He came to claim her soul. She may claim his heart instead.
She wasn’t supposed to die. When Soraya Peterman dies, she expects peace. Instead, her soul tears into Faelora—a realm of shadows and magic where she’s invisible to the living, and reapers hunt anomalies like her. She’s the soul that shouldn’t exist, and every moment she lingers is borrowed time.
They call him Death. Rhyker is the afterlife’s most ruthless weapon. Cold. Efficient. Merciless. He’s harvested tens of thousands of souls without blinking. Then he’s sent to erase the impossible girl who defies the rules of existence—and she looks at him like he’s salvation, not destruction.
For one catastrophic heartbeat, he hesitates.
And everything changes.
To save her, they must solve her murder. To keep her from oblivion and give her peace, Rhyker shatters every law binding his kind—risking his own soul for the girl who makes him burn for the first time in centuries. Together, they race through ancient secrets and fae court politics, following deadly clues to the truth behind her death. But the deeper they dig, the closer they grow—and the harder it becomes to ignore the forbidden bond blazing between them.
A bond that could save everything… or destroy them both. This fantasy romance trilogy is the first in a soon-to-be growing world filled with characters you’ll never forget. Perfect for fans of slow-burn tension that ignites, soul-deep connections, shadow daddies with soft spots, forbidden romance that defies realms, and heroines who make death himself question everything.
Thank you to KT Martin for an ARC of Reaper's Ruin. I thoroughly enjoyed this book!
What happens when Death is a smoking-hot, Shadow Daddy reaper that has come to claim a soul, but decides to protect and fall for that soul instead?! Read Reaper's Ruin to find out!
Rhyker has been a reaper for 800 years, sending souls that don't cross over as they should, into oblivion for breaking the natural order and trying to stay among the world of the living. Then, when he is sent to reap Soraya's soul, everything changes for the both of them.
"I've fought wars. Battled monsters. I've walked battlefields soaked in blood, watched souls beg and scream for one more moment. And through it all, I felt nothing. But you... you ruined me. You made me feel again. You made me want."
A fun and engaging story of love against the odds, with some spice to keep things interesting, and entertaining characters that will draw you into the story. Soraya is a mortal from Earth, and her comments made me chuckle a few times with her references to Earth things that those in Faelora don't understand. I always appreciate a witty and humorous FMC.
This book is well written and fun to read, and I am DYING to read book 2 and see what happens next.
Got this as an ARC and OMG, 5 FREAKING STARS! loved it! Rhyker is my new shadow daddy boo!!! This book needs to be in book stores ASAP! I NEED a physical copy! It will be a nice addition to my 5 star shelf 😍
Loved the banter, plot twists, badass MMC and FMC, bouncing between the mortal realm and Faelora, and the slow burnnnnn! Loved it all! I loved that it didn’t take long to grab my attention at the start.
K.T Martin, THANK YOU! (I need the next one already! Like yesterday)
Rhyker is officially my book husband!!!! I could not put this book down !!! This is a bit different than the fae you know , and the worlds that have been written but it’s so worth the journey. This book drew me in , kept me wanting more and hyped me up , I was laughing , got teary eyed and was pacing and holding my breathe . This book needs to be in book stores . Do not sleep on the book because I need and I mean I neeed book 2 asap !!! Rhyker is the touch her and die , he is absolutely everything you want in a romantasy, and soraya is his perfect match in every way !!! She will surprise you and I am sure she is about to become that BOSS do not sleep on this book it is as good as the top romantasy series out there !! I’m telling you this deserves to be in bookstores and on a top seller list!!!! Just go read it it’s worth it
Omg, I fell in love with this story! It’s such a new and different take on a romantasy story! A FMC and MMC that are both literally dead/are ghosts and their adventures from there? I was curious at first how that was going to go and work for a story but it’s definitely a unique world we explore!
Our FMC, Soraya, is a human who is murdered but her soul is transported to the fae realm. Our MMC, Rhyker, is a Reaper sent to reap her soul. He’s shocked though because 1) she’s human, and there haven’t been a single human in the fae realm in 800 years and 2) souls normally have a few weeks to find peace but Soraya only JUST died and was sent to be reaped. It goes against all the rules of the reapers. They’re meant to maintain balance and allow souls time to find peace. On top of that, anytime a reaper has tried to get close enough to reap her, she disappears. No one knows why. Once Rhyker gets close enough to her, he’s instantly pulled to her with feelings he hasn’t felt in 8 centuries of reaping. He’s never been motivated to find peace and has enjoyed reaping all the fae he could after they wiped out humanity, including himself. To have another human around him again, and one so beautiful, is making him question everything before him.
Something is different about Soraya though. She was murdered in the human realm but doesn’t know by who or why. Or why her soul ended up in the fae realm. Breaking all the rules, Rhyker agrees to help her find out more about her murderer and help her find her door. But as their adventure continues, their connection grows and the thought of losing her to the true afterlife is tearing him apart with every moment. He doesn’t want to lose the one thing in centuries that’s made him feel but also wants her to find her peace. Discovering more about Soraya and her murder only makes things more and more complicated.
The love story in this book is so captivating! We definitely have instant connection but it is slow burn. The YEARNING from these 2 is so intense! I loved reading Rhyker’s POV because he’s a character that as a reaper, literally has not felt a thing in 800 years but it’s only her that has brought him to life again.
The spice 🌶️🥵, wheeew…again it is slow burn but once you get there, it is so worth it 🥵 we have multiple scenes, all super passionate in their own ways. A jealous and possessive Rhyker too is feral to read. Just…yes, yes, and yes! Loved the love story in general.
I think Taelon is definitely going to become a favorite character of mine. I absolutely adore him and was glad to see towards the end of the book we are starting to add some side characters I know will be key moving forward and our own little found family ❤️
The book doesn’t end on a cliffhanger but is setting up for the next book nicely! I can’t wait to read it!!
I was fortunate to receive an ARC of Reapers Ruin, and it did not disappoint!
“I don’t know how to find my peace when it means leaving you behind” — this line alone captures the heart-wrenching beauty of this book, an absolute emotional roller coaster! The romance is pure poetry, each word dripping with such raw, vivid love that it feels like a living, breathing force. But woven throughout is this haunting truth: the characters are trapped in a lifeless existence, only truly awakening to life’s vibrancy in death’s embrace. Yet, amidst the ache, the humor sparkles — razor-sharp pop culture references and clever banter that had me laughing out loud, perfectly balancing the story’s weight. This book is a soul-stirring blend of joy, sorrow, and those piercing reminders to embrace life fully. It left me clutching it close, desperate for more of this series, and inspired to live a little braver. A breathtaking, unforgettable read!
2 Star (overall) – 3 Star (for the idea) Bear with me… this was another problematic reading experiences and heads up to anyone picking this book to read. This book could have been 100 pages long. You will read nothing but repetition and redundancy. If authors want to write trilogies then pull your ideas to do so. Forcing several pages of nothing but repetition just to say “I wrote a trilogy” is not the way to go. This could have been a novel with quality (quality vs quantity). The concept and ideas were VERY cool but the writing, or lack of it, kills the experience.
MAJOR issues:
-I felt like I was reading a rough draft. I’ve never read something so full of repetitions, redundancies, and plot inconsistencies. It felt like the writer could only use a few words to describe things: “raw” anything,(world love to have a count in how many times "raw" was used in this book), “primal” anything, death incarnated, death itself. Then we get the overwhelming repetition of ideas and phrases, ENTIRE paragraphs, that are all copy and paste. AGAIN, if I have not made my point, the book is written in redundancy. Wording things differently like “again, I felt these emotions”, “I kept of having these feelings of such and such” , would have been helpful, stylistic speaking so it doesn’t feel so repetitive. It gets painful because all you ready is repetition. Again, this feels like a draft work. -Taelon recognized Soyara as a human immediately and it took Rhyker (an 800yr old Reaper) a long time staring in her eyes and how many minutes to notice that. How? -Plot holes and inconsistencies: Rhyker mentioned at least two times that he was over 8 centuries old but Soraya just actually reacted to it when Tealon mentioned for the 3rd time. -Chap 19- Soyara saying that “people are polite in that place/court” when she had never been to Faelora nor that court. How would she know what is polite, especially after her going through a scenario of custom of romancing that she took as innocent politeness and it was not that at all. -Let me pig back on that point and bring another annoying point: every male in this book falls madly in LUST with Soyara and wants to bed her. They have a one line interaction with her and notice that 'she is smart, and strong, and a boy could never be able to handle her because she is just too much'. Fcking rly????? Pathetic. -How many times, in a single sex scene, do you need the guy saying “are you sure you want this? I can stop”, after they already has their peak reached at least once and given the fact that this as not her first time? -I also should have kept count in another repetition: how many times does Rhyker tells Soraya “go to your room” and she protests back? (three of four times per chapter? Written as copy and paste? Sounds about right). Alpha male complex can be hot but such levels were NOT achieved in this book. S.O.R.R.Y. -Did the building romance between Soyara and Rhyke feel organic? I had my issues with pacing but it was not as back as other works that I’ve read, but I felt like there was no build because Soraya was already 'in lust" with Rhyker for the entire book so.. no building romance here, and no slow burn. -Rhyker is such a good player for putting up with a 24yr that sounds like a 14yr ADD teenager high on hormones, spitting mortal realm language like she can’t read the room, multiple times. You would think that you would fcking shut up about your unrecognizable references and get a hint when knowing that you are in a different world but that would take a maturity level that this character does not have. -This will read like a YA melodrama by mid-end onwards: ‘we have this kiss’, ‘he is cold towards me’, ‘no, I cant have her’. They have a spicy scene and then, ‘no, we can’t’, ‘you kiss me and now you are cold again’, ‘no, I cant have you’. ‘I meant nothing?’, ‘I’m a nobody but he loved me’. 'I love him'. 'I love her'. 'She is mine'. It.Is.So.Annoying and SO childish! -_- -How many times each Reaper character is going to remind readers of their length as Reapers? Like… every other line?? About right.
Yes….. I think that I’ve just read a rough draft of what could have been a really cool book… but it was not ☹ I wish I could recommend it but until this books gets a MAJOR editing cleanse, this is a 'no'for me and I shall not continue reading this series.
****Must Read Amazing New Fantasy World**** ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶️🌶️🌶️
Reapers Ruin is an amazing new fantasy world with a new take on our favorite paranormal creatures and a really awesome magic system! Ok now for the part we are all waiting on!!!
We start out the book meeting Death an 800 year old reaper in Faelora. Reapers are souls in a state of purgatory not the most evil but not good either sent there to atone for their past. They exist in the shadowveil reaping souls who won’t pass on till they themselves get their door to pass on. Death is the longest standing reaper. In the shadowveil other reapers are scared of Death and that does not bother him he only exists to reap fae souls.
We meet Soraya as a soul Death is sent to reap when other reapers have not been able to complete her reaping.
Reapers Ruin is an amazing romantasy read that follows Death and Soraya on a quest to help to help her find her murder and find peace so she can get her door and move on. This is the slowest of slow burns that will edge you until you think you can’t handle it anymore but when it ignites it is it still keeps you on your toes. The fmc is a badass that finds her voice and the want to experience life through this journey. The mmc is a brooding reaper that has not felt anything or cared for anyone is 800 years. I cannot wait to continue this amazing series!!!
I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review!! Thank you K.T Martin for the amazing opportunity to read Reapers Ruin I cannot wait to continue the series!!
A shadow daddy, most feared reaper in the shadowveil is sent to reap a new soul that recently died. Once he’s there he sees she is an anomaly, a very beautiful one. He usually follows orders from the lords without hesitation, but this time he questions their reasoning. The remainder of the book goes off on their journey and new revelations that help in understanding why certain events happened. Great ending! Felt like i should rebel against everything i believe in.
I randomly came across this book, and was intrigued by the premise. As it's peak spooky season, it felt appropriate and I was ready to dive into a good reaper story.
Out the gate, it started out relatively strong from Rhyker's POV. I was instantly hooked, and was excited to dive into the world he inhabited.
Then we have Soraya come crashing into the ether.... or Shadowveil if you will. The minute she arrived in the story, I just was NOT feeling it. My single biggest issue with her was her syntax- it felt so out of place and I really struggle to think of modern women who actually talk like this. I don't know what it is about authors that attempt to write modern vernacular into fantasy books, but the dialogue came off juvenile, and cringe-y as hell. It absolutely rubbed me the wrong way.
My second major gripe was the over-description and repetitive descriptions of everything. Particularly while in the characters inner monologues. Ma'am, I didn't need the running dialogue to get the gist of what is going on; I got the picture about half a page ago. The inner dialogues constantly rambled into unnecessary tirades that were disjointed and grating.
I've certainly DNF'd books for less, I'm not sure why I bothered apart from I was hoping that Rhyker could single-handedly turn it around. He didn't.
**E-ARC provided by the author in exchange for an honest review. I left this review voluntarily.**
If you're looking for a romantasy that has not been done to death then you are in the right place.
"An afterlife without you would be worse than the flames in the deepest part of the underworld."
Reaper's ruin is a unique romantasy written by K.T. Martin. This book sucks you in from the very beginning. We are thrust into the shadowveil with Rhyker a.k.a. Death as he prepares to reap a soul who refused to move on after their death. After completing this assignment, he is sent to reap Soraya, who died for seemingly no reason. Instead of moving on, her soul ended up in Faelora and on the reapers' radar. Rhyker hesitates instead of immediately reaping Soraya. This hesitation is enough to send the duo on an adventure through Faelora seeking the reason behind Soraya's strange death. As they are navigating Fae court politics, their bond intensifies into something forbidden, bringing them both to the brink of destruction.
This book was a good time from cover to cover. The worldbuilding was gradual. We learn about Faelora and the shadowveil along with Soraya as their adventure unfolds. Yup, you heard it no 50 page info dump. This approach worked well with the paranormal elements of the story.
The plot moved along nicely. There were not any points in this story where I felt bored. There was spice in this book, but it added to the storyline. It did not feel forced or extraneous.
There is a definite grumpy sunshine vibe between the two main characters. The MMC Rhyker is a broody shadow daddy who exhibits clear touch her and die vibes, although he is often grumpy about it. The FMC Soraya is bubbly and tends to look on the bright side of things. She begins the book as an anomaly, not necessarily a strong FMC, but as her character develops, she grows stronger in many ways.
Some of the minor characters are absolute standouts, creating some of the best found family I've read of late.
The reaper magic is fresh and unique... shadow wings & tattoos... IYKYK. There is also elemental magic, mythical creatures, and fae politics.
The only thing I dont like about this book is that it is the 1st in a trilogy, so there will be some waiting to find out what happens next.
K.T. Martin did not miss with this one. I am so grateful for the opportunity to ARC read for her.
I am so glad to have been able to read this book as an arc:) This is one of the best books, that I've read so far this year. Gave this book a 5stars, though it definitely deserves more!!!!
The whole storyline is beautifully created, it never gets boring to read, because though it might be a calmer moment, the next second something mind blowing happens, some secrets get uncovered, new characters get discovered. Really loved the whole magical system, fae courts and the way how they operate and would love to get to know them more in the future.
Now the characters: the fmc - Soraya, such a beautiful soul, ifyky;) Thrusted into unknown she manages to get herself together and try to uncover what happened to her, bravery stepping into new world with her chin held high. And the biggest of her support and protector was the mmc - the big, brooding, grumpy shadow daddy Rhyker. Wow, that man is wow. I swooned how right from the first moment he decided to do everything in his power to help this poor soul to find peace, to find out what happened even if it means risking his own life. Trough the whole story their tension, banter gets better and better, the way how they care for each other warm my soul. They happened to be each other lights in their darkest moments. What's even more wonderful is that they managed to find people, who truly care for them, and will try to help them in their quests, creating deep and warm bonds, friendships.
And for those who look for spice - the spice was spicing here, though it was not a common occurrence, cause it is after all a slow burn.
Loved that the plot was really well balanced between love, romance line and the quests, secrets, battles. I thoroughly enjoyed myself while reading this book, and can't wait for the rest of the book to come out!!! So, don't wait and run, grab this book and immerse yourself in this beautiful romantasy world, full of dark tension, secrets that could change lives, deep and strong love, amazing and interesting characters.
Reaper’s Ruin by K.T. Martin – a world I want to live in and characters I’d die for (okay, maybe not literally, but close) 😊 K.T. Martin has delivered a romantasy that reaches into the afterlife and pulls out something extraordinary. This isn’t just a love story—it’s a collision of fate, rebellion, and redemption wrapped in shadow magic. Soraya, a soul who shouldn’t exist, and Rhyker, the cold reaper sent to erase her, make for one of the most emotionally charged duos I’ve read in a long time. The slow-burn tension between them feels earned, powerful, and completely ruinous—in the best way. Rhyker’s journey from merciless executioner to emotionally wrecked protector is poetry with claws. I couldn’t stop reading—every page had me breathless, laughing, or clutching my Kindle like it held my soul. If you told me a reaper romance would break my heart, heal it, and then shatter it all over again, I wouldn’t have believed you… until Rhyker. And Soraya? She’s sharp, hilarious, and so full of fight. Her Earth references were gold—I snorted more than once. The realm of Faelora is beautifully brutal, steeped in ancient secrets, fae politics, and forbidden longing. The stakes feel massive, and yet the moments of humor and razor-sharp banter make it feel intimate too. Highlights: • “Shadow daddy” energy meets heart-shattering tenderness • Murder mystery woven with magic and rebellion • A forbidden romance that makes death question his duty • One-liners that genuinely made me laugh out loud If you like your romantasy with soul-deep yearning, unbreakable heroines, and enemies-to-lovers dynamics that rip you to shreds, this book should be on your radar. I’m already stalking release updates for book two.
This romantasy is going straight to my top favourite books. All I can say is that I just met a new Shadow Daddy ❤️
If you enjoy reading a book that covers all from below, then this book might be for you: Sunshine FMC Grumpy & Morally grey MMC Forced proximity Intense Yearning Slow-burn tension that ignites Soul-deep connections Shadow daddy with soft spots Forbidden romance that defies realms Magic Fae Courts Found family
The storyline was engaging and easy to follow, I felt every emotion, I giggled and kicked my feet. From my point of view the story was unique and original. It's as if YOU, the real-life person, were teleported right now to a magical land. It would take you some time to get used to the new surroundings, right? That's exactly how it is in the book at the begining. The female character Soraya is so funny and has so many funny lines full of references from our real lives that I started to like her instantly. And the fact that the male character Rhyker doesn't quite understand some of her words makes things even more enjoyable and funny. A standout character that also got my attention was Taelon, that is also a reaper and I definitelly need to read more about him and the rest of the members of the group 😉 I can not wait to read the rest of the books from the series, I am a huge fan now. ❤️
This was an ARC provided by K.T Martin and I am so happy for the opportunity, this was a great story, a five star read for me.
This book was really good. I was lucky enough to receive my copy as an ARC and I was not disappointed.
The premise behind the story is a fresh soul that has entered Faelora is assigned to long time reaper Rhyker. He’s been around the block enough (800 years to be exact) that he has earned the nickname “Death”. Rhyker is sent to reap Soraya. A soul that has evaded every other reaper sent after her. When he meets her he finds out she is just freshly deceased, hasnt made peace with anything, and hasnt had a chance to find her door.
He decides that since the whole situation is off he is going to buy her some time by trying to help her. One thing leads to another and they end up falling for each other.
I will start off by saying the couple negatives I have. There were scenes where it described what Rhyker was wearing and the phrase describing how the clothes accentuated his broad shoulders and lean waist was mentioned every time. The other picky part is that Rhyker would say a statement and then the response was the same statement from Soraya just worded a bit different. Just made it feel like it was filler rather than contributing to the story.
The good though, besides the story itself being amazing? The world building was on point. There wasnt too much to make the story boring, but enough that everything made sense. The plot, 5 stars there. Rhyker as a dark shadow daddy MMC, yes please.
Im definitely excited to see where this series goes.
was thankful enough to receive an Arc of this book, and let me just say, I absolutely LOVED it.
“Because I refused to lose her now that I’d finally found something - someone - worth existing for.” UGH MY HEART CANNOT TAKE IT.
The plot of this book was unlike anything I have read - it was such a good premise.
Soraya Peterman - 24 year old nursing student, rule follower. Dead without an idea how or why. One minute at home watching Netflix, then the next spawning in Faelora with Shadow-Daddies (reapers) trying to extinguish her sole from existence.
Rhyker - 800 year old shadow daddy. (Have my babies honestly!!) The most trusted reaper of them all, the most successful reaper. Sent to reap Soraya from existence. But comes to the realization that something was wrong. The veil gods had messed up?? A soul couldn’t be reaped without ample time to find their door. And somewhere along the way, falls in love with Ms. sunshine & does any and everything he can to protect her.
The yearning in this book, the magic, the realms, the courts, everything about this book was exceptional. This book was a solid 4.5 star read for me. I loved it, there were some parts I just didn’t enjoy, but for the base of the book, 1000% recommend reading it. Hands down and amazing book that I was lucky enough to read and receive an arc of. I cannot wait for book 2 to see how the story continues. ALSO, I LOVE TAELON.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
(Disclaimer) I received this book for free as an ARC reader, the author has no influence over my review. This is my first read by the author. I’m not an English native speaker and my review might be influenced by this.
Reaper Rhyker is the afterlife’s most ruthless weapon. Cold, efficient and merciless. He’s harvested tens of thousands of souls without blinking. He is sent to erase the girl who defies the rules of existence. When the human Soraya dies, she expects peace. Instead, her soul tears into Faelora, a realm of shadows and magic where she’s invisible to the living, and reapers hunt anomalies like her. She’s the soul that shouldn’t exist, and every moment she lingers is borrowed time. To save her Rhyker and Soroya must solve her murder.
She is innocent and full of wonder of the fae world, typical sunshine-character. He is dangerous, a bit grumpy and cold. The dual POV gives great insight to both characters thoughts, feelings and personal evolvement.
The details in the description of nature, creatures and people in Faelora makes it easy to imagine the beauty and magic of the fae realm.
I felt the pace of the story progress was a bit slow in the first two thirds of the book, but the pace picked up and and the story became more exciting and interesting in the last third of the book.
There were some surprising twists and turns in the story throughout the book.
I will probably read the other books in the trilogy.
"Hot and freaking scary" "Is it wrong that I’m attracted to a guy who’s essentially a serial killer?" God, death has messed with my moral compass
" in that moment, with perfect, terrifying clarity, I realized: I would break every law in existence for her. I would face obliteration without flinching"
Soraya is out her living her steamy fantasy books in real life (death actually lol) and happens to have found her own bonified shadow daddy! Approaching the world with a childlike wonder.
Rhyker is a reaper made of shadow with a dark compass to match. He comes with a brooding personality, lightning colored eyes, and a beautiful face.
Together they compliment each other sharing traits with each other to shape a true pair that is wholly believable.
K.T. really did something here. Within the first 30% I care about the characters even the side characters, the world, and was invested in the plot. The writing was a perfect blend of worlds. It's hard for writers to sell a modern world meets fantasy world and K.T. did so believably and beautifully. This story takes on a trajectory I wasn't expecting nor one I have seen in a romantic fantasy. A breathe of fresh air for sure and I can't wait to see what comes next!
Welcome to the world of Faelora, where souls that have yet to move on meet the end of the Reaper's scythe!
This is a very slow burn romantacy that does end on a cliff hanger. We are introduced to Soraya and Rhyker, and a love story for the romantics at heart. Soraya is a soul that has literally just died and Rhyker is the Reaper that has been assigned the task of reaping her soul into non existence.
Rhyker lays eyes on the beautiful Soraya and becomes transfixed on her. Soraya is crying stating that she just learned of her demise and Rhyker is curious as to why he had been sent to reap a fresh soul. The more time that passes, the more these 2 fall for each other.
They decide the way for Soraya to move into the after life is to figure out who killed her. During their investigation they finally give into temptation and take their relationship to the next level!
We go through all of this for them to find their way to the Veil Lords who are highly upset that Soraya still exists. We then end up with Soraya and Rhyker being joined by some friends and now there is a new mystery to solve! Will be waiting for book 2 to see where this story line goes!
Holy Books!!!! What an amazing adventure! I had the pleasure of being an ARC reader for this story it was absolutely riveting!!! Hooked from the very beginning. K.T Martin has made an epic Fantasy adventure that i think everyone needs to go on! This story gives you everything! Forced proximity, fated mates, grumpy sunshine shadow daddy MMC, with sweet sunshine and a determined MFC. Touch her and die ☠️vibes, new worlds 🌎 Epic fight scenes! Fae magic new friends, risk it all for love. Slow burn and Spice 🔥 perfectly set in the story. To secondary characters that leaving you wanting more of them too. Not only could I not put this book down it was like watching a movie in my head every time I was reading. K.T has an incredible way with words, I felt fully consumed reading. Death in order to find life and love ❤️ to find the adventure meant to on. The scene with only 1 bed 🛌 had me giggling! The fight that had me thinking there is no way out 😱 To the epic ending that is not an ending but just the end of the chapter! I can NOT wait to read more. Thank you K.T Martin for sharing your incredible story with us! I'll be waiting for more. 😍
I loved the fae meets the underworld vibes! But mixed with perfect human banter/and a slow burn that didn’t disappoint.
While I agree with many of the reviews about this book having several repeated lines and phrases, it didn’t take away much personally for me. Rhyker was the perfect shadow daddy reaper, even when he started becoming soft for our mfc. The mfc wasn’t my favorite and is much more of the typical “save me” female. But if you don’t mind that typical character, this book was overall fun! The magic system I enjoyed, and felt a little different than other books with the same theme. The side characters I wish we had more of! Towards the end they get more time but it didn’t feel like it was enough. Tealon i absolutely found hilarious with his flirty give no F’s personality. A true ride or die. And while yes there was to many repeated phrases, I believe it was worth pushing through to see how the story developed. The spice wasn’t too heavy and was the typical slow burn without making it only spice heavy. The cliffhanger wasn’t huge, but im excited to see how it’s written!
After hearing the tropes for this book, I knew I had to read it. Mainly, a slow burn with a shadow daddy? Sign me up! The story was intriguing and I was genuinely unsure what might come next. That doesn't mean there wasn't SOME predictability in the plot. For instance, of course the main characters will eventually get together. But I wasn't expecting a few of the plot twists. I especially liked the comedic relief found in one of the side characters. Also, the FMC is pretty funny at times as well. I finished fhe book wishing the 2nd were already out so I know what happens next. I will 100% be reading it when it comes out. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because some of the inner monologue feels repeated a few too many times, too often. Also, there were a couple of points I wish more explanation was given for things the characters are encountering/going through. Some of that though I could definitely see being put into the next book or later books when more is revealed. Overall, a great book.
K.T Martin has done simply an amazing job of writing a completely unique Romantasy. I loved the different perspective, it was refreshing to read how the FMC is desperate to find her ‘door’ after leaving her modern day existence unexpectedly. Loved the mix between modern day and Fae, there were some great one liners. Particularly loved the humour regarding one bed tropes, after all who doesn’t love a one bed trope?!!
Death is completely swoonworthy, which is a sentence I never thought I’d write! He is the epitome of the qualities I adore in an MMC, mixed with the plot twists which made him completely endearing. I really enjoyed the dual POV’s and it wasn’t just a few MMC POV’s but a great mix between both Death and Soraya.
I feel there are some great side characters who I hope make an appearance in subsequent books. I genuinely can’t wait to read how the story progresses.
I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of this book and can’t wait to read the next!

I never thought that I would say the following words “I want my own Reaper”. I want to be cherished, loved, and protected. While he tries so hard to keep me at arms length. This amazing shadow daddy left me weak in the knees.
Reapers Ruin has a unique story line that I am enjoying immensely. Something I was able to guess but this book has a few twist that I don’t see coming.
K.T. Martin really surprised me with her storytelling skills. I lived for the yearning, romance, action, the adventure, and the secrets that are not so secret. I loved that she still provided an amazing ending for book one while also giving a cliff hanger. She left me satisfied while still wanting for book two.
The only reason I am giving a 4 ⭐️ is because there are moments or sections of this book that gets a little long or repetitive. However it is still an amazing read and I recommend it.
Before I start I just wanna say a big thank you to K.T. Martin for sending me an ARC!!
Now for the review : OH MY GOD I AM OBSESSED WITH THIS BOOK!!!! I feel like it’s been soooooooo long since I’ve really truly enjoyed a fantasy book like this one! You get Superb Writing, great world building, ugh everything about this book was just again AMAZING. Okay so Rhyker is dare I say now my #1 book boyfriend 🤭 He is the definition of “I will burn this world down to save her” Just seeing his cold stone demeanor slowly unravel because of Soraya’s Sunshine personality was so beautiful. The tender moments between them made me want to cry 😭 and his proclamations of love to her oh gosh it was so beautifully written. I really can’t put into enough words of how much I loved this book. Do yourself and favor and GO AND GET THIS BOOK NOW PLS TY! I can see this book becoming a HUGEEEE success!!! And I can’t wait to find out what the next book will be like! 🤗🤗
“Death wasn’t the end of our story. It was only the beginning.”
it’s been hard not posting about this new novel. I got the ARC earlier this month. This Romantasy is a murder mystery in a fantasy world. When Sorays’s spirit refuses to go quietly into that good night, Rhyker, an 800 year old shadow daddy reaper, is assigned to rein her in. In stead he becomes an “I’ll rip the veil apart for you” protector. Together they set about solving the mystery of Soraya’s murder, hoping to bring her spirit peace.
There is great chemistry between the two as well as supreme world clashing, since Soraya is basically from the modern day mortal realm and her spirit pulls her to a unique fae reaping realm. The spice is a low simmer and the witty repartee is fun. There are some fun side characters and the beginning of a found family. I think this is a cute little romp with a unique take on what happens to souls.
This book has a fun and exciting setup, with a good mix of sarcasm, suspense, and steamy scenes. The story starts off strong, and the mystery of her death kept me interested the whole time.
The story follows a wild, party-loving influencer who dies and ends up in the afterlife as a Grim Reaper. She’s stuck between worlds, trying to solve her own murder while also dealing with reaper politics, drama with demons, and figuring out her new reality.
The romance in the book was very spicy (🔥🔥🔥)! Sometimes it took the spotlight away from the character growth but that is something I was 100% ok with!!! Still, the cliffhanger at the end totally got me! I’m definitely interested to see what happens in the rest of the trilogy.
If you like paranormal mysteries with a bold main character, some romance, and a twisty journey through the afterlife, I’d definitely recommend this book!
JFC, I devoured this book like it devoured my soul. I could not get enough of this refreshing Romantasy 😍😍. I’m so grateful for the opportunity to be an ARC reader. It was so refreshing to see a different approach to Romantasy. We embark on a little journey with Death(he's been a reaper for 800 years) and Soraya(she's different to say the least) and oooh when I go this may be the only way I want to find my door 😂😂. I've never giggled so much because of irl references in my life and the absolute confusion our MMC has. Not to mention we have a FMC who finally just accepts her fate and rolls with the punches. But what does it mean for Death when he starts to realize things aren’t exactly what he’s always thought, and why is this human girl the only thing to get under his skin in 800 years? I highly recommend this book for anyone that is looking for something a little different than high fantasy but still getting that mystical experience. I cannot wait to see what's next!
I was kindly sent this ARC from the author. The minute I read about the story, I knew it was for me.
Death is sent to reap a soul but instead falls in love with her and vows to protect her at all costs. What’s not to love!?
Soraya is from our modern day world and in death has been transported to Faelora ( Fae Realm). She can’t find her door to the afterlife and so a story unfolds of this journey to find her peace.
Rhyker (Death) promises to help her with this task and keep her safe which proves harder as the story progresses.
Loved the world building. Elemental magic and Fae Realms with side characters who you will totally want to spend more time with. Kings, Queens, Princes, Princesses, Warriors, Sorceresses and much much more.
The story doesn’t end on a major cliffhanger, more of a setting up for the next adventure in the next book. Which I cannot wait to read.
I was graced with an eARC by K.T. Martin and these opinions are my own!!
Ummmm stop. This was epic. Reapers. Death himself. Realm walkers. Murder mystery. The adventure of an afterlifetime!!! A Shadow DADDY that you will literally fall and swoon for! Delicious spice but still plot forward.
This was so fun and unique!! The banter was just 👌🏻 chef’s kiss!!! The romance. The found family! Should be enemies to lovers. IT HAS IT ALL!!!
I can’t wait for the next one!!! Please get out there and read this, it should be released July 23, 2025!!! I need to talk about this with someone like yesterday!!!
Reaper’s Ruin hooked me from the first page and didn’t let go. The worldbuilding is immersive, the characters are unforgettable, and the tension...both emotional and romantic is perfectly paced.
I loved the heroine’s confusion as she unraveled the truth, and the male lead’s growing doubt about the system added real depth. There’s a hidden connection to Stormcourt that hit hard (no spoilers!), and standout side characters like Taelon and Selyse made the story even stronger.
Yes, there is spice...but I’m not rating it. Everyone’s scale is different, just know it’s there.
I read this in three days only because adulting got in the way. If you love realm-hopping romantasy with heart, mystery, and heat—Reaper’s Ruin belongs on your shelf.
