Veronica Martinez has wanted one thing her whole life.
Adventure.
The problem is she’s too afraid to let herself have it. When it comes to school and her career there’s no problem going after what she wants, but spontaneity is a different story. Although she was always skittish as a child, losing her big brother at the age of twelve only put her further into her shell. So much so, that the last time she remembers having adventure was the day of her brother’s funeral with the most popular and mischievous boy in middle school. It was a day she would never forget, especially since that boy ghosted her in the weeks that followed.
Now, over eight years later, that adventure comes back to her in the form of honey-brown eyes, various hair colors, and tattoos.
While he tries to give her the adventure she’s always wanted, she tries to get close enough to let him have his, but his past may get in the way of that.
This book was excellent. It is one of those compelling reads that keeps you engaged and eager to learn more. I appreciate how the book authentically portrays the Hispanic community, highlighting its traditions, love, laughter, grief and strong sense of family, as well as the gossiping nature that many of us can relate to. The story resonated with me personally, especially as a young college student adjusting to a new city, facing the uncertainties of the unknown, and embracing new adventures.
Wow! This book packs all the feels with love, grief, laughter, family (with their strengths and weaknesses) and most importantly – adventure.
