Back in the game after the worst loss of his life, can this disillusioned defenseman rediscover love for the game… and a beautiful photojournalist?I swore I’d never play hockey again. After my mom died in a car accident and I quit to raise my sixteen-year-old sister, I’ve had no desire to chase my NHL dreams.
But now, the kid is away at an expensive college and a buddy took over coaching for the scandalized Florida Sun Kings. He’s begging me to help him out. As team captain.
No sooner than I’m back in the locker room, a gorgeous but nosy reporter mistakes me for a construction worker. I don’t bother to correct her.I’ve been burned by journalists before.
And when she finds out who I really am, her indignation reminds me why she’s just the latest newshound I should keep on the other side of the blue line.
But she’s different. She wants a human-interest column, not a sports beat. There’s a kindness to her I’ve never felt before. And she inspires my little sis.
Can I trust her with my deepest secrets? With my heart?
Or am I setting myself up for another devastating betrayal?

Dineen Miller is an award-winning and Amazon bestselling author who writes closed-door romantic comedies filled with swoony moments, snappy banter, and just enough awkward flirting to feel real. When she’s not writing happily ever afters, she’s hoarding yarn like a dragon, crocheting her way through a Netflix binge, or laughing at her husband’s punniest jokes (even when she pretends to roll her eyes). "I used to think love was the most powerful force on earth. Until it let me down."
This opening line from Sophie had me nodding, agreeing with her words, and growing excited to see how the author would change our minds about love. In The Defensive Zone With My Enemy is a sweet, closed-door hockey romance that had me, nose to the glass, interested in where Sophie and Luke's romance would take me. I immediately connected with Sophie's character and loved watching her journalism career journey. I was so happy to watch her grow and learn from the feature project she never wanted to lean into, and letting her creative juices flow with her photos and profiles on the players was exciting. Luke was the quintessential grumpy hockey player who was there to play, not make friends, and he could always be counted on to offer a grunt as a response instead of actual words. He cared deeply for the sport but knew stepping back to help care for his sister was important when his mother died in a car accident. Luckily, a hockey opportunity arose that would benefit them all around, and he was back to playing.
"Don't fight it, Jammer. Could wind up being the best thing that ever happened to you."
Luke and Sophie's relationship was the furthest thing from love at first sight, as Luke despised press members due to an event in his past. Despite her attraction, Sophie tries to brush off his gruff demeanor and do her best job, but she can't seem to do that without getting under the snarky and curmudgeonly hockey player's skin. I wasn't prepared to laugh as much as I did at the antics of the other players on the team. We were both completely invested in Luke and Sophie's love. Hilarity ensued with their tricks, text convos, and attempts to get the two together. I absolutely loved the slow burn, easing into cracks in each other's armor, sizzling romance that Dineen gave us with these two. It wasn't an easy journey, as they both made mistakes that hurt the other, but watching them grow and learn from their mistakes and realizing what was important was *chef's kiss*. Dineen gave us a full-length adventure that poured on the hockey terminology, a supporting cast of characters, an accessible and well-written story, and a romance that will stay with me for a long time.
Read this book if you're looking for a sweet, closed-door romance complete with a grumpy hockey player and his opposite, a sunshine journalist, and a supporting cast that will make you giggle and shake your head. Thank you, Dineen, for providing me with this absolutely wonderful book to read and review.
I devoured a good 85% of this book in a whole day. I enjoyed the distribution of romance and hockey throughout the book as sometimes I feel the romance can overshadow the hockey aspect. Luke and Sophie were both pulling at my heart throughout the book where in some cases I was punching at the air because they were just too cute with their chemistry and the banter.
From the get go Luke was already a likeable male lead for me, while obviously having some of his flaws my biggest thing was how he kicked into gear to look after his sister after the loss of their mother. I feel the same as well towards Sophie, it felt easy for me to like her as a character and seeing how passionate she is about what she does was a favourite aspect of mine. The text chats between Luke and some of the guys on the team had me giggling, I loved seeing how Luke went from doubtful as being captain to creating a bond with these guys.
I'm excited to see what more there is to come from here in the series because I thoroughly enjoyed this book 😊

Grumpy/sunshine and enemies–to-lovers are two of my favorite tropes, and I loved this romcom where they are done so well together! I can’t wait to get to know the rest of the Florida Sun Kings as this romcom series progresses, as they were a riot to learn about through their group text with the main male character and the shannanigans of hockey players in general. You might ask, “Are you sure?” And I’d answer, “Surer than sure.”
I received an Advanced Reader Copy of this book but was not required to leave a review. This opinion is my own.
In The Defensive Zone With My Enemy by Dineen Miller is a sweet and fun Hockey RomCom. Loved Luke and Sophie, very well liked characters. The banter with the characters was great. This is my second book by this author and both have been 5🌟 reads for me. I received an ARC and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Tropes: ❤️Enemies to lovers ❤️He falls first ❤️Grumpy/Sunshine ❤️Second chances ❤️Found Family
Honestly I just LOVE hockey romances! This book was amazing and I love how Dineen writes her stories 🥰 If you love hockey romances, you will enjoy this book for sure! This book is now available ❤️🥰
Luke gets his second chance at a hockey career after leaving the NHL and tends to stay to himself for the most part, he can also be a huge grump! Sophie is a small town journalist who has dreams of getting her own column. She has a background in sports writing and actually has a connection to the Florida Sun Kings owner and she ends up getting picked to do a series!
Luke and Sophie are both extremely career forced/motivated people and while they are working they end up meeting. Luke's not biggest fan of anyone who works in the media so needless the say even who he finds Sophie attractive their first encounter wasn't the best but the connect these two end up having is complete🔥🔥!
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily🥰
There is so much to unpack in this series debut novel that follows the return to ice of Luke "Jammer" Jameson. He is the grump we love to love, and he is written so very well. We don't always like all his various shades, but he has a lot to unpack with the death of his mother and the betrayal of his father. Grumpy can so often become mean or spiteful, but Dineen weaves a careful magic where we know it's really pain, so we, the readers, forgive many wrongs that Luke commits throughout the story. Not to mention his sculpted lips are a matter of much speculation. 💋
"The man seems to make helping people his mission in life—something I’m finding as attractive as those sculpted lips, which are a mere breath away from mine, by the way."
Sophie is the sunshine to Luke's grumpiness, and these two spend a lot of time fighting their attraction. I adored when that is the cause of the prickliness, don't you? Sophie has big plans, and it does NOT involve covering stinky hockey locker room stories. When she meets Luke, he definitely does not help her change her mind at first. An injury helps them to change the tone of their relationship (and hello Hannah from "Tamed to be Messy" making a PT appearance!), but all is not smooth sailing.
Miscommunication can be so controversial, and I will be the first in line to say it isn't my favorite way to move a story along if the characters aren't mature enough to talk to one another. But when it is done well because the author has beautifully and tenderly created relatable, flawed individuals, then it works. Dineen demonstrates this perfectly, and I can't imagine it differently. I'm a fan of emotional romcoms, and I like to feel ALL the feelings.
This was one of the most satisfying endings I've read in a while. It makes it better that we will get to see these two again when "In the Offensive Zone with My Fake Bride" arrives in January!
I received a complimentary copy of the author's story to read and review. All thoughts contained here are my own.
In the Defensive Zone with My Enemy is the first book in Dineen Miller’s Romancing the Sun Kings hockey romantic comedy series. It contains no sex or profanity. Although it’s written in dual first person POV, it feels like watching a Hallmark movie. Luke swore he’d never play hockey again due to guilt from his beloved mom’s death in a car accident. He quit to raise his sixteen-year-old sister, Kinsley, and gave up his NHL dreams. But now Kinsley is away at an expensive college and needs extra money for books and food. When Luke’s former teammate, Gabe, offers him the Team Captain position for the team that he’s now coaching, Luke accepts. Sophie is a reporter for the Sarabella Herald Tribune who aspires to be a groundbreaking journalist. She’s disappointed when her proposal for a series showcasing Sarabella’s hidden treasures is put on hold and she’s assigned to cover a local hockey team instead. Sophie hates sports and athletes and plans to remain single after having her heart broken three times. When Sophie visits the Sun Kings’ locker room and mistakes Luke for a construction worker, he doesn’t correct her. Naturally she’s angry when she discovers his identity. He’s been burned by journalists before but is moved by her eagerness to write human-interest stories. Naturally Sophie and Kinsley become great friends, and Luke and Sophie fight their growing attraction to each other. In the Defensive Zone with My Enemy is a sweet hockey romance that will be enjoyed by fans of the Hallmark Channel. Luke and Sophie are likeable characters who have tragic family histories and bad luck in the romance department. It’s strange to have a hockey team in Florida, and a young woman who works for a newspaper since they they are a dying industry. However the story is well-written and can be enjoyed by all readers since it contains no sex or profanity.

When journalist Sophie gets an assignment (against her will, mind you) to follow a hockey team for the season and meets Luke, there immediately is an attraction, but also a case of mistaken identity.
This first book in the Romancing the Sun Kings series by Dineen Muller, In the Defensive Zone with My Enemy, is a really lovely and relaxing hockey romance story. From the first I just loved Sophie: she is determined to write columns about her town, but she will only get to do that is she first writes about a hockey team and the players. Against her will she agrees and I loved how she does that with much enthusiasm. She has a way to get the players relaxed, but not Luke. He had to take care of his younger sister and wants nothing to do with publicity. He is a wonderful character, does his best for his sister, even going so far as to start hockey again after some time off. And the way he cares for Kinsley is just so adorable. The text chats in the hockey team group are sometimes hilarious and as the guys find out Luke likes Sophie, they are trying the be matchmakers. Sophie and Luke have a wonderful chemistry, and their growing relationship was lovely to read about. And I just loved Kinsley.
The writing style in this book is flowing and I always love a dual POV. This way you get to know the characters more. Dineen Miller writes at the end of the book that this is her first try at hockey romance, and I think she has done a great job. Her characters are lovely and you root for the main characters all the way.
In the Defensive Zone with My Enemy is a cute and sweet clean hockey romance story, with a grumpy sunshine trope and with a flowing writing style, likeable characters, a really cute romance, a story I enjoyed reading a lot. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series.
This book was honestly so cute! It is a complete hands down - clean, no spice book. A couple kisses but nothing more. There were maybe 3 cusses but nothing absolutely major. And I am here for the clean hockey romances!
Now as for the book itselfffff We’ve got Luke, the ex hockey player who had a rough childhood and had to grow up too fast. Then there’s Sophie, then sunshine, go-happy, doomed at romance, pink loving journalist. Even though these two start off as enemies, I throughly enjoyed watching them turn into a couple. The banter that the two had- had me loling
This was also a grumpy x sunshine- so we get to see Luke go from his grumpy self to developing feelings not only for Sophie but also for his team. He first comes off as all walls up, nobody gets in- except Kinsley, his little sister. Kinsley brings out the big brother/ caring / protective side we all wanted to see. There were moments where we saw this softer side of Luke and it was just perfection
Outside of the budding relationship, I also got a good laugh from watching the team dynamic grow. The way the guys became a family & the amount of banter / joking / texts that went on- definitely a fav part of this book
If you’re like me, you aren’t a huge fan of 3rd act breakups- so be warned there is one (kinda 2) in here. But the fact that these two can be adults about it and can ACTUALLY talk about it 10/10
Overall I throughly enjoyed reading this book!
The one thing that kinda bothered me, and it’s honestly nothing but how some of the texts were in text bubbles but then some weren’t, it kinda threw me off. But like I said it was nothing major. This book was really good to be a quick clean hockey romance for this cold day that ended with a HEA
I did receive a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion- nothing affected my opinion or review of the book
“I skate over and smile at them. Kins nudges Sophie, then turns around. At first, Sophie hesitates, her cheeks a deep shade of pink. Kins points her thumbs over her shoulders while Sophie pulls her ponytail over her shoulder.
My name blazes across both shirts.
Sophie does a slow turn, giving me a hesitant smile. Our eyes lock, and something thrums between us.
She’s wearing my name…” 😍 Gah, there is something that just gets me with the line “She’s wearing my name!” In the Defensive Zone with My Enemy by Dineen Miller is the first book of a new hockey romance series featuring players on the newly renovated Sun Kings team, and I love it!!
This book has so many great things involved – strong lead characters with Sophie and Luke, and amazing side characters that really add fun and depth to the story! Sophie and Luke both gave me all of the emotions with that they have dealt with in the past, to how they are conquering fears now. I love the forgiving nature that is portrayed too! I love the pacing – it moved along well – and I learned some new hockey terms (and uh, places where sizzling kisses can occur ) that made this hockey rom com stand out. The author’s writing style used excellent analogies – I could really picture myself in the scenes! And quite honestly, the second half of the book where the slow burn starts to pick up is *magic*
Things to enjoy: Grumpy MMC (this was done soooo well!) Mistaken Identity The bus ride Team camaraderie “So we’re friends now?” The locker room Kinsley’s writing assignment Protective brother First kisses (and all of the kisses!) The color pink “Surer than sure”
I thoroughly enjoyed this book! Grab your copy today!
CW: death of parent (past), few mild Bible swears, parent drug abuse (past)
After leaving a career in the AHL, Luke gets a second chance at a hockey career in the ECHL, which he ends up taking despite reservations. I've never read about this kind of second chance at a pro hockey career in a sports romance. Also unlike other sports romance, going pro isn't the driving force behind the character. There's a lot of depth and backstory to Luke's character, which gets revealed as the story progresses.
Sophie is a small town journalist (not reporter, an important distinction) who has dreams of getting her own column, but not for recognition. She has a background in sports writing and a history with the Florida Sun Kings owner, so she gets picked to do a series.
It's interesting that neither of the main characters want to be doing what they're doing, but wouldn't have met if not for these opportunities. Since this is a romance, they're attracted to each other and there are issues along the way. And as readers demand, they do get a HEA.
My biggest critique of the book is that Luke's too quick to push Sophie away without first giving her the chance to talk. Yes, he's been burned in the past, but if his feelings run deep enough it should be more of a struggle or he should be looking for reasons to not let her go.
As a side note, there's a character who comes back into Luke's world toward the end in a clunky manner that just doesn't ring true based on how he treats Sophie, but it doesn't impact much of the main story.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
When aspiring journalist Sophie gets a job as the new in-house reporter for the Sun Kings hockey team, she is less than thrilled. She can’t think of anything worse than having to spend time with stinky, sweaty, offensive men. But she grudgingly accepts it, as her editor assures her it’s going to pave the way to the job she wants: writing about romance in their small seaside town.
Luke isn’t exactly happy going back to hockey, but the bills need paid and his younger sister’s college is expensive. He is sure the team will not accept him, an outsider, as their captain. Plus, the last thing he wants is his name and face out in the media again, after they dragged his family’s name through the mud after his mum’s death.
So when reporter (pardon, journalist) Sophie’s article about him goes national, he is very angry. Never mind he has feelings for her, or she for him. She promised she would keep his face out of the publication, yet there he is, in a national hockey magazine.
And when his dad is released from prison and shows up back in their lives, he blames Sophie.
Did she do it to better herself and get her shot at fame? Or is it all a big misunderstanding and will love prevail?
I really liked the book, despite the arc being quite predictable. I am already looking forward to the planned sequel.
In the Defensive Zone with My Enemy by Dineen Miller Romancing the Sun Kings Book One Luke “Jammer” Jameson had left hockey after the death of his mother, using the excuse to take care of his younger sister. When his friend Gabe, now a coach for the Florida Sun Kings, asks him to play on the Sarabella team, he reluctantly says yes. The money will help pay for his sister’s college. He doesn’t like that a reporter is hanging around the team. Sophie Adams is a journalist who dreams of writing a romance column for their Sarabella paper. She wants to write about all the romantic places for dates and even proposals. But first, after some poor press last year, she had to work on an assignment to follow the hockey team to get their name positive again. Whatever it takes to reach her dream. Luke and Sophie fight both attraction and mistrust of each other. Well, there is mistrust on Luke’s side. He saw what a reporter could do to a family with their words and would watch everything he said around her. Loved this story! Looking forward to more in this new series. https://justjudysjumbles.blogspot.com...
In the Defensive Zone with my Enemy is the breathtaking hockey romance first book in the Romancing the Sun Kings Hockey Romcom series with a grumpy MC and a very ambitious FC, found family and enemies to lovers trope can be found!🏒
Review. It's a very cute and sweet book to read, there's always a twist that make you go through the goal (pun intended) till the end of the book and i was even sad i reached it. I loved the characters of Luke and Sophie, very well written, cute and shaped personalities and some character growth without being too much to keep the book light (even when it's not!).
Not as slow burn as i like it and the Miscommunication trope isn't my favorite but as Dineen wrote it, it was totally enjoyable and straight to my heart. And it was appreciated that it's fast-paced, never boring, never too much, but never less. Sweet and sizzling and sparkling. I liked it a lot!
I LOVED that it's a series cause i am happy to read the next one coming in 2025!⭐️
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. Thoughts are completely mine.
Another hockey romcom with emphasis on the romance and just the right amount of hockey. Great characters who were concerned about other people and went out of their way to support those others- some relatives, some friends or co-workers. A wonderful balance between work, family, and friends made this one of the best of the many hockey romcoms I've read.
I admired the main characters-Luke for giving up his dreams to support his family needs, and totally committed to his sister's well being! And Sophie for doing what she was asked 110%, and instead of sulking, she thrived. I admired them both for looking at the whole picture and not being afraid to say they were wrong. Saying "I'm sorry" makes a world of difference in these characters!
The story never lagged, and I ended up staying up late because I couldn't wait to get to the ending. Well worth the late hour, especially when I discovered a bonus follow-up was available. Score! Terrific book.
Remember: "You can't move forward if you're always looking back."
This starts off with pizazz and that’s just the first page front cover. This is Hockey , you don’t forget or tire of it , it retires you. Only Luke Jammer Jameson has been given a chance after his time out from the game , taking care of his sister after the death of their mum. Now she’s away at school so he’d be a fool not to give it a try when his mate Gabe gives him a call as he’s the new coach for Florida team Florida Sun Kings minor league and offers Jammer a job as Captain. He’s a D man ( Defense) and he’s hoping he still has something to bring to the table. When he’s mistaken for someone else he plays along but finds out later he’d like to date her. She’s little miss sunshine and he’s mr grumpy but they do eventually get their rumpy pumpy. But after jokes and tricks and signals are mixed . It takes a lot to get things fixed and back on steady ground . He needs to make sure he isn’t checked from behind and they do have a good time and plenty of puck luck and in the safety zone would be N-ice…Great writing . Awesome characters and side characters too . Storytelling is splendid.
Luke Jameson has had a rough time of things. Hockey was his life until he lost his mom in a car accident. He had to drop out of hockey to care for his younger teenage sister Kinsley. With her now in college, he has time to help out a friend by agreeing to become the Captain of the Florida Sun Kings team. When a “journalist” with the Sarabella Herald Tribune, Sophie Adams, mistakes him for one of the workers, he doesn’t tell her who he really is. He doesn’t need the hassle. But her goals are also not what he assumed. Will the two of them become attracted to each other? Can he find the HEA that will give him back the happiness he had to postpone when he graciously did the right thing for others? And will Sophie let go of her failed relationships and accept the right man to fall in love with? With Luke, she knows she can be herself, which never seemed to work with her previous boyfriends. But it seems it’s never too late when you find the right one waiting for you.
it took a while for this story to hook me . The first half felt slow. I couldn’t quite connect with the characters or the pacing. once I hit the 45–50% mark, everything clicked and from that point on, I could not put the book down! Luke and Sophie had such adorable chemistry once they finally let their walls down. Their connection felt genuine, even if it started as an instant attraction. he way they communicated (when they actually did) felt real and heartfelt. But I was frustrated with Luke pushing Sophie away and shutting down. Luke’s dedication to taking care of his sister completely melted my heart. It mirrored Sophie’s drive to succeed as a journalist beautifully. The first kiss scene was adorable, and even though this was a clean romance, the sweet, tender moments they shared were perfect for the tone of the story Some of my favorite moments include the kiss at the game (IYKYK!), the post-game comfort scene where Luke finally lets Sophie in, and every interaction between Luke and his sister. The dates and the flirty moments where Sophie helped Luke’s softer side come through were some of the best parts of the story. Overall, the book had a slow start for me but delivered a charming second half with lovable characters, a strong sense of loyalty, and a feel-good love
Sophie isn’t excited to be assigned to write articles and profiles for the local ECHL Sun Kings for her hometown newspaper. Her first several meetings with Luke are unpleasant due to his negative history with the press after him mom died.
The storyline has several interesting plot arcs besides the developing relationship between Sophie and Luke. I enjoyed Luke’s progress stepping into the Team Captain role for the Sun Kings and his slow bonding with his teammates. Luke is a caring and protective big brother to his sister Kingsley.
Luke deals with a lot of changes on top of still dealing with grief from his mother’s death and his misplaced feeling of responsibility for her death.
Definitely a lot to enjoy with this book.

Great start to this new hockey series. Sophie is a journalist and is chasing her dream to have her own column. When she is given an assignment to follow and interview the Sun Kings Sarabella's local hockey team for the season. She is not happy aout it,but ends up doing it. Luke has just been asked to be the captain of the team by an old friend who is the new coach. After what happened in the past Luke hates and does not trust reporters. Luke and Sophie do not hit it off straightaway, but the chemistry between them is sizzling. As they spend time together and share their painful past with each other, their feelings change. There were tears, laughter, team banter, friendships, sizzling chemistry, romance and a happily ever after. Cannot wait for Dineen's next book.

Great, Clean,Read with Strong Characters in Small Florida Town with Minor League Hockey Team
This was my first book from this new-to-me author and I really enjoyed it. The characters were well developed and likable, the dialog was witty and fun and the plot points kept the pages turning. Sophie and Luke had great chemistry and sparks although the book was "clean" and it was fun to see the big, gruff hockey player turn into an overprotective teddy bear when his sister or Sophie were concerned. The other players on the Sun Kings also added to the depth of the story and I look forward to reading their stories as well - Enjoy!
I was sent an ARC by the author and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review.
4⭐️ Thank you to BookSirens for a copy of In The Defensive Zone With My Enemy.
Luke decides to return to Hockey to help support his sister financially while she is in college. Sophie is tasked with writing pieces about members of the team. The first meeting between them does not go well but over time they find they enjoy being around one another. But can they trust one another?
I really enjoyed this book. It was very easy to connect with the characters and feel what they were going through. This book tackles things like loss of a parent, addiction, and grief but it does it in a very respectful way. I cannot wait to continue to read this series.

Leaving the AHL was the only thing Luke could do to take care of his younger sister. Now she's off to college and he's offered a chance back, but can he go back even though he'd always wanted to be part of the NHL. But college isn't cheaper and he'd do anything for his sister. Sophie has dreams of her own Column, but she just a small town journalist can she really achieve her dream. When she get choosen to write a series on the Sun Kings hockey team, due to her knowledge as a sports writer. Can both these two achieve their dreams or are they really their dreams now. This is a story that shows the growth and understanding that comes with age, if you really look deep down. Although sometimes fate puts you in the right place at the right time even if you don't realise it.
I will admit the first 25% of the book made me reconsider continue reading it BUT once we get past Luke's dislike for the journalists he becomes a sweetheart that you're rooting for. You can tell how much family means to him when it comes to his sister; everything he does for her is swoon worthy I MEAN THE DAMN ROSES FROM HIS MOM'S GARDEN brb crying. The way he wants to protect those who mean the most to him and will go out of his way made me love him even more. You can tell Luke is quick to judge because he's been burnt in the past.
Don't want to spoil anything but I am really glad I continued reading because this story got better and better as the chapters went on.

Amazing job! Loved this sweet hockey romcom, Book 1 of Romancing the Sun Kings series. Luke returns to ice after longer break. Sophie is the journalist of Sarabella Herald Tribune, assigned to the team. Loved everything about the book - slow sparking, their inner battles, #neverbeenkissinglikethat. Loved the characters, mains and others - friends, teammates and families. Loved interactions between Sophie and Luke - both funny and deep. The way how they learned to trust each other after doubts and not believing. And Sophie's pushing Luke to leave the past in past. They both turned each other's world upside down. Love Sun Kings and can't wait for next books in the series.

This was a really cute book. It was slightly frustrating with the miscommunication between characters, but it also made it more believable because that’s what happens in real life.
This book was definitely more on the sweet side of romance, rather than spice. But I didn’t find myself craving it because the slow build was worth it.
I appreciated how the main characters supported each other in their careers rather than one having to give up everything like in some romance books. If you like sweet, found family romances this one is for you!
Tropes: enemies to lovers, grumpy/sunshine, he fell first

Dineen has made me a hockey fan! Luke was such a great character. I loved seeing this reactions and growth during the book. It was such a great big brother. Sophie was fun as well. And I adored her relationship with Mia. (Does Mia have her own story? I have been trying to find it since finishing Sophie’s story. Dineen really made this story extra with several scenes. I don’t want to spoil anything but I thoroughly enjoyed how she surprised me a few times. I enjoyed the banter between all the characters. And I really hope Kenzie gets her own story. I can see her falling for one of her brother’s hockey pals! I have already downloaded Payton’s story to start next.
“Sophie + romance = disaster.” Or maybe it equals a great story! This book is the first in a new series and I really enjoyed it. I liked the team aspects of the story and it was a good set-up for future stories that I look forward to reading. The characters were engaging and had an excellent enemies to lovers romance. And also …hockey! The characters had to work through a lot to reach the happy outcome. “You can’t live life forward when you’re constantly looking back.” There are elements in this story that involved death, grief, parental abandonment, criminal activity, and prison. This is a closed door romance with occasional mild harsh language.

This book was AMAZING!!! Luke and Sophie were the best MC I've read in a while. They have both been hurt in the past but somehow, without realizing it, help each other find hope in the future! There were times I wanted to throw my Kindle across the room out of frustration and/or anger at one or both of those two! I laughed, cried, and swooned with them. This book took me on a journey, wrung me out from the inside and left me with a different outlook when I emerged on the other side. That's what a great book should do! And don't forget there's hockey in there too (that means good lookin hockey players, atleast in my mind 😄). Do yourself a favor and read this book!
