Martin Luther King Jr. never expected to be a leader. All he wanted was for black people like him to be treated fairly in America. But what began as a small protest soon became a revolution Usborne Famous Lives retell the stories of fascinating people, bringing them to life so vividly, it's as if you're there with them.

This chapter book provides a short, but very detailed story of the life of Martin Luther King Jr. It includes many entertaining illustrations that keep the reader engaged from page to page as they dive deeper into the story of this remarkable leader. I enjoyed this book because it described many different sides of King, including his life as a child, a student, and a famous leader. I think it is beneficial to read about every angle that describes King so the readers can get an accurate picture of his true character. I would encourage my students to read this book because I feel like they could learn a lot of valuable information on leadership. King can show them what it means to be a leader and how to be one from the events of his life described in this book.

Social Justice Issue Raised: Racism and The Civil Rights
I read a big chunk of this to a 3rd grade class. It was so well written, I decided to hurry amd finish it during my prep time. It is a great childrens book. It teaches about some important US history in a way that children can access it. I was able to lead some great discussions you might not think 3rd graders (8 and 9 year olds) capable of having. It makes me want to read it with my own kids!
I liked the book and it the book itself was about martin luther king Jr he would not be on the book if he hadn't changed the way we currently live in. the book talks about him and the book is great to read.
this book is also amazing because it talks about about racial injustice and how african amaericans had to live in this cruel world.
I read this to my class. This book explores the life of Martin Luther King Jr., his belief in peace, and his want for change. It includes 8 chapters and ranges from his birth to his death. It has real photographs and includes various text features. The readers remained engaged throughout and had some amazing discussions as they dove deeper into the story.
I feel the Browder v. Gayle case should have been explained briefly. The supreme Court ruling just droped out of nowhere on p35, leading the reader to wonder how the supreme court got involved.
Otherwise this seems written well for a children's book. Story like, engaging and to the point.

Fantastic book! This is a great book that succinctly discusses the life of MLKJ and his thinking during his march against segregation. There are great pictures used that show the passion and the fear people had during this time.
