Thanks U.S. for making 'Novak' and 'Black Rose' # 1 in the organized crime genre.
We are born Bratva--We die Bratva!
You've met my cousin Glazov, now please allow me to introduce myself
My birth name was, "Mathias Novak" I had changed it when I
left New York at a young age and relocated to California.
You see, "Carl Sims" sounded much more Americanized and it
would keep me from being viewed as a mobster, or a thug.
I like to think of myself as a business man with an edge and
the words mobster and thug carry a stigma with them that I do not want to be
associated with.
Being of European descent I am very particular.
I am a polished man, a very precise man and perfected at
anything that I do.
Not just any woman has the capability to snag my attention,
it takes a certain something if you will and women like Katrina are few and far between.
I have no intention of letting Katrina get away from me.
Then there is also the issue of the diary, I will be keeping
Katrina on a short leash...
To say that I am a dangerous man would be an understatement; let's just say that Katrina crossed the wrong man when she stole that diary and if forced marriage is the only way to keep her from testifying against me; well then, So. Be.It.
I was doing great. Riding high on the success of my bestseller. Until the Mobster I stole from to write the book; demanded his diary back.
Giving that diary back would be admitting I had
stolen it and used it to write my story.
It meant admitting my novel which had now become a worldwide, phenomenal best seller; was nothing more than a hoax.
This created a grave problem, it meant losing a lot of
money and worse than that, it meant my reputation as a writer would be ruined.
I had no choice, I would have to try and charm this
snake, somehow, some way; into not ruining all that I had worked for.
But forced marriage?!? He couldn't be serious, or could he?
To keep up with all things Suzanne Steele you can find her on Facebook and her wordpress blog. Everything there is up to date. She loves her beautiful readers. Suzanne Steele is an Amazon Bestselling Author and television host for a TV program in the Charlotte NC area. She focuses on volunteer work and is very heavily involved in giving back to her local community. The month of October will be spent focusing on breast cancer awareness. Suzanne has a penchant for writing about dark characters with twisted behavioral patterns. If you're looking for the typical romance, this is probably not the author for you. Her characters are very alpha in nature and many times they operate under obsession for the object of their affection; rather than love. Though she does believe in happily ever afters, her characters many times have a bumpy ride getting there. She also writes under the pseudonym Stormy Dawn Weathers for her writings that aren't so darkly laced with a true realism of shock and awe. Suzanne Steele does not believe in holding back when it comes to writing about how dark and depraved her characters are in the core of their primal natures.
What the hell did I just read? The story starts off with Katrina our heroine getting manhandled at a park by some dangerous guy. The dangerous guy is Novak aka Carl Sims, he has come to collect. Katrina stole his diary that included all his sadistic sex history as well as his connection to the Russian mob, and Katrina wrote a book using his Diary. She made a shit ton of money and the best sellers list.
My first question was, what effing mob do you know that will request the diary? The russians don't mess around she would have been killed already!
So, that was a sad attempt on Russians with this story.
So, this is how the story goes:
Novak: Give me my diary you lying, thieving bitch! Katrina: I don't have it. Novak: I will make you my sex slave. Katrina: no you won't. Novak: Call me sir Katrina: Sir Novak: I am never letting Katrina go Katrina: Novak is in my heart, an my body..
Then she goes into hiding.. guess where she hid? In her apartment! LMAO! Seriously? Un-fucking-believable!!!!!!
Novak: We're getting married. Katrina: No Novak: yes, that way you can't testify! Katrina: Fine but I won't move in!
Then Novak mentions something about they got tested, however he didn't use a rubber since day one. And this whole story happened in like 3 days so when did you get tested?
Going by the cover alone I would never normally have read this book but after being introduced to Novak in 'Grazov's legacy' I just couldn't stay away. I have to be totally honest and say I didn't enjoy this book as much as I'd expected, I think I made a mistake in reading 'Glazov' 'Glazov's Legacy' and ''Novak' in just two days because 'Novak' is so similar to 'Glazov' it's more or less the same book just with different characters. Also I said in my review of 'Glazov' that I didn't really buy the way him and Kathleen met but it was a means to an end and the story was about them, I'm struggling to apply that to this situation because I just can't wrap my head around the fact that a high ranking member of the Bratva would firstly keep a diary and secondly would just leave it and then be without it for six months, this is not your 'I got up and had toast for breakfast' kind of diary it has descriptions of his ties to the criminal underworld. While I know this is fiction and their relationship is the backbone of the book it still has to be at least partly believable and this wasn't for me. As with the previous two books the editing was really good, this is something which gets overlooked unless it's bad and then I complain but after reading my third perfectly edited book I thought it was only fair to give it a mention.
No, just NO..this dude is worse then Glazov. I love a good over the top alpha, but this was a crazy abusive asshole alpha. I didn't feel an ounce of love between these two...le sigh.
Also, this book made NO SENSE! First of all the heroine was WAY to stupid to live. She hides out from Novak...wait for it...in her apartment!! Ya, no way that crazy ass Russian mob guy is gonna find you there!!
Second of all, what the hell is with the diary?! First rule of criminal school is DON'T leave a written record of said criminal activity!! Second, if for some asinine reason you decide to break rule number one, take better care not to leave said record behind somewhere!
Then he threatens to ruin her career because she stole his diary and wrote a FICTIONAL book based on it! She wasn't trying to pass it off a real, so how exactly was he going to ruin her career? Let us not forget he is a RUSSIAN MOBSTER, I am pretty sure he isn't going to call the cops about a stolen diary...save me from books that make no sense!!
4 " I am her first, I am her last, I am her everything" Stars
Wow.....Novak....what to say about Mr Mathias Novak.....he has me at an emotional crossroads of whether I like or hate him. Not even sure I know at this moment. He is far beyond the dominating Alpha I have ever read about. I think there is a "softer" side to him and maybe I was hoping for a just a tiny bit of cuddle to come out for Katrina.
Katrina....the girl never stood a chance in the ring with Novak. She is a strong, independent, beautiful woman but the Novak grip is unbreakable no matter what emotional barrier she tries to build. Novak stirs a dark side of Katrina she never knew existed.
"I am now a lustful creature who craves being brutalized and used."
Together, their emotional dysfunction works.....in a very....VERY bad way. I wanted to cringe so many times when they were together but I couldn't help but want MORE!!!
"We are poison to one another, a dangerous brew of lust that threatens to combust, obliterating us and anybody that lies in our paths."
Novak, you were good. Maybe great but Glazov oh my Glazov. You were no Glazov. I should've read you first. Once you go Glazov you don't do their cousins. I loved the way you could turn Katrina's panties and wring them out but I wanted you to admit at least a little sumthin of ur feelings. I don't know if why we didn't bond my love. You were quick and a great quicky you were but you were a one and done and No you cannot have seconds and def not make all time faves list. Now girls please don't get me wrong Ms. Steele is still the bomb and I will read ANY book from her. If I read this review I would still read the book. Just remember Glazov... and then you'll know why we do do cousins (cause I'm a dirty little bird)
Suzanne Steele is such an amazingly talented author, her stories are always original, creative and so very entertaining. Mathias Novak is Alexander Glazov's cousin and this book is before he moved to Kentucky. Novak is living in Los Angeles and has changed his name to Carl Sims to sound more American but he's just as dangerous as he was in Russia. Katrina is a local reporter who found Novak's personal diary and turned it into a bestselling novel, not realizing who he was. He found out and now he's pissed off and if she were a man she'd already be dead. But he's extremely attracted to her so he blackmails her into becoming his own personal f**k toy.
“Whether you like it or not, Katrina, you’re mine. You don’t have a fucking choice. Of course, there is always jail time or a body bag. I can always sue you and ruin your reputation as an author and a reporter. Your good reputation is nothing but a false façade of innocence”
Never steal secrets and profit from them. She never expected him to find her and demand his diary back. Story catchy you from beginning to end. Loved it!!'
Another great read. Enjoying the series greatly Character building is great enjoing the strong female leads and the way they make their strong men bend
Novak is the second in the excellent Bratva Born series. Katrina is a journalist who just published a best-selling novel about the life of a very kinky Russian mobster… the only small problem is the story is true and mobster is real. Katrina found Novak’s diary and used it to write her novel. Now Novak not only wants his diary back, he wants Katrina as payment for her misdeeds. “You will eat, drink, sleep, live, and breathe me, and no others, I don’t fucking share, and I damn sure don’t take no for an answer. You’re property now – my property.”
Novak puts the “anti” in anti-hero”. He is a bad boy without the requisite heart of gold, and Katrina remains afraid of him throughout the book, and not in the sexy way. Amanda muses that despite her fear that the continuous sparring with Novak and the relentless brutal sex makes her feel more “alive” than she’s ever felt in her life – I’m guessing it’s the continual stream of adrenaline and dopamine in her bloodstream. A girl could get addicted to on-tap hot and ready dopamine heavy orgasms laced so liberally with adrenaline from fear and pain. I gave this book 4 stars on the strength of the sex scenes alone.
However, Ms. Steele could not leave well enough alone and let Novak be bad and Katrina be afraid and the sex be good. She had to bring Katrina around at some point, right? I was sorry to see it
Now the plot of this story is that a flash drive which happens to contain some writings of Novak's where he details some of the stuff that happens in his bedroom goes missing and an aspiring author finds it and uses it to supplement her novel and then Novak happens upon this book that became a best-seller and recognizes his writings and tracks her down so she can pay for what she's done.
It turns out people enjoy reading about sexually deviant mobsters. Who knew?
I really enjoyed watching how everything played out. Now I wasn't all that sympathetic to the situation she found herself in where Novak where's concerned I mean Katrina did plagiarize parts of her book with his writings without his permission, Although it probably doesn't excuse everything he did after he found her.
I mean, I didn't really steal it. Not really. I just found it. No, I didn't turn it into Lost and Found or whatever, but I didn't exactly go seeking it out. It practically found me.
We basically just follow their cat and mouse game after that. Just like in the first book this isn't all lovey Dovey it's an obsessive not entirely healthy love story. We are poison to one another, a dangerous brew of lust and lies that threatens to obliterate us and anyone in our path.
Mathias Novak aka Carl Sims aka MPP (Mr. Pierced Penis) has been slighted. Who in the heck is BOLD enough to cross the Bratva? Katherine, the alpha female in the world of media, is more than bold enough. Or is she?
While visiting Katherine's boss, Novak inadvertently leaves his diary (hmmmmm sounds like a setup) behind in the conference room. Katherine being the inquisitive wanna be author, she swipes Novak's diary, pens a best selling novel based on the diary, makes a boatload of money, and dagnabbit if her success doesn't cost her a heck of a lot more than she she could ever dream!
Novak comes for Katrina like a wrecking ball! Poor woman didn't know what hit her. Before she could could grasp the severity of her screw up, Novak had her on her back introducing her to MPP! After that first night she's as whipped as whip cream on hot chocolate! She fought the inevitable longer than Novak thought she would but in the end she was no match for the Russian PP! Katrina was bedded and wedded before she knew what was happening.
So yeah this book is gritty, fast paced, and 80% of the focal point is dirty and more dirty sex. The usual emotions linked to sex are nonexistent so if the lack of emotions surrounding sex is a deal breaker for you, then skip this book. Novak is a FREAK in the bedroom and his type of love play may not appeal to you. However, if you're looking for a really quick, gritty, take charge of my woman, "I'm Tarzan you're Jane so bend over" type of read, then this book will certainly entertain you!
I'm extremely surprised at all the good reviews this book got. I had a hard time getting into the book at first, even though this book was a stand alone. This storyline tells about Novak taking per say ownership of Katrina who is career starved for improving her life. The hero is one dimensional and uninteresting. It is truly unrealistic that a boss of the Bratva would carry a diary around and It goes unnoticed for six months with all information of his criminal underground dealings and connections. REALLY?? I have read many mafia novel and this one did not fit the description. This is definitely a downer for me because the storyline is truly unrealistic and disappointing on so many levels.
I was given this book by the author in exchange for a honest review and I must say, it is one of a kind in this genre. Though this is the first book I've read from this genre, I was impressed by the author's articulation and narrative aspect of some thing annoying and unforgivable incident that shook many. From the start, The characters portrayed and defined so strong in nature, it was pretty intense stuff to read and kept me engaged and going. Thoroughly a recommended read if you're looking for a book with lot of erotica stuff and romance in their own way.
This is the first book I have read by Suzanne and it won't be the last, I brought this book for the cover because it screams badboy :) Everyone loves a badboy right???? This is a short story, to short if you ask me I was left wanting more, I can't really put a lot in this review without spoilers and I don't do that,. This is a well written book I fell in love with both characters and the story flowed beautifully,
I have read Glazovs Legacy so I had heard of Novak before. But I didn't know his and Katrina's story. I loved that Novak was so pushy and that Katrina tried to push back :) Whilst this type of story isn't for everyone, I have to say I love Suzanne Steele's books and her male characters in particular. It was a great little read, if anything I wish it was longer.
Another great Bratva book. I really really enjoy Miss. Steele's Bratva books. The stories are fast paced and I love the dual POV's. Much like her Glazov book, Novak is dark and gritty. No hearts and Flowers here. But I prefer that to that surgery sweet romances....
Wow! What a roller coaster of emotions evoked from this book. I absolutely loved the rawness and carnality of Novak...when he said that he was going to brand her on the base of her neck with a property of Mathis Novak...clench!!! Eager to read the cousins story!!!
I read Glasov and Glasov Legacy so I decided to read Novak to get his details. This book is just about him taking ownership (as he calls it) of Katrina. There is only one brief mafia dealing.
Novak and Katrina are sooo hot together!! I love that she never backs down even when she's scared to death and that she is strong enough to handle a man like Novak
