In Compton, where loyalty runs thin and hood love is a dangerous gamble, every day feels like a struggle just to breathe. Yadira Birdsong and Vaughn Richie Jr. found something real in each other, believing their love could help them rise above the chaos and poverty of the projects. But in the streets, letting go is never easy, and happiness often feels like tempting fate.
Yadira knows better than anyone that trust isn't something she can hand out freely—not when even those closest to her have left lasting scars. With every new disappointment, she's pulled closer to the darkness she's desperately trying to escape. But Vaughn sees beyond her pain. He’s the only one who holds her tight enough to keep the hurt away, reminding her that she's worth more than her surroundings.
Vaughn dreams of building something solid with Yadira, but every step forward is weighed down by sacrifices he never wanted to make. Each decision pushes him closer to the edge, forcing him to choose between survival and keeping his soul intact. One misstep and everything they've built together could crumble.
Caught between hope and heartbreak, Yadira and Vaughn must decide if their African American romance is worth fighting for. In a world where the odds always seem stacked against them, can they hold onto each other long enough to break free from the cycle that threatens their future?
Because sometimes, the hardest thing you’ll ever do is trust that you deserve better—even when everything around you tries to convince you otherwise.
This was a fabulous story! The realness of living in the projects, the gangs, the dope, the unhealthy Mother's who didn't know any better and the ones that did but chose not to do better. The agape love of a big sister- unequivocally the best kind of love to give that extra push to keep on fighting! I love how Leesa and her sister welcomed YaYa and gave her a chance with a job Ilove how Yadira and Emory's smarts got them into legit businesses. I also love the 'Hitta' status that had to be done to handle hurdles, haters and hood devils. Sorry that Ice never came around to enjoy her family again, but in reality- when daddy issues are present.... the men we choose are the worst!! Great job Jai Love!!
I loved this series. It was so good. I loved how all the ladies and guys found love, family and friendship. I love me some Alaine because she road hard for her sister. I feel bad for what happened to Ice and Stacee but I’m glad Vaugn took care of that light work. That MF Felecia and Insane were truly scum and I’m glad they went out the way they did for doing them girls like that. I’m happy everything worked out for everyone.
Ohhhh man! I waited so long for this finale and it was worth the wait. The love between Vaughn and Yadira was pure. That love was everlasting and it made me tingle reading about it. That’s how real it was. I loved the brothers as well. This was a great continuation. Love, karma, and redemption.
This finals was worth the wait. It’s a good book that you don’t want to put down. I’m so glad KARMA showed up…. Cause some characters needed her. Jai Love you did not disappoint…. Looking forward to your next adventure.
I am so satisfied with the way this series ended. Yeah it was some shoulda, coulda, woulda moments but some outcomes is a part of the life you live and the choices you make. I'm glad that everyone that deserved happiness got it.😍😍
You can find your way out of the bottom of a barrel if you continue to climb, believe and release the toxic people from your life. Everyone has a different path, a reason, season and lifetime.
DNF’d at 19% I had been waiting months for this to be released only to be met with disappointed. For 77 pages, all the characters did was fight. The storyline wasn’t moving at all. Quite boring and underwhelming
Richie Jr. was taught right. We need a back story on Lady Jinx, Leesa & Alaine. She has to be somebody’s sister when Yadira said she looked like someone she knew.
