Lasting
Winner of the Ariadne Prize for Best Novel (a national contest which seeks out quality first novels), Lasting is the story of Lili, who is not quite eighteen when she meets Antonio, a charismatic Italian physician conducting a research project in New York. The two of them fall into a passionate love affair. They move to Rome where they are married and Antonio's demons arise. Lili is not able to save his life from destruction. When Lili returns to the United States, she falls in love with another man, thinking that her life is happily settled, but has to learn, once more, that love is not a synonym for forever. She must make an existence for herself which includes the losses as well as the love that life inevitably presents.
