilient, open to love, yet certain enough of her own worth to walk away if she must. Faye embodied all of that, and I adored her for it.

Gray, meanwhile, had one of the most stressful pasts to overcome, thanks to a former wife who was… well, a lot. After the incident in the first chapter, I honestly worried he’d be too tangled up in those old feelings and end up breaking Faye’s heart. But he surprised me in the best way. He’s imperfect, yes, but he owns his mistakes and makes things right without hesitation. By the end, it’s clear how perfectly these two fit. Gray becomes Faye’s safe harbor when her world is falling apart, giving her the sense of family she’s been missing, while Faye offers him the peace and acceptance he needs to finally move on.

A beautifully balanced, deeply emotional romance. I loved every minute of it.

This was another easy and engaging read in the Grizzlies hockey series and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The characters were interesting and the story flowed really well. Gray's ex was an absolute nightmare tho and I loathed her! I was kind of hoping they'd do a little more to deal with her, and earlier on, but they got there in the end. The Grizzlies are an interesting bunch and I'm looking forward to more in the series, plus it was good to catch up with Luna and Aiden from the first book in the series. They were a great found family for Faye who had no one else at the start when we met her. As ever this was an easy read by an author I love.

I also appreciated the mentions of real events/issues here specifically in relation to sports personalities and social media/the book community. It shows how the author is paying attention to her impact of her work on the sport and taking it seriously. I've read other authors who have clearly jumped on the hockey romance bandwagon and don't actually care about the sport or the players. That's not the case here because the author has been writing this genre for a long time and very obviously knows her stuff, but the added recognition through Faye's eyes as an author was a great perspective.

Who knew that a life-altering devastation could bring love to two people together and find out that they have lives that are not all sunshine and happiness. I know that when I pick up a book by this author, I will be pulled in and fall in love with the storyline and characters. Divorced from Number Thirty-Eight is the second book in her new series, Grizzles Hockey, and it contains both happy and emotional moments.
Faye and Gray will find a spot in your heart right from the start. Faye is a romance author whose life has been turned upside down by a fire, leaving her with nothing that meant anything to her. Then there is her sexy next neighbour, Grayson, the captain of the Grizzles hockey team, who is also dealing with a full plate. The sparks ignite after he rescues her from a house fire. The close proximity and Gray's determination to ensure that Faye is cared for, knowing that there are people who want to be there for her and help her, had me swooning over him. Faye finds a new family that she has been missing for years. Now their road to happiness was not easy. An ex-wife and the tales told to the media saw the two of them spiraling, but love won out in the end.

I am a big Elise Faber fan and have loved all her series, especially her hockey ones. This book has the found family/team banter with the Grizzlies’ players and their significant others that I love.

I wasn’t a huge fan of the OW drama and chaos that Fray’s ex brings and I really didn’t like that he had anything to do with her at the beginning of the book, and even more so that Faye saw them.

Gray being a hero and saving his neighbor from a burning house and then staying to watch over her was amazing. Honestly, their story could have started with this and still had some of the OW’s residual drama and menace.

Gray and Faye go from neighbors where he knows of her, but doesn’t know her to nearly inseparable. She’s been obsessed with him and ‘in love’ with her fantasy of him as she uses him for inspiration in her romance books.

I loved seeing Smitty and Kaile with yet another team! Faye’s warm welcome and instant inclusion into the group was great and definitely what she needed.

I received a free ARC from the author and Wildfire Marketing Solutions; and I am voluntarily leaving an unbiased review.

This is the second book in the Grizzlies Hockey series.

Faye St. James, the MFC, is a romance author, having penned over fifty books.  She’s a little shy, and a loner, having lost her family, including her favorite Nana.

Gray, the MMC, is the captain of the Grizzlies NHL hockey team. He’s been going through a divorce from his psycho soon-to-be ex-wife. They’ve had a very unhealthy relationship, on again off again, with Gray feeling a lot of guilt about it.

Gray and Faye live next door to each other, but haven’t gotten to know each other except in passing.  When the story begins, Faye’s house burns down, with Gray rescuing her. What follows is their love story, with issues caused by Gray’s wife, Faye dealing with emotions from losing all her possessions that are memories of her family, and fun interactions with his teammates and their families.

I definitely recommend this book, which is told in dual POVs, allowing the reader to understand the emotions both are feeling as they become friends, and ultimately fall in love.

I am voluntarily leaving a review for an Advanced Reader Copy of this book, and was not paid for my review.

Faye and Gray are neighbors. He’s a hockey player and she is a romance writer. While they cross paths very little they both have a thing for the other. One night while she was sleeping her house catches fire and she almost makes it out. However she doesn’t and Gray breaks down the door and recuses her. While in the hospital he is taking care of her so she doesn’t have to be alone. He wants to take care of her, and she isn’t sure what it’s like to have someone care for her. He allows her to move into his house so she has a place to stay. While staying there his almost ex wife catches them in a very personal moment, and makes their life miserable. As they start to navigate their relationship, they grow together even though he thinks that he’s going to cause issues because he’s the one that doesn’t do well in them.
Their relationship is put to the test, many times by the crazy ex wife. But she leans just how much she is part of the hockey family and how she belongs with them.
I really enjoyed this book! It was well written l, you are taken into the story and you feel like you are there with them. I like that they growing their relationship and they learn to rely on each other.

I didn’t like the ex storyline. Otherwise, the book was fine.

Gray, an NHL captain, rescues Faye from her burning home and then proceeds to fall instantly in love with her. Faye has apparently been in love with Gray for four years. Gray takes over and takes care of Faye and the two form a relationship.

The book literally opens with Gray having sex with his soon to be ex wife because he can’t resist her sexually even though he is never satisfied with their encounters and hates her as a person. Right off the bat: confusing. Then he rescues Faye hours later and is immediately in love with her. I mean sure whatever. But I didn’t like it.

I feel like this is the theme of the story. They love each other and there is no buildup of romance or feelings that draws you into the story. Then Gray’s psycho ex manages to interrupt or ruin moments at every turn. Interspersed with a lot of loaded sentences at the end of chapters like: “I should have known how wrong I was” or “I was about to find out that she would never let it go.” Things along those lines appeared constantly.

I want to fall in love alongside the characters and this book just didn’t do that for me.

Grizzlies Hockey #2

Faye Sullivan has crushed on her next door neighbor for the last four years but has barely spoken to him and he's noticed her. Gray has been dealing with his very toxic soon to be ex so hasn't made any moves to get to know Faye.

When Faye's house burns to the ground he is there to rescue her. When he realizes she is alone and has no one he makes it a point to help her get through it all including letting her move into his house. He also gets his teammates and their significant others to rally around her and get things she might need and to just be there for her as a family would be, something she doesn't have.

He is protective of her and soon their feelings change. But Gray has a failed marriage behind him, his ex who won't leave him alone and he seems to mess up everything good in his life including Faye. Walking out is his way of fixing things. But is it?

4 stars
Loved seeing his teammates and you've got to love Smitty!

An introverted writer, neighbor to a pro hockey player, forced proxy, disgruntled ex, great circle of friends, he falls completely head over heels for his girl. Gray, a popular pro hockey player who is going through a divorce and its just not easy. As time goes on, he realizes that relationship was not good for him. His neighbor Faye is someone he's always been curious about. Faye is quiet, lonely, no family, keeps to herself but friendly with her other neighbors. She's always had this quiet crush on Gray, but they are opposite. A fire puts her life on the line but who is there for the incident and after??? Yes, Gray. She doesn't quite understand why he's staying around her but for the first time in her life, she is somewhat welcoming the attention because its Gray. So attentive and her crush is just deepening. This story was fun, emotional and had it all. This was my first from this author and I enjoyed reading this so much.

🏒Divorced from No 38🏒

⭐ 4/5

Gray and Faye

This story follows Gray and Faye. It is sweet as it is complicated. Romantic as it is heartbreaking at some points.
When a fire destroys Faye’s home, her neighbor Gray jumps in with some of his friends to help her.
And what follows is something neither saw coming. They have attraction and more, but Gray also has baggage that won’t go away easily.
And because of some things Gray doesn’t find himself capable of love.
Faye is a writer but despite that she is a shy person. Who had a bit of a crush on her neighbor.
And when he helps her in more ways, a connection appears. But both struggle with insecurities. And when the worst happens, Gray does something he promised he wouldn't do. Hurt her.
Can they come back from that, and do they want to? Beautiful but also heartbreaking. A wonderful bunch of friends who are supporting and caring.

Faye and Gray..neighbours but strangers! Gray is a sweetheart whose divorce is causing problems, or rather, Courtney, his unpleasant ex, is causing problems. Meanwhile, shy Faye has watched Gray from the safety of her home where she writes her books. I loved the reflections and comments about my beloved and very varied Romance genre!! When disaster strikes Faye, Gray, plus his wonderful teammates (and my fave, Smitty), step up and support her in a way this solitary woman is not used to.
This is a lively story, full of emotion, friendship and love. Yes, Gray's almost instant fall for Faye did give me a moment, but he's a good guy and Faye definitely deserves love and friendship in her life. My heart went out to her for the loss of the few things that meant so much to her. I have my mum's Christmas cake and ginger cake recipes, which she wrote out in her beautiful handwriting and I would be devastated if I lost those!
Overall, a lovely read with two very lovable central characters 💖💖💖💖

Every time I read one of Elise’s books, it makes me want to go back and read her backlog (I will do it someday!) You can 100% read this as a standalone, but the love and friendship in this found family makes me want to know their story. This one is no different. When Faye’s house burns down, her handsome hockey player neighbor, Gray, saves her life and helps her piece it back together. His family becomes hers. Gray does have a past and it threatens to break them apart more than once. Will the last time stick?

I love Grays’s vulnerability without it being wishy washy. He wants to do what he thinks is best for those around him. Faye is used to being alone and I loved how brave she was. She lost everything, but instead of wallowing, she saw what she could rebuild. Even though it was big and scary, she embraced it and I loved that for her.

These two are another great couple and can’t wait for more! 5/5⭐️5/5🌶️

I received an advanced copy of this book.

DIVORCED FROM NUMBER THIRTY-EIGHT is the second book in Elise Faber’s Grizzlies Hockey series and was filled with all the grumpy/sunshine, opposites attract, found family vibes I crave in one of her books.

I went into this one very curious about the male MC, Gray Roberts. Captain of the Grizzlies, the Oscar the Grouch of the hockey world, sexy and ultimately very screwed up by his (ex)wife. Full transparency - it was this part of the story that left me a bit perplexed. I had a hard time with how he handled everything but in the end he came through.

By far my favourite part of the book was Faye Sullivan. She was fantastic. I liked that she was a romance author and I would like to think that there were aspects of her writing process that reflected Elise Faber. I could be completely wrong but in my mind that is what I pictured.

DIVORCED FROM NUMBER THIRTY-EIGHT was a satisfying read from start to finish and gets the judy.ann.loves.books stamp of approval, TBR and Enjoy.

Divorced from Number 38 is part sweet, part spicy and an all around a wonderful story. It was so easy to fall for both of these characters with Gray Roberts trying to find his way out of his unhealthy marriage from his a bit crazy, soon to be ex-wife and Faye Sullivan who looses everything when her house burns down.
They may be next door neighbors but their lives are so very different. Gray is outgoing with a team full of friends and Faye lives a solitary life as a romance writer especially after she lost all of her family, but when they are thrown together after Gray saves Faye he becomes a true life hockey hero. He not only saved her from the fire but he took her in and brought her into his close circle of friends. Now, she finds her real life romantic experience is what she has been writing about and always dreamed of yet she realizes that real life romance is even better than she ever imagined.
