Spies, vengeance, and one seriously well-dressed man

"If Bourne dressed like Bond and acted like Grey, you'd have Jax De Luca."
An addictive new romantic suspense series from the desk of USA Today bestselling author Deanna Roy/JJ Knight

Mia trembles as she reads the letter that arrives from Ridley Prison.

Seduction. Bondage ropes. Descriptions of things Mia has never experienced or known.

The man’s words are desperately passionate. He longs for a woman who must have given him a fake address. Mia’s address.

She plans to send the letter back. He’s a convicted felon.

But his words gnaw at her. She’s never done anything dangerous. And no man has ever talked to her like this.

So Mia writes him, pretending to be the woman he desires.

It's her one dark thrill in her dull, solitary small-town life.

The man is in prison for another fifteen years.

It's harmless. She is safe enough.

Until he escapes.

4 Everything is Not What You Think Stars
* * * * Spoiler Free
What would you do if your life was dull, predictable...alone with no prospects of it changing anytime soon...the only happiness or thrills were the memories of your deceased parents taking you boating; teaching you everything they new about knots and all things nautical....

Twenty year old Mia is feeling so alone and lonely; her Aunt Bea recently passed and she is directionless. She moved to her old homestead; took care of her Aunt through her final days. While there a letter addressed to K. Klaus was delivered and opened by mistake...What she read was shocking and titillating at the same time...

Prose of bondage... phrases of seduction using descriptions of knots...reaching out....caressing her...touching her...confusing her...

For she is an innocent...never experiencing, only reading about these things....The man, Jax DeLuca, locked away for 15 years was reaching out to this K. Kraus... and what would be the harm in responding...she knew knots...she could try to talk his language...and so it started harmlessly enough...

But these letters... and the passion they caused...they were addictive. She couldn't stop the obsessive reading of them...and deep in her heart she felt her brave, strong mother...would be there saying read Mia, write him...

But these letters were not what they seemed to be... they were code... sent to an operative to help Jax escape... for he is part of the Vigilantes...another layer of the world which civilians have no knowledge...He was used by a woman who drew him in... playing him with her pretend innocence...he let his guard down; manipulated into killing another Vigilante...so he was sent to prison.

He has been trying to arrange his escape in order to clear his name by sending these coded letters... written like erotic love to his girlfriend in order to get them through security. Upon receiving Mia's letters signed as Klaus... he knows something is wrong...the code is not right... the knots make no sense...He continues to write... and finally arranges his escape.

Mia is at a loss...all she can do is write these letters and wait for the next...she falls asleep dreaming of Jax...only to have the dream she is in be true...with wrists bound; chest bound, leg bound...she wakes to the real Jax in her bedroom....He demands to know where Klaus is...she explains through her fear this is all a mistake due to her responding to the letters...He sees through her pretend innocence; this time he will not be tricked...She has been obsessing, wanting, dreaming about him...She decides to channel her mother and be brave...strong and see what happens next...

This reminded me of shows like Covert Affairs / Alias with the promise of bondage as the sexual hook. This first part of the series is giving us all the necessary groundwork to rope us in (ha!) and want to continue to see where all of this goes. We got a feel for Mia... she is not just another meek milk toast... she has inner strength and will grow throughout the series... Jax is sexy, manly and driven...There are advanced electronics, weapons and gadgets... all the things which added to the feel of the tale.

Be warned; there is a cliffy, however, the authors promise to deliver each installment quickly...The next "episode" will be out January 27th.

WOW!!! Yes, that is the first word that comes into my mind when I finished devouring The Vigilante’s Lover by Annie Winters and Tony West. I am hooked and can’t get enough of this book!! Bondage, tech gadgets, a secret group, and James Bond/Jason Bourne-type esque hero...do I need to say more!! Yes, this book had me addicted and I wanted to know more of Jax De Luca and Mia Morrow.

#VigilanteLover

The Vigilante’s Lover was fast pace and a suspense thriller that will have you turning the pages of your kindle so fast because you are dying to know what happens next. This book definitely started off with a BANG!! A prisoner who sends out secret coded letters to his friend detailing his plan of escape from prison. If anyone was to read these letters, they were in for a surprise since it details of accounts of bondage and sexual innuendos. But what Jax didn’t intend was that his letters to end up in the hands of a young naive woman, Mia Morrow. When Mia finds these letters she couldn’t help but respond back to them. These letter awakened a deep sexual arousal for her. She would imagined what it would be like if Jax did these things to her. Well Mia is in a rude awakening, literally when she awakes to find Jax De Luca in her bedroom and it so happened that he did tie her up in bondage.

To say Mia is stunned is an understatement when she finds herself tied up to her bedposts. Being that Jax was once betrayed by a female lover, he thinks Mia was one of those trained vigilantes to take him out. He sees Mia as a threat but what he doesn’t know that Mia just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. She was just an innocent civilian not the vigilante spy that Jax thinks she is. When Jax takes Mia to this secret headquarters to see if she’s telling the truth and to find out where his missing friend went, he soon learns that there is no records of Mia Morrow. She is a clean slate which raises flag of who she is and how did she end up living in one of the Vigilantes safe houses. Is Mia Morrow just an innocent civilian who got her identity mistaken? Or is there some secret waiting to be unraveled of Mia’s parents and aunt?

The Vigilante’s Lover was so good that I’m dying for the next installment and hopefully Annie Winters and Tony West won't keep us waiting long. Though this book ended in a cliffhanger, It was definitely worth it to see some action, suspense, and possibly romance brewing between Mia and Jax. I will just say that cliffhanger has me excited for the book 2!! So if you are looking for a Bourne/Bond hero with a side of Christian Grey, then I highly suggest you go read The Vigilante’s Lover and meet Jax De Luca.

I got this story for free today! *to-read*

Go go go readers!

[Edit:]

DNF. Weak heroine who blames herself for everything so far. Even says she DESERVES the guy assaulting her. I don't like people who blame themselves for everything. Especially if they aren't the ones to blame. I especially don't like people who take advantage of people like that in that way to that kind of person.

Another star for the idea. I loved the escaping the prison and the meticulous thought that went through the people's mind as they calculated and speculated. That was pretty cool.

2/5 sad stars....DNF at 33%

Meek twenty year old Mia Morrow is hidden away in her aunt's house. After taking care of her ailing aunt, now deceased, Mia is trying to figure out her next step in life. While this plays on her subconscious, Mia mistakenly becomes pen pals with an inmate at Ridley Prison. The only contact is through letters.

The rope sizzles as it slides along your skin, like a flame zipping up a fuse.
The stopper know snaps into place, and you inhale sharply, ensnared by the bowline encircling your naked thigh.

*These letters would get anyone's blood flowing and panties dripping.*

*Oh Jax, Jax, Jax. You sweet talker you. My imagination was on overdrive.*

These letters are a series of secret embedded codes, for information and security. Jax De Luca former member of a secret group called, The Vigilante's, has been imprisoned for a fifteen year sentence. He is secretly disguising information to his friends within these letters.

Unbeknownst to each other, Mia is fantasizing about a felon and returning his endearments with letters of her own. *Mia is playing out her fantasies within the pages of the letters she responds to and hell if the girl isn't seriously lacking some adventure* While Jax, finds it seemingly strange that his returned letters are oddly worded and does not carry any return information from his informant.

Battling her fantasies and being realistic, Mia is struggling to continue this farce just to have some excitement in her monotonous life. Saving each letter and re-reading every night, Mia dreams and fantasizes about a faceless man, with an exotic speech that gets her blood boiling.

Knowing she will never meet this man other than through his letters, she continues to play out each fantasy and write then to him. A series of well placed knots, restrained wrists and ankles, legs spread wide; Mia falls asleep with these thoughts on her mind.

Dreaming of this faceless man, Mia is suddenly jerked awake and is staring into the eyes of Jax De Luca.

*This book has some intriguing twists and plot turns that get my mind thinking. Reverting to all those bond movies. Sean Connery- 007! Yum!. I love the intricate and detailed addition of bondage and the way it was selectively used and incorporated into both protagonists lives. Well put together and has me intrigued for book 2*

Mia Morrow parents are dead and now after taking care of her only relative, her aunt who also died. When she found a letter from prison to K.Klaus. She's lonely and what worst can happen when the sender wouldn't even find out? She opened one then HOLY HELL! they're HOT! she became addicted.

Jax De Luca is planing his escape from prison. He is a Vigilante Club owner or something like that. He is going to escape and get revenge. He is sending coded letters to his friend Klaus to the safe house.

They "meet" and shit happens.

I enjoyed this book. It was short, mysterious, actiony, and kinda funny. The only thing that lacked us the heat between The characters, I wanted more steamy scenes. I don't know It lacked for me but everybody has different opinions. Other than that it was enjoyable.

I want to weep into the soft terrycloth, but I won’t. I’m not that Mia anymore. I’m going to get through this. I am strong.

Grrrr why did I do this to myself??!?!!? I only had to wait till the 27th for the second one to be out and then I could have read them both together, but the blurb was so goood and I couldn't stop thinking about it and now I'm done and I have to waaaaaitt :(:(:( 10 days till I can find out what happens. I really liked this one, it sucks you in right away. The only real complaint I have is that we kind of get thrown into this different world, with crazy cool gadgets and this group called The Vigiante's and I just felt like it could have all be flushed out a bit more, with things being explained with more detail. But I still highly recommend it! You are on the edge of your seat for pretty much the whole book and it's awesome. Can't wait to get my hands on the next one.

Whoa this was an intriguing, addictive and confusing ride and a half. We swallowed this book whole as we tried to figure out what the hell was going on but what we do know is that we loved it. And after that deliciously evil cliff hanger we are desperate for the next book in this series. At least we haven’t got long to wait.

Annie Winters and Tony West are new Authors for us but we fell in love with the writing style and the suspenseful thrilling storyline, along with fabulous characters and a uniqueness to it we haven’t read in a while. The action and drama was intense and fast paced and the simmering sexual attraction lush and enticing. Though we will say certain things confused us which we hope become clearer in the second book.

‘At least with adversaries, you know where you stand. Unlike lovers. A lover is what got me here.’

Jax De Luca is an enigma; we know he’s an escaping convict on a mission to clear his name of a crime he was wrongly imprisoned for and to connect with the mysterious Klaus who he’s been sending encrypted letter to. Jax works for the Vigilantes Organization which we are still trying to figure out the ins and outs of. Now these letters have been received by the sweet yet ballsy Mia Morrow. She’s a huge puzzle too. She accidentally opens one of these letter which are being delivered to her house and is so enticed by them she begins responding.

‘I am in hell. I am in the hell I deserve for lying to this man.’

This is the beginning of a highly sexually charged kidnapping on the run which had us barrelling through gagging to find out more! Bring on the next instalment! So much mystery and high tech intrigue with sexual tension thrown in. This story certainly wasn’t dull and predictable, unlike Mia Marrow’s life according to her…..

This book has a little fetish for rope and bondage :P

description

I can't say much about this book because it's a first instalment in a series of novels/novellas that are connected. But what I can say that it has a lot of action...and I don't mean sex :P keep your minds out of the gutter :D I mean secrete agency, car chasing, James Bond like toys and underground headquarters.

Ohhh...and did I mention the hot guy and the girl that's drooling after him? :P

description

If you like a good romance adventure book (like me) then you'll like this one...even if the whole

Be aware that this book end with a cliffhanger and there are a total of 4 books in this series and the last 2 are out at the end of February and the last one in March.

Enjoy!

What a thrilling start and I can some great potential for this series.

Jax De Luca is the Vigilante's East Coast Director until he got deluded by a woman that landed him in prison. The Vigilante is some sort of government secret assassin/spy thingy. The technology that was described here are way more advanced than what I seen in James Bond and MI6.

Mia Marrow is just a civilian who happened to be at the wrong place and replying to a coded letter that doesn't address to her. She ended up being kidnapped by Jax and brought into his world of danger and suspense.

I love the humor and action in this book. After his prior bad experience with a cunning woman, Jax is adamant that Mia is a highly skilled operative sent to bring him down. And God forbid he is gonna fall for the same trap again. This bring forth a lot of craziness and funny moment between Jax and Mia. Poor girl never catch a break.

I believe this series will emphasize on Jax's journey to clear his name and I can't wait to get more of the action.

I loved this! Read the whole thing at once, couldn't wait to see what would happen next.

I enjoyed the evolution/awakening of Mia's character. She was a bit dull to begin with and I was far more interested in Jax's POV, but by the end of the book her reactions had me grinning and liking her, and I'm picky-ish about my heroines, so yay!

Jax was cool. I kind of thought his plan was crazy, and I want to know more about his time as a director, and I was SO happy they put, like, an actual age appropriate man into this position instead of doing the "he's a 25 year old super prodigy, okay?" thing. Dude's 37! Though I'm not sure he read 37 to me, he felt younger, but it was a fun ride and I loved it, so no nitpicking here.

I enjoyed the whole Vigilante world. I'm so glad I waited until the series was complete to start it so I can find out the rest.

4.5 stars, rounding up to 5 for making me a happy reader. :)

I'm a big fan of Deanna Roy, so I jumped at the chance to listen to the audiobook version of The Vigilante's Lover, Vol. 1, and I wasn't disappointed!!!! :D

The story starts with plans for a jailbreak and sexy letter...so it definitely packs a punch right from the start, and it only gets more and more intense! As soon as I started listening, I didn't want to stop⎯the story reeled me in and kept me eagerly awaiting what was going to happen next!

I loved both Jax and Mia! Jax was a walking mystery, super duper sexy, and I loved learning about his past! Mia seemed like just an average girl, who somehow got mixed into the middle of a crazy scenario, but I think there's more to her than she knows herself...and I can't wait to find out more about her backstory!

Throughout the audiobook, I was riveted to the story! The Vigilantes' world is extremely intricate and secretive, so it was interesting trying to figure things out just like Mia was. They have crazy advanced technologies, secret headquarters, intricate databases, and a hierarchy that seems extremely complicated. I loved the mystery of it all, and it was definitely suspenseful trying to figure everything out...and to figure out who Mia could trust!

As far as the audiobook version goes, the story alternates between Mia's POV and Jax's POV, and it also alternates between a male and female narrator. I absolutely LOVED the male narrator, Gordon Anthony Palagi! His voice was AMAZING! It suited the story perfectly, and it was an absolute pleasure listening to him. I was actually a little disappointed when I checked Audible and didn't see any other titles narrated by him. I wasn't a big fan of the female narrator though. Her voice just didn't really work for me, but as I got into the story, I didn't mind it as much, and Gordon's/Jax's chapters more than made up for hers. :P

Overall, I absolutely loved the first part of The Vigilante's Lover...the only downside was waiting for the next volume, but thankfully it's out now!! I can't wait to get started on volume 2! ;) I'd recommend The Viligante's Lover, Vol. 1 to fans of suspenseful romances, especially if you like your leading men a little bit naughty and mysterious! And I'd definitely recommend the audiobook because I absolutely LOVED Jax's chapters! ;)

Well, this book was definitely not what I expected!  Not one bit of sex....(yet)....haha!  Not that I need sex in my books, but I was expecting some steaminess after reading the blurb for this one.  Letters between a prisoner (Jax) and unknown woman (Mia).....and then he escapes.....and finds her....and things are not as they seem that's for sure!!  The letters were coded and meant for someone else, and her responses make no sense to Jax.

This book surprised me.....I really loved it!  There is so much mystery and intrigue that it's hard to say exactly what it's about.  It appears to be somewhat futuristic and I say that only because of the technology and gadgets throughout the book.  Jax is a member of the Vigilantes (or was before going to prison), a group that is apparently as strong as or even stronger than the government, and he is looking to clear his name.  Mia, who is so innocent, went to live with and help her aunt who had suffered a stroke and then eventually passed way.  She wanted some excitement in her life by responding to the prisoner's letters that had been coming to her aunt's house.  They were hot! She figured, it was all in good fun and would never come back to haunt her.  Boy was she wrong!  Jax finds her..... JAX DOES NOT TRUST HER!  He thinks she is the enemy.  I loved the little banter between them.  They have no idea what or who they are to each other....and I think Mia really has no idea who she is or her family history.  I am so curious to see how this plays out.

Warning, there is a minor cliffhanger.....but just knowing the 2nd book comes out in a couple weeks has me excited! I thought this was a great start to the series!

This book was originally reviewed on The Book Hookup.

**I received a copy of this book for the tour, but that did not influence the review**

4.5 stars This book was not what I was expecting… it was even better and I loved all of it. The synopsis is dead on when it calls this story an “addictive romantic suspense” because right now I’m crying that I don’t have book 2 in hand.

The story, told in alternating POVs, started off in a way that made me gasp, blush, and raise my eyebrows. Oh yes, it started off naughty, very, very naughty…but well, then it went into mysterious overdrive. It was a fantastic combination of seductive and thrilling. While we are in the heads of both Jax and Mia, the reader doesn’t know all the details of what the Vigilante society is like. We learn as Mia learns, and we also learns that there are coverups and facts that need to be cleared up. I loved how things have unfolded so far and I need more more more.

The romance, well if you are like me you want to know about it. It’s there, yet not happening…let’s just say there’s some serious sexual tension and the chemistry is off the charts. There’s so much going on that these two haven’t had have time, but I sure hope it happens soon because it is H-O-T.

There are secondary characters and a world of technology and luxury that I can’t wait to find out more about. The scene setting has been such a treat and I felt like I could envision the penthouse, the silo, all of it.

The ending was a cliffy my friends. A big fat cliff hanger. Huge. ARG! Good news though, book 2 comes out tomorrow and you better believe I pre-ordered it. I’m desperate.

Rec this? If you love romantic suspense with a touch of sci-fi, then YES YES YES.

First off this book started out really amazing as we are thrust into the world of letter writing between criminal Jax De Luca and Mia Morrow. For the past few months , since Mia has been back at her Aunt's house where she has been caring for her Aunt Bea - she has been recieving letters addressed to K aka Klaus. The letters come across as sexy erotica with a touch of BDSM but turns out that they are coded messages. In this book, Jax finally escapes from prison and heads to the house which is in fact a safe house expecting Klaus but instead finds Mia who doesn't know Klaus and her story has been living with her Aunt in the house. Turns out that Jax is part of a secret organisation called Vigilante's and was once the highest ranking member until he was betrayed. Normally , he can get a read on anyone but for some reason there is nothing under the name of Mia Morrow - it's like she doesn't exist. Normally this means she is part of the "specials" but for Mia she doesn't know anything of this world or does she ? Has she been brainwashed to forget ? Can Jax get to the bottom of it and find out what happened to his best friend and partner in crime Klaus ? This book really got me hooked and I was so engrossed only to have it finished on me halfway through the story and it was like - stay tuned for Part #2 . I was like NOOOO as I honestly have a huge thing for endings, I don't mind if the book ends and you expect a sort-of cliffhanger but when it finishes halfway through the book without any indication - that annoys me. Therefore though this book was amazing , it is only going to get Four P's instead of Five , and readers I am now patiently well trying to wait for Volume #2.

I recently watched Jack Ryan Shadow Recruit, and I realized I needed more action in my romance. Normally I don’t prefer first person present tense, and this flip-flops for both characters in every chapter - but I was hooked right away! Maybe because it just accelerates the action.
It starts with a prison break, and reminds me of that show Breakout Kings which I wish they didn’t cancel. Immediately I was thrown into a world of gadgets and mood sensors and all sorts of crazy things. None of them are really explained, but if you watch enough TV like I do they don’t need to be.
Then we get to Mia. Her story starts a little slower, but it’s clear her life is about to change forever & boy does it. They chemistry between the two is incredible. Jax is 100% sure she’s bad news, and she’s freaked out…sort of…and yet strangely turned on and excited at the same time. Her whole character journey is awesome. I love how she looks to her mother for strength.
The whole premise is a little far fetched: bondage love letters = secretly coded messages. But the story is just so good it brings you right in. There aren’t a whole lot of hookup scenes; just teases & building of sexual desire which is hot and well done.
I really enjoyed this first book of the series & plan on reading the rest!

The book gave some serious 007 vibes with the Vigilante organisation and cool gadgets. But Mia, the girl who unknowingly gets roped into this world, is a major disappointment and turns the whole story into a MEH.

First, and foremost, thank you to Annie Winters and Tony West for providing Collector of Book Boyfriends book blog with this arc!!

This is Sci-Fi meets BDSM ;) Adrenaline pumping! The Vigilante’s Lover starts out with a BANG! It jumps right into the plot and doesn’t allow you to put it down!

Mia Morrow is this 20 year old, shy, naïve country girl that has lost everyone she loves. She recently lost her aunt to a stroke and is living in the home that her aunt left to her. “I felt adrift, unmoored, like a boat some sailor accidently freed by tying a shoddy timber hitch.” Mia doesn’t know what direction her life should go in and the only thing that keeps her entertained, as of late, is these mysterious letters she started receiving in the mail from an inmate named Jax De Luca.

For the average onlooker that could read these letters, they would assume they are letters to a lover from a man that is stuck in prison. The letters go into great details of accounts of bondage and sexual innuendos. “Knots are useful. Everything about this language appeals to my sensibilities. Beauty. Power. Bondage. I enjoy all three.” Mia finds herself intoxicated and obsessed with the words in the letters. Her need to respond is too great to resist, so she starts sending letters back. Little to her knowledge, these letters are Jax’s way of communicating with his friend Klaus in the outside world, arranging for his prison break. As Jax starts receiving her letters, he can only assume his friends identity and his escape plan, has been compromised. Mia, in her innocents, never thought responding to these highly titillating letters would bring the man on the other end to her doorstep...well she was VERY WRONG!

Jax is determined to find out what happened to his friend, which whom he was sending the coded letters to and first on his agenda once he gets out of prison, is to give the person whom is sending him letters now, a visit. But finding a beautiful tempting girl like Mia at the safe house where his friend is supposed to be at is very unexpected. He can only assume that she is part of “The Vigilante”, so he takes her hostage in hopes to break her down until she gives up the whereabouts of his friend. “I don’t think I’ve captured a Phase One Trainee quite as beautiful as you before.” Is Mia really this naive country girl that is in the wrong place at the wrong time or is she something “special” that was hidden away in a safe house by “The Vigilante” to protect her? “There is a lot more to this girl than meets the eye. The Vigilante’s are protecting her identity from one of their own.” For some reason, the Identipad indicates that she has no record...this throws up red flags for Jax. Who is Mia?

I was completely absorbed in this book! Like shut out the world, have to get to the bottom of what is going on. The Vigilante’s Lover has everything from suspense to action to that underlying sexual tension that we readers love! Be warned, this volume leaves you on a major CLIFFHANGER! BUT...THANKFULLY volume 2 comes out Jan.27, 2015! So we don’t have to wait forever! I am going to be patiently...not so patiently...waiting for volume 2! lol

5 stars!

**There’s futuristic aspects in this book, such as: mood detector sensors (a computer system that can monitor your mood changes), high-tech gadgets like bracelets and watches that can unlock doors by just swiping your finger over it, and there’s also use of holograms in vehicles (kind of like in the movie, Ironman) and vehicles can drive by themselves (kind of like in the movie i, robot). There’s also phrases thrown around like: off the grid, the syndicate, “Identipad” (a system that identifies any and all persons and shows their history from conception to death). There is no specific date or year noted in The Vigilante’s Lover, so I don’t know exactly when this takes place.**

Vigilante
The definition of this word, according to Webster’s Dictionary is: one that inflicts punishment in return for an injury or offense. Synonyms: avenger, castigator, chastisers, punisher, scourge, nemesis. Related Words: revenger, redresser, righter, requiter. Near Antonyms: ransomer, redeemer, vindicator.

Thirty-seven-year-old Jax De Luca has served one year of a ten-year sentence at Ridley Prison. He is a member of the Mason – Dixon syndicate and a senior vigilante (a sort of knighthood and badge of influence). He had been betrayed by someone in his organization and escapes the prison to right this wrong perpetrated against him.
Jax travels to a syndicate safe house only to discover a strange and beautiful woman asleep in one of the bedrooms. As an expert in knots, he never goes anywhere without a rope. Even before the woman is fully awake, she is bound and hog-tied with a myriad of knots.
Twenty-year-old Mia Morrow returned to Pennsylvania when her Aunt Beatrice’s health started to fail. As the only other member of her family, this decision was logical. Aunt Beatrice died a few weeks earlier and she had no other place to go so decides to stay at her aunt’s (now her) house. These two people are suddenly and violently thrown together; steam and sparks of need, want, and passion soon fills the air around them.

For those readers that have raved about Fifty Shades of Grey by E. L. James, you will think that you’ve died and gone to erotic heaven. For those of you that liked the series but were critical about Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele, you will be pleased with Jax and Mia. No rooms of fetish paraphernalia and no inner-selfs to contend with, The Vigilante’s Lover has an actual storyline to support the erotic gymnastics and a Nineteen-Eighty-Four world (complete with Big Brother) as background.
With such a resounding review you probably wonder why I have only awarded it three stars. The reason is simple. This book is only the first episode of a serial-like series. I view this style as a cheap and unsophisticated way to make money on an unproven story. Instead of offering the reader a complete story, only tidbits are offered in the hope of snaring the reader into buying more; much like a drug dealer, I suppose.

What a great start to this series! If you've read Fight for Her, Volume 4 then you know Jax, he's like a hotter version of 007. Jax is in prison and he's writing all of these hot letters about bondage to his comrade Klaus but what he didn't know is that Mia is the one that has been responding to his letters, it turns out that all of the bondage talk was secret codes...CRAZY! Anyway, Mia is oblivious to all of this, she is just a 20 year old virgin from a small town in Tennessee that lives alone after her aunt died. The sparks fly between Jax and Mia but he doesn't believe she is who she says she is...typical, the vigilante didn't believe anything he just believes everyone is out to get him. I wanted more!!! I cannot wait to read The Vigilante's Lover #2 I need to know what happens next, especially since we are left with one heck of a cliff hanger.

I knew I'd love Jax when he first came to my attention in Annie Winter's/J.J. Knight's last book, Fight For Him. I asked for more Jax in a review of that book and boy did she deliver with The Vigilante's Lover!

Jax, a high level Vigilante, has been imprisoned after having apparently been set up by his former lover and possible double agent, Jovana. With a little help from a few still-loyal confederates, he is able to break free and begins to try to determine exactly how and why he was framed, clear his name and exact his revenge. Jax goes to the safe house where he believes his friend Klaus is staying only to find Mia there as its sole occupant. Mia had been raised in this house by her now-deceased aunt after her parents died in a boating accident. She had only returned to the house 6 months prior, having left college to care for her ailing aunt. Mia knows nothing of a safe house or of anyone other than her aunt and she ever living there. Her only knowledge of Klaus is as the addressee of several seemingly sexually explicit letters incorrectly addressed there by Jax, while he was imprisoned. She was intrigued by and replied to those letters, pretending to be the unknown Klaus. Jax doesn't believe Mia to be the innocent she claims to be and takes her with him on his journey, hoping to extract information from her about both Jovana and Klaus.

And what a journey it appears this will be! Jax and Mia's first stop at a Vigilante headquarters doesn't go as Jax hoped. Mia, who is somehow "special" remains a blank slate, to the otherwise fully informed Vigilante network. And it seems that the Vigilante's aren't willing to give Jax an opportunity to clear himself and plan to return him to a worse prison than the one from which he just escaped. And, oh, the cliffhanger ending! Much as I hate them, Annie, yet again, has got me hooked and I'm coming back for more.

Annie Winters hits the ball out of the field with this first installment of The Vigilante's Lover.

OMFG!!! I need more. So much more. I loved the story and the characters. Everything was fast paced and so interesting and intriguing. I am still spinning from everything that happened. I read the book in one going and I just wish that I had more to read. The suspense, the danger, and the high speed of the scenes are so captivating that I can guarantee that you will simply love it. The characters are so fascinating that I simply couldn't stop myself from loving them.

Jax De Lica is dangerous, dark and sexy with captivating grey-blue eyes. He is also a convicted criminal who manages to escape prison with the help of friends. He impersonates every bad boy your mother warned you to stay away from. And still, I can guarantee that the moment you get your hands on him you won't be able to resist :D But be ready and warned because his life moves on high speed and you have to be always prepared for the unexpected.

Mia, on the other hand is innocent and shy. Her life is somewhat dull and she is all alone in the world. She has no idea about secret agents, safe houses and she's never experienced any excitement. At least until she wakes up erotically tied up to her bad and gazes in Jax's eyes :)

Jax and Mia are like made for each other. They fit perfectly together and the chemistry between them is simply off the charts. I am definitely anxious to see how things will play out in the next book. And I am so happy that I won't have to wait for long :)

In a few words, the story is addicting. The moment you start reading you will just want more, and more, and more. I definitely recommend it but be warned, there is a major cliffhanger. So if you are not a huge fan of that just wait until next week when the second part of the series comes out :)
