A wonderful fictional story around a creative woman (Clara) during World War II. The story talks about things during wartime of struggles and loss and love. Her Soldier came home, and Clara who is engaged to a soldier that of course was changed from the war. During work ar Christmas time and the preparation and excitement and stress and work of decorating hard at a department store, she of course is thrilled when he gets home come to find out how distant he becomes and how much the war has changed him. With evidence of PTSD, she tries to connect with him and communicate as he suffers through all the memories he had lived through in war. Clara bringing art into his life to help him get through his struggles and overcome, he realizes talents and hope for a new day.
I thoroughly enjoyed this heartwarming story full of hope. The nostalgia of an era gone by was woven into the story, helping me picture being in the mid-1940's amidst the post WWII years of America. While Clara struggle to establish her career, she waits with hope and true love believe that her fiance, missing for two years after the end of the war, might still come home to her. From the hope that her love would return and, ultimately, their very real struggle as a couple to re-establish a romance and life together that was put on hold by war and fear and trauma, the author does an excellent job helping us see through the lens of both main characters. This story hits home in many personal ways for me-my uncle that was a fighter pilot in WWII.
I love the way Rhonda Wells weaves historical details into a romance that isn't about fairy tales. The Christmas Cherub is about loving in the hard times and learning to wait for God's perfect timing, to have a little faith. It's one of the best Christmas stories I've read in a while. I look forward to more books by this author.
I adored the wonderful Christmas cherub in this story. I loved the romance . I loved Clara and Jack. I liked that Clara believed that Jack would be found after the war and that he could get better. I laughed some and cried. I received a copy of the book and gave an honest opinion of the book.
