Jean has a penchant for the misunderstood, be it sharks, microbes, or wounded characters. A scientist by training, she now spends her days as an author and champion for her children. She draws from her interest in history, science, the outdoors, and her family for inspiration. She serves on the local library board of trustees and is an advocate for community, inclusion, and neurodiversity awareness. Her books span the genres of historical romance (with mystical/fantasy elements), contemporary romance, women’s fiction, suspense, and friendship fiction.

A nature enthusiast who adores the national parks, Jean has also written for family-oriented travel magazines and websites. When not writing, she enjoys gardening, tackling the biggest mountains in New England, and going on adventures with her husband and children, while taking snapshots of the world around her and daydreaming about the next story. This was my second book by Jean Grant and I was completely immersed in it, as I was with her other book SILENT CREEK. I love her writing style and the way she can bring you right into the story. Helen uses letter writing as a way to cope with her grievances. She deposits them in the mail with no address. Well, Gabe, who's an author struggling to come up with ideas for his next book, finds the letter and uses them as inspiration for his book. He feels that he is falling for the writer of these letters without ever even meeting her. He longs to find her, and while out on his book tour, they end up finally meeting. Gabe is so much more than what Helen ever expects. and they really hit it off. As they become friends, their feelings towards each other begin to grow. I loved the connection between Gabe and Helen, and the small town setting was so perfect and vivid. Such an enjoyable book to escape into.

Jean Grant has always been a favorite when it comes to blending romance, women's fiction, and a little bit of mystery. Letters to Nobody did not disappoint. I had the pleasure of being an early reader and watching Gabe and Helen's romance blossom into something more than either could have anticipated. I loved the emotion from the mystery of the town as well as how the letters played into everything. I loved why Helen wrote the letters as an outlet for her to process her emotions. The two POV’s were great and I think it really helped understand where Gabe was coming from. The romance, emotion, passion for the library it all pulled me in. The way Helen had to fight for the library to stay hurt my heart. While we didn’t get excerpts from Gabe’s book we got enough about what happened and I enjoyed seeing the letters themselves. The writing was beautiful and the way the themes really shown through.

Helen Wright has got a lot on her plate. She is desperately trying to keep her library running, but when its maintenance bills are quickly becoming as long as her arm, and its relevance and use are constantly questioned by people in her town (Miriam, I’m looking at you), Helen struggles to see a way to save it. Added to this is the fact that a new bestseller keeps being waved under her nose, a bestseller that is clearly based on letters Helen wrote to help her deal with her grief. When an opportunity arises to confront the author on the thievery, Helen can’t pass it up. But the author is not at all what she expected.
Enter Gabe Dennehy. Charming, easy-going, and smooth-talking. He disarms Helen easily, and she begins to question whether a confrontation is even worth it, especially when his help becomes invaluable in saving the library that she loves so much. What she doesn’t realise is that Gabe is looking for his mysterious letter writer, and he will stop at nothing until he finds her.

This book has a really awesome premise, and I thought that the characters were sweet and eclectic (Kayley was my all-time favourite - what a cheerleader). I especially liked how vibrant and alive the small town felt, and Grant definitely brought to the forefront the great travesty of these small communities losing their identities and charm through the closure of places like small libraries. There was a lot of attention to small-town politics and how big corporations can stick their nose in with the promise of making things better, only to completely eradicate everything that makes these small towns unique. I would have, however, liked a little more of the romance and connection between Gabe and Helen. Although they spent a lot of time together and talked often, I felt that many of their conversations were again centred around the town and its heritage; it might have been nice to have more of their emotional connection shine through in these moments. Still, Helen and Gabe were really awesome characters, and I liked their little historical hunt. The letters that Helen wrote, which Gabe used for his inspiration, were also incredibly touching.

I think this book would be perfect for anyone who loves a light romance, with plenty of small-town politics. The drama is light, and though it deals with some very heavy topics, I think Grant handles them in a very sensitive and thought-provoking way, and as always, I have to commend the use of trigger warnings at the front of the novel

Jean M. Grant has crafted a beautiful and emotionally charged book that draws the reader in from the very first page.

Helen, a librarian in a small town, has faced profound grief. To cope, she penned letters filled with her pain and sorrow, letters that were never meant to be read. Unbeknownst to her, these letters found their way to writer Gabe Dennehy, who used them as the basis for a successful fiction novel. 

Gabe is on a mission to find the mysterious M.H. He wants to know the woman behind the sad but beautiful letters, and he thinks he is getting closer to discovering her identity. 

Helen is dealing with numerous issues, including her mother’s health, and members of the town’s Select Board are pressuring her to sell the land on which the library sits to develop it for new houses, as the town faces deep budget cuts. Helen refuses since the library has been in her family for generations. Now, she has been contacted by Gabe’s agent. She wants to have a book signing for the book in Helen’s library. Helen agrees because she will finally get the chance to confront him. However, his charm and good looks disarm her, and she finds herself going to dinner with him after the signing. As they spend more time together, he even begins to help her find a way to save her beloved library. I loved the friendship that developed into romance between them. I kept crossing my fingers that when he discovered Helen was his M.H., it wouldn’t ruin everything that had developed between them.

The writing in this book is phenomenal. The author’s writing is so descriptive that I found myself there right along with the characters. The characters were well-developed, and I appreciated that Helen and Gabe told their own story. 

Please read the acknowledgment at the end of the book. I love it when authors share how they came up with the book. This one is quite special. I love her love of libraries. They are the heart of a community, offering a range of services to their citizens.

The descriptive narration is filled with tons of detail and emotion. Through the narration, I got to experience life in a small town. Reading this book brought the feeling of community to life.

The characters are well-written and are a fountain of emotion. I connected with them all but especially Helen. She’s a wonderful heroine and so realistic. She’s gone through such turmoil but it’s her strength which truly makes me love reading from her point of view. The other characters fill out the story and add depth with humor.

"Letters to Nobody" is the story of Gabe and Helen, written in dual perspective. Helen is the author of a number of letters she wrote to family and friends as part of her emotional healing. Instead of burning the letters like so many do, she put them in envelopes without addresses or postage, and popped them in the mailbox. She had no idea that they would eventually end up in the hands of Gabe, a struggling author trying to find inspiration for his new book. He took the letters, having no idea who wrote them, and used them to build the characters and story line he was writing. The book became a best seller and during his book tour he was determined to use clues in the letters to find their writer.

Helen read this new book and suspected the author had used her letters. When she and Gabe cross paths at a book signing, they begin to develop a friendship. "Letters to Nobody" follows them and the ups and downs of their relationship as it grows and changes with each secret that comes to life.

Jean M. Grant has created an entire town of loveable (and loathsome) characters in this novel. In addition to a budding romance unfolding, readers are thrust into small town politics and family struggles happening both on and off the page. Despite some predictability, as we come to love in a good romance novel, there are some unexpected turns and bumps in the road. Helen's journey in particular is developed through the sharing of her letters throughout the story. Getting to read what she wrote and Gabe used gives insight into both of them.

Ms. Grant has managed to create multi-layered and realistic characters, many of whom can be related to real life people we might experience in our lives. I found myself rooting for the good guys, wanting to boo the corrupt, and wishing karma on the gossipers. This is a great light-hearted read.

I really enjoyed this heartfelt story. It was well written and the story evolves organically.

I loved Helen, who was such a relatable and endearing character, navigating her heartbreak with a mix of strength and raw honesty. Gabe, on the other hand, took me a bit to warm up to as his initial arrogance put me off a little and it wasn’t until that gave away some vulnerability, that I changed my mind. Their interactions are filled with tension, charm, and a slow-burning chemistry that kept me invested.
The novel also raised some thought-provoking ideas as it delved into themes of creative ownership and the ethics of storytelling, and the boundaries between personal experiences and artistic inspiration. It also comes with a warning for those who might be triggered by topics of mental illness, grief, and references to the ultimate of self-harm, stillbirth, and chronic illness.

How will I do this book justice ?! I just loved getting lost in the pages, the letters , the town and the people ❣️

So Habe writes a book and people are gobbling it up but what they don’t know is that he used the letters that someone wrote to her loved ones and friends and they’re really heartfelt but she posted them unaddressed so they were meant to be destroyed and well we know how that went 🙈 anywho he’s now on tour and his agent is pushing for book 2 and he’s fallen in love with a woman he doesn’t know , well he knows her by her penmanship and he’s wanting g to find her …..

Helen came home to look after her mum and to try and save the privately owned library from the land hungry Miriam and I’m not a fan I must say but Helen is dealing with it in her stride and then to add to her woes someone has taken her letters and written a book that’s now so sought after , she is on a mission to find out why and how then she meets the author and he’s actually rather nice and there’s something blooming between them 🤷‍♀️🤪what a beautiful mess !

We get to ready done of the letters and the one Helen wrote her dad had me howling , it was messy I’m not even going to try and deny the mess I was and while I feel her frustration any this invasion I also appreciate the way Gabe kept the really private things private and he does feel guilty , again it’s a beautiful mess 🙈

I found this story to be an enjoyable and engaging read, and I found the book hard to put down. Librarian Helen is shocked to discover that the storyline of a bestselling novel mirrors her own life. Helen believes that her ‘grief letters’ she wrote as therapy have somehow ended up in journalist turned novelist Gabe Dennehy’s hands. She then learns that the author himself is coming to her town as part of his book tour. Gabe is using this tour to find the mysterious letter writer that gave him inspiration for his successful book. With only clues to follow he ends up in the sleepy town of Sanders Mill, hopeful of finding her. Meanwhile, Helen is determined to save the town’s library from the developers.

Having met the author Helen is surprised by Gabe’s genuine charm and kindness and recruits him to her cause. However, they soon get caught up in small town politics, but their shared determination to save the library also brings the pair closer together. I was hooked throughout by this heartwarming and at times emotional story. The small town of Sanders Mill was brought vividly to life through the descriptive narrative, making me feel fully immersed in the story. Helen and Gabe were both realistic, likeable and relatable characters, and their chemistry came across in the narrative. There are some content warnings to be aware of, but these difficult issues are handled sensitively as part of the overall storyline.

Letters to Nobody by Jean M.Grant is a story very different from any i have ever read before. Its based in a small town where every one knows everyone and a very large number of the townsfolks lineage can be traced back to the 1800's.

Helen is the library owner. She has endured a great deal of loss in her life and wrote letters to each person she grieves. She mailed those letters with no senders address and no return address as a way to address and overcome her grief. The letters were never meant to be read. She researched what happens to mail like hers. And they should have been destroyed.

7 years after mailing those letters, they become the basis of a novel. When the author, Gabe, does a book tour, and her library is a stop in his tour, Helen becomes determined to investigate exactly how her letters became the basis of his book. However she is experiencing a great deal of stress surrounding her library and home life. This gets in the way of her actually adressing the book and letter. Gabe goes very far out of his way to help her solve her problems. As she gets to know him, she falls in love with him. Little does she know, he fell in love with her through the letters, before he ever met her. And his tour is actually him doing his own investigation. He wants to find and meet the woman who wrote the letters.

I cant say enough good stuff about this book! Buy it! Read it! Because it is a 5 star read you will not be able to put down!

This was such a cute story and I loved the characters! Librarian Helen is trying to keep the struggling library afloat. They are always the first to get hit with budget cuts and she thinks this might finally be it. When her friend calls her about this new book that’s blowing up, Helen can hardly believe it! It can’t be. Is this really based on her letters? The letters no one is ever supposed to read? Who is this person anyway? Furious and angry and upset, she isn’t sure what to do and maybe it’s her imagination running wild. But when the library is contacted for this author to make an appearance she knows she has to do something! With all the hype this book and now author appearance is bringing just maybe this is what the city needs to prove the library’s need! Helen decides she must confront him about his novel and figure out what happened that someone read her private letters. Knowing what she knows about how he got his storyline, she decides to enlist his help to save the library. Each one is sleuthing the other for their own motive and career and yet it might just be what the other and this town needed.

I have never wondered where those letters go, the ones written to a deceased person or Santa or character so this was such an interesting storyline! This was a really beautiful story about healing, growth and finding love when you least expect it.
The author writing style is so beautiful that as a reader you feel every emotion that the characters are going through. The story is told from 2 different perspectives which i also love as it feels like you are getting the complete story from both of our main characters.
This story follows Helen and Gabe.
Gabe is a writer, he has been struggling for a while that is until he comes across some letters which spark his creative juices and turned into a best seller. Now his editor is wanting him to produce the same magic again and Gabe feels the only way to do that is to find the mystery writer of the letters.
When Helen was going through grief and struggling with her loss the way she found to deal and process that was by writing letters. Letter that were never meant to be read. Letters that were meant to be destroyed. However when her friend tells her about a best selling book which is so close to her letters it's like they were being read Helen wants to know how the other got a hold of them.
When the author turns up in her town on a book tour she is determined to confront him but the prospect of her library being shut down puts confrontation to the back of her mind. As Gabe and Helen work together to save the library they also get closer and start to rewrite history and create a new story filled with hope, happiness and the possibility of love.

This book completely swept me up. Helen is such a relatable character, carrying old grief and trying to keep her quiet life together when everything suddenly tilts off balance. Finding out that her private letters somehow became the heart of a bestselling novel was such a gut-punch moment, and I felt every bit of her anger and confusion. But what really hooked me was how layered her emotions were as she got to know Gabe, the author who unintentionally cracked her heart wide open again.

Gabe was an absolute charmer, but what made him stand out was how genuinely kind he was. He could have come across as arrogant, but instead he felt warm and deeply human, which made it easy to understand why Helen’s walls started to crumble. Their slow shift from wary strangers to something more felt natural and heartfelt.

I also loved the backdrop of the small-town library and Helen’s mission to save it. The community vibe gave the whole story this cozy, comforting energy that balanced the heavier themes of grief and betrayal. Watching Helen rediscover her voice, not just in love but in standing up for what matters, was incredibly satisfying.

After experiencing heartbreaking loss, Helen began to write letters as a form of therapy. She then dropped them off in a mailbox, with no addresses or stamps, with the understanding (through her own research) that the letters would be destroyed. However, seven years later, her letters seem to have become the basis for a best-selling novel. When the author, Gabe Dennehey, is scheduled to come to her library as part of his press tour...she is determined to find out how he got the letters. But, when he arrives, she is torn between his warm personality and the fear of losing the library and her investigation into the letters is put on the back burner. What she doesn't know is that Gabe is doing his own investigation...to find the woman who wrote these letters. While these two get to know each other, and work together to save the library, they find themselves embroiled in small town politics and secrets. Can the feelings that have been growing survive?!?

This was a story that I instantly found myself pulled into...and didn't want to put down. The author does a great job of making the small town come to life...and make the characters believable. As someone who loves reading and loves books...a love story about an author and a librarian is right up my alley! I thoroughly enjoyed this story!

This is a great read. I found the characters lovable and the setting was well described to where you could actually picture yourself there. I love the narrative of this story. It is a dual point of view but what really hooked me was that one of the main characters uses letter writing as a way to deal with their emotions. I relate to that because I also write to deal with things that seem heavy or that bring me joy. The character then mails them to no one as a way to release their feelings. I probably wouldn't do that for the very reason that happens in this book. Someone finds them and reads them. That person then takes them to create books. I would be dead like dead, dead; if that happened to me. However, in this book they deal with it and end up meeting because there are feelings involved because of the writings. It is a small town romance which I love. The story keeps an even pace throughout. I didn't feel like it lagged or rushed anything. I couldn't put the book down because I had to know what happened. I might have felt some embarrassment for the character when their letters were read because, who wouldn't. However, that tells me that the author knows how to make the words connect with the reader. I went through a bunch of emotions reading this book and I can't wait to read another from this author.

From the first chapters, I was drawn in by the cozy small-town vibes and the endearing, quirky characters. I especially enjoyed the company of librarian Helen Wright and all her friends at the library.

The story is both a painful and redemptive journey for Helen, who discovers the letters she wrote to nobody, the ones she wrote down all her secrets in as a form of therapy, have been used in a new novel by Gabe Dennehy.

I really enjoyed this book. But I do have to say that if I was the main character Helen, I think I would have been madder but being soft hearted and nice, I can relate to her in many ways. Helen writes some letters that she never intends to send. Writing what was in her heart and then releasing and moving on was her goal. But she also didn't want to burn them, so she puts them with no postage, no address and no return address into a postal service box. She knows that they will end up going to where all the letters to Santa and such go to get destroyed. Except her letters don't end up where she thought they would. They find their way into the hands of a writer, who ends up using a good chunk of them to write a book! Not only that but she's on the verge of losing her family-owned library and its land to the town to build new community grounds. The library has been passed down through their family, and she's determined not to lose it. Gabe, the author of the book didn't think the book would take off like it did. He feels guilty for using some stories from the mysterious letters. Using his book tour as cover he goes searching for the writer of the letters. Helen and Gabe meet but neither knows who each other is at first. Lots of twists and turns. Boy of boy does it get good!! You will have to read it to find out more!! It's really good!!

Intriguing, Intelligent, Engaging

Jean Grant creates an intricate tale of romance and self-discovery that unfolds engagingly, suspensefully, and hopefully. Several years back, in a time of crisis, Helen Wright penned several letters to people who hurt her or she had hurt, in order to work out her grief. She puts these letters in the mail with no address so they end up at the Dead Letter Office in Atlanta, where a postal worker finds them, and, moved by their powerful emotions, shares them with a writer friend to help him break his block. Writer Gabe Dennehy turns the letters into a moving novel that becomes a best seller. Now he and Helen are propelled to meet: she to give hell to the writer who has violated her private life and he to make amends to the mystery woman whom he feels he has exploited. Jean Grant’s story deftly shifts their two perspectives to create an intriguing and emotional tale of two people falling in love and coming to find self-respect and self-knowledge. An apt sprinkling of humor prevents the book from ever sinking into bathos. Setting her novel in a central Massachusetts rural town, Grant perfectly brings to life the warmth of small-town community as well as the treachery of small-town politics, creating a backdrop that lends reality to her story of love, forgiveness, and self-discovery.

This. Book. Is. So. CUTE!

Meet Helen and Gabe. Helen is a small town librarian who just wants to keep her family legacy alive and to stop herself from reliving all the heartbreak and trauma that lead her back to her little town, and Gabe is a travelling journalist who is simply looking for a reason to life - a muse, if you will. Gabe gets his big break when he stumbles upon a number of dead letters that just call to him, and he fictionalizes them into a story. Turns out that those letters were the result of a theraputic cleansing of Helen trying to get all her pain out, but when she thought they would be destroyed if not properly stamped and addressed, they ended up in Gabe's hands.
The small town autumn feels, the coffee shop meet-cute, the subtle tension and flirting, the eventual conflict and subsequent make up - all of it was perfection.
Very easy read, amazing description of not only scenery but also of the historic significance of the town - It is very obvious that a LOT of research went into the various aspects of this story as the detail was just too much to be made up off the top of the author's head.
I laughed, I cried, I found myself smiling at the book. 10/10 would recommend and will likely read again.

I enjoyed reading this romance book from beginning to end. I enjoyed how this author’s creative characters are written with a lot of heart and how they popped off each page. I found this book to be well written and hard to put down which made it easy to read. This is a story about what happens when anonymous letters between two people turn into more than either one expected. Helen has been writing anonymous letters and thinking they were tossed but the truth is they have landed in Gabe’s hands. Gabe, an author, has been looking for this mysterious letter writer while on tour with his book. Now that he has come to her town, Helen uses this as a way to pull into saving the library from destruction. What will happen when things get political and pull them together? Helen and Gabe’s journey is a slow building and has great growth throughout. They are strong, connectable, engaging characters that have great chemistry and attraction. Their story has great entertainment value which just added to my enjoyment. This is a fast paced, engaging story and one you don’t want to miss. I look forward to seeing what is next for this author. I highly recommend this book.

When said bestselling book’s author, Gabe, comes to town for his book tour looking for clues to help him find the women who wrote the letters that inspired his book ….. well you will have to read it to find out.
Honestly, I feel this book is more of a love letter to small town communities, neighbors who check in on you and bring zuch mash, celebrating differences as strengths, and people who celebrate the history right in front of them than it is the love story of the two main characters. I loved the characters, the drama of small-town life, the heartfelt community of Sanders Mill, and the mystery of it all. It is a happily ever after romance for a reason, you can guess how certain things will turn out, but that won’t stop you from being completely invested in the story. Definitely a recommended read!

Letters to Nobody by Jean M. Grant. This is such a different love story set in a small town but its a very good love story. It's the story of Helen who is trying her hardest to keep the local library up and running but its bills are beginning to become insurmountable. Also with the boom of the internet people just don't use the library like they used to. Helen decides to write letters to no one and write down her deepest grievances and gripes. They make her feel better and no one will know she wrote them. That is until Gabe a writer that has a bad case of writers block finds these letters and they inspire him to write a new book. When Helen finds out her letters have been published she is devastated and feels betrayed. When she has the chance to confront Gabe she does but is pleasantly surprised by Gabe and the two become fast friends. The more time they spend together they more they realize they are so much alike. Gabe has felt like he knows Helen since he found her letters and is in love with her. Will they two find their happy every after together? Such a sweet, neat small town romance!

Grant leads her readers hooked with telling the story from dual perspectives. Will they figure out a historically relevant connection to save the library? Will their budding romance survive when the truth comes out about his writing muse? This is a must read for any who enjoy a small town romance with an intriguing mystery. A good light hearted read that will tug on your emotions.
