Stockholm: A Dark, Captivity Romance

Rate this book
She looks so innocent.
No matter how many days I show up, watching from the treeline, it’s always the same. Peaceful. Serene.
Emma SeabornShe’s so beautiful that a part of me hates the thought of what’s coming for her. How I’ll rip her from her comfortable little bubble and thrust her into my world. Dark, teeming with revenge.
Another part of me craves what I’ll do. What I’ll make her do.
No, it’s not her fault she’s married to the man at the top of my list of targets. Especially if she doesn’t know there’s a monster inside the man who gave her that ring.
But she will pay the price, regardless.

This book was so damn good. Flying through the pages like the captor was after me. Loved the writing style, the plot, the characters. It was fast paced and it kept me hooked every single page. I first thought it was q standalone, but turns out it's the first book in a series. Not a brutal cliffhanger but just a open ending.

So about the story📚
The story is about Emma, who is a sweet and docile housewife. Her upbringing learned her how to best take care of her husband Eric. And yes thats her whole life. Than one day she is kidnapped with her best friend Bo. Their captors Jesse and Noah turn her world totally upside down when she learned that her happy marriage isn't so happy afterall. Maybe the monster was closer to home than she tought.

"I can't figure out if you're the angel he calls you, or just another monster pretending to be innocent."

"I still can't believe you took this well-thought out plan we've worked on for so long and just casually tacked on a kidnapping side-plot because you liked him."

"I never said I wasn't a monster. I never said I wasn't the bad guy. You should fear me."

This story had me completely sucked in from the very beginning. Emma is a doting and innocent housewife who has been told to always please her husband. But what she doesn’t know is that she’s being watched from her tree line. Noah and Jesse have a mission to capture Emma to make her husband pay for what he did to their family. But in kidn@pping Emma, they also take Bo, Emma’s best friend. Bo becomes a happy collateral for Jesse. It's definitely a happy collateral on both sides. I don't know what it is about a "good boy," that just makes me bite my lip!! Going into this book, I knew it was going to be a series. What I didn't know was that it was going to end like that! I got to the end, and I needed MORE! I just.. I DIDN'T WANT IT TO END! Now I certainly can't wait for book 2!

Stockholm by L. Taylor
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
🔪🔪🔪🔪

First and foremost, I want to thank L. Taylor for gifting me an e-arc of Stockholm and allowing me to read this ahead of release. This review is voluntary and all opinions are honest and my own.

Where do I even start?! This book had my attention the moment I saw, but actually reading? I’m currently in a fucking chokehold. Don’t get me wrong, it’s titled Stockholm for a reason (and in my opinion, I think she covers two ways Stockholm could be applied in this book, one obvious and one not so obvious).

I haven’t kicked my feet, clutched my pearls, and said “well I’m fucking warm” so much in a book in a minute. The plot line to this book is *chefs kiss* for me and Emma learning and growing into herself is wonderful. Her relationship with Bo was also beautiful to be apart of. UM. I was NOT prepared for Daddy Noah and Daddy Jesse’s dominance in this book and I would 100% crawl for either one of them.

This was so good. It's definitely called Stockholm for a reason and I loved the way the affection developed over time, you could actually see the changes happening so slightly. As the reader, I felt like I was developing Stockholm Syndrome for Noah lol. The pacing was perfect. I need book 2 immediately.

I don't want to leave any spoilers since it's not released yet... but wow! The author's writing does a great job at captivating you from the very beginning. I was hooked! The story has very dark themes, so check the triggers, but I feel like it was handled well for the subjects that were touched on. As well as you can in a spicy romance. And let me tell you... the spice was spicy 🔥 It does end on a cliffhanger and I CANNOT WAIT for the next book.

L. Taylor's Stockholm is a sizzling dark romance that immerses readers in a gripping tale of betrayal, transformation, and unexpected desire. The story centers on Emma, a seemingly innocent and devoted wife, who finds her life turned upside down when mercenaries kidnap her and her best friend as part of a revenge plot against her husband, a predator who has successfully concealed his dangerous life from her.

From the outset, the tension is palpable as Emma's world unravels. The revelation of her husband's sordid activities adds layers of complexity to her character, pushing her away from the archetype of the submissive housewife and into a new realm of self-discovery. The author masterfully depicts Emma’s evolution, capturing her awakening to the darker, more thrilling aspects of life and relationships.

The chemistry between Emma and her captor is electric, and the novel's spice level is undeniably high. L. Taylor doesn't shy away from exploring the complexities of power dynamics, making their interactions both steamy and thought-provoking. The unexpected twists and turns kept me on the edge of my seat, with moments that made me gasp and laugh out loud.

Taylor's writing is both engaging and evocative, effortlessly drawing readers into Emma's journey. Each character is well-developed, contributing to a rich narrative that explores themes of identity, agency, and the nature of desire.

If you're a fan of dark romance, found family dynamics, and hot villains, Stockholm is a must-read. L. Taylor continues to amaze with her ability to craft stories that are both thrilling and deeply resonant. I wholeheartedly recommend this book. It's an exhilarating ride that you won't want to miss!

OMG! Check your trigger warnings! This is dark but also... CHAPTER 25 has me screaming in pure JOY!

L. Taylor’s Stockholm takes the dark romance genre and pushes it into a space where tension, betrayal, and unexpected passion collide. What begins as the terrifying ordeal of an innocent wife, Emma, is kidnapped alongside her best friend, Bo, quickly unravels into a story of deception, awakening, and complicated desire. Ohhh that complicated desire is delicious!

At the heart of the novel is Emma, The Kept, whose world shatters when two dark, enigmatic strangers, Jesse and Noah, abduct her under the belief that she knows more about her husband’s involvement in human trafficking than she admits. The premise is chilling, yet Taylor weaves it with slow-burning intensity, balancing fear with fascination as Emma begins to question everything she thought she knew about her so-called devoted husband. The lies he told are out of this world.

The true twist lies not only in the revelation of her husband’s sinister double life, but also in her own awakening. As she spends time with her captors—and even her steadfast best friend—layers of vulnerability, attraction, and power shift until the line between captive and willing participant blurs, between ALL parties.

Taylor’s writing keeps the reader hooked, offering darkly magnetic characters whose chemistry leaps off the page. The “dark, tall, and handsome” strangers embody danger and allure, while the best friend’s presence adds a layer of emotional tension and trust that deepens the stakes. Together, they create a dynamic that is equal parts unsettling and intoxicating.

Stockholm is not for the faint of heart—it dives into morally gray territory, asking readers to wrestle with discomfort while also indulging in the addictive pull of dark romance. It’s a story that lingers long after the last page, raising the question: how well do we ever really know the ones we love?
I can't wait for book 2! Sign me up and throw away the key, please haha

And ya'll.... chapter 25- is HAWT!

5⭐️ THIS. WAS. A. PERFECT. UNRAVELLING.

I don’t think devour is the right word for my Stockholm read. I gorged this book down like it was my last meal. My eyes were practically superglued to my Kindle, completely & utterly absorbed.

It’s not rushed, but it’s not slow either. The story flows so seamlessly from one scene to the next that it never once feels draggy. That’s because you’re not just reading but you’re walking side by side with the characters, watching everything unfold piece by piece. It’s captivating in the truest sense.

The title itself is so fitting with Emma’s struggle with the emotions she can’t control, feelings she doesn’t understand. Her innocence, her softness, her docility, her submissive tendencies being pushed against something dark… it’s a beautiful unraveling.

And then the dynamic. The connection between the characters is magnetic, like a force of gravity you can’t pull away from. Every interaction feels charged, dangerous, irresistible. It pulls you in & doesn’t let go.

If I could ask for one thing from this book, it would be this: I NEED MYSELF A JESSE. Damn that man. You’ll understand when you read it.

Absolutely incredible.

Warning: This book contain mature & sensitive content. Please go through the trigger warnings. Read with discretion.

3.5/4⭐

I did thoroughly enjoy this however it was a bit too slow paced for me in parts and a lot seems to happen towards the last 20-25% of the book.

This was a story about our FMC Emma, who is in a marriage and is trained to be this perfect stay at home wife. She is then one day kidnapped with her best friend Bo (who is also her husbands cousin). Noah and Jesse are their captors after having a personal vendetta against Emma’s husband Eric who is involved in human trafficking. The story and plot is good, just a little too slow paced for me and i wanted more, however now I know we are getting a book 2, the pacing kind of makes sense.

Sometimes I did forget this was a dark romance in parts whether or not that is a me problem I’m not sure 😂😂
I think I struggled to see the connection between the FMC & MMC in parts then in other parts I could feel it? Bit of a mixed bag with that one.

However, I did enjoy the story and the plot. The ending is a cliffhanger. So I am excited to get to read book 2 once released after thinking this was just a standalone book!!

- enemies to lovers
- MM X MF
- revenge
- stockholm syndrome

Overall: 5/5
Spice: 5/5 🥵

This book was amazing. I really didn’t know what to expect truly, and man was I very pleasantly surprised. I usually don’t vibe with FMC that are super docile and not coming off as “strong willed” per say but the way Emma was written was so well done and I actually love her and throughout the book she comes more into herself and I think it’s a beautiful character arc for her. Which leads into Noah’s character development too; there was a scene at the very beginning that I wasn’t sure if I could personally get over but he was redeemed ten times over.

Bo and Jesse are absolutely a vibe and I LOVE them so much, reading the dynamic between them, Emma, and Noah is something I haven’t read before but let’s just say it was VERY well done. 🥵

Also, the CLIFFHANGER, I was NOT prepared 😭 I need the second book ASAP.

As always, L Taylor’s writing was amazing. Thank you for letting me be a part of this ARC.

3.5 Spice
Genre: Dark Romance
Tropes: Revenge Plot, Captivity, Obsession, Kidnapping, Poly Relationship, Stockholm Syndrome (sort of)
Main Characters: Emma Seaborn, Noah Finch, Bo, Jesse

This was a really good start to spooky season! Emma believes she has the best life married to her husband, working at one of his banks and living the perfect good-wife life. His cousin, Bo, is her best friend and she's excited for what's to come. She has no idea that 'what's to come' is being kidnapped along with Bo by his new lover and the dashing stranger she'd just met. Noah and Bo take them to their secluded house where Noah begins to break Emma down in order to tell her all the secrets her life has been hiding right under her nose.

Super interesting plot and very fun characters (Jesse is my new favorite, I swear, lol). The spice is absolutely spicing and the story builds very well. I was worried the pacing would be off with everything the author was trying to accomplish, but it really wasn't.

NOTE - While this doesn't end on a strong cliff hanger, this is not the end of the story. It appears there will be a second book, so go into this knowing you will have some unanswered questions.

I've had the pleasure of getting an early review copy of Stockholm and my god, it did not disappoint!

From chapter 1 it has you guessing, making those little wheels in your mind turn at high speed.
The suspense, the twists and turns, the tension, the giggling and kicking your feet, the banter, the spice, it's all there...in multitude. But let's not forget that it's still a dark romance so you also get the lies, the deceit, the captor/captive dynamic, the heartbreak, the morally grey actions of the MMCs, and the Stockholm syndrome kicking in.

This book has it all!

“I don’t want to destroy you, baby. I want to own you, all of you. Even your dignity, Emma. That belongs to me too.”

The last few chapters had me on the edge of my seat but that ending....Miss Taylor, we need to have a word!!

Also....Jesse and Bo need their own book because the dynamics between these two....🫠....just saying

This was a captor/captive romance, where lots happens towards the last 20-25% of this book. There is also a slight cliff hanger that sets you up for the next book to come. There is some mystery to this with light dark themes. I enjoyed the captive side of this and the growth coming from the FMC through the book. However, I do wish this was a bit darker and more faster paced considering it is a captive/captor romance as I at times didn’t feel like it was a dark romance. I think this might be a good one for those wanting to dabble into dark romance for sure. Also, always check triggers no matter how I take it because it still might not be for you.

I enjoyed the characters in this one and I love the writing style. The opening scenes did a great job showing the kind of life the fmc lives and her struggles with anxiety.

I do wish parts of this weren’t as slow and that the fmc would have held off a little longer before giving into the mmc but I can see the dilemma because he’s got a mouth on him🤭 I would of enjoyed more intel with what the husband was up to.

Spice was exciting!

I think the story line could have been a little condensed or just had one large dark romance read instead of breaking it up into two books. Curious to see what happens next!

REVIEW: Book 1 in the Angel of Mercy series: Noah “the keeper” and Emma “the kept”. This is a stalker, revenge plot, power imbalance, captive x captor, FM and MM, forced proximity, morally grey hero MMC, dark and OTT possessive MMC, innocent FMC, enemies to lovers, hidden identity, Stockholm syndrome, dark romance.
This book. THIS. BOOK. I loved it. I couldn’t put it down. It had me second guessing throughout on who to believe. Loving Bo and Jesse as much as I loved Noah and Emma.
I’m going to be chomping at the bit for book 2 to come out. Once again, another amazing book by L. Taylor. 1000% recommend every book she’s written

Wow what a fun read!
Emma is perfect housewife with the perfect husband, the cute cat and perfect home.
That is until she’s kidnapped with her best friend and her perfect life crumbles.

I really had a great time with this. I read things I never read before and it kept me guessing.

My only wish is I wish it was more stockholmy. I’m fucked up I know overall a great dark romance book I can’t wait for book 2!

My first L. Taylor book and I am hooked. The characters were so well done. The chemistry between Emma, Bo, Noah and Jesse was hot! Emma is a sweet housewife that gets taken by Noah and Jesse and unfortunately her best friend Bo gets taken as well. Soon lines are blurred as the captives and captors start to get closer.

So this one is a NO for me. I got to 42% and gave up. It was extremely slow, ridiculous, excruciatingly dull and well just not for me. I very rarely DNF a book. It's a me thing that I have to finish what I started, but I just couldn't with this one. Here are my reasons for giving up. They will spoil the story, so if you are going to read this book, don't read my spoiler.

I just couldn't take it any longer.

Stockholm lived up to its name!! Thank you, L. Taylor for this yummy ARC read. It was definitely unexpected and the plot kept the pages turning.

The characters… Emma, Noah, Bo, and Jessie… I love that Emma grows throughout the book….

I loved the absolute betrayal, the tension, deception, the ugly of trafficking, and then the gosh darn cliffhanger!!!

This is has me asking what is next. Waiting for book 2!

Rounded up to 4 ⭐️ really hoping that book 2 will be darker!!!

I do not know where to start. This book blew me away. I was swept in from the start and the characters and plot were next level!

I was lucky enough to beta read this book for the author and I cannot say how blown away I was with everything. It’s dark and twisted, but the yearning and angst is there. No words. Read it! Check your triggers but read it! I will be again when I get my hands on the physical copy!
