"ALWAYS IN POWER, ALWAYS UNDER SIEGE"Fugelsang goes on, but the point is that being "Under Siege" is the endless, whiny battle cry of the corrupt powerful — whether the far-right fundamental Christian or the autocratic political demagogue, (and sadly, in today's America they have become inseparable) — looking to shift the focus from their own attrocities to the nebulous and often imaginary threat of "the other:" immigrants, Democrats/liberals in general, homosexuals, the media, late night comics (!), Muslims, Jews, the poor, the sick…on anything and anyone other than themselves.
"Politicians use the 'Christianity under attack' rhetoric to secure votes and consolidate power. By framing themselves as warriors in a spiritual battle, they thirstily pander to a sense of tribal loyalty among a certain kind of voter. Televangelists and megachurch pastors (and politicians) have long capitalized on the victimhood narrative to solicit donations and build obscene personal wealth.
