Zoe Lake is depressed. Well, at least that’s what everyone keeps telling her. As she enters her junior year, she feels more numb than anything else. Between the guilt plaguing her over her former roommate’s death, and the betrayal crushing her heart thanks to her ex-boyfriend Aric, Zoe is struggling to make sense of her world. She makes a pledge to move forward, and she’s even entertaining the idea of letting the friendly neighborhood vampire make a play for her heart. Something just doesn’t feel right, though. Zoe finally agrees to join the Covenant College monster hunters, and enlists in the Academy. The problem is, she doesn’t trust them any more than she trusts the monsters they purport to hunt. Her roommates, Paris and Kelsey, are worried. They want to help, but they’re not sure they’re capable of fixing what’s broken. Only one person can do that, and Zoe no longer trusts Aric to fix anything. Between Aric’s new girlfriend, Rafael’s peculiar brand of courting, and the growing sense of dread spreading across the campus, Zoe has her hands full. When things start to come into focus, Zoe has a decision to make: Either she’s going to commit to being a full-fledged member of the Academy, or she’s finally going to accept that she’s actually one of the monsters they’re hunting. In the end, Zoe will have no choice but to follow her heart – wherever it may lead.
When I was a kid, I was torn between whether or not I was going to grow up and be the Incredible Hulk or Wonder Woman. I flirted with being a Jedi Knight for awhile, but I wasn't up for the intense travel associated with the gig. In my teens, I settled on being a writer -- although I had no idea the effort that would entail. Not only am I a writer now, but I'm a writer in several different mediums. I'm a longtime newspaper reporter, an avid reader and a voracious science fiction fanatic.
This is the perfect series for anyone who liked watching Buffy the vampire slayer and Angel, because the humour and supernatural element is very similar to both, I personally loved it.
Another fun and extremely entertaining instalment. I liked the mystery in this instalment but I especially liked Zoe in this instalment. I liked how she is starting to learn more about what she can do but more I have really grown to love her snark. I also really warmed to Paris and Kelsey in this book and love where their characters have gone. I can't believe how quickly i have breezed through this series. Another entertaining read and I am looking forward to reading the final book of the series next
The more I read about Zoe Lake, the more I actually start to be interested in her. In the first two books of this series I found her to be obnoxious. Now she’s starting to develop into less of a brat and more of a person. Her nasty personality and tendency to lash out at both friends and enemies has mellowed into a sarcasm that can be funny at times: “Shiny objects could distract Tally. Kristy needed me to explain how the shiny objects worked before she could be distracted.”
After a disastrous encounter with a sorority of witches wanting her dead, Zoe discovered that her heartthrob, the werewolf Aric, had kept vital information from her. No longer able to trust him, she broke up with him. Although there are plenty of other guys who would be thrilled to date her, including the handsome and moody vampire, Rafael, Zoe isn’t ready to dive into another relationship.
She’s also busy trying to figure out what Professor Blake and his Academy of zealots are up to. They’re planning some major offensive against the supernaturals on campus, and both the werewolves and vampires are stirred up. There’s going to be a blowup and Zoe will be at ground zero.
The tension builds as the book reaches its finale, and I wasn’t disappointed. Just one more book in this series and I’m already reading it.
I have loved this series, as well as your other books! To be honest, it's the "Snark and the Sarcasm " that keeps me coming back! Some of it has made me laugh out loud and some I have filed away to use myself! I hope I will be reading your books for a long time ~Blessings MsytycWytch
the story is amazing the character though are beyond immature.... even the adults.... But the writer uses comedic Value in it.... I dont think even when i was a Tween did i meet anyone like this... Let alone in college..... Britney disappeared this book I loved her and Zoe's Verbal battles
This is book #4 in this particular series. Although I liked the first 3 books, I’ve enjoyed this one the best. I’ve deliberately taken these books one at a time with other books in between. That being said, once I finish a library book I’ve had on hold for a long time, I look forward to reading book #5, Graduating.
Zoe is depressed, and heartbroken. She no longer trusts Aric, and they have been a part for a while now. But when she gets back to school, she realizes that she must figure things out on her own and move on, especially when it looks like Aric is moving on.
So, Zoe decides to join the monster hunters, and figure out what the plan really is with them. However, she never expected the things she does find out, and when she keeps running into Aric and things aren't making sense, she will do whatever she can to figure it out before it is too late.
This one was okay. I liked how Zoe handled things in this one, and I really felt all of the emotion that she was going through as well. The only thing that really bothered me were the choices Aric made. I didn't understand his secrecy about certain things again, or the reason he did it. It just didn't make sense to me. I was so very annoyed with that, but I was happy with what happened in the end. I'm excited for the next book now.
The Covenant College series by Amanda M Lee passed me by when originally going through her catalog, but the appearance of the main characters in another series–the Mystic Caravan series–exposed me to them and made me pause long enough to go "sure, why not?" One of the big draws? These characters are not rinse and repeat clones of Bay and Landon, Aisling and Griffin, or even Poet and Kade. In fact, the stamp clone nature of characters is largely what drove me away from Lee's series, with exception of Mystic Caravan, so finding a new set of characters that don't just follow the same script? By an author with serious creativity and writing chops? Absolutely delightful, and the series–as well as two follow-up series–were eagerly devoured.
As indicated by the whole #4 thing, this is the final book in the Covenant College series, where Zoe Lake, Aric Winters, and a handful of mystical friends finally confront their Big Bad while also making their way–at least for Zoe and her housemates–through the final year of college. There is less angst between Zoe and Aric, which is nice, and still a good amount of hijinks with roommates. Lee captures–again–that college feeling; everything from how it feels to start a new semester to being seniors on campus marveling at how young freshmen are. And for anyone who shared living in college–well, also very familiar.
The Big Bad continues to build on the previous books, and culminates in a Scooby Doo style reveal that makes sense. (Something of a pattern for the series involving Zoe and Aric.) This isn't meant to be a negative; it's mostly the style of the reveal that might make you wonder if Aric eats Scooby snacks.
My one criticism would be that Lee still hasn't managed transitions between scenes. She clearly envisions the beats of a story and the high points that drive the plot together, but the chapters themselves are not smoothly linked; there are no smooth transitions. You often get [action], the chapter ends, and the next chapter picks up a period of time or location later, with little reference to the previous action. It's a herkyjerky way of writing, and the sort of thing a good editor–or writing program–can help smooth out, and I can only imagine books would be better for it.
If vignette-style chapters that create an overall plot don't bother you, and you're a fan of the Buffyverse, give the Covenant College and subsequent series a read–I don't think you'll find it's time wasted.
Spoiler alert. Pass my yammering if you don’t want spoilers. I like this book best, so far. I love some romance and it was so sad that Zoe and Aric were apart so long. And that Caitlyn - GAG. What a bish! I wish Zoe had tortured her just a bit more, even if just verbally. In fact, had Zoe verbally burned Caitlyn rather than literally done so, that would have been cool; however, I like how Amanda Lee did things her own way. This is the second series of books I’ve read by Amanda M. Lee and I very much like the magical aspect of them (with a side of romance). I also enjoy the snark that comes out of people in every book. In the beginning of this series, Zoe was so sarcastic that she was borderline too bitchy and it was turning me off on wanting to read further, but then I got over it and chose to not be so bothered because the suspense of what is going to happen next had me reading until early hours in the morning. It has been so difficult to even set the books down so that I can finally go to sleep!
There is one more book in this Covenant College series and I’m both sad and happy…bittersweet…to get to it so I can see how it all wraps up. Plus, when I’m done with book 5 “Graduating”, I get to find another book by Amanda. Sounds great to me!

As the feelings of total betrayal overwhelm Zoe and she unable to look at Aric things kick off for a new year at Covenant College.
Rafael is there for her but while Zoe really likes him it's just not enough to take the next step into a relationship.
Now she's on her own her only way to find out what is going on is join the Academy, on her terms, and try to infiltrate from within but Sam Blake keeps her on a short leash. Never being allowed to do more than the fitness training and the occasional spying job especially ones that involve the Alpha Chi fraternity and Aric himself.. there's a strange woman hanging around him, claiming to be his girlfriend, which send Zoe's hackles into overdrive.
With Prof Blake focusing on the vampire population, and some strange behaviour from Will, can the solution be found in a hidden necklace and was Zoe right to hide it from the Academy drone sent to find it?
Zoe is frustrated and yet when it comes to the crunch she still manages to keep one step ahead.
I honestly don't know how many words can express my feelings about these books and this author. I downloaded all these 5 books on audiobook and when I saw it was 36 hours I was dubious about it. I started on 26 March 2021 and I can quite happily say that every night and every opportunity I have had, I have listened and got completely hooked on the books, the plots and the characters!!! As soon as I started to get engrossed in this, I started researching and found out there was another trilogy (25 hours) which continues when they leave college. That was downloaded as well. All in all there is over 61 hours of fantastic writing from an extremely talented author. I LOVED EVERY SINGLE PART OF IT. There were not any moments of the plot dragging, I didn't get bored once and that is astonishing when you think of 61 hours!!! Do not hesitate for one second to read/listen to these books. They deliver on every single level.
This book moves a little faster than the first 3 and we're finally getting somewhere with Zoe's mysterious power. By the end we are seeing the beginning of what she can do, which makes me wonder what will happen in the next (and final?) book.
I like that Zoe, Paris & Kelsey have formed a tight little trio and definitely have each others backs in this one, but the two roommates are just as bad as Brittany (from her freshman year) and Laura & Matilda (from her sophomore year) and really just didn't need the be there except for the comic relief.
While she annoyed me a little in the previous books, I still love how much a smart ass Zoe is and the fact that despite knowing it's going to get her into trouble, she still runs her mouth! To quote Raphael, she's infuriating but we're still strangely drawn to her.
Zoe is depressed her junior year dealing with the fallout from last year and thinking Aric is dating
What I enjoyed: * I've always thought Zoe's snark was way over the top, but this went too far the other way * I enjoyed Kesley and Paris * Barely any Brittany!
What could have been better: * Zoe knew Aric wasn't "really" dating Caitlyn based on how he treated her, but somehow doesn't manage to shake everything off and be herself until she knows the reason *
It's Zoe Lake's junior year. The summer was spent back home working as a bartender for the resort: Raphael around all the time. Aric unforgiven. Zoe unable to move on. Life on campus is rather predictable. So, Zoe turns to the one person she feels will make life a bit more interesting: Professor Blake and his monster academy. The story does take a few interesting turns. The punishment that Zoe metes out seems rather harsh. The ending, afterwards, is almost inappropriate. Nonetheless, it is a good story overall.
Is life in the shallows the same as being shallow?
Every time we think Zoe and Aric have it worked out, they hit another obstacle. Since this obstacle is about trust, they will have to whittle it down. And, it’s not looking good for our boy.
Every year, some co-ed tries to annex him, and scare Zoe off. Even when she’s angry at him, that doesn’t work. At least this time, he’s more verbal in his denial. Who says you can’t teach an old dog new tricks?
Almost felt a little like Twilight with the vampire/werewolf/human(mage in this series) triangle, but this one actually had a plot. Glad it worked out how it did, but parts of it in the middle were just odd. I like this series, even though I can tell that the author doesn't really seem to have her heart in it. Some parts need a bit more explanation. They just don't seem to fit.
Zoe is now a junior and had been tight with werewolf Eric but now there are problems he can't discuss. She infiltrates the secret academy dedicated to fighting the supernatural monster presence on campus, but feeling she is part monster herself can she subscribe to their non-inclusive ideology? And what is up with her vampire Romeo and the woman from his past?
The more the story progresses the more supernatural elements mix with the college experience. I’m finding it hilarious and so entertaining. This was a book where the romance took a halt so Zoe could evaluate the relationship, and it felt quite real. Supernatural apart 😅 I’m curious to see how it will play out in the end. Great audible, I recommend it!
Zoe bad ass ups the ante in her junior at C.C. this book had a better buildup and climax than the previous books in the series. We get to see more of Rafael and watch Zoe bond more with him. I'm really glad this did not turn into a twilight-esque love triangle. Looking for to reading more.
Book 4 is fast paced, full of danger and mystery. Our heroine is snarky and is finally coming into her powers, but her personal life is on the rocks. One of our heroes has an agenda that is unknown and the other one is trying to watch over our heroine. There are tons of paranormals and tons of radical evil doers. Highly entertaining.
So much growth happening with Zoe, I truly enjoy watching them in their early years. Can't wait to see the final chapter in young Zoe and Aric, even though I know who and what they became, another excellent book, thank you Amanda for your exceptional story telling, and I have to say the graphics on the covers are truly fantastic.
A fun series! So much going on in each book. I love the character development; good and evil! Each story full of surprises, fun, girl fighting hair pulling, teenagers drama and so much more. Can't wait to continue. Personally, I love everything I've read by this author.
This is not my favorite series of her books so far. It's not particularly funny other than the typical stereotype thinking of a teenage girl and their obsession with parties and boys. At least the male main characters don't follow their stereotype of being obsessed with sports, cars and getting drunk. I hope the series improves.
This was another great book in the Covenant college series! This series has been addicting and I can't seem to put it down! I can't wait to start the next book in the series!
I’m being very bad, and not getting enough sleep since I started reading this series. I had a little trouble getting started with it, but it is fan freaking tastic! Now I’m starting the next book. Yeah I’m hooked!
Zoe is a whiny college junior in this book. She and Erick are broken up. She is also trying to find out what is going on at the college. This series is not up to the caliber of the spin-offs but I want to know the whole back story to the other series.
Great lead-in to a horrific showdown, and Zoe finally starts using her magic. Still snarky and sarcastic, Zoe learns more than she wanted about some of the Academy. Can't wait for the. Next one!
Another great story in this series. Great characters and story filled with humor, magic and mystery. Zoe and friends so funny at times. Definitely should this series. No cliffhanger and a happy for now.
