To better understand and appreciate the author's perspective, it is helpful to know the unvarnished history of Germany following the Treaty of Versailles. One comprehensive book I have found is "Hitler: Born at Versailles" by Leon Degrelle. "Positive Christianity" deals with the establishment of the National Socialist party in 1930s Germany under Hitler, and how Christianity was supposed to be a part of that movement. The author makes no apology for Hitler (always referring to him as the Fuhrer), but does mention a couple of Hitler's top lieutenants (Martin Bormann and Heinrich Himmler) as the men who were responsible for the author's arrest and confinement. Not named but implicated as the man who confiscated the author's writing is Hitler's head of propaganda - Joseph Goebbels. There are some significant problems with some of the author's doctrinal positions. Specifically, he considers the Old Testament to be inferior to the New Testament; he continually writes of mankind seeking God, yet the Scriptures testify of the opposite - no man seeks the true God until he is drawn to Him by grace. It would be interesting to know if the author ever changed his thinking about Hitler, or if he simply viewed Hitler as a good leader who unfortunately surrounded himself with the wrong kind of advisors.
