A zany romantic comedy starring a duke’s daughter, who’s more of a fighter than a lady, and a prince who’s totally into that!
Maria's betrothed, Prince Renato, managed to survive meeting the family at the Annovazzi estate. However, one trial invites another...because delegates from the neighboring Sandelz Empire have arrived, so now the engaged pair must turn their attention to foreign diplomacy!
Officially, the prince of Sandelz and his retinue have descended to celebrate Prince Renato and Maria's engagement. But when the empire they hail from has a history of conquest and internal strife, no one in Rubini can afford to relax! And then there's the fact that the prince's younger sister, Princess Ancelline, once wanted to marry Renato... It's going to take all of Maria's training to navigate these international waters!
I liked that we met several new characters, even if one of them is making it known they like Mimi! LOL! These new characters are just so different from our sweet-loving couple that I found how they directly clashed with our couple's personalities fascinating! It's not all the time we see Mimi thrown off guard the way she was at one point in this volume! LOL!
I think my favorite chapter was the last one because the way Mimi started speaking her inner thoughts out loud touched my heart! It reminded me of how fun and strong a character she is, she is still a human, just like everyone, and feels moments of uncertainty too.
Though seeing what happens after that really warmed my heart as well, because it's obvious one of these new characters was trying to get under her skin. Mimi may not have taken the bait and gotten riled up, but I definitely did! LOL!!
For all my deep reservations about this new girl, Mimi's determination to protect this new character warmed my heart right up! I really agree with Aida that people just need to get to know Mimi and see her heart because they will certainly love her!
Overall, another great volume in this series, with a slight turn in it not being all fluff, but more politics coming into play!
Always so cute and charming. We've met some new characters and so intrigue is building. I did find Mimi a little clueless in this volume and with her history of training to take over her father's dukedom, I would think she could read between the lines when someone is trying to insult or get under her skin. Looking forward to what happens in the next volume.
There are far more questions than answers here, but the naivete and determination Mimi usually strikes out with shine through, even if it often makes her a tad too exuberant. It is good to see if nothing else her relationships with Prince Renato and the others are very solid, to the point that between that and her own lack of understanding, even when issues could arise with the Sandelz empire during this visit. Princess Ancelline especially seems like she could be problematic, along with these unknown attackers. It seems like something may also be a key point around this sorcerer, though it's clear this is a sore subject for Aida. Still, even with all this confusion and things not going according to plan, Prince Renato seems unshakable in his faith when it comes to Mimi and vice versa. Rather envious truly, including the hilarious shenanigans Mimi cooks up just to try and do her part to make Prince Renato happy.
