High Performance Responsive Design: Building Faster Sites Across Devices

Rate this book
Responsive Web Design (RWD) requires a more abstract way of responding to a user's behavior and environment. There's a delicate balance between designing for a user's context and insuring that the performance of the design is not weighed down by special elements.

"High Performance Responsive Design" is the first book to approach RWD with performance in mind. Author Tom Barker, a software engineer, solutions architect, and technical manager, shows you how to create website designs that are both high performing and compelling for the context of the user.

RWD's dirty secret today is how bloated everyone's implementations are. Many developers are loading sites full of the styles, images, and JavaScript for all of their break points--and designers are starting to complain about RWD's performance implications. This book will help you build a site that reaches top performance on all platforms.

This book is aimed more at web developers than UX designers. I learned more about back end influences on website performance, so it was valuable; however not being in its main target audience I skipped through the more technical parts.
