Der junge Mann lässt keinen Zweifel offen, was er will.
Sometimes all you need is a cozy romance that feels like wrapping yourself in your favorite sweater on a crisp autumn afternoon.
The Wild Forty Season was exactly that.
One of the things I appreciated most was its refreshing premise. Romance heroines over forty are still far too rare, and Blake Dahlia proves that love stories don't become less exciting with age. Quite the opposite. Emilia, at 42, and Grey, at 24, bring a fresh perspective to the age-gap trope that feels both charming and believable.
The writing is light, atmospheric, and wonderfully easy to read. Frequent text messages keep the pacing lively, while the cozy autumn setting in New York creates the perfect backdrop for a romance that never takes itself too seriously. The spice is present, but it complements the relationship instead of overshadowing it.
From both an author's and a psychologist's perspective, I found the central conflict interesting. Emilia naturally questions whether she can imagine a future with a much younger man. Unlike many age-gap romances, however, the novel doesn't overdramatize those doubts. That is both its greatest strength and, for me personally, its greatest weakness.
The absence of unnecessary drama makes this an incredibly relaxing read. At the same time, I occasionally wished the characters had been explored with a little more emotional depth. The simplicity of the plot keeps the focus firmly on Emilia and Grey, but it also leaves some of their inner conflicts only lightly touched upon.
That said, this is exactly the kind of book I would recommend for a cozy autumn weekend. Warm, romantic, humorous, and comforting without becoming emotionally overwhelming.
And thanks to Emilia's wonderful circle of friends, I'm already curious to meet the heroines of the next three Forty Season books.
A lovely beginning to what promises to become a delightful series.
