I have found a new love recently in the world of books--Amish Fiction. I discovered Cindy Woodsmall's books at my local library and decided to pick one up for a taste of something different. I'm so glad I tried something new! I absolutely love Cindy's writing style. She has created authentic Amish Characters with stories filled with heart, tragedy, triumph, spiritual strength, and romance.

I love a good clean read that isn't sickly sweet. Cindy has written stories that are true to life and given an intimate look into the lifestyle of living the Plain Amish way that so many people live in communities across Pennsylvania and Ohio.

Hope Crossing is definitely a treat because it is three books in one! I read these books quickly, one right after the other because I was eager to find out how everything turned out in the continuing stories and old and new characters.

In The Hope of Refuge: Cara's story is fascinating because it pulls a woman living in the modern world into the culture of the Amish. To Cara it is akin to an alien world and she struggles to find her place. I love her realistic struggle to find faith all while a romance is blossoming.

My thoughts on The Bridge of Peace: This is my favorite novel in the trilogy because I love Lena's story. She has such a strong character. At the same time, Grey is intriguing with his gentle ways and unselfish character. The threatening backdrop of this story was intense and the romance was unforgettable!
My thoughts on The Harvest of Grace: This novel wraps up all of the character stories and introduces a new character in Sylvia Fisher. This novel was a little slow-moving for me and even though I didn't enjoy it as much as the other two, I did enjoy seeing everything come full circle. Cara is a resilient character and it was neat to watch her struggle to forgive and fully accept the Amish ways. The romance between different characters in this novel was sweet and satisfying.

The Hope of Refuge
Cara is running from a stalker. So she turns to her diary, filled with notes from her late mother. Something tickles her memory and she finds herself in Amish country with her daughter. But since her mother left in disgrace, Cara will have to fight an uphill battle if she wants to be accepted.

The Bridge of Peace
Lena has loved her job as a teacher from the very beginning. But difficult students, hateful parents, and bizarre occurrences have her job in jeopardy with the board. It certainly doesn't help that she has a problem submitting to authority. When she falls in love with a man that is not considered courting material she must mature and learn to listen to those around her.

The Harvest of Grace
Sylvia has been betrayed by her sister at home. She flees to the Blank farm to help on their farm since their son, Aaron is in rehab. Aaron returns with the intent to sell the farm that Sylvia has fallen in love with. The two must work together for months. But one is working to get the farm ready for market, while the other is fighting to save the farm from the bank.

Each novel is full length. That made the book very heavy and the print rather small. Those small complaints aside, I enjoyed these three books. The author doesn't write the typical bonnet fiction. The characters are flawed, but likable. The situations are often fraught with drama and tension. But the author is able to bring out Christian elements as the characters deal with the things that come at them. Even if you don't enjoy bonnet fiction, you should give this author a try. You won't be disappointed.

I received this book free of charge from Blogging for Books in exchange for my honest review.

One of the biggest treats for a book lover is a big fat tome from an author you adore. I found that in Hope Crossing. It is the omnibus of the Ada's House Trilogy and it is fabulous! If you were able to resist the urge to read the trilogy as it came out you are in for a real delight. Now you can snuggle up with the whole thing without waiting for months on end to read the next installment.

Each story centers around the Old Order Amish community of Hope Crossing. The center of this community is Ada's House and it plays a pivotal point in each of the stories. While each story stands alone there is a thread of continuity that weaves the three novels together. Each book has different main characters but in the subsequent stories the main characters become background figures so you get a glimpse at what has been going on with them since you left them.

I absolutely adore Cindy Woodsmall's writing. She has a wonderful way of presenting unusual circumstances in the context of the Old Order Amish community. I'm always wondering just how she is going to bring about a resolution to such a sticky situation. After all of her novels so far I'm happy to say she's yet to disappoint.

If you or someone you love enjoys Amish fiction this would be the perfect addition to your/their library. The book is hefty, but it is a great bargain to get all three books in one!

I received a copy of this book to facilitate my review.

This was a heartfelt and well told story. Definitely a must read, and a top favorite series for me. The characters came alive and the story very was good. This was my first Amish novel series read and it tuned me on to others. It was like waling walking into a whole new way of life. It was a great inspiration and a reminder that Life is hard but there is still joy to be fond. It opened my eyes and encouraged me to do more research.

This is the trilogy, Ada's House , that includes three full-length novels: The Hope of Refuge, The Bridge of Peace, and The Harvest of Grace. I have already written reviews of each book separately, so this book review is only about a few things about the bound trilogy.

When it comes to binding three full length books into one volume, I feel a little ambivilant. On one hand, it's convenient to have all three books in one volume. No searching, no hunting for a missing book. I like the convenience. On the other hand, it makes for a large, heavy book to hold up to read. Since I have carpel tunnel in one hand, it was uncomfortable if sitting up in a comfortable chair. It was not a problem sitting at a table. What I was given was a soft bound book, but it was still heavy. However, eventually, the spine broke and the book split in half. My given preference would be to have three separate volumes.

For an overview: The story begins with someone living outside the Amish communities that eventually come into focus for these books. We follow Cara's story all throughout the three books. In a great twist of events, she discovers she was supposed to grow up in the Amish community of Dry Lake with her relatives. But instead, she ended up in foster care. She falls in love with Ephraim, makes friends in the community, and over the course of the three books struggles with personal issues to join the Old Order Amish community whole-heartedly to marry him.

All the books are beautifully written, filled with people I came to care for, and full of great dynamic characterization. I cared for the people in these stories. I disliked the villains, felt fear with the ones in pain, triumphant with overcomers, and rejoiced with the marriages of friends. It was nearly like taking a journey with close companions. I would heartily recommend this trilogy. Just choose buying the three books separately and forgo the huge book of all three bound together.

Disclosure of Material Connection: I received a complimentary review copy of this book from Bethany House (a division of Baker Publishing). I was not required to write a review, positive or otherwise. The opinions I have expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part255: "Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising.

The Ada's House series had been on my list to listen to for quite a while. One of my favorite audio performers, Cassandra Campbell, narrates it. I needed a break from my normal mystery/thriller/law enforcement reading. Right before I started listening to the first book, I acquired a hard copy of "Hope Crossing," a compilation of all three books in one. I used it as a companion.

I was quickly drawn into the story and developed attachments to the characters. I enjoyed how they related to one another and how they navigated through living a plain life. I relished their trusting relationships with one another and I learned a lot about Amish culture.

There is a lot of drama in the series, in particular the second book of the series. It held my attention and kept me guessing what was going to happen next. There was more romance than I expected and definitely more than I care for. By the time I realized that the series could be tagged a romance, I was too involved with the story!

This is a refreshing series, with no vulgarity of any sort. That is to be expected of Amish fiction and is one of the reasons I read/listened to this series. I needed a break from my normal mystery/thriller/law enforcement reading.

So many stories; so many pages. After finishing, I'm afraid I can't really say I remember much about the characters or stories.

Also, it felt a bit dated to me, and I can usually push past that sort of thing to enjoy the stories anyway. I used to read a lot of books of similar style. I used to really enjoy the stories of Amish background with a modern twist - but it didn't really seem to suit me this time around.

I did like the idea that all the stories are centered around a central location and idea (motherhood).

And the setting? Fabulous! I definitely miss the farms of home!

"Green fields went clear to the horizon. The air smelled delicious, like dirt, but not city dirt. Like growing-food dirt. The cornstalks reached for the sky, and her chest felt like little shoes were tap-dancing inside it." (14)

This trilogy is filled with complicated characters who found hope, peace and grace at Ada’s House. I admired the way the author created each character’s traits with difficult situations to overcome. The themes of forgiveness, letting go, healing, finding oneself through God’s peace, grace and hope made this a delight to read.

The Hope of Refuge was excellent! I thoroughly enjoyed it! Four stars!!
The Bridge of Peace had a sinister turn to it that I personally did not enjoy because I read right before bed and it made for some unsettled moments. But, it was extremely well written, exciting and not anything like some of the Amish fluff out there. I would still rate it four stars though!!
The Harvest of Grace was great as well. Four stars! I was disappointed for this series to end!

Originally posted on Creative Madness Mama.I’m reading Hope Crossing, which is a 3-in-1 novel omnibus that includes the entire Ada’s House trilogy. I love omnibus trilogies. This is not my first, as I also own Cindy’s Sisters of the Quilt Trilogy as one as well. The Christmas in Apple Ridge collection of Christmas set stories is also one as well.

Hope Crossing Review

Cindy Woodsmall is my go-to Amish Fiction for contemporary stories author. I love her writing. She is so good at grabbing my interest and holding me there. Her stories linger with you and give you a hunger and thirst for reading more. While I didn’t love The Hope of Refuge, I find that to be more due to the circumstances surrounding the lives of the characters and the down right aggravating features of certain antagonists that are very antagonistic! Yet don’t let me make you think this is a poor book because it’s not.

The main character in The Hope of Refuge is Cara and she faces so much hardship and ruin due to idiotic mistakes from people that make me so angry and really reluctant to forgive. Yet isn’t that the beauty in such a story? Perhaps as a reader I need to learn a bit just as the surrounding characters do as well. As always, it’s not an easy read, but it’s a good one and worthwhile on my bookshelf.

The Bridge of Peace is a touching novel that continues the story of characters we've gotten to know and appreciate in The Hope of Refuge. It is a captivating yet difficult read. The Harvest of Grace brings everything back full circle with an additional couple's story.

I've probably read Cynthia Woodsmall's stories at one time or another although I don't remnember doing so. From the time I opened the first book in this trilogy of three books in ome, I couldn't seem to put the book down. I love to read about the Amish I find their way of life fascinating. There are many Amish who live in the same town as my Grandmother and when there I see them with their horse and buggies coming and going quite often.

Cynthia Woodsmalls' books gave me another glimpse into their lives. The book wasn't something I could put down easily. I found myself picking it up for a few pages to read before bedtime and then putting off going to bed or doing whatever else I should have been doing and instead reading. She takes you into her books and involves you right into the stories. You feel as if you know the characters, or at least want to know as much as you can about them, their lives and you want to keep reading to find out how she is going to end each story, and in this case, you don't have to end it, as their are three books and you can get started right where the last one ended. Only from the beginning of each book, other characters in the same towns paths crossing each other so you feel as though you are reading on about old friends as each book unfolds to the next. The books are rich in the characters faiths, as well as their doubts with their faith in some cases and the problems their lives cross over, problems that happen to the non-Amish as well so that makes these characters seem even more believeable. I do wish I had as much faith and could remain as steadfast in my faith of what is to come as they are. I think at times by reading books such as these, their doubts and challenges and the solutions that come their way help me in some small way as I enjoy their stories.

Warning, if you are a person who has problems holding on to books of great weight, this book is pretty heavy. I found that I would be sitting at my table reading their or in bed anywheree that I could prop the book open to keep reading. I should have chosen to read the kindle version as this is pretty hard on the hands and wrists for someone with arthritis problems.

About the Author:

Cindy Woodsmall is a New York Times and CBA best-selling author of fifteen works of fiction and one work of nonfiction. Her connection with the Amish community has been widely featured in national media outlets. Cindy and her husband reside near the foothills of the North Georgia Mountains in their now-empty nest.

My Review:

The Hope of Refuge

So much hope resting on so many changing lives and what will these ladies do about it? Hope and faith in God's grace will be all that can change their lives for the better.

The Bridge of Peace

When Lena is faced with so much opposition from all four corners, how will she respond? Her and Grey's relationship is transformed by all the opposing forces that proves to be difficult for either of them to survive from. But soon they see something in each other that will change everything.

The Harvest of Grace

Taken from my previous review....

This one centers around Sylvia and how she has a keen ship with animals. She takes care of them as if they were her babies. Elam Smoker is a young Amish man interested in Sylvia and when he asked her to marry him she decided she needed time to think about it. And then Elam did something unspeakable among sisters. And Sylvia felt betrayed. Then in walks Aaron Blank and things begin to change for Sylvia. I won't give away the ending but lets just say it gets better and better and by the time you become enthralled in the novel you won't want to put it down.

Cindy Woodsmall has a cozy, down to earth feel that comes through in her writing. she is able to convey God's love and His ultimate grace in ways that many writers can not. I love reading her books, she has a lifelong fan in me!

When it comes to Amish fiction Cindy Woodsmall is one of my favorite authors. Her style of writing is so enjoyable. Her books are what I consider "easy reads". They are the kind that I love to curl up with for an afternoon of reading with a blanket and a cup of hot chocolate.

Hope Crossing is the complete Ada's House Trilogy and includes all three books in the series. The three books included are The Hope of Refuge, The Bridge of Peace and The Harvest of Grace. I cannot pick a favorite book out of the three because they are all so good. All the character's are easy to connect with and if you are anything like me you won't even want to take a break between books, you'll just keep on reading!

The first book, The Hope of Refuge is about Ephraim and Clara. Clara has lived a hard life, after her mother died and her father abandoned her she grew up in Foster homes. Now she has a little girl named Lori and they are running from a stalker who has been tormenting Clara for years. Clara ends up in Amish country after finding a clue from her mother in a diary. Ephraim comes to Clara's aide which gets him shunned in his community. Clara and Ephraim are both surprised when the realize this is not the first time they have met.

The second book, The Bridge of Peace continues on with the same characters but now the main characters are Lena and Grey. Lena is a school teacher and at 27 years old she is sure that she is to live her life alone. With a huge birthmark on her face she knows that her looks turn everyone away. She is happy with her life as a teacher, but now her job is being threatened and Grey is the only person who will stand up for her. Grey is dealing with some personal tragedies of his own and only wants friendship from Lena. Lena on the other hand is quickly developing deeper feelings for Grey.

The third book, The Harvest of Grace concludes the stories that we have been reading in a very satisfying way. It completes the stories of the previous books, but also focus on Sylvia and Aaron who both have different goals in life and their struggle of trying to come together. I read this book several years and it was actually the first book I read by Cindy Woodsmall and I have been reading her books ever since.

If you have not had the pleasure of reading this series yet, Hope Crossing is a good place to start since it has all three books combined in one book for one low price!

Hope Crossing (The Complete Ada’s House Trilogy) by Cindy Woodsmall is a wonderful book. It contains three books in one. The books are The Hope of Refuge, The bridge of Peace, and The Harvest of Grace. It is nice to have all three books in one book and to read them one after the other. Cara is an Englisher (as the Amish call us), single mother, and has a stalker. Cara keeps moving to avoid Mike who has been stalking and threatening her for years. Mike has found Cara again so she decides to leave immediately. One of the few items she has from her childhood is her mother’s journal. Cara discovers the name of a town hidden in the book. It is Dry Lake, Pennsylvania. Cara takes her daughter Lori and the little money they have left and heads to Dry Lake. It is there that they discover a different way of life – The Amish Way. She stumbles upon an Old Order Amish community. Cara also finds an old friend, Ephraim Mast, memories that she forgot, and she finds family that she did not know existed. We also have Deborah, Ephraim’s sister, is engaged to marry Mahlon Stolzfus. Deborah has been in love with him since she was a young girl. In the first book we get to know more about Cara, Ephraim, Mahlon, and Deborah.
The second book, The Bridge of Peace, deals with Lena Kauffman, a local Amish schoolteacher, and Grey Graber, woodworker. It also continues the story of Cara, Ephraim, Deborah, and Mahlon. The Harvest of Grace, the third story, continues the story of all the characters and adds Sylvia and Aaron.
I found Hope Crossing just a lovely book. I am a fan of Cindy Woodsmall’s work and reading this book was just a delight. It is the type of book that when you finish you give a little sigh and have a smile on your face. I hope you will read Hope Crossing and enjoy it as much as I did. Happy Reading!

I think Cindy Woodsmall is easily one of my favorite authors. She creates real life issues that could really be about anyone, it's just that she has those problems happening to Amish characters. Each of her stories always completely pull me in and make me feel like I have actually become a part of the community in which she writes about. I was excited to re read the stories in Hope Crossing, because honestly I read each one as they were released as individual books, but it was great to have the entire series in one cover, making it easy to continue the stories of the characters that appear in each book. The opening story is The Hope of Refuge and really the title is perfect because we have Cara a single mother who entire focus is staying one step ahead of her stalker, she hates that she has to uproot her daughter every few months but it is the only way she can keep her safe, it turns out that Cara remembers only snippets of her life before she was eight years old, but those snippets and the name of a place called Dry Creek has her hoping that she might have found a safe place at last. When she gets there she not only does she start to get her memories back, but she also reconnect with an old friend meets an old friend, Ephraim Mast. The Bridge of Peace continues the saga but two new main characters are thrown into the mix.The third book The Harvest of Grace continues the story with two new characters while also allowing readers to reconnect with previous characters. A great trilogy that allows readers a real look at the Amish way of life while providing exciting life stories that make you feel like you are moving on from old friends when the series finishes!

This book series is absolutely amazing. The characters are likable and tug at your heart. I hold a very special connection with Grey and Lena. There have been many times in my life where I've felt as isolated and lonely as both of those characters. This is my third time reading through this series and it's still just as good as the first time that I read them.

If you haven't previously been able to stock up on these volumes, you cannot beat the price of the three-in-one collection. Just under $16 it's like you're only paying just over $5 per book and that is a steal! If you haven't picked it up yet you can click on the links above to find the best deals!

Cindy Woodsmall has such a way with building her characters and pulling you into their lives. Her words flow easily and I quite enjoy the depth and emotion that she captures. I love that her characters are imperfect and flawed. They think flawed things or they have trouble accepting things at times. It makes her characters real to the reader in a way that emotionally engage you with the dialogue. I actually cared about what happened in the life of these characters, even on a complex level. As in Lena and Grey's story, there were times where I was really wanting certain characters to get together but I also felt sorrow about how the pairing had to come about.

I can't suggest this series enough to fans of Amish fiction!

The Hope of Refuge is about two women with changing lives. Deborah and Cara seem to have a lot to bear. But being at Ada's House may impact their lives in ways they didn't realize. A story of grace and hope.

The Bridge of Peace is about the opposition that Lena faces and how will she and Grey act/react? Lena is blamed for trouble at the local school where her friend, Grey and his family live. Will Grey and Lena's friendship become something more with all the confusion and accidents? A story of forgiveness and love.

The Harvest of Grace is, perhaps, my favorite off all. Sylvia has an unusual way with animals...she loves them and them love and respond to her. She is also determined to save the Blank farm. Elam has proposed marriage to Sylvia but she told him she would need to think about it...thank goodness because he does something unspeakable. Sylvia feels betrayed and then Aaron comes home. He is surprised to find an Sylvia as a farm hand...but not disappointed. Love this sweet story!

A wonderful gut read for Amish fans!

My Thoughts On The Book: Cindy Woodsmall is one of my favorite Amish fiction writers. This book is no exception. I loved it. Hope Crossing is a great trilogy that allows the reader to experience a real look at the Amish way of life. Each story, each character makes the reader feel as if they are part of the story as it begins to unfold before them. This book can have you smiling one minute and have your heart breaking the next. The mark of a good writer is one that can draw you in to their story line with ease and Woodsmall is a master at that technique.

My Review

Hope Crossing is an amazing three in one book from Cindy Woodsmall. This is Books one, two and three in this fabulous series. If you enjoy Amish fiction, Ms. Woodsmall's books are an absolute must! And this series is a great way to start. I appreciate that this author creates real life situations for her characters, leaving out nothing that we face in everyday life. And its all written in this fun, exciting, entertaining three books! There is so much to say about these stories, but I don't know how to start without giving any of them away, so I will just stick with what an

awesome series Ada's House Trilogy is, and really encourage you to pick up this book and read and enjoy.

I loved loved loved this series! Each book brought something special to the series and I fell in love with all these characters. Though, I think out of the wholes series Cara's story was my favorite. But like I said before all of these characters were great. Once again Cindy didn't fail in writing a very compelling Amish series. Each book stood out as an amazing story that is sure to have you glad you picked up this book. And it's so handy having all the books together! If I were you I'd grab this book and get started reading it as soon as possible!

Each book brought a different element to the series. Of them all, I’d have to go with ‘Harvest’ as my first choice. Cindy Woodsmall has a beautiful way of penning these stories. After writing so many of them, one might think she’d run out of creativity. But she continues to impress & keep things fresh.

As a compilation, I give it 5 stars.

I received a copy in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are mine.

I absolutely loved this book, just as the other one that I just read by Woodsmall! She does such a great job of incorporating other aspects of the Amish life into these family stories. It's refreshing for the chapters to not be totally encompassed with romantic notions and silly coincidences that always happen in romance novels. This one is definitely a good peek into the true Amish life!

A complete Trilogy that follows the lives of several women and men as they learn to live and follow the Amish way of life. A great read with tips which could help any of us no matter what our faith.
