I find congruence between what the book offers on Executive EQ, and what we offer in our Executive Development programs for individuals and teams, as well as organisation-wide large scale change programs. It is my recommendation that this book forms part of required reading by all executives that seek to create highly competitive and transformed organisations. Our own socio-political, and economic challenges in South Africa, require that we have in our midst, abundance of high levels of Executive EQ, to create a highly competitive nation.Executive EQ
The authors make the point that leaders must exhibit Emotional Intelligence, not just IQ to be successful. There are 4 cornerstones of emotional intelligence: 1) emotional literacy (getting in touch w/ your emotions); 2) emotional fitness (authentic presence & building trust); 3) emotional depth (applied integrity, influence w/o authority) & 4) emotional alchemy (intuitive flow, opportunity sensing & creating the future). An updated edition (the book was written in 1996) w/ updated business examples would be an improvement. I found the best parts of the book were the personal stories like when where one of the authors describes his encounters in Tibet.
This is an interesting and eye-opening book on emotional intelligence in leadship and organizations. The author claims "EQ" is more importnat than "IQ."
