Alex Sanchez is more than just an ordinary detective. He’s on the prowl—as a vampire. Alex uses his unique gifts to police the mean streets of Chicago like a natural predator. But when he learns that local blood banks are being robbed, he’s not sure what rattles him more: the bizarre crime wave or the stunningly beautiful journalist who’s reporting it…
SHE’S RISKING HER NECK FOR A STORY.
Keira Turner is dedicated to her job—and determined to uncover the truth. Dangerously, out-of-this-world handsome Detective Sanchez seems oddly fascinated by the crimes—and obsessed with Keira. Alex might not have a clue who’s stealing blood but he’s sure of one thing: Keira is no mere mortal. She’s descended from a long line of vampire hunters. And if they try to solve this case together, he’ll have to fight the urge to kiss her…or kill her.
Cat Devon was a pseudonym for the award-winning author Cathie Linz. A former librarian and confessed bookaholic, she had a weakness for wickedly sexy vampires, imported dark chocolate and decadent cupcakes. She and her family lived in the Chicago area.
When Keira's grandfather passes, Keira discovers that her grandfather was a famous vampire hunter. As a reporter, she is determined to uncover the truth about the existence of vampires and her grandfather's notes lead her right to officer Alex...who happens to be a police officer and vampire.
Alex pretty much kidnaps Keira and takes her back to the vampire lair, well house but lair sound so much more nefarious, bottom line its Vampland.
Truth is Alex is unequivocally drawn to Keira and believes her to be his fated mate, the only problem...can he trust her or is this just a ploy to destroy him and his vampire friends.
Keira's motives remain a mystery and blame about the blood bank thievery is pointed in her direction.
Enters Lawrence, he is a vampire, a ruthless and blood thirsty leader of a Gold Coast vampires. Everything bad you ever heard about vampires, that is Lawrence personified.
This plot encumbers a vast amount of happenings but is not overly complex. Unfortunately, I was never completely pulled me in.
I did find Tall, Dark and Immortal to be a straight out fun, easy and enjoyable read.
I received this ARC copy of Tall, Dark, Immortal from St. Martin's Press in exchange for a honest review. This book is set for publication Sept. 1, 2015.
-The Good: I like the setup for the ‘verse and there’s alot of things that seemed intriguing, especially the conflict between the Gold Coast vamps and the ones in Vamptown. I liked that all of this is happening in the middle of Chicago, using Chi-town landmarks The different characters introduced seemed like it would be alot of fun and I always appreciate seeing Latinos as romantic leads. I thought the workaround for the vamps to travel under that big ole ball of heat called the sun was interesting. There were several twists on the traditional vampire mythology that I thought were clever and fun.
-The Bad: Alex and Keira didn’t really spark together and I’d probably have enjoyed it more if I’d connected with them. They said the right things, but I didn’t feel the chemistry and the sex was a bit more clinical than sexy. Moist being used as a descriptor tends to be offputting, at least to me.
-Everything in Between: Things go at a fast clip, and dialogue is rapid fire with few tags to really set the scene. Even with that, it still felt repetitive, especially in the beginning. It felt as if I’d read about Keira hiding her grandfather’s journal, and Alex thinks she may be The One over and over as a way to delay giving away the big beats. I get it, but it felt like recapping something I already knew, instead of giving me a better sense of the ‘verse that I was just joining and really had no clue how everyone interacts.
It was ok, but it felt like I was missing something, mostly a stronger connection between Alex and Keira. I wouldn’t rule out a return trip to this ‘verse, but I think I’d have to start from the beginning.

I haven't read the previous books in this series but liked the sound of the books synopsis and was intrigued enough to want to read it. The idea of a vampire detective working in Chicago and trying to hunt down those raiding blood banks actually made perfect sense as well you know vampires and blood! Add in that there's a particularly persistent journalist working on the story oh yes and she just happens to know that Alex is a vampire! Keira is quite a woman , a dedicated journalist who just happens to be part of a fierce vampire hunting family! Her late grandfather left word for her in his journal to contact Alex but life is about to get very complicated indeed! This was an interesting idea but for some reason I didn't really connect particularly with the characters . Perhaps because as part of a series I've missed things along the way. It's a sensuous read that's well written and with an easy plot to follow. There's a villain to boo and hiss at and a sweet ending . If you enjoy mystery and suspense in your romance then this book might just tempt you. Alas I'm informed this author has sadly past away so there will be no more books in this series I was gifted a copy in exchange for an honest review
Looking for a book that will have you on the edge of your seat, filled with a scrumptious immortal detective and a journalist who happens to be more then what he expected? Then Tall, Dark And Immortal by Cat Devon will have DYING for more.
Tall, Dark And Immortal is sexy, suspenseful, full of surprises, and is crackling with passion as the hero Alex and the feisty Journalist, Keira try to uncover who is stealing blood and who is after Keira and why. I had no problems getting into this book. I loved the action, the sizzling romance, and the twists and turns that Miss Devon accomplished with Tall, Dark And Immortal. The characters are well developed and the story captures the readers imagination and has them on the edge of their seats. Its well written with very few errors. I think this is an excellent book and I am looking forward to reading more books by Cat Devon.
I give this story a AMAZING FOUR SHOOTING STARS!! Its a fantastic tale and worth every penny. Fans of paranormal romance will fall all over themselves to get to Tall, Dark And Immortal. A VERY worthy read indeed!
"Tall Dark and Immortal," by Cat Devon, is a book that was published by someone. Someone looked at this pile of words and said "Huh, this is a thing that deserves to be printed on paper and sold for money." You know how people sometimes smugly say "Oh, gosh, this is just like BAD FANFICTION?????" That's what this book is. People smirk. A lot. They have tats. They're vamps who live in vamptown (like Greektown, but with vamps instead of Greeks). They "hack" into various things including camera feeds and hotel registration computers. Minor characters zip into scenes, drop exposition, and zip out again. Everyone, including the protagonist and love interest, have the depth and character development of a piece of airmail paper. Do you remember airmail paper? Light weight, slightly crinkly, almost transparent?
The book opens with Keira, a reporter, who is very curious because she's a reporter and reporters ask questions, bursting into the police station to demand to know why a specific cop (who is a Spicy Latino) isn't doing a better job investigating thefts from blood banks and also accuse him of being a vampire, because her grand dad left her a journal of vampire facts because he was a vampire hunter. Another vampire barges in. Alex, the cop vampire, whisks her away to his car, then decides to walk to her apartment instead. It's a few blocks away but it only takes a few lines of dialog to get there because he's a vampire speedwalker. Once there they surprise two vampires who've trashed the place (looking for the vampire hunter journal) and Alex speed walks her back to his sexy loft. While interrogating her, the woman he's abducted, pinning her to the wall, she gets super turned on and so does he. Physical restraint and threats are super sexy, you know?
There's a gay vampire who's super gay and dresses really well and has great design sense and did I mention he's gay? He does, like three times in one paragraph. Gay gay gay gay gay gay gay. And fabulous. He offers to help Keira pick out better clothes. Later, Keira and Alex have sex. She cums when he touches her tit; she cums the first time he thrusts into her. Insert penis, receive orgasms.
Vampires come in and drop infobombs. They drift out again. Humans come in and talk about how sexy they are and leave cupcakes. They drift away again. It turns out that Keira and Alex are destined to be hot lovers who have totally hot sex. A bunch of stuff happens. They go to different random places including a "love hotel." In Chicago. With a heart shaped bed. To hide out. Alex can walk around in the sunlight because of course he can, he's special. Keira gets captured by the bad guy vampire (who is like an old school Bond villain, killing henchmen right left and center) and trussed up in a glitter bikini because why not. He's got a super improbable plan that should be humanitarian but he intends to profit off of it. I want you to imagine Donald Trump as a a vampire, but with better hair, constantly talking about how he saved a company, I mean clan of vampires, and is going to make a bunch of money.
The jerky writing and tissue thin characterization aside, I was mostly disappointed by the lack of actual ROMANCE. It isn't even a sparks-flying antagonism-turns-to-attraction thing. Alex is popping boners from the first scene he appears in, Keira immediately wants to lick his kneecaps. And that's ok, sometimes people are just instantly attracted to each other. But this was all FATE!!!!! and THE LONGING!!!!!! and THE ONE!!!!!! and wanting to lay hot smooches on the ultra powered monster who's abducted you and is holding you hostage and physically restraining you. Also the sex scenes read like they're written by someone who's never had sex but has read a whole lot of sex scenes written by other people who've never had sex.
Also at one point Keira references "Princess Leah." I'm pretty sure she meant Princess Leia, but am not entirely positive. She's a big fan of Spider Man, though, and mentions him about ten times throughout the book, quickly followed by Alex reminding her that HE IS NO SUPER HERO, HE IS TORTURED AND ALONE (well, as alone as one can be when surrounded by friends and allies and co-workers who like and respect you).
I really really like vampires and am constantly on the lookout for vampire fiction that isn't utterly dreadful. This is... really not good. I'd read really good positive reviews for this book and I suspect that the reviewers and I somehow read vastly different books.
Keira Turner is still recovering from the death of her mother, while sorting through her mothers possessions she comes across a journal which belonged to her grandfather who died a year ago. The journal is unbelievable, it turns out the grandfather she believed was an accountant was in fact a vampire hunter and his journal tells her to seek out Detective Alex Sanchez in the Chicago Police Department who happens to be a vampire. Local blood banks are being robbed and Keira wants to find out exactly what's going on, she figures vampires must at the bottom of it, but why? This is the first book I've read by this author and I didn't realise is was actually book 4 when I requested it but it can be read as a standalone. I liked the blurb and I liked parts of the book but it somehow didn't really work for me mainly I think because Keira got on my nerves. A lot of the conversations between Keira and Alex just didn't work for me they felt forced and uncomfortable whereas Lynch was hilarious, it was worth reading the book for his lines alone I just wish there'd been more of them. I liked the secondary characters and this book was ok but only ok. I know it must have been a shock for Keira discovering vampires exist but was a bit much at times: '.....he was a vampire' 'Because you are a vampire' 'No, you're a vampire' 'Are you denying you're a vampire?' ...she knew he was a vampire '....You're a vampire' 'Is he a vampire too?' 'I was right. You are a vampire!' ......and this is just the first few pages. Also since I'm moaning I have to complain about how we kept getting told she was intelligent but there's nothing to substantiate this, when Alex flashes her out of her apartment a moment later they're somewhere else and Keira wonders if they're in Rumania!

This is an instal-love kinda romance book and the book takes place over only a few days, but a lot is packed into it.
Keira has lost both her grandfather and her mother in the last year, her mother only two months ago and it is only upon opening er mothers safe deposit box that her world is turned upside down.
Alex is a Vampire and a cop and as soon as Keira introduces herself to Alex her world turns upside down.
There are a few unanswered questions left at the end of the book and i did find that things wrapped up very fast at the end of the book, however they did seem to suit each other with both good at asking questions due to the nature of their jobs.
This book does not need to be read as part of the series and can be read as a stand alone book.
This was a quick, fast paced fun summer read. Though this book isn't short it's one of those books you blow through really quickly not even realizing it because you are having so much fun reading. Though I haven't read the other book in this series I had no problem following the storyline and keeping up, I think this is one of those stories that if you read the entire series you get more, more background, more info about other characters and more world building but if you choose to read only one or you read out of order(mmm which I seem to do a lot) you have no problem and you don't feel lost or like you are missing anything major or something that hinders the storyline for you.
One day changed Keira life completely after her mother died Keira found her grandfathers journal opening a whole new world to her she never knew existed of vampires and vampire hunters(who her kind loving accountant grandfather really was). Reading the journal ended with a message from her late grandfather telling her to find detective Alex Sanchez. Being a journalist and having a godchild gravely ill that depends on blood transfusions when there is a rash of blood bank thefts, and with the instructions from her grandfather Keira decides it is time to go meet detective Alex who is also a vampire. Confronting him changes everything.
Alex never thought a woman like Keira would walk into his office and confront him while letting him know he is a vampire all along demanding he help solve the blood bank problem his clan is very well aware of. When he tries and fails to wipe her memory and finds out who her grandfather is he has no choice but to take her especially when it seems other mercenary vampires are after her.
Now both Alex and Keira have to convince a ton of vampires, demon hunters, and witches in Alex's clan that Keira is innocent, all while acclimating Keira to the new world she finds herself in. If that isn't enough the pull they have for each other is something neither has ever felt and it soon becomes very obvious is something special. Trying to find out who the thieves are and clear Keira's name Alex try's to convince Keira that she can trust him with something that could change the world as they all know it, while also trying to keep them both safe so that they can find the truth to the connection they have.
There were parts of this book that I wished could have been drawn out more and delved deeper into but after finishing this book I know that it wouldn't have fit. Nothing important is left out but I'm just a person who wants a lot of time spent of the relationship, and though there is in this relationship I just would have liked more to connect even more with Alex and Keira. It seem this is a series where each book you get nice little follow ups so it's sad that won't be happening. I was truly sad to hear about this authors passing, she was amazingly talented. This would have been a series I would have really liked to have continued. I had a lot of fun reading this book, and it was just what I needed right now it had it all action, some funny moments, and a really nice romance.
Thank you NetGallery, and St. Martin's press for my ARC copy in exchange for my review.
TALL, DARK AND IMMORTAL grabbed my attention because of its Chicago setting. A crime-fighting vampire and a journalist sounded like a perfect pair and I couldn't wait to get started. Unfortunately, the book couldn't wait to get ridiculous. The Chicago setting ended up being one of the only redeeming quality in a book with a absurd plot, an over-the-top evil villain, and an insta-romance that just didn't do it for me.
First of all, Keira. She has no sense of self-preservation. She, in the first chapter, confronts a man she believes is a vampire, and doesn't seem to get that her newfound knowledge is going to put her in danger. The situations she ends up in as a result are just plain unbelievable. And Alex doesn't help - he acts like an idiot around Keira, because of his feelings for her (that magically developed within hours) and makes rather stupid decisions as a result.
There were a lot of weird questions that didn't get answered in the book. For example, there seemed to be some sort of prophecy about Keira and Alex. It was a completely needless plot-line, and it wasn't resolved by the end. We were no more in the know than we were at the beginning. My other issue was the cliched villain. He was so crazy and "evil," that it just didn't make sense. Spoiler alert? He killed so many of his henchmen, I started to wonder where he was getting them all! Vampires don't grow on trees, after all.
My last disappointment with TALL DARK AND IMMORTAL was the ending. It seemed like the author took a cop-out, tying up some loose ends with a completely new kind of paranormal activity that didn't seem to exist prior to that moment when it happened. Given, I'm also not familiar with the Entity series, so it could have made sense if you had knowledge of the prior books.
For a book that's paranormal romance, I tend to suspend disbelief quite a bit. But for TALL DARK AND IMMORTAL, I had a hard time getting past the complete lack of chemistry between the two main characters, and then beyond belief actions of the villain, and the way the ending was done. If you're a fan of the previous books, you may find some redeeming qualities in this one, however, if you're not already a reader of the series, I would definitely not suggest jumping in with TALL DARK AND IMMORTAL.
Alex Sanchez is sure that Keira is no mere mortal and if he’s going to work with her to solve the blood bank robberies he’ll have to fight the urge to kiss her…or kill her in this exciting paranormal romance.
Keira is determined to uncover the truth even if pushing the detective on the case could be dangerous and the reader can’t help but get caught up in this combustible romance full of edgy tension and passion. The chemistry between Keira and Alex take them both by surprise and has fireworks exploding but since neither is sure if the other is the enemy or not, the relationship is balanced on a razor’s edge throughout keeping tensions high. Strong, captivating characters grab the reader’s attention from the very beginning while the fast paced, smooth flowing plot thrills readers with lots of suspense, excitement and romance.
Expectation builds throughout the story as the investigation into the robberies of the blood banks becomes deadly and the danger escalates as others become aware of just who Keira is putting her life in danger from bad guys and good guys alike, which adds lots of adrenaline pumping excitement to the story with unexpected twists keeping the readers on their toes. The well written scenes and details capture the imagination, making it easy for the reader to picture each and every scene while the intriguing events ensure that there is never a dull moment.
Cat Devon’s vampire world is fascinating with sexy characters and interestingly different elements that add spice and flair to her stories with some snarky dialogue that guarantees that the characters have some fun and entertaining encounters along with the thrilling and passionate encounters. Alex and Keira’s story starts off with excitement and continues throughout which means that there was no way I could put the story down once I started reading it and I can’t wait to find out what happens next in the thrilling Entity world.
This has been a year that I feel like it has been extremely difficult to uncover a deviant, paranormal novel that is worth raving about. To be fair there have been a few exceptions and Tall, Dark and Immortal is at the top of my list as thankfully Devon rescued me from the drowning slump that I found myself in.
As the title states Alex is the faultless, vampire hero that I want to find in such novels. I savored Alex's determination to be both vampire and to be human. In many ways the vampire that he had become overpowered his humanity which is exactly what I wanted to see. He became almost possessed with Keira, the heroine who just happens to come from a long line of vampire slayers.
The chemistry between these two just erupted from the start. It was slightly twisted and dark just as an immoral/mortal relationship should be and yet the darker tone of the book did not overwhelm the romance. The attraction shared between both Alex and Keira was believable from the start and just as hot.
Having highlighted the romance (one of the best parts) of the book I want to include how much I enjoyed the plot. It was full of suspense and action as Alex and Keira sought to uncover the mystery behind the robberies of the local, blood banks.
Oddly as it may sound this book does not lack anything-as I have mentioned it has romance, action, steamy scenes and a vampire hero that is worth surrendering your heart to. To put it simply-Devon's last book was perhaps her best book and I know that this is one paranormal romance that I will continue to reread time and time again.

This is 4th book of the Entity series based in Chicago, I haven't had the pleasure of reading the early ones (I will do) ... I could follow the story as it's a about a different couple with the characters from earlier books to come into it. I would say if you need to start from the beginning then I would suggest to read the 1st book in the series to set the pace.
We meet gorgeous detective Alex Sanchez who happened to be a vampire, yum yum!! He's not your typical cop that you expect. And this woman Kiera Turner a reporter turned up in his office demanding to know & follow the story about this blood banks thefts, as she's taking this onto a personal level since her nephew needs constant blood infusions. She knows that vampires exist to Alex's dismay!!! Love their banter around that subject!
Her grandfather left her this amazing box with all the information & that where he reveals he was a well known vampire hunter/slayer, the vampires never knew his true identity. Until she starts to ask those questions to Alex.
I really enjoyed reading this as I do love paranormal stories, if that's right up your street, then give this one a read.
This is my first book by Cat Devon and I really enjoyed it! I loved this new twist on the vampire legends and as well as the rest of the paranormal characters in the story. I picked up the book because the synopsis sounded great. Even though it’s the fourth book in a series, I didn’t feel lost and was easily able to read it and understand what was going on.
What I really enjoyed about the book was that it was dialogue driven. The story moved fluidly and was fast-paced. The characters were interesting and I loved that there were a couple of mysteries woven into the story.
Alex and Keira had great chemistry and a quick-witted banter that constantly had me laughing. The secondary characters were great and I found myself wanting to know more about their stories. I’ll be adding the previous books in the series to my reading list.
TALL, DARK AND IMMORTAL is a fun, fast read with highly entertaining characters, steamy romance, a little intrigue and a lot of quirky humor. The book can easily read as a standalone and I’d recommend it to any reader who enjoys a good paranormal romance!
***I was gifted an eBook copy from the publisher via Net Galley in exchange for an honest review. All conclusions reached are my own***
There is not a lot to be said about this novel really, it is pretty much just a really good vampire romance.
The heroine and hero are not exactly on the best of terms at the start but as expected they get over that and it becomes an adventure/romance that I enjoyed reading.
While there was not a lot of surprising things or terribly original things, that does not keep it from being entertaining and enjoyable.
I was not impressed with the "evil" guy, he was so horribly a caricature of a bad guy he was almost comical.
So by the end of the book the only thing I really needed to do was decide on 3 or 4 stars. I went with 4 Stars but it was a close thing for several reasons, not the least of these was the "Oh, you were trying to kill me but that's OK, we will just overlook that" . WTF??? I am a revenge junkie and that did not even sit well with me but maybe others will not be as bothered by it as I was, at least draw it out and make it painful to get forgiveness. Anyway 4 Stars mainly for the overall story which I did enjoy even with the comical bad guy (he was not supposed to be comical I should mention)
The main characters Kierra and Alex were fun, cute and exciting as individuals and as a couple. Kierra is a strong woman who is feisty and ready to take on anything. I loved how inquisitive she was and that Alex was the same way. Alex is sweet, honorable and a hero with a hidden past that was taboo to talk about. I kind of wish Alex was more open to sharing his past in detail with Kierra who could fall harder for the sweet man he is.
Overall, this book was fun with lots of action and romance. I’m actually looking forward to starting the series from the beginning. Perhaps then I’ll be able to have more of a relationship with the other characters that had cameo appearances with Alex and Kierra throughout the book.

The characters in this series are very well developed and so much fun to get to know. I still wish that some of the story continued from the previous books but other than that it's a great read. I enjoy stories that have suspense and action in them and this one did not disappoint. Something seemed to happen on every page that kept me wanting more. I'm a very curious person so I have to know what happens next and this story pulled me in and didn't let me go until the last page.
I enjoyed this 4th book in Cat Devon's Entity series, but I do think you need to have read the earlier books. All the characters return in Tall Dark and Immortal and it can be confusing. The book takes place in Chicago and its main characters are a reporter whose grandfather was a famous vampire hunter/slayer, and a police detective who is a vampire. Besides vampires, there are witches, demons, and time travel. There is a lot of humor in the story and dialog. I received a copy from Netgalley for review.
I was gifted this novel by Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
What a fun, easy, enjoyable read. This is my first novel by Cat Devon and I will be going back and reading the prior novels in the series.
I was looking for a fun read and this novel gave me the fun with a dash of suspense, mystery and a bunch of wondeful characters. It was simple and not to complex...perfect. a 4 star read for me.
Some of that is because I FINISHED IT, but honestly I am sort of at a loss about the whole thing. The main thing that got me to the end was just my complete bafflement over why this was even a finished book and not a rough draft that needed to be fleshed out.
My Issues (In no particular order)
1) HER NAME IS PRINCESS LEIA. Saying you're like Princess Leah without the blaster...... I just...... I physically cannot. If you don't even know the character's name, why even mention the character? She includes Wonder Woman and Spider-Man, and doesn't get them confused or wrong (though Spider-Man is the only one she actually goes into any VAGUE description of powers-wise).
2) Why is this title not the same as the others? As much as I hate these titles and the word 'entity', at least they had that linking them together. This one doesn't even seem like a part of the others.
3) What the hell was up with the inclusion of the "gay" vampire? I put it in quotes because the only thing "gay" about him was that he kept saying he was gay. Also I am pretty sure his significant other was named Pat, and he basically was there long enough to say that he was there. Just stop. Don't. Like just don't.
4) She used "moist", and.... No.
5) OMG THE VILLAIN POV JUST MAKE IT STOP. It was horrible and the villain was just so DUMB and BORING. Honestly, about 70% through I started skipping those, because my eyes HURT from rolling so hard. There was no real point to any of them. It just took away from the main storyline.
6) It was so repetitive. Not just with the villain POV, though that was basically c/p with small changes each time. Each mostly interchangeable girl came in to talk to the heroine and each one said the same things and she kept saying she asked questions because she was a reporter. He kept saying he asked questions because he was a cop. It could have been about 100 pages if the excess was cut. Maybe less.
Kind of glad this was the only one of these books I have read/had on hand from finding them at thrift stores or the Book Thing. It's going right back in the donation bag.
All I have to say about this book is that the characters were terrible, the main live interest is a fucking horrible person, the writing is elementary, the plot is horribly messy, and the only gay character in this was only identifiable as gay by the fact that he has a high sense of fashion and that he is a Pilates teacher. Needless to say, when I finished it, I threw it multiple times, dropped it in the toilet and flushed it, then took it out and threw it in the garbage. Do not read this fucking book. Not to mention the fact that the sex scenes used words like “moist vagina”, “derrière”, “bottom”, and “earthquakes of pleasure (or something to that effect).” This book is quite possibly the actual worst book I’ve ever read.
Overall rating: 0%. Don’t even bother looking at this abomination.
There were so many times that I wanted to DNF (do not finish) this book. I just couldn't take it. She was kidnapped and she falls in love with her captor. No one believes/trusts her and she's okay with that.
Honestly, I don't know why the vampires made such a big deal about not being able to compel the women. All they had to do was kiss the girl and the women all rolled over and showed their bellies. Not a single one of the women cared that she was totally kidnapped. Not a single one of the women cared about her trauma after being a claustrophobic experience. Not a single person cared enough to feed her. (A mini-cupcake every other day is not enough!)
She was manipulated and abducted and treated evilly for most of the book but it's all okay because she's in love/lust. Ugh!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Cat Devon is a new author for me and I thoroughly enjoyed this book and will be reading more of her. This book grabbed me from page 1 and didn't let go until the last page. I was able to picture the characters and the things happening in the storyline. The female protagonist is a strong badass woman! The vampire was everything you would want in one, strong, tough, romantic and sexy. I would recommend this book and rated it 5/5.
DNF 100+ pages. I skimmed a fair amount to get past the 100 page mark. I think this type of book might not be for me anymore. I liked the first few in the series but it's been awhile since I read those and I just couldn't get into this. I didn't really like either of the main characters and I did not care what was going on at all.
I didn't expect much from this book, and it still let me down. It's been a week and I literally don't remember anything other than disliking it. I think if the ending had been stronger I might have given it a 3.
Definitely keeping this book to reread later on. The chemistry between the main characters was hot. Figuring out whom was stealing from local blood banks and why; I couldn’t put the book down. I hadn’t read any of the other books in this series and was fine to read as a stand-alone.
Up until a short time ago the heroine was as blissfully ignorant of the existence of vampires as the rest of the human popular. But now that her grandfather has died, she's given his journal detailing how vampires are real and that he was a famous vampire hunter. And with the local blood banks being robbed and her godson’s life on the line, her grandfather recommendation to seek out the hero is looking to be her only choice for aid. It's either extremely brave of her or extremely stupid to intentionally confront a vampire about the blood banks raid and it's looking like option B is the winner. She's immediately kidnapped and taken prisoner by the sexy aloof and sarcastic policeman vampire hero.
He says her imprisonment is for her own safety, that the vampires from another clan are looking to possess her and her grandfather’s journal but the heroine isn't fooled. She knows they want the journal just as badly and will do anything for it. Even seduction. That's what the heroine thinks at least when the normally cool, distant hero decides to get closer to her. The hero however knows his motives are true. He's experienced the Longing, something his sire warned him about but something he never thought could happen to him. The fiery reporter cannot possibly be The One, can she? No, she's the daughter of the infamous Executioner and the hero himself was next on the hit list before the old man's death. She carries hunter blood in her veins and is destined to be his enemy. Then why does he feel like she's destined to be so much more?
When his own people turn on her, he breaks the law to save her and escape their justice. On the run, the two know that they have only themselves to rely upon. They may not trust each other completely but with time, their bond grows. Dealing with the issues of saving her godson, finding the journal, defeating the rival clan and the hero's own clan- how much more until they break?
What a totally pointless, dull and lifeless book. Written in the back, where the author bio should be, it says this author is award winning- I don't that very much. I have no idea what award is deserving of robotic and uninspired writing as this, where the characters basically talk at each other for 300 pages but I didn't even feel it warranted a participation ribbon. Just a taste of how dull this book was, this is a typically conversation. "It's your future I'm worried about. It's in jeopardy." " In what way?" " From Vampires." "How do you know this?" " I know." "Did you read the journal?" He nodded.........God freaking lord, please shoot me in the head now a put me out of my misery. What do I do this to myself? Why do I read these short, good for nothing books, time and time again even knowing how bad they are going to be? It's my own fault, I guess. Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. Well I guess I should talk about the characters, huh? The heroine was the typically nosey and sassy reporter who had more questions than brains. No surprise there. The hero, I actually thought at one time, I could have liked. He was curt and deadpan and accepted no nonsense but he wasn't enough to make this book even halfway to enjoyable.
So my mom love her is not like me and looks to see if books are apart of a series. So we’re on vacation and I ran out of books to read. I know rookie mistake. So my mom had this book that she had reread a few times. And was done with for the whatever time. And so she offered it to me. Up until this point I had not really read a actual romance book. This series but more importantly this book made me want to only read romance. I have been obsessed with that genre of books. This book was amazing and loved it so much! I can not recommend it enough and all of my friends who have read it have loved it!
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest opinion.
Keira is a reporter and the granddaughter of a famous Vampire hunter. Alex is a detective and a Vampire. What a combination.....
Keira wants to know why nothing is being done to solve why blood banks are being robbed. She has a personal interest, her Godson has a rare disease and needs transfusions on a regular basis. She is afraid there will be none for him.
She storms into Alex' office, demanding to know why nothing is being done. She doesn't know that he is very into the investigation, more for the Vampire community than the human. She knows he is a Vampire because she has just read it in her Grandfather's journal. Her grandfather told her to go to Alex, that he would help.
Alex is taken aback when she tells him she knows he's a Vampire. He doesn't know how to process the information because he doesn't know if her intentions are to harm the Vampires or not, so he takes her back to his loft at Vampland after they go to her apartment and find it broken into and tossed.
He needs the journal but she won't tell him where it is, neither know if the others intentions are honorable or not. Then her apartment is set on fire and he knows someone is after her, probably after the journal as well, which is supposed to contain information the Vampires have been looking for.
Our Villain is Lawrence Lynch and he is over the Gold Coast Vampires. It is really a dictatorship, he just kills those of his crew who displease him. At least the Vampland vamps have a democracy.
So, the questions arise....is Keira out to become the next hunter? Does she have something to do with the Blood Bank robberies or is it a ploy between the Gold Coast vamps and Vampland? And best of all, will Keira and Alex survive to be together?
Alex and Keira's attraction was pretty steamy although the act wasn't drawn out. The story itself was good although not "very deep".. The story was explained, written well and had closure. I don't mean that negatively in any way, I would just call it a lighter read.
An example would be.... Alex remember when he was turned during battle at Iwo Jima. He thought about his anger at what he was and how much harm he caused while he adjusted to his transformation. This was never really talked about about between the couple but this is possibly a normal process for a Vampire according to many other books we have read. A point his Sire made was this was meant to be for Alex, even though he could not say why.
So, if you want your Vampire without a super complicated storyline than this is your book.
Tall, Dark and Immortal is the first book in this series that I have read but I had no trouble picking it up and diving right in without reading the previous stories first.
Keira has just been thrown head first into a world she never dreamed could actually be real- vampires only exist in fairy tales, right? Finding out that her grandfather who she always thought was an accountant was also an infamous vampire hunter just did her head in! As a journalist, she wants to get to the bottom of the story and find out if it is true or if her grandfather had lost his grip on reality suddenly, so she waltzes into the Chicago PD and confronts the man her grandfather sent her to in his last letter to her- Detective Alex Sanchez.
Alex cannot believe this mortal just walked up to his desk and casually drops a bomb on him stating she knows he is a vampire! He has enough to contend with at the moment with blood bank thefts and a pending fight with a neighboring vampire clan so the granddaughter of The Executioner showing up in his life at a very inopportune moment is inconvenient to say the least. Then all hell breaks loose as the paranormal world sets its sights on Keira to either grab her grandfather's journal for the vast knowledge it holds or kill her- or maybe both. So Alex whisks her off to his place, essentially holding her hostage to keep her safe and the battle of wills is on. As they both try to figure out exactly what is so important in her grandfather's journal that makes it valuable to so many people, Alex and Keira both fight the strong connection that springs up between them almost as soon as they meet.
Throughout the first half of the book, Keira was very difficult for me to like. Her life was thrown into chaos, but she sounded like a whiny broken record and I actually had to put the book to the side for a bit because of her. But in the end, I really wanted to know the outcome so I did pick it back up and read straight through to the end. Alex was just the right amount of broody, hot and funny, and eventually I got to the point where I didn't want to stab Keira with a spork to give her a real reason to whine. The mystery element picked up in the second half along with the action which made it a fast read to the end for me. Overall I would give this one 3 stars for the first half and 4 stars for the second half mostly on the merits of Alex's actions during the second part of the story.

Tall, Dark and Immortal, Cat Devon Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews Genre: Romance, Fantasy/Paranormal I’ve read the first book in this series, and the novella but somehow missed books two and three. It didn’t matter as I was able to slip seamlessly into the events surrounding Vamp Town. This is a fun series, light but with a decent backstory and easy to read. It’s got snippets of subtle humour creeping in every now and then that made me smile, and I really enjoyed the story. Its not a deep, heavy, brooding paranormal, full of blood, murders and drama, nor a light and fluffy type with alpha males grunting commands whilst peeling off the lady's clothes...Its just a fun read, one you can put down and pick up without having to back track to recall the plot(s ). I liked Kiera, gutsy to the point of foolhardy, though I did get a bit tired of the “ I’m a reporter...” refrain by the end. She jumps right in when she finds out about the blood thefts, having just discovered that vampires are real...and that her grandfather was a famous vampire hunter! She’s a personal interest in the blood thefts, her godson needs frequent transfusions and is a rare blood type, and without them he could die. So it seems to her axiomatic that the vampires would be involved – and she wades straight in. Alex, vampire detective, is astonished by her. He’s not sure whether to admire her bravery, or chastise her for being so stupid as to confront a vampire with accusations. He’s surprised at himself, she’s the last person he needs to be involved with and yet the sizzle between them, the way she just feels so right for him, can’t be ignored. Its a fun read, building on past books, but one its easy to follow if like me you’ve not read all of them. Its a light but decent plot, allowing for some snarky humour and some great one liners, as well as bringing in a mystery to puzzle out. The search for who is responsible for the blood theft brings them both into danger, throws them even closer together and forces them both to take a closer look at the romance that seems unstoppable between them. Stars: Five, it a really fun read, perfect for when you’ve not time to read a whole book but want one you can easily pick up the story when you’ve next got some free time.
