The Phoenix Guardians #1

Phoenix Chosen: Ein Gay Mpreg-Portal-Romantasy-Abenteuer (The Phoenix Guardians 1)

Rate this book

it’s giving like a campier, no brain, vibes only, off brand version of bro and the beast….this is somehow a compliment bc objectively it’s bad but subjectively i had fun so bam 4 stars on VIBES ONLY !!! romance build up was bulldozed thru💀 but i think it’s supposed to be a fated mates type thing so i let it slide….well i let most everything slide bc the ol noggin was out of order for the duration of the read🤣🤣🤣

this was such a cute moment tho:

“Is this a phoenix?” I ask the shopkeeper.
“Yes, yes, phoenix. Beautiful, no? Yours for two drachmae.”
“Oh, I don’t have any money,” I say.
“Two drachmae?” Kalistratos scoffs. “You have to be joking. That thing’s worth no more than a couple of obols.”
Airos appears on my right and produces a little bag from his sleeve. “I may just be a traveling monk, but two drachmae is a small price for something you find beautiful. I’ll buy it for you.”
“You don’t have to do that, Airos,” I tell him.
Kalistratos leans in front of Airos and holds up some coins. “Here, four drachmae for it.”
“Six,” Airos says to the shopkeeper with a smile.
“Sell it to me for ten,” Kalistratos says, pushing Airos with his shoulder.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 men are so dumb i love it😍

i read this specifically bc the cover bewitched me so imagine my delight finding out there’s a link for some nsfw character art at the end of the book!!😩😩😩 (it’s free btw)

anyway, in case ur confused: this was awful and i enjoyed every minute and i will be reading book 2 when it comes out!!!

oh and fyi this is an unfinished series and this book ends on a cliffhanger

update #1 to specify: the author confirmed the cover "art" is AI generated.
do whatever you may with this info, or not.

i wish to add that AI "art" is unethical and considered stealing/theft which i do not support, therefore this author/book is on my "problematic-and/or-AI" shelf.

update #2: i've just found out all of this author's audiobooks are labeled AI "virtual voice"... plus they have some AI translations as well...

i'm just gonna leaving here some thought-provoking sentiments shared by others (including readers & authors) that i totally agree with regarding AI in the bookish world:
📣 "why would i waste my time and energy on a book that no one else bothered with to take their time and energy to write and create"
📣 "authors using AI for their cover is such hypocrisy - AI "art" is piracy! it's just as problematic as plagiarism and book piracy!"
📣 "if the cover is made with AI why should i assume the writing isn't as well. AI covers are red flags🚩"
📣 "AI translations are disrespectful to whole cultures, besides often unintelligible and like a world salad so with these bad translations native readers who buy them are also financially ripped off (often bc KU or such services aren't available in their countries)"
📣 "AI audiobooks are unethical & disrespectful to real voice actors/narrators"
📣 #supportrealartists #supporthumancreativity

[ if anyone notices me reading a book that had any "help" from AI (be that the cover "art", the writing itself, the audiobook, the translation, anything..) *please* feel free to warn me!♡ i try my best to avoid any AI content but i'm only human & sometimes it's easy to miss unfortunately.. ]

I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. I was in a slump and wanted something simple that wouldn't require so much brainpower to think about, and this was perfect. It's all vibes.

I was actually wary from the beginning because frogmen??? I don't know why, but I felt so confused, and for some reason, I still can't picture their faces 🤷

I can't stop laughing at the cover; the first time I saw it, I thought they both were side-eyeing me.

How absolutely dare you leave us hanging, Ashe Moon? That ending was criminal.

I was both surprised and not surprised by how much I enjoyed this? It reminded me a bit of BRO & THE BEAST mixed with BOUND TO THE BATTLE GOD. It had similar vibes of the former but had the build up and slight length of the latter. The slight slow burn of the two characters falling for each other was refreshing because it wasn't immediate spice city. I liked seeing the characters grow and get closer and build that trust that comes with the sort of connection.

Loved the concept too because I'm a sucker for this alternate worlds/portal magic romances full of road trips and reluctant romance.

Will wait for the next book with bated breaths.

Happy reading!

The beginning of the Blurb was promising but then.....
"... Here, he is an omega; valuable, alluring, and capable of bearing children. Tyler knows that’s impossible—how the hell can a man get pregnant? ..."

Transphobic much?
That's a obvious No for me. Thank you, next.

Update: AI Cover & Audiobook. This author just gets better and better! 🙄🖕🖕

This was an interesting story with a lot of imagination on the authors part. I did love the chemistry between Tyler and Kalistratos and the protectiveness Kalistratos had for Tyler. The end was quite the cliffhanger!
I listen to this on audio, but the next book I believe I’ll just pick up and read because the audio version had a computer generated narrator which I didn’t care for. The voice was very monotone and something that I didn’t enjoy listening to. I would prefer a real person be the narrator versus the computer! I believe I’ll also wait for the full series to be completed before I start with book two.

This was better than expected.
With stories like this, my gripe comes from the off-wack storylines and the limited interactions with the characters.
Keep in mind that this is a novella. That being said I feel like the story was too big for the space the author gave it. I saw the foundation for a great story, but because of the length everything was cut short.
The world-building was still in its bare bones stages.
Some of the dialogue at the beginning of the novel felt too current and modern to really transport me into this other world.
And the bond between the two main characters was still ankle-deep before the 'I love you's' came into place.
There were some great moments that had the potential for more. I would love to see this expanded into a full-length novel so that these shortcomings can be addressed.
If you're looking for something to pass the time and aren't too picky about depth this may work for you.

I really got sucked into this book till to the very end and….It’s a cliff hanger! While on his way to work, Tyler, gets sucked into an alternated world of shifters. He finds himself being rescued by hunky magical man and a talking cat. Only to find out they are Phoenix shifters with different powers. Thus starts the grand adventure and romance for Tyler on their quest to find the Great Phoenix for answers and a way home. I loved the world building, the feeling of ancient Greek times, yet so different with the different cultures of shifters. I am looking forward to the next book.

“I don’t give him a chance to finish. My lips are already on his, the front of his robe clenched tightly in my fists. I know that if I tried to speak, I’d just f__ it up again. I’d find some way to diminish the way I feel and position myself to get less than what I want because I’m just to damn scared to lose it all.”

What a fun start of series, I just devoured it in one sitting. Clearly I was not paying attention and didn’t realize there would be a cliff hanger, but totally worth it. Love Tyler & Kalistratos and this shifter/parallel universe Ashe has created.

Now anxiously waiting for part 2!

3.5! I’m loving any book right now that involves transmigration (someone going into another world). I think the world building was okay but i really enjoyed the characters and their relationships! The cliffhanger has me interested in how this story will conclude

I actually liked this MUCH more than I expected. Did I want it to be quite a bit longer so that we could get much more growth in the characters? Absolutely!!! It felt very rushed, but what’s there is addicting and interesting.

Now it just needs non-AI covers and it would be even better.

This was for sure a unique and interesting book that involved mpreg, shape shifting beings, world walking, a MM relationship, and lots of magic. There's a lid for every pot, and this is definitely a niche pot kind of book. While I didn't necessarily dislike this book, it was a little too vague for my liking. I liked all the components in this book, but the author doesn't do a great job in bringing them all together and nothing seems to really happen during the book. Since the book ends on a serious cliff hanger and I do actually want to know what the hell the Phoenix prophecy is and what Tyler being transported there in the first place means, I will absolutely be reading the second book. But I'm hoping it's not as lackluster as the first book.

There is a lot that happens at the beginning of the book, and a significant event at the ending of the book. But there seems to be nothing that happens in the middle of the book, and the only purpose it serves is for Tyler and Kalistratos to hook up with one another while they're hanging out and waiting for .... I'm still not really sure why they were just sitting around and waiting. I suppose it was to decode a map, but it seems like it would have been more helpful for them to be traveling towards a goal while looking for answers from the map and not sitting still. And there didn't seem to be a lot of content dedicated to the discovery of the map's secrets and more so for Kalistratos and Tyler to bang one another.

This is for sure a unique smut book and has decent spicy scenes, but they don't happen until well into the book. Like 2/5 decent. If you're looking for something quick and simple to read and want a break from your usual, maybe check it out. It was interesting enough for me to download the next book after finishing this one.

I’ll admit it—books like Phoenix Chosen are one of my guilty pleasures. I don’t pick them up expecting deep plots or complex character development. Instead, they’re perfect when I need a quick, lighthearted palate cleanser.

This one was silly, a bit illogical, and oddly amusing—but that’s exactly why I enjoyed it. It’s the kind of read where you just have to turn off your brain and go with the flow.

What Did I Just Read??

I’m kind of at a loss with this book. It’s entertaining, sure, but it’s also so unbelievably random.

Tyler randomly appears in this other world and from there all the random things you can imagine happen. A hot Phoenix himbo-esque man appears as a naked rescuer to reluctantly save Tyler from some slave trading/omega trading frog people. There’s a talking cat and did I forget to mention Tyler finds out he’s pregnant? Cause in this world that’s a thing. Only it’s a mystery pregnancy because he has no memory of the getting pregnant part. Oh and all of this happens in the first like ten pages…

Like I said, random.

The other MMC whose name ive already forgotten because it’s a real mouthful, is just as confusing. We get very little background on him so we only know he’s looking for something and is jacked. That’s pretty much the summary of his entire personality. He’s mildly funny but really his only endearing quality is his misuse of the exclamation, “jesus” into “cheesus.”

I’m gonna read the next not because I’m invested in the story but because I’m mildly curious what happens after this book ends in a cliffhanger.

Things I love:
1. Ancient Greek setting and shifters’ world
1. Phoenix shifter—very refreshing after reading wolves and dragons.
3. Airos and Alyx
4. Mysterious pregnancy

It wasn’t bad. The book started very strong, all mystifying. Tyler and Kalistrastos have chemistry from the beginning. Kalistrastos is very protective. But, it became lukewarm after half way and by the end, I lost interest somewhat and just wanted to finish it. Oh! The book ends with cliffhanger. Tyler is in Kalistrastos world which is inspired by Ancient Greece. But, their interactions always brought me out of the world. For some reason, the story somewhat felt like Jesus birth story. Airos and Alyx were quite interesting characters too. Main characters relationship develops so slowly but by the end, it was all rushed, their relationship was in baby stage but ‘I love you’ exchanged, Kalistrastos became too possessive which felt out of character, Tyler said he was tough but never acted tough and the plot became shaky and lost its depth when they had sex. So many spice scenes were squished together in the end, like they’re having sex right after life threatening situations and Kalistrastos misusing power like that? It all felt out of character to me.

Overall, it was okay.

EDIT: Nevermind, I'm out. Just went to put book 2 into currently reading and noticed there's an unreleased book 3. (I thought it was a duology.) Probably means another cliffhanger is on the way. Nope, nope, and a third time nope. I don't play this game.

*

I skimmed a lot. Mostly I didn't care about the worldbuilding and whackadoodle plot and just wanted to see how the relationship developed. It was pretty insta-lovey, or at least very-quickly-lovey, but sweet in its own way. But not sweet as in the absence of steamy scenes, because those are definitely there. I skimmed those, too.

But my biggest complaint? TOTALLY UNNECESSARY CLIFFHANGER. There's no reason for it to exist other than to be able to split this into two books for marketing/sales reasons. This always annoys me, and the only reason this is getting a semi-pass is that I knew ahead of time it was coming. (Thank you, other reviewers.)

3 stars, because it was fine and I kind of want to see what happens with the train wreck.

Outstanding! Tyler was was living his ordinary life day after day, peppered with a few fanciful dreams. He gets off the bus and next thing he knows he's in an entirely different world and nothing is ordinary. Kalistratos, a Phoenix shifter, one of the few remaining is on a mission looking for the map to the Great Phoneix' temple with his friend fellow cat shifter, Alyx. Tyler and Kali and Alyx go on an adventure meeting new species friend and foe. There is no rest and life is constantly moving. Tyler is on a steep learning curve, is he up for the challenge? Does Kali find the temple? Whose the new friend? I don't normally like cliff hangers but Ashe is an expert building wonderful worlds and even more wonderful characters. I am eagerly excitedly awaiting the next installment, hope it's soon. Well done! I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.

In this new world, the author introduces us to Tylor who is transported to a magical worked of shifters, slave runners magical pheonix nation that, for some unknown reason he is thrust into the middle of saving. This is the first book in I don't know how many, maybe even the Great Pheonix does not know , and the chosen one meets his guardians and though all of them reluctant you sense all will be made clear in time....
It's an HFN ending, of sorts, but in great sagas, chronicles, you need the suspense. One of my all-time favourite series of books is the Chronicles of Thomas Covenant . This book remind me in a way of them but with mm and mpreg thrown into the mix. Truely enjoying this book, I got a freebie in exchange for a review.

OMG! Ashe Moon does it again, crafting a world that pulls you in right from the first chapter! The chemistry between Tyler and Kalistratos is off the charts, and the spicy scenes? Absolute perfection! The other guardians add even more fun, especially when they gang up on Kalistratos, making me laugh out loud. It’s the kind of story that leaves you wishing the whole series was already finished so you could binge it all!

With mysteries waiting to be unraveled and a shadowy figure determined to stop Tyler and his guardians from finding the truth, this book is one thrilling ride you won’t want to miss!
